Abstract Background The purpose of the study is to explore the current level of nursing students’ study skills self-efficacy, and whether general self-efficacy and self-directed learning ability mediate the relationship between perceived stress (including positive stress and negative stress) and study skills self-efficacy. Methods The survey was conducted among 1,289 nursing students including 795 students from Jinzhou Medical University and 494 students from Dalian University. Participants completed a self-designed questionnaire, which included the Study Skills Self-Efficacy Scale, Perceived Stress Scale, General Self-Efficacy Scale, Self-Directed Learning Instrument, gender, age, academic year, and other demographic characteristics. Descriptive analysis, independent-samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation analyses, and the bootstrap method were used for data analysis. Results Positive stress significantly positively predicted students’ study skills self-efficacy, with an effect size of 0.686. Moreover, general self-efficacy and self-directed learning mediate the relationship between positive stress and study skills self-efficacy in nursing students, with effect sizes of 0.235 and 0.245, respectively. The direct effect of negative pressure on students' study skills self-efficacy is not statistically significant, but it has a significant negative predictive effect on study skills self-efficacy under the mediation of general self-efficacy and self-directed learning, with effect sizes of -0.337 and -0.238, respectively. Conclusion This study explains how stress affects students’ study skills self-efficacy, and the results have certain enlightenment significance for improving the stress management ability and study skills self-efficacy of college students in the future.

Abstract High-quality development paths in important cities are blurry and lacking. In order to explore the important engine for Chengdu high-quality development, driving forces and obstacles recognition has emerged as a pivotal technological solution. Using the Chengdu in Sichuan province of China as a research area and quantitative data from 2010 to 2019, this study has used content mining to recognize urban high-quality development (UHQD) variables, and calculated variables’ weights by entropy weight method, and explored driving forces and obstacles of UHQD by the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) method. The main findings are: (1) there are 36 UHQD variables; (2) Chengdu high-quality development overall level soars from 2017 to 2019, only with two negative growth rates in 2011, 2015; (3) There are 3 key driving force paths: (1) improving green development by volume of industrial wastewater discharged, comprehensively utilised ratio of industrial solid wastes, harmless treatment rate of domestic garbage; (2) stressing open development by total import and export/GDP, actual use of foreign capital, number of foreign tourists/total tourists; and (3) intensifying shared development by funds for urban residents under basic provision protection. (4) 3 clearing obstacles paths can also realize Chengdu high-quality development: (1) improving innovative development level by R&D internal outlay, patent authorisations, state high-level tech enterprises; (2) optimizing coordinated development level by the proportion of tertiary industry; (3) promoting shared development level by urban basic pension insurance. According to these findings, suggestions are put forward to promote Chengdu high-quality development from the perspective of policy implementation.

Abstract Objective The purpose of this study is to construct an organ system-centered undergraduate nursing professional training model and explore its application effect. Methods This study is divided into two steps. In the early stage, literature review and expert consultation were used to establish the training mode (curriculum and assessment standard) of nursing undergraduate specialty based on organ system reform. Secondly, a cross-sectional survey method was used to investigate the training quality of nursing students who graduated from Jinzhou Medical University from 2007 to 2017 under this model. Results A five-module curriculum system was established, including general courses, public basic courses, professional education courses, expanding elective courses and concentrated practical teaching. Under the teaching reform of organ system, the nursing graduates of Jinzhou Medical University, who are mainly employed in public hospitals, are generally not satisfied with their jobs, salaries, contents and prospects. Their overall satisfaction with their alma mater is very high; Graduates have certain independent core competence; Employers are basically satisfied with graduates. Conclusion The training mode of undergraduate nursing specialty based on organ system reform basically meets the training requirements and objectives.

