Abstract Background The Synotis (C. B. Clarke) C. Jeffrey & Y. L. Chen is an ecologically important genus of the tribe Senecioneae, family Asteraceae. Because most species of the genus bear similar morphology, traditional morphological identification methods are very difficult to discriminate them. Therefore, it is essential to develop a reliable and effective identification method for Synotis species. In this study, the complete chloroplast (cp.) genomes of four Synotis species, S. cavaleriei (H.Lév.) C. Jeffrey & Y.L. Chen, S. duclouxii (Dunn) C. Jeffrey & Y.L. Chen, S. nagensium (C.B. Clarke) C. Jeffrey & Y.L. Chen and S. erythropappa (Bureau & Franch.) C. Jeffrey & Y. L. Chen had been sequenced using next-generation sequencing technology and reported here. Results These four cp. genomes exhibited a typical quadripartite structure and contained the large single-copy regions (LSC, 83,288 to 83,399 bp), the small single-copy regions (SSC, 18,262 to 18,287 bp), and the inverted repeat regions (IR, 24,837 to 24,842 bp). Each of the four cp. genomes encoded 134 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, 8 rRNA genes, and 2 pseudogenes (ycf1 and rps19). The highly variable regions (trnC-GCA-petN, ccsA-psaC, trnE-UUC-rpoB, ycf1, ccsA and petN) may be used as potential molecular barcodes. The complete cp. genomes sequence of Synotis could be used as the potentially effective super-barcode to accurately identify Synotis species. Phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that the four Synotis species were clustered into a monophyletic group, and they were closed to the Senecio, Crassocephalum and Dendrosenecio in tribe Senecioneae. Conclusions This study will be useful for further species identification, evolution, genetic diversity and phylogenetic studies within this genus Synotis and the tribe Senecioneae.

The species of Carpesium lipskyi C.Winkl. 1998 is an important traditional Chinese medicine in China. In this study, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of C. lipskyi was determined and analyzed. The result showed that the complete cp genome of C. lipskyi was 151,244 bp in length, consisting of a large single-copy (LSC) region of 82,908 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,430 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) of 24,953 bp. The overall GC content of the C. lipskyi is 37.68%. The species of C. lipskyi possessed 127 genes, including 83 protein-coding genes, 36 transfer RNA genes, and eight ribosomal RNA genes. The present study found that Inula is sister groups with the closest genetic relationship. The obtained knowledge could provide useful information for future phylogenetic, taxonomic, and evolutionary studies on Inuleae.

Abstract Background In this prospective cohort study, we determined the phenotypic characteristics of children with regressive autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and explored the effects of rehabilitation. Methods We recruited 370 children with ASD aged 1.5–7 years. Based on the Regression Supplement Form, the children were assigned to two groups: regressive and non-regressive. The core symptoms and neurodevelopmental levels of ASD were assessed before and after 1 year of behavioral intervention using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), Social Response Scale (SRS), Children Autism Rating Scale (CARS), and Gesell Developmental Scale (GDS). Results Among the 370 children with ASD, 28.38% (105/370) experienced regression. Regression was primarily observed in social communication and language skills. Children with regressive ASD exhibited higher SRS and CARS scores and lower GDS scores than those with non-regressive ASD. After 1 year of behavioral intervention, the symptom scale scores significantly decreased for all children with ASD; however, a lesser degree of improvement was observed in children with regressive ASD than in those with non-regressive ASD. In addition, the symptom scores of children with regressive ASD below 4 years old significantly decreased, whereas the scores of those over 4 years old did not significantly improve. Children with regressive ASD showed higher core symptom scores and lower neurodevelopmental levels. Nevertheless, after behavioral intervention, some symptoms exhibited significant improvements in children with regressive ASD under 4 years of age. Conclusion Early intervention should be considered for children with ASD, particularly for those with regressive ASD.

Abstract Solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation is susceptible to environmental factors, and redundant features can disrupt prediction accuracy. To achieve rapid and accurate online prediction, we propose a method that combines Principal Component Analysis (PCA) with a multi-strategy improved Squirrel Search Algorithm (SSA) to optimize Support Vector Machine (MISSA-SVM) for prediction. Initially, to mitigate the impact of redundant features on prediction accuracy, KPCA is employed for feature dimensionality reduction. Subsequently, SVM is suggested as the foundational algorithm for constructing the prediction model. Furthermore, to address the influence of hyperparameter selection on model performance, SSA is introduced for optimizing SVM hyperparameters, with the aim of establishing the optimal prediction model. Moreover, to enhance solution efficiency and accuracy, a multi-strategy approach termed MISSA is proposed, which integrates Population Initialization based on the Tent map, Nonlinear Predator Presence Probability, Chaotic-based Dynamic Opposition-based Learning, and Selection Strategy, to refine SSA. Finally, through case studies, the performance of MISSA optimization is assessed using challenging CEC2021 test functions, demonstrating its high optimization performance, stability, and significance. Subsequently, the performance of the prediction model is validated using two datasets, showcasing that the proposed prediction method achieves high accuracy and robust prediction stability.

Abstract Dichrocephala benthamii C. B. Clarke has long been used as traditional Chinese medicine. However, the chloroplast (cp) genome of D. benthamii is poorly understood so far. In this study, we sequenced and analyzed the cp genome of D. benthamii. The results showed that the cp genome is 152,350 bp in length, with a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRa and IRb, each 24,982 bp), a large single-copy (LSC) region comprising 84,136 bp, and a small single-copy (SSC) region comprising 18,250 bp. The GC content of the cp genome was 37.3%. A total of 134 genes were identified, including 87 protein-coding genes (CDS), 38 tRNA genes, 8 rRNA genes, and 1 pseudogene (ycf1). Expansion or contraction of IR regions were detected in D. benthamii and other species of the tribe Astereae. Additionally, our analyses showed the types of sequence repeats and the highly variable regions discovered by analyzing the border regions, sequence divergence, and hot spots. The phylogenetic analysis revealed D. benthamii is the basal group of Astereae. The results of this study will be a significant contribution to the genetics and species identification related to D. benthamii.

