Abstract

High-energy neutrinos could be produced in the interaction of charged cosmic rays with matter or radiation surrounding astrophysical sources. To look for transient sources associated with neutrino emission, a follow-up program of neutrino alerts has been operating within the ANTARES Collaboration since 2009. This program, named TAToO, has triggered robotic optical telescopes (MASTER, TAROT, ROTSE and the SVOM ground based telescopes) immediately after the detection of any relevant neutrino candidate and scheduled several observations in the weeks following the detection. A subset of ANTARES events with highest probabilities of being of cosmic origin has also been followed by the Swift and the INTEGRAL satellites, the Murchison Widefield Array radio telescope and the H.E.S.S. high-energy gamma-ray telescope. The results of twelve years of observations are reported. No optical counterpart has been significantly associated with an ANTARES candidate neutrino signal during image analysis. Constraints on transient neutrino emission have been set. In September 2015, ANTARES issued a neutrino alert and during the follow-up, a potential transient counterpart was identified by Swift and MASTER. A multi-wavelength follow-up campaign has allowed to identify the nature of this source and has proven its fortuitous association with the neutrino. Abstract

This article presents the early results of synchronous multiwavelength observations of one of the brightest gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) GRB 160625B with the detailed continuous fast optical photometry of its optical counterpart obtained by MASTER and with hard X-ray and gamma-ray emission, obtained by the Lomonosov and Konus-Wind spacecraft. The detailed photometry led us to detect the quasi-periodical emission components in the intrinsic optical emission. As a result of our analysis of synchronous multiwavelength observations, we propose a three-stage collapse scenario for this long and bright GRB. We suggest that quasiperiodic fluctuations may be associated with forced precession of a self-gravitating rapidly rotating superdense body (spinar), whose evolution is determined by a powerful magnetic field. Abstract

We present multiwavelength observations and a model for flat spectrum radio quasar NVSS J141922-083830, originally classified as a blazar candidate of unknown type (BCU II object) in the Third Fermi-LAT AGN Catalog (3LAC). Relatively bright flares (>3 magnitudes) were observed on 21 February 2015 (MJD 57074) and 8 September 2018 (MJD 58369) in the optical band with the MASTER Global Robotic Net (MASTER-Net) telescopes. Optical spectra obtained with the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) on 1 March 2015 (MJD 57082), during outburst, and on 30 May 2017 (MJD 57903), during quiescence, showed emission lines at 5325\r{A} and at $\approx$3630\r{A} that we identified as the Mg II 2798\r{A} and C III] 1909\r{A} lines, respectively, and hence derived a redshift z = 0.903. Analysis of Fermi-LAT data was performed in the quiescent regime (5 years of data) and during four prominent flaring states in February-April 2014, October-November 2014, February-March 2015 and September 2018. We present spectral and timing analysis with Fermi-LAT. We report a hardening of the gamma-ray spectrum during the last three flaring periods, with a power-law spectral index $\Gamma = 2.0$-$2.1$. The maximum gamma-ray flux level was observed on 24 October 2014 (MJD 56954) at $(7.57 \pm 1.83) \times 10^{-7}$ ph~cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$. The multi-wavelength spectral energy distribution during the February-March 2015 flare supports the earlier evidence of this blazar to belong to the FSRQ class. The SED can be well represented with a single-zone leptonic model with parameters typical of FSRQs, but also a hadronic origin of the high-energy emission can not be ruled out., Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures, 8 tables, accepted for publication in MNRAS (29 July 2022)