Abstract Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a prevalent acute infectious disease caused by enteroviruses, presenting substantial public health challenges in Shanghai, especially among children. The dynamic nature of HFMD’s etiology necessitates an ongoing evaluation of its epidemiological and virological trends to inform effective control strategies. This study aims to investigate the epidemiological patterns and viral evolution of HFMD in Fengxian District, Shanghai, China, with a focus on shifts in predominant viral strains over a 14-year period. We conducted a retrospective analysis of HFMD cases reported to the National Notifiable Disease Reporting System in Fengxian District from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2022. Epidemiological trends, strain prevalence, and demographic impacts were assessed. A total of 27,272 HFMD cases were documented during the study period, with incidence showing pronounced seasonal fluctuations—peaking in spring and summer and a lesser peak in autumn. Abstract Background To investigate the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between depressive symptoms and the prevalence of frailty and its components in a nationally representative sample of middle-aged and older Chinese adults. Method The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) provided data on 2581 (after inclusion and exclusion criteria) adults aged ≥ 45 years. Every two years, face-to-face, computer-aided personal interviews (CAPI), and structured questionnaires were used to follow up with the respondents. The Chinese version of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D) was used to evaluate depressive symptoms, and the Fried criteria were used to measure frailty. The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for the association of exposure (depressive symptoms at baseline) with the onset of the outcome (frailty and its components) in the individuals at baseline were analyzed by binary logistic regression. Results At baseline, 11.62% of participants had frailty, and 57.92% had depressive symptoms. In the cross-sectional analysis, depressive symptoms (OR = 5.222, 95%CI 3.665–7.442) were associated with frailty. In the longitudinal analysis, after adjusting for the full set of covariates among participants free of baseline frailty, depressive symptoms were significantly associated with incident frailty during the short term (OR = 2.193, 95%CI 1.324–3.631) and the long term (OR = 1.926, 95%CI 1.021–3.632). Meanwhile, depressive symptoms were associated with an increased risk of weakness (OR = 1.990, 95%CI 1.250–3.166), slowness (OR = 1.395, 95%CI 1.044–1.865), and exhaustion (OR = 2.827, 95%CI 2.150–3.719) onset during the short-term. Depressive symptoms were associated with an increased risk of exhaustion (OR = 2.869, 95%CI 2.004–4.109) onset during the long-term. Conclusion Among middle-aged and older adults, depressive symptoms could predict frailty during 2 years of follow-up and 4 years of follow-up. When considering potential confounding factors, depressive symptoms were considered a predictor of weakness, slowness, and exhaustion. Interventions aimed at preventing depressive symptoms may be beneficial in reducing frailty and its components.

Abstract Osteosarcoma (OS) derived small extracellular vesicles (OS-sEVs) have been shown to induce the formation of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), characterized by elevated pro-inflammatory factor expression and enhanced migratory and contractile abilities. These CAFs play a crucial role in priming lung metastasis by orchestrating the pre-metastatic niche (PMN) in the lung. Disrupting the communication between OS-sEVs and lung fibroblasts (LFs) emerges as a potent strategy to hinder OS pulmonary metastasis. Our previously established saponin-mediated cargo-elimination strategy effectively reduces the cancer-promoting ability of tumor-derived small extracellular vesicles (TsEVs) while preserving their inherent targeting capability. In this study, we observed that cargo-eliminated OS-sEVs (CE-sEVs) display minimal pro-tumoral and LFs activation potential, yet retain their ability to target LFs. The uptake of OS-sEVs by LFs can be concentration-dependently suppressed by CE-sEVs, preventing the conversion of LFs into CAFs and thus inhibiting PMN formation and pulmonary metastasis of OS. In summary, this study proposes a potential strategy to prevent LFs activation, PMN formation in the lung, and OS pulmonary metastasis through competitive inhibition of OS-sEVs’ function by CE-sEVs.

Abstract Background Nursing students are encountering a range of health issues. Assessing social support is a key component in most questionnaire surveys related to health status, aiming to investigate the relationships and mechanisms between health status and social support to enhance overall health. Therefore, it is essential to seek out appropriate instruments to evaluate social support for nursing students. The Oslo-3 Social Support Scale (OSSS-3) is a reliable and concise instrument for evaluating social support. To date, there have been no studies validating the OSSS-3 based on Item Response Theory (IRT) models. Also, an officially validated Chinese version has not been found. The current research intended to verify the Chinese version of the OSSS-3. Methods The OSSS-3 was translated into Chinese and culturally adapted. Subsequently, the OSSS-3 was validated by employing the Classical Test Theory (CTT) and IRT models. Results The split-half reliability was 0.622. The Cronbach’s α coefficient was 0.687. The correlations between each item and total scores varied from 0.723 to 0.835. The retest coefficient was 0.907. The content validity index was 0.933. A single common factor was extracted and accounted for 61.559% of the variance. The item loading values on the single factor were between 0.743 and 0.814. The communalities were between 0.552 and 0.663. There was no variance between males and females (P = 0.055). The difference in scores between the top (30%) and bottom (30%) groups attained significance. IRT models results revealed that the discrimination parameters ranged from 1.39 to 2.33 and difficulty parameters increased monotonically. Conclusion The OSSS-3 demonstrates satisfying psychometric properties and is a proper instrument for measuring social support in Chinese nursing students.