This study aimed to assess the impact of a 16-week combined training program on the physical performance of 20 male Air Force pilots, with an average age of 31.87 ± 2.75 years, body mass of 76.33 ± 0.79 kg, and height of 175.55 ± 3.65 cm. This intervention encompassed both aerobic and strength training, involving six weekly training sessions. The participants were categorized into two groups based on their initial physical performance levels to explore potential baseline influences on post-intervention adaptations. The study measured changes in estimated maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max), maximal strength, muscular endurance, and long jump performance before and after the training program. ObjectiveThe margin status of oral squamous cell carcinoma patients is considered to be predictive of recurrence and long-term survival. Therefore, precise intraoperative margin assessment is crucial. This study investigated the feasibility of using near-infrared fluorescence imaging technology to guide margin design in oral squamous cell carcinoma patients.MethodsIn this retrospective study, indocyanine green solution was intravenously injected preoperatively into patients. Intraoperatively, the surgical area was illuminated using a near-infrared fluorescence imaging system, which caused the lesion to fluoresce in the surgical area. Surgery was performed with the assistance of fluorescence imaging. The fluorescence intensity of the lesion area and surrounding normal tissue was recorded during surgery. Intraoperative margins were sent for rapid pathology, and postoperative margin pathology results were documented.ResultsSixteen patients were included in this study (7 males, 9 females), with an average age of 65.65 ± 12.37 years. Preoperative biopsy and postoperative pathology confirmed oral squamous cell carcinoma in all patients. No cancer cells were found in the margin pathology results. The average fluorescence intensity of the lesion area was 214 ± 4.70, and that of the surrounding normal tissue was 104.63 ± 3.14. There was no significant difference in the fluorescence intensity values of the lesion areas among all patients (F=0.38, P>0.05). In this study, we investigated the volatile flavor compounds and sensory perceptions of Yanbian-style sauced beef prepared from raw meats subjected to different treatments (hot fresh, chilled, and frozen beef). The results indicated that the treatment of raw beef significantly impacted the quality and flavor of sauced beef. Sauced chilled beef (CRSB) exhibited the highest content of fatty acids and total amino acids. A total of 48 volatile compounds were identified. Moreover, a relative odor activity value analysis identified hexanal, nonanal, heptanal, 1-octen-3-ol, and 2,3-octanedione as the characteristic flavor compounds in Yanbian-style sauced beef. The sensory evaluation demonstrated that CRSB was the most palatable and flavorful. Additionally, correlation loading plot analysis indicated strong correlations between sensory evaluation, fatty acids, amino acids, and volatile flavor compounds. These results suggest that chilled beef meat is the best raw material for the production of Yanbian-style sauced beef.

AbstractDuhaldea cappa, a valuable medicinal plant of genus Duhaldea in the tribe Inuleae, is predominantly found in China, Bhutan, India, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, and Vietnam. However, the genomic studies of Duhaldea cappa are limited. In this study, we successfully sequenced and assembled the complete chloroplast genome of Duhaldea cappa. The chloroplast genome is 150,819 bp in length with a 37.73% GC content. The chloroplast genome has a quadripartite structure, consisting of a large single-copy region of 82,731 bp, a small single-copy region of 18,168 bp, and a pair of inverted repeat sequences of 24,960 bp. The genome contains 133 genes. Among these genes, there are 88 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The phylogeny reconstructed from data of the complete chloroplast genome indicated that Duhaldea cappa is closely related to Pluchea indica in the tribe Inuleae. Analyzing and reporting the chloroplast genome of Duhaldea cappa will establish a solid theoretical and data foundation for the efficient development, conservation, and utilization of this plant species.

Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by deficits in social interaction, communication, repetitive behaviors, and narrow interests. This study aimed to investigate the impact of the Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α) inhibitor (PX-478) on ASD-like behaviors in rat offspring exposed to prenatal hypoxia (PH). Methods: Pregnant rats were randomly assigned to control or PH groups, with the latter experiencing six hours of hypoxia on the 17th day of gestation. Offspring were further treated with PX-478 treatment initiated at one week (+1 w) or three weeks (+3 w) after birth. Hippocampal histology was assessed using hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, while protein levels of HIF-1α and phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) were analyzed via western blotting. The concentration of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was measured using an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) kit. Results: PX-478 treatment significantly improved spatial memory, learning, and social ability, while reducing anxiety-like behavior in PH-exposed offspring rats. HE staining revealed that PX-478 treatment decreased the number of hippocampal neurons necrosis in offspring. However, PX-478 treatment at one week post-birth led to decreased body weight and elevated levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in offspring rats, whereas no significant effect was observed after three weeks of treatment. Additionally, PX-478 treatment resulted in reduced HIF-1α protein levels in the hippocampus and VEGF concentration in the serum of PH-exposed offspring rats, along with elevated PTEN protein levels. Conclusions: The findings suggest that PX-478 treatment attenuated autism-like behavior in offspring. HIF-1α might play an important role in autism-like behavior induced by prenatal hypoxia, which may be realized by inhibiting PTEN activity.

Dry-aging is a postmortem process that can substantially enhance the texture and flavour of beef. This study entailed suspending Yanbian cattle M. gluteus medius in the aging cabinet, maintained at a temperature of 2–4 °C and a relative humidity of 85 ± 5% for 35 days. Throughout this period, samples were systematically collected every 7 days. The widely targeted metabolomic analysis has been used in this investigation to analyse the dynamic changes in Yanbian cattle metabolites during dry-aging. A total of 883 metabolites were identified, with amino acids and their metabolites representing the largest proportion. Multivariate statistical analysis showed that 373 metabolites were identified as differential metabolites that changed significantly during the dry-aging process, including metabolites of amino acids, glycerophospholipids, and nucleotides and their metabolites. Additionally, 308 metabolites exhibited various increasing trends with time in dry-aging. The analysis of KEGG pathway analysis showed that ABC transporters, glycerophospholipid, and arachidonic acid metabolism are the most important metabolic pathways during dry-aging. These findings can guide technological developments in the meat processing sector and provide valuable insights into the metabolic traits and pathways of Yanbian cattle during the dry-aging process.

Aster L. is an economically and phylogenetically important genus in the tribe Astereae. Here, the complete plastomes of the eight Aster species were assembled and characterized using next-generation sequencing datasets. The results indicated the complete plastomes of Aster had a quadripartite structure. These genomes were 152,045–152,729 bp in length and contained 132–133 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes, 37–38 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. Expansion or contraction of inverted repeat regions and forward, palindromic, complement, and reverse repeats were detected in the eight Aster species. Additionally, our analyses showed the richest type of simple sequence repeats was A/T mononucleotides, and 14 highly variable regions were discovered by analyzing the border regions, sequence divergence, and hotspots. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that 27 species in Astereae were clustered into six clades, i.e., A to D, North American, and outgroup clades, and supported that the genera Heteropappus, Kalimeris, and Heteroplexis are nested within Aster. The results indicated the clades B to D might be considered as genera. Divergence time estimate showed the clades A, B, C, and D diverged at 23.15 Mya, 15.13 Mya, 24.29 Mya, and 21.66 Mya, respectively. These results shed light on the phylogenetic relationships of Aster and provided new information on species identification of Aster and its related genera.

Aster yaoshanensis sp. nov., a new species of the family Asteraceae is here described and illustrated. The species is presently known only from rock crevices of mountain valleys in Dayaoshan National Nature Reserve, Guangxi autonomous region, China. Phylogenetic analyses based on ITS sequences and complete plastome data have shown that this new species is a member of genus Aster with high support. Morphologically, it mostly resembles A. jishouensis, but it can be easily distinguished from the latter by bract indumentum (glabrous except margin ciliate vs. villous especially on veins abaxially, glabrous adaxially) and color (green vs. purple), shorter corolla (3.2–3.5 mm vs. 4.5–5.3 mm), bract stalk (obvious, ca.1.2 mm vs. sessile), and different distribution (Guangxi vs. Hunan). The detailed description, distribution map, and photos are provided. This study further elucidates the species identification, phylogeny and characteristic evolution of Aster.