Abstract

Multi-pulsed GRB 190530A, detected by the GBM and LAT onboard \fermi, is the sixth most fluent GBM burst detected so far. This paper presents the timing, spectral, and polarimetric analysis of the prompt emission observed using \AstroSat and \fermi to provide insight into the prompt emission radiation mechanisms. The time-integrated spectrum shows conclusive proof of two breaks due to peak energy and a second lower energy break. Time-integrated (55.43 $\pm$ 21.30 \%) as well as time-resolved polarization measurements, made by the Cadmium Zinc Telluride Imager (CZTI) onboard \AstroSat, show a hint of high degree of polarization. The presence of a hint of high degree of polarization and the values of low energy spectral index ($\alpha_{\rm pt}$) do not run over the synchrotron limit for the first two pulses, supporting the synchrotron origin in an ordered magnetic field. However, during the third pulse, $\alpha_{\rm pt}$ exceeds the synchrotron line of death in few bins, and a thermal signature along with the synchrotron component in the time-resolved spectra is observed. Furthermore, we also report the earliest optical observations constraining afterglow polarization using the MASTER (P $<$ 1.3 \%) and the redshift measurement ($z$= 0.9386) obtained with the 10.4m GTC telescopes. The broadband afterglow can be described with a forward shock model for an ISM-like medium with a wide jet opening angle. We determine a circumburst density of $n_{0} \sim$ 7.41, kinetic energy $E_{\rm K} \sim$ 7.24 $\times 10^{54}$ erg, and radiated $\gamma$-ray energy $E_{\rm \gamma, iso} \sim$ 6.05 $\times 10^{54}$ erg, respectively., Comment: 28 pages, 17 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

Abstract

We report the discovery and multicolor (VRIW) photometry of a rare explosive star MASTER OT J004207.99+405501.1 - a luminous red nova - in the Andromeda galaxy M31N2015-01a. We use our original light curve acquired with identical MASTER Global Robotic Net telescopes in one photometric system: VRI during first 30 days and W (unfiltered) during 70 days. Also we added publishied multicolor photometry data to estimate the mass and energy of the ejected shell, and discuss the likely formation scenarios of outbursts of this type. We propose the interpretation of the explosion, that is consistent with the evolutionary scenario where star merger is a natural stage of the evolution of close-mass stars and may serve as an extra channel for the formation of nova outbursts., Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables, accepted to MNRAS

Abstract

On February 17 2016, the IceCube real-time neutrino search identified, for the first time, three muon neutrino candidates arriving within 100 s of one another, consistent with coming from the same point in the sky. Such a triplet is expected once every 13.7 years as a random coincidence of background events. However, considering the lifetime of the follow-up program the probability of detecting at least one triplet from atmospheric background is 32%. Follow-up observatories were notified in order to search for an electromagnetic counterpart. Observations were obtained by Swift's X-ray telescope, by ASAS-SN, LCO and MASTER at optical wavelengths, and by VERITAS in the very-high-energy gamma-ray regime. Moreover, the Swift BAT serendipitously observed the location 100 s after the first neutrino was detected, and data from the Fermi LAT and HAWC observatory were analyzed. We present details of the neutrino triplet and the follow-up observations. No likely electromagnetic counterpart was detected, and we discuss the implications of these constraints on candidate neutrino sources such as gamma-ray bursts, core-collapse supernovae and active galactic nucleus flares. Abstract

On 2015 June 15 the Swift space observatory discovered that the Galactic black hole candidate V404 Cyg was undergoing another active X-ray phase, after 25 years of inactivity (Barthelmy et al. 2015). Twelve telescopes of the MASTER Global Robotic Net located at six sites across four continents were the first ground based observatories to start optical monitoring of the microquasar after its gamma-ray wakeup at 18h 34m 09s U.T. on 2015 June 15 (Lipunov et al. 2015). In this paper we report, for the first time, the discovery of variable optical linear polarization, changing by 4-6% over a timescale of approximately 1 h, on two different epochs. We can conclude that the additional variable polarization arisies from the relativistic jet generated by the black hole in V404Cyg. Abstract

The Advanced LIGO observatory recently reported (Abbott et al., 2016a) the first direct detection of gravitational waves predicted by Einstein (1916). The detection of this event was predicted in 1997 on the basis of the Scenario Machine population synthesis calculations (Lipunov et al., NewA, 2, 43). Now we discuss the parameters of binary black holes and event rates predicted by different scenarios of binary evolution. We give a simple explanation of the big difference between detected black hole masses and the mean black hole masses observed in of X-ray Nova systems. The proximity of the masses of the components of GW150914 is in good agreement with the observed initial mass ratio distribution in massive binary systems, as is used in Scenario Machine calculations for massive binaries., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