Abstract Mulberry bacterial wilt is a devastating disease that is difficult to control and causes serious economic losses to the sericulture industry. This disease is mostly caused by a diverse group of pathogenic and opportunistic bacteria including, Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum, Pantoea ananatis, Enterobacter cloacae complex (ECC), Klebsiella pneumoniae species complex (KpSC), and K. oxytoca complex (KoC). Due to the lack of a rapid and reliable test to simultaneously detect these complex pathogens of mulberry wilt, we developed a multiplex PCR (mPCR) assay to detect five virulence-related genes carried by the pathogenic bacteria of mulberry bacterial wilt disease. The primers were designed for the virulence-related genes: pleD (GGDF structural domain-containing protein), yjfP (esterase), pelY (peripheral pectate lyase), ampD (N-acetyl-anhydromuranmyl-L-alanine amidase), and ripW (type III effector). Overall, the developed mPCR assay showed highly specific, sensitive and reproducible detection of target pathogens. Briefly, the results showed that the mPCR was highly specific in individual reactions, and the lowest detection concentration of the five pathogenic bacteria was 1.87 × 103 CFU/mL (DNA = 2.45 pg/μL). From 46 natural mulberry wilt samples, the mPCR detection rates of P. ananatis, ECC, KpSC, KoC and R. pseudosolanacearum were 8.69, 91.3, 34.7, 23.9 and 65.21%, respectively. The traditional culture media isolation methods showed comparable results. The pathogenicity test of 84 suspected pathogenic bacteria revealed that the morbidity (average morbidity level) caused by the pathogenic bacteria detected by mPCR was ≥ 65.5%, while the morbidity of the undetected pathogenic bacteria was ≤ 35.5%. Based on these results, we believe that the mPCR developed in the present study will be useful in rapid, reproducible, and sensitive detection of the pathogenic bacteria causing mulberry bacterial wilt including, R. pseudosolanacearum, P. ananatis, ECC, KpSC, and KoC. Abstract To investigate the screening and predicting functions of obesity- and lipid-related indices for type 2 diabetes (T2D) in middle-aged and elderly Chinese, as well as the ideal predicted cut-off value. This study's data comes from the 2011 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). A cross-sectional study design was used to investigate the relationship of T2D and 13 obesity- and lipid-related indices, including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist–height ratio (WHtR), visceral adiposity index (VAI), a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), conicity index (CI), Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), triglyceride- glucose index (TyG index) and its correlation index (TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, TyG-WHtR). The unadjusted and adjusted correlations between 13 indices and T2D were assessed using binary logistic regression analysis. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was used to determine the usefulness of anthropometric indices for screening for T2D and determining their cut‑off value, sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve (AUC). The study comprised 9488 people aged 45 years or above in total, of whom 4354 (45.89%) were males and 5134 (54.11%) were females. Among them were 716 male cases of T2D (16.44%) and 870 female cases of T2D (16.95%). Abstract Background Borderline personality traits play a significant role in nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI), particularly in depressed youths. NSSI is also highly correlated with negative life events. This research aimed to explore the connections between negative life events, borderline personality traits, and NSSI. Methods The study included 338 depressed youth aged 13 to 25 years. Self-reported measures and clinical interviews were utilized to evaluate the depressive symptoms, borderline personality traits, negative life events, and NSSI behaviours of these participants. Identifying variables linked to NSSI was the aim of our analysis, and we also conducted a mediation analysis to look into the influence of borderline traits on the connection between negative life events and NSSI. Results Of the 338 depressed youth, approximately 59.47% (201/338) displayed NSSI, which was associated with greater clinical severity. Borderline traits had an independent influence on NSSI and it partially explained the connection between negative life events and NSSI, even when accounting for depression symptoms. Depressed youth who were more vulnerable to NSSI behaviours often experienced negative life events such as interpersonal relationships, academic pressure, being punished, and loss. Conclusions Our research suggests that depressed youth who experience more negative life events are more likely to experience NSSI, and negative life events indirectly influence nonsuicidal self-injury through borderline personality traits. Implementing interventions focused on mitigating borderline symptoms could be a promising therapeutic approach for addressing NSSI in young people.