Purpose: This study aimed to: (i) analyze the changes in physical fitness and body composition following a 4-month intervention of small-sided games (SSG) training; and (ii) analyze the association between internal and external training loads and the observed changes in physical fitness and body composition among sedentary young adults. Methods: Sixty sedentary individuals (males: 30; females: 30) participated in this randomized controlled trial study. Physical fitness and body composition parameters were assessed at the 1st, 8th weeks, and 16th weeks after a SSG intervention. Results: Significant main effects of time and gender on overall physical fitness parameters, with a notable time-group interaction were observed. For body composition measures, we found significant main effects of time, group, and gender. Furthermore, we identified significant correlations between shuttle run, handgrip, and vertical jump performance, and the time spent at VO2max (TVO2max) during SSG (r = −0.779, p = 0.001; r = −0.788, p = 0.001; r = 0.692, p = 0.004, respectively). Handgrip strength exhibited significant correlations with heat exhaustion (HE) and total distance (TD) during SSG (r = −0.616, p = 0.014; r = −0.629, p = 0.012). Similarly, we observed significant correlations between hip perimeter (HP), skinfolds (SF), waist-to-hip ratio (W:H), and TVO2max (r = 0.624, p = 0.013; r = 0.663, p = 0.007; r = 0.535, p = 0.040, respectively). Conclusion: This study indicates that the intensity achieved during SSG plays a crucial role in fostering positive adaptations in aerobic capacity, maximal strength, and jumping performance in recreational soccer. Therefore, practitioners should ensure that SSG formats generate the required stimulus to sustain prolonged periods within VO2max zones.

Recreational small-sided games (SSGs) have demonstrated positive effects on body composition and physical fitness, while minimizing adverse outcomes. In this randomized controlled study, we aimed to investigate the impact of incorporating an additional 16-week intervention program involving recreational soccer SSGs on parameters related to body composition and physical fitness in sedentary young adult males and females. Sixty sedentary participants, with a mean age of 20.2 years, were randomly assigned to either the small-sided games group (SSG; n = 30) or the active control group, which participated in regular physical education classes (CG; n = 30). The SSG group engaged in the same activities as the control group but additionally participated in a recreational SSG football program. This program involved continuous and intermittent moderate-to high-intensity exercises conducted on 20 m × 30 m and 30 m × 50 m football fields. In contrast, the CG group received 1 h of physical education once a week. The interventions were administered for a duration of sixteen weeks. Baseline, 8-week, and post-intervention assessments were conducted to measure body mass (BM), body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), skinfold thickness (SFT), standing broad jump (SBJ), vertical jump (VJ), handgrip strength (HG) for both left and right hands, shuttle run distance (SRD), and shuttle run estimated VO2max. Results indicated that both male and female participants in the SSG group exhibited significant improvements in BM, BMI, SFT, WC, HC, and WHR following the intervention (p 0.05). Additionally, SSG participants (regardless of sex) displayed significant enhancements in SBJ, VJ, HG, SRD, and VO2max (p 0.05). The findings from this experimental study suggested that a 16-week recreational soccer SSG intervention effectively enhanced body composition and physical fitness among overweight sedentary young adults, offering a pleasurable alternative to conventional training approaches.

Enhanced geothermal system (EGS) is subject to the comprehensive effects of multiple physical fields during the long-term heat extraction process, including hydraulic (H), thermal (T), mechanical (M) and chemical (C) fields. The embedded discrete fracture model (EDFM) can effectively simulate the variations of flow, temperature, mechanical and concentration fields in fractured reservoirs. At present, however, the thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical (THMC) coupling model based on EDFM is less researched. In this paper, the THMC coupling model of fractured reservoir is established based on EDFM by considering the changes in reservoir heterogeneity and physical properties as well as water–rock reactions. Then, the spatiotemporal evolution of flow, temperature, displacement and concentration fields in the operation process of EGS is simulated and analyzed. And the following research results are obtained. First, when the permeability of the basement rock is low, the production temperature decrease during exploitation is gradual, allowing EGS to maintain a high exploitation temperature for an extended period. However, lower permeability may result in a decrease in the quality flow rate from production wells, thereby affecting net heat extraction power. Second, when fracture permeability or fracture opening changes, EGS can output higher temperature stably for a certain period and then the temperature decreases at different amplitudes. When the fracture permeability increases to a certain value or the fracture opening decreases to a certain value, the influence of the change in fracture parameters on production temperature gets weak. Third, After 40 years of EGS operation, considering variable property fluids results in a 22 °C lower exploitation temperature compared to using constant property fluids, and considering water–rock reactions results in a 15 °C lower exploitation temperature, with a 12.5 % increase in reservoir average porosity. In conclusion, when researching a long-term operating EGS, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the influences of reservoir rock parameters, physical properties of injected fluid, water–rock reaction and other factors. And in the future, attention shall be paid to the two-way coupling of chemical reaction and mechanical deformation of other mineral compositions in the reservoir to the hydro-thermo-chemical field influence, so as to provide more accurate and reliable prediction for the engineering development and utilization of EGS reservoirs.

A new species, Primula xilingensis K.Huang & Z.X.Fu, sp. nov. (Primulaceae), is described and illustrated. In gross morphology, it is clearly allied to section Minutissimae on account of having stolons, being glabrous, leaf rosette less than or equal to corolla, flower solitary and bract not swollen at base. The new species is easily distinguished by the combination of scape densely yellow farinose, leaf apex acute, rarely broadly obtuse, corolla pale purplish blue and style 3.0–6.0 mm above base of corolla tube, stamens reaching the corolla tube mouth in thrum flower. In addition, the distribution map, morphological comparison of related species and conservation status of the new species are also provided.

Abstract Liquid biopsy of cancers, detecting tumor-related information from liquid samples, has attracted wide attentions as an emerging technology. Our previously reported large-area PERFECT (Precise-Efficient-Robust-Flexible-Easy-Controllable-Thin) filter has demonstrated competitive sensitivity in recovering rare tumor cells from clinical samples. However, it is time-consuming and easily biased to manually inspect rare target cells among numerous background cells distributed in a large area (Φ ≥ 13 mm). This puts forward an urgent demand for rapid and bias-free inspection. Hereby, this paper implemented deep learning-based object detection for the inspection of rare tumor cells from large-field images of PERFECT filters with hematoxylin-eosin (HE)-stained cells recovered from bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF). CenterNet, EfficientDet, and YOLOv5 were trained and validated with 240 and 60 image blocks containing tumor and/or background cells, respectively. YOLOv5 was selected as the basic network given the highest mAP@0.5 of 92.1%, compared to those of CenterNet and EfficientDet at 85.2% and 91.6%, respectively. Then, tricks including CIoU loss, image flip, mosaic, HSV augmentation and TTA were applied to enhance the performance of the YOLOv5 network, improving mAP@0.5 to 96.2%. This enhanced YOLOv5 network-based object detection, named as BALFilter Reader, was tested and cross-validated on 24 clinical cases. The overall diagnosis performance (~2 min) with sensitivity@66.7% ± 16.7%, specificity@100.0% ± 0.0% and accuracy@75.0% ± 12.5% was superior to that from two experienced pathologists (10–30 min) with sensitivity@61.1%, specificity@16.7% and accuracy@50.0%, with the histopathological result as the gold standard. The AUC of the BALFilter Reader is 0.84 ± 0.08. Moreover, a customized Web was developed for a user-friendly interface and the promotion of wide applications. The current results revealed that the developed BALFilter Reader is a rapid, bias-free and easily accessible AI-enabled tool to promote the transplantation of the BALFilter technique. This work can easily expand to other cytopathological diagnoses and improve the application value of micro/nanotechnology-based liquid biopsy in the era of intelligent pathology.