We detected several optical transients, which proved to be unconnected with the GW event. Abstract

We report on the MASTER Global Robotic Net discovery of an eclipsing binary, MASTER OT J095310.04+335352.8, previously known as unremarkable star TYC 2505-672-1, which displays extreme orbital parameters. The orbital period P=69.1 yr is more than 2.5 times longer than that of epsilon-Aurigae, which is the previous record holder. The light curve is characterized by an extremely deep total eclipse with a depth of more than 4.5 mag, which is symmetrically shaped and has a total duration of 3.5 yrs. The eclipse is essentially gray. The spectra acquired with the Russian 6 m BTA telescope both at minimum and maximum light mainly correspond to an M0-1III--type red giant, but the spectra taken at the bottom of eclipse show small traces of a sufficiently hot source. Abstract

The non-linear dynamics of bending instability and vertical structure of a galactic stellar disc embedded into a spherical halo are studied with N-body numerical modelling. Development of the bending instability in stellar galactic disc is considered as the main factor that increases the disc thickness. Correlation between the disc vertical scale height and the halo-to-disc mass ratio is predicted from the simulations. The method of assessment of the spherical-to-disc mass ratio for edge-on spiral galaxies with small bulges is considered. Modelling of eight edge-on galaxies: NGC 891, NGC 4738, NGC 5170, UGC 6080, UGC 7321, UGC 8286, UGC 9422 and UGC 9556 is performed. Parameters of stellar discs, dark haloes and bulges are estimated. The lower limit of the dark-to-luminous mass ratio in our galaxies is of the order of 1 within the limits of their stellar discs. Abstract

We present results of numerical modeling made for the galactic stellar disk embedded in the spherical halo. The non-linear dynamics of bending instabilities developed in the disk is studied. The axisymmetrical bending mode is considered as a main factor increasing the disk thickness. The model dependence between the disk thickness and the halo to disk mass ratio $M_h/M_d$ is inferred. The modeling results enable us to estimate the dark halo mass for several edge-on galaxies. Abstract

We present multiwavelength observations and a model for flat-spectrum radio quasar (FSRQ) NVSS J141922−083830, originally classified as a blazar candidate of unknown type (BCU II object) in the Third Fermi - LAT AGN Catalog. Relatively bright flares (>3 magnitudes) were observed on 2015 February 21 (MJD 57074) and 2018 September 8 (MJD 58369) in the optical band with the MASTER Global Robotic Net telescopes. Optical spectra obtained with the Southern African Large Telescope on 2015 March 1 (MJD 57082), during outburst, and on 2017 May 30 (MJD 57903), during quiescence, showed emission lines at 5325 Å and at ≈3630 Å that we identified as the Mg  ii 2798 Å and C  iii ] 1909 Å lines, respectively, and hence derived a redshift |$z$| = 0.903. Analysis of Fermi - Large Area Telescope (LAT) data was performed in the quiescent regime (5 yr of data) and during four prominent flaring states in 2014 February–April, 2014 October–November, 2015 February–March, and 2018 September. We present spectral and timing analysis with Fermi - LAT. We report a hardening of the gamma-ray spectrum during the last three flaring periods, with a power-law spectral index Γ = 2.0–2.1. The maximum gamma-ray flux level was observed on 2014 October 24 (MJD 56954) at (7.57 ± 1.83) × 10−7 ph cm−2 s−1. The multiwavelength spectral energy distribution (SED) during the 2015 February–March flare supports the earlier evidence of this blazar to belong to the FSRQ class. The SED can be well represented with a single-zone leptonic model with parameters typical of FSRQs, but also a hadronic origin of the high-energy emission cannot be ruled out. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The Advanced LIGO observatory recently reported the first direct detection of the gravitational waves (GWs) predicted by Einstein & Sitzungsber. We report on the first optical observations of the GW source GW150914 error region with the Global MASTER Robotic Net. Between the optical telescopes of electromagnetic support, the covered area is dominated by MASTER with an unfiltered magnitude up to 19.9 mag (5σ). We detected several optical transients, which proved to be unconnected with the GW event. The main input to investigate the final error box of GW150914 was made by the MASTER-SAAO robotic telescope, which covered 70 per cent of the final GW error box and 90 per cent of the common localization area of the LIGO and Fermi events. Our result is consistent with the conclusion (Abbott et al. 2016a) that GWs from GW150914 were produced in a binary black hole merger. At the same time, we cannot exclude that MASTER OT J040938.68-541316.9 exploded on 2015 September 14. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fragmentation of international law is analyzed with a view to intersectoral cooperation in international law. The author interprets «WTO law» in the context of international environmental law and human rights protection, and makes the conclusion that nothing deters the application of established in the Vienna Convention of 1969 systematic interpretation to «covered agreements». Abstract