Abstract Background Depressive symptoms are one of the most common psychiatric disorders, with a high lifetime prevalence rate among middle-aged and elderly Chinese. Obesity may be one of the risk factors for depressive symptoms, but there is currently no consensus on this view. Therefore, we investigate the relationship and predictive ability of 13 obesity- and lipid-related indices with depressive symptoms among middle-aged and elderly Chinese. Methods The data were obtained from The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Our analysis includes individuals who did not have depressive symptoms at the baseline of the CHARLS Wave 2011 study and were successfully follow-up in 2013 and 2015. Finally, 3790 participants were included in the short-term (from 2011 to 2013), and 3660 participants were included in the long-term (from 2011 to 2015). The average age of participants in short-term and long-term was 58.47 years and 57.88 years. The anthropometric indicators used in this analysis included non-invasive [e.g. waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI), and a body mass index (ABSI)], and invasive anthropometric indicators [e.g. lipid accumulation product (LAP), triglyceride glucose index (TyG index), and its-related indices (e.g. TyG-BMI, and TyG-WC)]. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to examine the predictive ability of various indicators for depressive symptoms. The association of depressive symptoms with various indicators was calculated using binary logistic regression. Results The overall incidence of depressive symptoms was 20.79% in the short-term and 27.43% in the long-term. In males, WC [AUC = 0.452], LAP [AUC = 0.450], and TyG-WC [AUC = 0.451] were weak predictors of depressive symptoms during the short-term (P 0.05). Conclusion The research indicates that in the middle-aged and elderly Chinese, most obesity- and lipid-related indices have statistical significance in predicting depressive symptoms, but the accuracy of these indicators in prediction is relatively low and may not be practical predictors.

Abstract The purpose of the study was to determine whether changes in body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) in middle-aged and elderly Chinese are associated with metabolic syndrome. In this cohort investigation, 3697 middle-aged and elderly people aged 45 or over were recruited from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). The National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (2005) defined metabolic syndrome (MetS). With Cox regression analysis, we calculated hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for MetS based on BMI-WC change categories. To assess the prevalence of MetS, the changes in BMI and WC levels were classified into four quartiles based on their relative and absolute changes. In subjects whose BMI and WC decreased (HR = 0.338; 95% CIs 0.264, 0.433) as well as those whose BMI increased and their WC decreased (HR = 0.375; 95% CIs 0.228, 0.499), metabolic syndrome risk was significantly lower compared with those with increases in both BMI and WC. Regarding the absolute changes in BMI, the lowest percentile of BMI was significantly lower in both males (HR = 0.302; 95% CIs 0.204, 0.448) and females (HR = 0.486; 95% CIs 0.354, 0.667) for the risk of metabolic syndrome. Similar results were observed in the absolute changes in WC, with the lowest quantile of WC having a significant impact on MetS risk in males (HR = 0.170; 95% CIs 0.107, 0.270) and females (HR = 0.303; 95% CIs 0.217, 0.424). The risk of metabolic syndrome was significantly associated with changes in BMI and WC in middle-aged and elderly Chinese. A reduced BMI and WC are associated with lower metabolic syndrome risks in middle-aged and elderly people.

Abstract Carbon quantum dots are emerging as promising nanomaterials for next-generation displays. The elaborate structural design is crucial for achieving thermally activated delayed fluorescence, particularly for improving external quantum efficiency of electroluminescent light-emitting diodes. Here, we report the synthesis of onion-like multicolor thermally activated delayed fluorescence carbon quantum dots with quantum yields of 42.3–61.0%. Structural, spectroscopic characterization and computational studies reveal that onion-like structures assembled from monomer carbon quantum dots of different sizes account for the decreased singlet-triplet energy gap, thereby achieving efficient multicolor thermally activated delayed fluorescence. The devices exhibit maximum luminances of 3785–7550 cd m−2 and maximum external quantum efficiency of 6.0–9.9%. Importantly, owing to the weak van der Waals interactions and adequate solution processability, flexible devices with a maximum luminance of 2554 cd m−2 are realized. These findings facilitate the development of high-performance carbon quantum dots-based electroluminescent light-emitting diodes that are promising for practical applications.