The paper addresses the overlooked interaction between power-to-gas (P2G) devices and carbon capture and storage (CCS) equipment, along with the stepwise carbon trading mechanism in the context of current multi-park integrated energy microgrids (IEMGs). Additionally, it covers the economic and coordinated low-carbon operation issues in multi-park IEMGs under the carbon trading system. It proposes a multi-park IEMG low-carbon operation strategy based on the synchronous Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) algorithm. The algorithm first enables the distribution of cost relationships among multi-park IEMGs. Then, using a method that combines a CCS device with a P2G unit in line with the tiered carbon trading scheme, it expands on the model of single IEMGs managing thermal, electrical, and refrigeration energy. Finally, the comparison of simulation cases proves that the proposed strategy significantly reduces the external energy dependence while keeping the total cost of the users unchanged, and the cost of interaction with the external grid is reduced by 56.64%, the gas cost is reduced by 27.78%, and the carbon emission cost is reduced by 29.54% by joining the stepped carbon trading mechanism.

Abstract With the advance of artificial intelligence technology, large language models such as ChatGPT are drawing substantial interest in the healthcare field. A growing body of research has evaluated ChatGPT's performance in various medical departments, yet its potential in pediatrics remains under‐studied. In this study, we presented ChatGPT with a total of 4160 clinical consultation questions in both English and Chinese, covering 104 pediatric conditions, and repeated each question independently 10 times to assess the accuracy of its responses in pediatric disease treatment recommendations. ChatGPT achieved an overall accuracy of 82.2% (95% CI: 81.0%–83.4%), with superior performance in addressing common diseases (84.4%, 95% CI: 83.2%–85.7%), offering general treatment advice (83.5%, 95% CI: 81.9%–85.1%), and responding in English (93.0%, 95% CI: 91.9%–94.1%). However, it was prone to errors in disease definitions, medications, and surgical treatment. In conclusion, while ChatGPT shows promise in pediatric treatment recommendations with notable accuracy, cautious optimism is warranted regarding the potential application of large language models in enhancing patient care.

IntroductionCecropin AD (CAD), a renowned antimicrobial peptide, has shown promising potential in treating various bacterial infections. This study investigates the protective effects of CAD against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced intestinal adversities in chickens.MethodsSixty SPF-grade chicks were divided into groups and exposed to different dosages of CAD, followed by LPS administration. The study assessed the impact of CAD on intestinal mucosal injury markers, oxidative stress, and inflammation.ResultsLPS significantly increased Diamine oxidase (DAO) and D-lactate (D-LA) levels, both indicators of intestinal mucosal injury. CAD treatment substantially attenuated these elevations, particularly at higher dosages. Additionally, CAD markedly reduced oxidative stress in intestinal tissues, as shown by normalized antioxidant levels and decreased reactive oxygen species. Histological analysis supported these findings, showing better-preserved villi structures in CAD-treated groups. Furthermore, CAD significantly reduced IL-6 and IL-8 expression post-LPS stimulation and effectively regulated the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway, decreasing associated factors like NLRP3, Caspase-1, IL-1b, and IL-18.DiscussionThe study demonstrates CAD's therapeutic potential in alleviating LPS-induced intestinal injuries. The protective effects are primarily attributed to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidative actions and modulation of the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway.

Abstract Background We aimed to compare differences in infant feeding patterns (breastfeeding and complementary food supplementation) between children with the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and typically developing (TD) children through a multicentre study. The relationship between these patterns and later core symptoms and neurodevelopment in children with ASD was also investigated. Methods We analysed breastfeeding and complementary feeding patterns in 1389 children with ASD and 1190 TD children. The Children Neuropsychological and Behavior Scale-Revision 2016 (CNBS-R2016) was used to assess neurodevelopmental levels. Yanbian cattle have a unique meat flavor, and high-grade meat is in short supply. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to improve the added value of Yanbian cattle low-fat meat and provide a theoretical reference for the subsequent development of an excellent starter. Rump meat from Yanbian cattle was dry-aged and then screened for protease-producing fungi. Three protease-producing fungi (Yarrowia hollandica (D4 and D11), Penicillium oxalicum (D5), and Meesziomyces ophidis (D20)) were isolated from 40 d dry-aged beef samples, and their ability to hydrolyze proteins was determined using bovine sarcoplasmic protein extract. SDS-PAGE showed that the ability of Penicillium oxalicum (D5) to degrade proteins was stronger than the other two fungi. In addition, the volatile component content of sarcoplasmic proteins in the D5 group was the highest (45.47%) and comprised the most species (26 types). Metabolic pathway analysis of the fermentation broth showed that phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan biosynthesis was the most closely related metabolic pathway in sarcoplasmic protein fermentation by Penicillium oxalicum (D5). Dry-aged beef-isolated Penicillium oxalicum serves as a potential starter culture for the fermentation of meat products.

Establishing a wind–photovoltaic (PV)–hydro hybrid system is a new method to utilize wind and PV power, but how multi-energy complementation affects the working modes of cascaded hydropower plants (CHP) has not been fully revealed. In this study, a wind–PV–CHP system was considered as an example and a multi-objective optimal operation model was constructed considering the maximization of both the power generation and the minimum power output. Simulation and comparison results showed that (1) the regulation capability of the hydropower was mainly used for two purposes: one was to drive the early water storage (or water release reduction) of CHP to improve the overall utilization efficiency of water resources, and the other was to drive the hydropower output to cooperate with the non-regulatable wind–PV power output in order to achieve a complementary output; (2) the different minimum outputs determined the regulation capacity for complementing the wind–PV power output, which represents the degree of complementation; and (3) complementation would significantly affect the minimum output and slightly affect the average output of CHP. Overall, this study improves our understanding of wind–PV–hydro complementary operation and can serve as a reference for actual project operation.