Astronomy and astrophysics 607, A115 (2017). doi:10.1051/0004-6361/201730620, On February 17, 2016, the IceCube real-time neutrino search identified, for the first time, three muon neutrino candidates arriving within 100 s of one another, consistent with coming from the same point in the sky. Such a triplet is expected once every 13.7 years as a random coincidence of background events. However, considering the lifetime of the follow-up program the probability of detecting at least one triplet from atmospheric background is 32%. Follow-up observatories were notified in order to search for an electromagnetic counterpart. Observations were obtained by Swift’s X-ray telescope, by ASAS-SN, LCO and MASTER at optical wavelengths, and by VERITAS in the very-high-energy gamma-ray regime. Moreover, the Swift BAT serendipitously observed the location 100 s after the first neutrino was detected, and data from the Fermi LAT and HAWC observatory were analyzed. We present details of the neutrino triplet and the follow-up observations. No likely electromagnetic counterpart was detected, and we discuss the implications of these constraints on candidate neutrino sources such as gamma-ray bursts, core-collapse supernovae and active galactic nucleus flares. Abstract

Two hundred patients with sarcoidosis were interviewed by a questionnaire in the global Internet. For comparison, the same questionnaire was used in the interviews of 60 patients in Kazan. Among international responders, patients from the USA were prevalent. The age of 30-39 years was predominant in both groups, females were three fourths. In global practice the diagnosis of sarcoidosis is much more frequently histologically verified though in Russia the likely diagnosis of sarcoidosis is much earlier established during the patient's visit to a doctor. The basic drugs for its therapy are glucocorticoids. Inhaled steroids are used relatively rarely. Only Russia is marked by the use of antituberculous agents. The authors note that the Internet may be a field for research activities in medical science.

Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of cyclosporin A (CyA) at different stages of immunosuppressive therapy (IST) in patients with aplastic anemia (AA)., Materials and Methods: The efficacy of CyA was studied in 56 patients with AA. The agent was orally given in an initial dose of 10 mg/kg as solution or capsules. Its daily dose during a treatment course varies with the serum CyA levels and clinical tolerance. CyA was used in 17 patients at the first stage of treatment, in 8 with recurrent AA, and in 31 after ineffective previous therapy (antilymphocytic globulin therapy--ALGT, splenectomy). Erythropoiesis was evaluated by the count of erythrokaryocytes and by relative erythroid hyperplasia of the bone marrow and by using erythrokaryocytic PAS reaction, by calculating the total count of sideroblasts and ringed sideroblasts., Results: A positive response was obtained in 41% of the patients with AA. Its pattern depended on the severity of AA, on CyA use regimens, and treatment duration: when treatment with CyA lasted 6-12 months, its efficacy considerably increased (positive responses in severe AA and mild AA being in 64 and 94%, respectively). It has been found that high (over 6%) baseline bone marrow ringed sideroblasts in patients with AA may be regarded as a poor predictor in the context of the efficacy of this agent., Conclusion: CyA is recommended for combined IST in patients with AA at the second stage of treatment (after antilymphocytic globulin administration) in order to perform long-term (12-month) immunosuppression by choosing the optimum dose on an individual basis and by continuously monitoring the quality of a response.