ABSTRACT Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs, especially butyric acid) have been demonstrated to play a promising role in the development of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Recently, the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis is also suggested to increase the risk of ASD. However, the mechanism underlying SCFAs and HPA axis in ASD development remains unknown. Here, we show that children with ASD exhibited lower SCFA concentrations and higher cortisol levels, which were recaptured in prenatal lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-exposed rat model of ASD. These offspring also showed decreased SCFA-producing bacteria and histone acetylation activity as well as impaired corticotropin-releasing hormone receptor 2 (CRHR2) expression. Sodium butyrate (NaB), which can act as histone deacetylases inhibitors, significantly increased histone acetylation at the CRHR2 promoter in vitro and normalized the corticosterone as well as CRHR2 expression level in vivo. Behavioral assays indicated ameliorative effects of NaB on anxiety and social deficit in LPS-exposed offspring. Our results imply that NaB treatment can improve ASD-like symptoms via epigenetic regulation of the HPA axis in offspring; thus, it may provide new insight into the SCFA treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders like ASD. IMPORTANCE Growing evidence suggests that microbiota can affect brain function and behavior through the “microbiome–gut–brain’’ axis, but its mechanism remains poorly understood. Here, we show that both children with autism and LPS-exposed rat model of autism exhibited lower SCFA concentrations and overactivation of HPA axis. SCFA-producing bacteria, Lactobacillus, might be the key differential microbiota between the control and LPS-exposed offspring. Interestingly, NaB treatment contributed to the regulation of HPA axis (such as corticosterone as well as CRHR2) and improvement of anxiety and social deficit behaviors in LPS-exposed offspring. The potential underlying mechanism of the ameliorative effect of NaB may be mediated via increasing histone acetylation to the CRHR2 promoter. These results enhance our understanding of the relationship between the SCFAs and the HPA axis in the development of ASD. And gut microbiota-derived SCFAs may serve as a potential therapeutic agent to neurodevelopmental disorders like ASD.

The solution behavior of a second element in the primary phase (α(Mg)) is important in the design of high-performance alloys. In this work, three sets of features have been collected: a) interaction features of solutes and Mg obtained from first-principles calculation, b) intrinsic physical properties of the pure elements and c) structural features. Based on the maximum solid solubility values, the solution behavior of elements in α(Mg) are classified into four types, e.g., miscible, soluble, sparingly-soluble and slightly-soluble. The machine learning approach, including random forest and decision tree algorithm methods, is performed and it has been found that four features, e.g., formation energy, electronegativity, non-bonded atomic radius, and work function, can together determine the classification of the solution behavior of an element in α(Mg). The mathematical correlations, as well as the physical relationships among the selected features have been analyzed. This model can also be applied to other systems following minor modifications of the defined features, if required.

Terrestrial ecosystems play a pivotal role in the global carbon sequestration process, and their photosynthetic capacity is highly susceptible to fluctuations in climate conditions. In 2022, the Yangtze River Basin (YRB) in China experienced an extensive and severe compounded heat and drought event. Compared with the past two decades, our results revealed that the temperature increased by approximately 0.78 ± 0.45 °C and precipitation decreased by about 45.20 ± 30.10 mm from July to October 2022 over the whole YRB. Region I (west from the Sichuan Basin and east to the easternmost of the basin) experienced a more severe temperature increase (0.98 ± 0.35 °C) and precipitation decrease (−60.27 ± 23.75 mm) compared to the other regions in the YRB. Changes in temperature and precipitation resulted in an increase of 0.14 ± 0.06 kPa in vapor pressure deficit (VPD) and a decrease of 5.28 ± 2.09 m ^3 m ^−3 in soil moisture, ultimately leading to a total loss of 26.12 ± 16.09 Tg C (about −6.08% compared to the 2001–2021 mean) in gross primary productivity (GPP) of July to October in 2022. It is noteworthy that broadleaf forests, which comprise 12.03% of the natural vegetation in region I, contributed only 6.46% of the GPP loss between July and October compared to other vegetation types, showing greater resistance to this climate event. Our findings from multiple linear regressions highlight that high temperatures and reduced soil moisture together contribute up to 94% photosynthesis loss in July–October in natural vegetation in region I, while the contribution of reduced VPD is minimal. In the future, we will further explore the impacts of compound heat and drought events on the coupled carbon and water cycles across different ecosystems, in order to better understand the ecosystem response mechanisms to extreme climates.

The rapid development of telemedicine technology has brought great convenience to people’s lives. Alongside generating great convenience, protecting patients’ privacy has become increasingly important. Therefore, to solve the above problems, this paper proposes a quantum privacy query protocol based on GHZ-like states. The protocol first utilizes existing diagnostic information for classification to encode symptom attributes. Then, the correlation after measurement using GHZ-like entangled states is utilized so that the querying party can only obtain a key message with the assistance of a third party. Through the above operation, the database cannot know the address of the message queried by the querying party, and the querying party is also unable to obtain more information. The protocol not only adds decoy factor detection but also adds the process of authentication while checking for illegal eavesdropping. It makes the protocol sufficiently resistant to joint attacks, participant attacks, and external system credit attacks. This database privacy query protocol ensures that the database service is more effective and its environment is more secure.

With the progress of economic development and increase in income, there have been significant transformations in the food consumption patterns among Chinese residents. Grain consumption has declined while the consumption of livestock products such as meat, poultry, eggs, and milk has gradually risen. Moreover, noteworthy adjustments have been observed in the meat consumption structure itself, with a substantial increase in poultry consumption and a significant decrease in pork consumption as representative of red meat. This study collects data mainly from the “Brick Agricultural Database” and “China National Grain & Oils Information Center”. And then, we employ the China Agricultural Industry Model (CASM) to simulate the economic and ecological consequences of augmenting poultry consumption as a substitute for red meat intake. The research findings demonstrate that ensuring an adequate intake of livestock products for residents without any decline will stimulate the doubling of China’s poultry meat demand by 2035 compared to 2020 while replacing pork. This would reduce feed grain requirements by 50 million tons and achieve carbon emission reductions amounting to 82 million tons. If we consider the consumption of poultry consumption growth in conjunction with its substitution for other red meats such as pork, beef, and mutton, this will save approximately 20 million tons of feed grains and lead to a reduction of around 103 million tons in carbon emissions. In conclusion, promoting future increases in poultry consumption as a substitute for pork and other red meat will yield extensive economic andecological benefits contributing toward international food security goals, as well as global carbon reduction targets. Additionally, advocating for increasing poultry consumption will also reduce the risk of chronic diseases and malignant tumors; this will significantly improve the national health states.

Abstract Background Acute kidney injury (AKI) stage 3, one of the most severe complications in patients with heart transplantation (HT), is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. We aimed to develop a machine learning (ML) model to predict post-transplant AKI stage 3 based on preoperative and perioperative features. Methods Data from 107 consecutive HT recipients in the provincial center between 2018 and 2020 were included for analysis. Logistic regression with L2 regularization was used for the ML model building. The predictive performance of the ML model was assessed using the area under the curve (AUC) in tenfold stratified cross-validation and was compared with that of the Cleveland-clinical model. Results Post-transplant AKI occurred in 76 (71.0%) patients including 15 (14.0%) stage 1, 18 (16.8%) stage 2, and 43 (40.2%) stage 3 cases. The top six features selected for the ML model to predicate AKI stage 3 were serum cystatin C, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), right atrial long-axis dimension, left atrial anteroposterior dimension, serum creatinine (SCr) and FVII. The predictive performance of the ML model (AUC: 0.821; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.740–0.901) was significantly higher compared with that of the Cleveland-clinical model (AUC: 0.654; 95% [CI]: 0.545–0.763, p

Abstract We conducted a pilot trial of an intervention targeting intersectional stigma related to being pregnant and living with HIV while promoting capabilities for achieving ‘respected motherhood’ (‘what matters most’) in Botswana. A pragmatic design allocated participants to the intervention (N = 44) group and the treatment-as-usual (N = 15) group. An intent-to-treat, difference-in-difference analysis found the intervention group had significant decreases in HIV stigma (d = − 1.20; 95% CI − 1.99, − 0.39) and depressive symptoms (d = − 1.96; 95% CI − 2.89, − 1.02) from baseline to 4-months postpartum. Some, albeit less pronounced, changes in intersectional stigma were observed, suggesting the importance of structural-level intervention components to reduce intersectional stigma.

Highlights Polyimide-based flexible microneedle array (PI-MNA) electrodes realize high electrical/mechanical performance and are compatible with wearable wireless recording systems. The normalized electrode–skin interface impedance (EII) of the PI-MNA electrodes reaches 0.98 kΩ cm2 at 1 kHz and 1.50 kΩ cm2 at 10 Hz, approximately 1/250 of clinical standard electrodes. This is the first report on the clinical study of microneedle electrodes. The PI-MNA electrodes are applied to clinical long-term continuous monitoring for polysomnography. Abstract Microneedle array (MNA) electrodes are an effective solution to achieve high-quality surface biopotential recording without the coordination of conductive gel and are thus very suitable for long-term wearable applications. Existing schemes are limited by flexibility, biosafety, and manufacturing costs, which create large barriers for wider applications. Here, we present a novel flexible MNA electrode that can simultaneously achieve flexibility of the substrate to fit a curved body surface, robustness of microneedles to penetrate the skin without fracture, and a simplified process to allow mass production. The compatibility with wearable wireless systems and the short preparation time of the electrodes significantly improves the comfort and convenience of electrophysiological recording. The normalized electrode–skin contact impedance reaches 0.98 kΩ cm2 at 1 kHz and 1.50 kΩ cm2 at 10 Hz, a record low value compared to previous reports and approximately 1/250 of the standard electrodes. The morphology, biosafety, and electrical/mechanical properties are fully characterized, and wearable recordings with a high signal-to-noise ratio and low motion artifacts are realized. The first reported clinical study of microneedle electrodes for surface electrophysiological monitoring was conducted in tens of healthy and sleep-disordered subjects with 44 nights of recording (over 8 h per night), providing substantial evidence that the electrodes can be leveraged to substitute for clinical standard electrodes.

Abstract Background Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a group of clinically heterogenic neurodevelopmental disorders, with intellectual disability being one of its common comorbidities. No large-sample, multicenter study has focused on the neurodevelopmental aspect of preschoolers with ASD. This study investigated the neurodevelopmental characteristics of preschoolers with ASD in China and explored the association between them and the core symptoms. Methods We enrolled 1019 ASD preschoolers aged 2–7 years old from 13 cities around China between May 2018 and December 2019, and used the revised Children Neuropsychological and Behavior Scale (CNBS-R2016) to assess their neurodevelopment. Their autistic core behaviors were evaluated based on their Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS), Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC), Child Autism Rating Scale (CARS), and communication warning behavior (CWB) scores in the CNBS-R2016. Results Based on general developmental quotient (GQ) 70%) was found in language and personal-social skills, followed by fine motor skills (68.9%). Gross motor skills had the lowest DD rate (34.0%). We found that fine motor, language, and personal-social developmental quotients (DQs) were significantly lower than gross motor skills in no DD (GQ > 70), mild DD (GQ 55–69), and moderate and below DD groups (GQ ≤ 54). Furthermore, the DQs for language and personal-social skills were significantly lower than for gross and fine motor skills in both DD groups. The ABC, SRS, CARS, and CWB scores in the no DD group were the lowest, moderate in the mild DD group, and highest in the moderate and below DD group. Besides, negative correlations were found between the DQs of the four domains and the ABC, SRS, CARS, and CWB scores, of which the language and personal-social skills DQs had the strongest correlations. Conclusions Preschoolers with ASD had unbalanced neurodevelopment domain patterns and their neurodevelopmental levels were negatively correlated with the autism core symptoms. Hence, pediatricians should actively evaluate the neurodevelopment of children with ASD and conduct long-term follow-up during their early childhood to promote early diagnosis and develop personalized intervention plans. Abstract Background Task-sharing is a promising strategy to expand mental healthcare in low-resource settings, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Research on how to best implement task-sharing mental health interventions, however, is hampered by an incomplete understanding of the barriers and facilitators to their implementation. This review aims to systematically identify implementation barriers and facilitators in evidence-based task-sharing mental health interventions using an implementation science lens, organizing factors across a novel, integrated implementation science framework. Methods PubMed, PsychINFO, CINAHL, and Embase were used to identify English-language, peer-reviewed studies using search terms for three categories: “mental health,” “task-sharing,” and “LMIC.” Articles were included if they: focused on mental disorders as the main outcome(s); included a task-sharing intervention using or based on an evidence-based practice; were implemented in an LMIC setting; and included assessment or data-supported analysis of barriers and facilitators. An initial conceptual model and coding framework derived from the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research and the Theoretical Domains Framework was developed and iteratively refined to create an integrated conceptual framework, the Barriers and Facilitators in Implementation of Task-Sharing Mental Health Interventions (BeFITS-MH), which specifies 37 constructs across eight domains: (I) client characteristics, (II) provider characteristics, (III) family and community factors, (IV) organizational characteristics, (V) societal factors, (VI) mental health system factors, (VII) intervention characteristics, and (VIII) stigma. Results Of the 26,935 articles screened (title and abstract), 192 articles underwent full-text review, yielding 37 articles representing 28 unique intervention studies that met the inclusion criteria. The most prevalent facilitators occur in domains that are more amenable to adaptation (i.e., the intervention and provider characteristics domains), while salient barriers occur in domains that are more challenging to modulate or intervene on—these include constructs in the client characteristics as well as the broader societal and structural levels of influence (i.e., the organizational, mental health system domains). Other notable trends include constructs in the family and community domains occurring as barriers and as facilitators roughly equally, and stigma constructs acting exclusively as barriers. Conclusions Using the BeFITS-MH model we developed based on implementation science frameworks, this systematic review provides a comprehensive identification and organization of barriers and facilitators to evidence-based task-sharing mental health interventions in LMICs. These findings have important implications for ongoing and future implementation of this critically needed intervention strategy, including the promise of leveraging task-sharing intervention characteristics as sites of continued innovation, the importance of but relative lack of engagement with constructs in macro-level domains (e.g., organizational characteristics, stigma), and the need for more delineation of strategies for task-sharing mental health interventions that researchers and implementers can employ to enhance implementation in and across levels. IntroductionWorking memory (WM) plays a key role in many cognitive processes, and great interest has been attracted by WM for many decades. Recently, it has been observed that the reports of the memorized color sampled from a uniform distribution are clustered, and the report error for the stimulus follows a Gaussian distribution.MethodsBased on the well-established ring model for visuospatial WM, we constructed a spiking network model with heterogeneous connectivity and embedded short-term plasticity (STP) to investigate the neurodynamic mechanisms behind this interesting phenomenon.ResultsAs a result, our model reproduced the clustering report given stimuli sampled from a uniform distribution and the error of the report following a Gaussian distribution. Perturbation studies showed that the heterogeneity of connectivity and STP are necessary to explain experimental observations.ConclusionOur model provides a new perspective on the phenomenon of visual WM in experiments.