Abstract

The rate of Escherichia coli mutation with N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine was found to depend on the age of the culture and the pH value of the incubation medium. The mutability of late-logarithmic cells was higher than that of mid-logarithmic cells. Rifampicin, a transcription inhibitor, enhanced the mutagenic action of MNNG on cells from the late logarithmic and early stationary phases suspended in a medium with a pH of 7.4, and on cells from the mid-logarithmic phase suspended in a medium with a pH of 6.5. Conversely, streptomycin decreased the frequency of induced mutations in cells from the late logarithmic and early stationary phases suspended in the medium with a pH of 7.4, and in cells from the mid-logarithmic and early stationary phases suspended in the medium with a pH of 6.5. These data were interpreted as showing that the repair of premutational DNA lesions induced by MNNG depends on the level of DNA transcription and translation.

Abstract

Aim: To describe and analyze rare iatrogenic disturbances of water-electrolyte and acid-base balances in systemic blood diseases., Material and Methods: Five cases of life-threatening electrolytic imbalance resultant from therapy in patients with hemoblastoses and a patient with acute intermittent porphyria (AIP)., Results: Hyperkalemia arose in 2 patients treated with cyclosporin A and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxasole. One patient developed severe arrhythmia because of hypomagnesemia following long-term therapy with aminoglycosides and amphotericin B. In one AIP patient hyponatremia ending in coma was attributed to the disease activity and infusion therapy. This was the cause of coma. In a patient with acute leukemia and pneumonia amphotericin B therapy entailed distal renal tubular acidosis and marked dyspnea which was primarily mistaken for acute respiratory failure. Pathogenetic, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of the above water-electrolyte defects are provided., Conclusion: The appearance of water-electrolyte imbalance in hemoblastosis patients calls up a detailed analysis of the going-on therapy whether the imbalance is iatrogenic.

Abstract

Aim: To study pharmacokinetics of liposomal daunorubicine DaunoXome and daunorubicine (rubomycin) associated with red cells: to assess their effectiveness and toxicity in patients with acute leukemia., Materials and Methods: 7 patients with resistant or recurrent acute leukemia entered the trial. Of them 2 patients had acute myeloid leukemia. They received DaunoXome in dose 100 mg in days 1, 2 and 3 of 7 + 3 program. 1 patient had pretreated acute promyelocytic leukemia. This patient received 5-day course of DaunoXome in a dose 100 mg in the presence of ATRA therapy. 4 patients were given single dose daunorubicin associated with autoerythrocytes in the courses RACOP and 7 + 3 in a dose 45 mg/m2. Concentrations of free, bound and liposomal daunorubicin were determined spectrofluorimetrically in chlorophorm extracts of plasm, blood, liquor and bone marrow specimens., Results: Immobilization of daunorubicin on the red cells and liposomes changes pharmacokinetics of the drug: peak concentrations change and the area under the concentration curve increases. Tolerance of DaunoXome and daunorubicine associated with red cells was satisfactory in all the cases: clinical and echo-CG signs of cordiotoxicity were absent, myelotoxicity was similar to that of free daunorubicine. DaunoXome was effective in 2 of 3 patients with acute myeloblastic leukemia., Conclusion: The findings are of practical interest for physicians designing new programs of therapy of acute leukemia.

Abstract

Aim: Evaluation of trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) in combination with cytostatic drugs in treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL)., Materials and Methods: In a multicenter study APL was treated according to protocols APL 01.97 and APL 06.87 in 28 patients (14 males and 14 females, median age 36 years)., Results: Administration of ATRA in combination with standard program 7 + 3 (cytosine-arabinoside 100 mg/m2 twice a day v.v. day 1-7, daunorubicin 60 mg/m2 v.v. day 1-3) induced a complete remission in 25 patients (90%). Early lethality was 10% (3 patients died). Resistant APL was not registered. Retinoid syndrome was diagnosed in 15 patients, one patient died. 2-year overall and recurrence-free survival made up 72 and 82%, respectively., Conclusion: ATRA combination with cytosine-arabinoside and daunorubicin is a novel treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia providing a high rate of complete remission and long-term survival.