AimThere are no prospective longitudinal studies on the association between well-controlled gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) without pharmacologic therapy and the physical growth of offspring in infancy. We aimed to identify the trajectories in physical growth (from 0–12 months of age) in the offspring of mothers with well-controlled GDM without pharmacologic therapy in a prospective cohort in China.MethodsThis study included 236 offspring of mothers with GDM and 369 offspring of mothers without GDM. Mothers with GDM were not on pharmacologic therapy. The length and weight of infants were measured at 0, 1, 3, 6, and 12 months. Linear mixed-effect models and linear mixed-effect models were applied.ResultsThe fully adjusted model showed that the weight-for-age z-score (WAZ), length-for-age z-score (LAZ), and BMI-for-age z-score (BMIZ) were similar at birth for the GDM and control groups. However, subsequent increases in WAZ and BMIZ for the GDM group lagged the increases for the control group at the subsequent periods of observation, 0–1, 0–6, and 0–12 months.ConclusionsWell-controlled GDM without pharmacologic therapy may normalize physical growth of offspring at birth and decelerate their weight gain in infancy. Whether glycemic control can mitigate the long-term effects of GDM on the growth trajectory in offspring remains unclear.

Background: Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a group of complex neurodevelopmental disorders with unclear etiologies. Our recent work indicated that maternal exposure to triclosan (TCS) significantly increased the autistic-like behavior in rats, possibly through disrupting neuronal retinoic acid signaling. Although environmental endocrine disruptors (EEDs) have been associated with autism in humans, the relationship between TCS, one of the EEDs found in antibacterial daily necessities, and autism has received little attention. Objective: The aims of this multicenter study were to evaluate TCS concentrations in typically developing (TD) children and ASD children, and to determine the relationship between TCS levels and the core symptoms of ASD children. Methods: A total of 1345 children with ASD and 1183 TD children were enrolled from 13 cities in China. Ages ranged between 2 and 7 years. A questionnaire was used to investigate the maternal use of antibacterial daily necessities (UADN) during pregnancy. The core symptoms of ASD were evaluated using the Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC), Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), Social Response Scale (SRS), and the Children Neuropsychological and Behavior Scale-Revision 2016 (CNBS-R2016). The TCS concentration was measured using LC-MS/MS. Results: Maternal UADN during pregnancy may be an unrecognized potential environmental risk factor for ASD (OR=1.267, P = 0.023). Abstract To feed the world population while mitigating pressing nitrogen (N) pollution problems, tremendous efforts have been devoted to developing and implementing N‐efficient technologies in crop or livestock production, but limited progress has been made. The N management improvement on a farm does not necessarily translate to N pollution reduction on a broader scale due to complex responses of natural and human systems and lack of coordination among stakeholders. Consequently, it is imperative to develop an N management framework that encompasses the complex N dynamics across systems and spatial scales, yet simple enough to guide policies and actions of various stakeholders. Here, we propose a new framework, CAFE, that defines four N management systems (Cropping, Animal‐crop, Food, and Ecosystem) in a hierarchical manner, and apply it to 13 representative countries to partition N surpluses across systems in a simple and consistent manner, thereby facilitating the identification and prioritization of systems‐based intervention strategies. Surprisingly, the Cropping system contributes less than half of the total N surplus within its Ecosystem for most countries, highlighting the importance of N management beyond croplands. This framework reveals that the relevant priorities and key stakeholders for enhanced N management vary among countries, such as improving the Cropping‐system efficiencies in China, adjusting the animal‐crop portfolio in the Netherlands, reducing food wastage in the U.S., and lowering crop storage losses and increasing overall production capacities in African countries. As N surplus increases along the CAFE hierarchy, systems‐based intervention strategies are revealed: (a) coupling chemical fertilizers with other N sources by maintaining half of the N from manure and biological N fixation; (b) coupling animal‐crop production by reducing animal density to lower than 1.2 livestock units per hectare, and increasing self‐sufficiency of animal feed to above 50%; (c) coupling food trade with domestic demand and production; and (d) coupling population needs for economic opportunities with environmental capacity of the region. This novel framework can help unpack the “wicked” N management challenges across systems to provide new insights and tools for improving N management on and beyond farms.

PurposeGiven the increasing prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and the public health problems it creates; early identification and interventions are needed to improve the prognosis of ASD. Hence, this study surveyed different groups of people who are likely to have early contact with autistic children to provide an informed basis for early detection and effective diagnosis and interventions.MethodsThree groups of people were recruited for the study from Changshou District and Wushan County of Chongqing, in Western China: 269 medical workers, 181 educators, and 188 community residents. Their understanding and knowledge of autism was measured using a self-made questionnaire.ResultsThe positive finding was that the three groups had a certain level of understanding of autism, but they had some misunderstandings of the core problems, and there were significant differences in the understanding of autism among the three groups. Younger medical workers knew more about autism than older ones did. The ability of educators and community residents to identify autistic symptoms was positively related to their level of education and their experience with autistic children. Television and the internet were the main sources of information about autism for participants.ConclusionsThe medical workers, educators, and community residents in the investigated areas in western China may be able to identify early signs of autism but have an inadequate understanding of autism. In areas far from cities, it is necessary to strengthen the training of medical workers in primary health care to promote autism screening and referral in educational institutions and communities. Using internet technology to provide public education and professional training about autism in remote areas could be a very promising method in Western China.

Abstract Straw incorporation is an effective measure for increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) thereby improving soil quality and crop productivity. However, quantitative assessments of the transformation and distribution of exogenous carbon (C) in soil aggregates under various field fertilization practices have been lacking. In this study, we collected topsoil samples (0–20 cm) from three fertilization treatments (no fertilization control, CK; inorganic fertilizer, IF; inorganic fertilizer plus manure, IFM) at a 29-year long-term Mollisol experiment in Northeast China. We then mixed the soil samples with 13C-labeled maize straw (δ13C = 246.9‰), referred as CKS, IFS, and IFMS, and incubated them in-situ for 360 days. Initial and incubated soil samples were separated into four aggregate fractions (> 2, 1–2, 0.25–1, and 2 mm aggregates (2.2–5.8 g kg−1), 1–2 mm aggregates (2.4–4.6 g kg−1), and 2, 1–2, 0.25–1, and 2, 1–2, 0.25–1, and 2 mm aggregates (9.4–16%). Abstract Liquid metal represents a highly conductive and inherently deformable conductor for the development of stretchable electronics. The widespread implementations of liquid metal towards functional sensors and circuits are currently hindered by the lack of a facile and scalable patterning approach. In this study, we report a fully solution-based process to generate patterned features of the liquid metal conductor. The entire process is carried out under ambient conditions and is generally compatible with various elastomeric substrates. The as-prepared liquid metal feature exhibits high resolution (100 μm), excellent electrical conductivity (4.15 × 104S cm−1), ultrahigh stretchability (1000% tensile strain), and mechanical durability. The practical suitability is demonstrated by the heterogeneous integration of light-emitting diode (LED) chips with liquid metal interconnects for a stretchable and wearable LED array. The solution-based technique reported here is the enabler for the facile patterning of liquid metal features at low cost, which may find a broad range of applications in emerging fields of epidermal sensors, wearable heaters, advanced prosthetics, and soft robotics.

Abstract Background High prevalence of sleep problems have been reported in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This study aims to investigate the sleep conditions of ASD children in China, and explore the relationship between the common sleep problems and core symptoms and developmental levels. Methods Using a cross-sectional design, we included 2 to 7-year-old children from 13 cities in China: 1310 with ASD and 1158 with typically-developing (TD) children. The neurodevelopmental level was evaluated with the revised Children Neuropsychological and Behavior Scale (CNBS-R2016). ASD were diagnosed with DSM-5 and Child Autism Rating Scale (CARS). the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS), the Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC) and the communication warning behavior sub-scale in CNBS-R2016 valued autism behaviors. Different countries and regions in the world are experiencing structural transformation of the agri-food system, which is represented by the increase of meat and feed consumption. Based on a detailed review of the global and China’s agri-food system transformation, this paper constructs an analytical framework of the impact of agri-food system transformation on food security and discusses the food security issues in China after 2000. The results show that the proportion of the dimension of agri-food system transformation in the food security index has a significant downward trend, and its positive effect on food security is decreasing. At the same time, due to the growth in demand for meat during the transformation of the agri-food system, China imports a large number of feed grains such as soybean and corn, leading to a decline in domestic food self-sufficiency. Furthermore, the coupling coordination degree between China’s agri-food system transformation and food quantity security decreases, and their development tends to deviate. In the future, increasing the consumption of grain-saving poultry and curbing table waste are feasible strategies for China to cope with the transformation of agri-food system and ensure food security. China’s problems and solutions in facing the transformation of its agri-food system can provide some references for other developing countries.

Abstract Background Vitamin A deficiency (VAD) and sleep disturbances have been reported in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The influence of vitamin A (VA) levels on sleep regulation and sleep disturbances in ASD has garnered concern. The present study aimed to characterize the association of VA levels with sleep disturbances in children with ASD. Methods This cross-sectional study compared children with ASD (n = 856) to typically developing children (TDC; n = 316). We used the Children’s Sleep Habits Questionnaire to assess sleep disturbances, Childhood Autism Rating Scale to evaluate the severity of autism symptoms, and Autism Behavior Checklist and Social Responsiveness Scale to assess autism behaviors. Serum VA levels were estimated using high-performance liquid chromatography. Multivariable linear regression and two-way analysis of variance were performed to investigate if VAD was related to sleep disturbances in children with ASD. Results Children with ASD had lower serum VA levels and a higher prevalence of sleep disturbances than TDC did. The incidence of VAD in ASD children with sleep disturbances was higher, and the symptoms more severe than those without sleep disturbances and TDC. Interestingly, the interaction between VAD and sleep disturbances was associated with the severity of autism symptoms. Conclusion VAD and sleep disturbances are associated with the core symptoms of ASD in children. Regular monitoring of sleep and VA levels may be beneficial for children with ASD. Abstract Antibiotic exposure during pregnancy will adversely affect the growth of offspring; however, this remains controversial and the mechanism is poorly understood. To study this phenomenon, we added ceftriaxone sodium to the drinking water of pregnant rats and continuously monitored the body weight of their offspring. The results showed that compared with the control group, the offspring exposed to antibiotics during pregnancy had a higher body weight up to 3 weeks old but had a lower body weight at 6 weeks old. To determine the role of the gut microbiota and its metabolites in the growth of offspring, we collected feces for sequencing and further established that the experimental group has a different composition ratio of dominant bacteria at 6 week old, among which S24–7 correlated negatively with body weight and the metabolites that correlated with body weight-related unique flora were L-Valine, L-Leucine, Glutaric acid, N-Acetyl-L-glutamate, and 5-Methylcytosine. To further explore how they affect the growth of offspring, we submitted these data to Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes website for relevant pathway analysis. The results showed that compared with the control, the following metabolic pathways changed significantly: Valine, leucine, and isoleucine biosynthesis; Protein digestion and absorption; and Mineral absorption. Therefore, we believe that our findings support the conclusion that ceftriaxone sodium exposure in pregnancy has a long-lasting adverse effect on the growth of offspring because of an imbalance of gut microbiota, especially S24–7, via different metabolic pathways.

Abstract This study aims to explore the psychosocial and behavioral problems of children and adolescents in the early stage of reopening schools. In this national cross-sectional study, a total of 11072 students from China were naturally divided into two groups based on their schooling status: reopened schools (RS) and home schooling (HS) group. The psychosocial and behavioral functioning were measured by Achenbach Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL) and compared in these two groups. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted to explore the independent predictors associated with the psychosocial and behavioral problems. Our results showed that the students in the RS group had more adverse behaviors than that of HS group. ObjectivePeople with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often have language difficulties. This study focuses on whether there are sex differences in language ability in children with ASD and aims to analyze whether such differences may arise from developmental imbalances in the anatomical structures of Broca and Wernicke areas.MethodsThe language development quotient (DQ) scores of Gesell Developmental Scale (GDS) and the scores of language communication of Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) were used to judge the language ability, and the FREESURFER software extracted the anatomical structures of Broca and Wernicke areas on 3DT1 sequences. We analyzed the correlation between the anatomical structure of Broca/Wernicke areas and language abilities assessments.ResultsThe study initially included 44 cases of ASD, with 36 males (81.8 %) and 8 females (18.2%), and the age range was 24–72 months. Males have better language abilities than females. Specifically, the GDS verbal DQ of males was significantly higher than that of females (56.50 ± 18.02 vs. 29.23 ± 6.67, p < 0.001). Broca thickness-L was positively correlated with verbal DQ scores in GDS (r = 0.382, p = 0.011) and lower than grade 2 and 3 on the CARS verbal communication grade 4 (5.76 ± 0.17 vs. 6.21 ± 0.30 and 6.11 ± 0.35), with statistically significant differences between groups (p < 0.05).ConclusionThere were sex differences in the language abilities of preschoolers with ASD, which may be due to an imbalance development of certain structures in Broca and Wernicke areas, especially Broca area.