Abstract Background An extensive literature has shown a strong connection between maternal parenting practices and adolescent mental health problems. However, it has been difficult for previous research to map a dynamic concurrent and prospective relationships within and between types of parenting practices and adolescent mental health problems. The present study addressed these issues using a network analysis approach and a longitudinal design. Methods This study involved 591 Chinese adolescents (249 males; mean age at T1 = 13.53) and their mothers (mean age at T1 = 39.71) at two time points (T1 and T2) with eighteen months apart. Mothers reported their parenting practices including warmth, monitoring, inductive reasoning, hostility, and harshness, while adolescents reported their mental health problems including anxiety, depression, aggression, and conduct problems. Network analysis was conducted for contemporaneous networks at T1 and T2 and temporal networks from T1 to T2. Results The contemporaneous networks revealed the negative association between monitoring and conduct problems served as the main pathway through which parenting practices and adolescent mental health mutually influenced each other, and further, warmth was the most influential parenting practice on adolescent mental health. The temporal network revealed that maternal hostility exerted the most influence on adolescent mental health problems, whereas adolescents’ depression was most influenced by maternal parenting practices. Moreover, maternal hostility was most predicted by maternal harshness. Conclusions This study presents a novel perspective to gain a better understanding of the dynamics between and within maternal parenting practices and adolescent mental health problems. Findings highlight maternal harshness and warmth as potential prevention and intervention targets for adolescent mental health problems.

AbstractGlycosylation is a ubiquitous cellular or microenvironment-specific post-translational modification that occurs on the surface of normal cells and tumor cells. Tumor cell-associated glycosylation is involved in hematogenous metastasis. A wide variety of tumors undergo aberrant glycosylation to interact with platelets. As platelets have many opportunities to engage circulating tumor cells, they represent an important avenue into understanding the role glycosylation plays in tumor metastasis. Platelet involvement in tumor metastasis is evidenced by observations that platelets protect tumor cells from damaging shear forces and immune system attack, aid metastasis through the endothelium at specific sites, and facilitate tumor survival and colonization. During platelet-tumor-cell interactions, many opportunities for glycan-ligand binding emerge. This review integrates the latest information about glycans, their ligands, and how they mediate platelet-tumor interactions. We also discuss adaptive changes that tumors undergo upon glycan-lectin binding and the impact glycans have on targeted therapeutic strategies for treating tumors in clinical settings.

BackgroundPebrine, caused by microsporidium Nosema bombycis, is a devastating disease that causes serious economic damages to the sericulture industry. Studies on development of therapeutic and diagnostic options for managing pebrine in silkworms are very limited. Methionine aminopeptidase type 2 (MetAP2) of microsporidia is an essential gene for their survival and has been exploited as the cellular target of drugs such as fumagillin and its analogues in several microsporidia spp., including Nosema of honeybees.MethodsIn the present study, using molecular and bioinformatics tools, we performed in-depth characterization and phylogenetic analyses of MetAP2 of Nosema bombycis isolated from Guangdong province of China.ResultsThe full length of MetAP2 gene sequence of Nosema bombycis (Guangdong isolate) was found to be 1278 base pairs (bp), including an open reading frame of 1,077 bp, encoding a total of 358 amino acids. The bioinformatics analyses predicted the presence of typical alpha-helix structural elements, and absence of transmembrane domains and signal peptides. Additionally, other characteristics of a stable protein were also predicted. The homology-based 3D models of MetAP2 of Nosema bombycis (Guangdong isolate) with high accuracy and reliability were developed. The MetAP2 protein was expressed and purified. The observed molecular weight of MetAP2 protein was found to be ~43–45 kDa. The phylogenetic analyses showed that MetAP2 gene and amino acids sequences of Nosema bombycis (Guangdong isolate) shared a close evolutionary relationship with Nosema spp. of wild silkworms, but it was divergent from microsporidian spp. of other insects, Aspergillus spp., Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and higher animals including humans. These analyses indicated that the conservation and evolutionary relationships of MetAP2 are closely linked to the species relationships.ConclusionThis study provides solid foundational information that could be helpful in optimization and development of diagnostic and treatment options for managing the threat of Nosema bombycis infection in sericulture industry of China.

MUC21, also known as Epiglycanin, is a high-molecular-weight glycoprotein with transmembrane mucin properties. It consists of a tandem repeat domain, a stem domain, a transmembrane domain and a cytoplasmic tail. MUC21 is expressed is observed in normal tissues in organs like the thymus, testes, lungs, and large intestine. Research has shown that MUC21 is expressed in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, lung adenocarcinoma, glioblastoma, thyroid cancer, melanoma, and various other malignant tumors in distinctive manner. Additionally, tumor invasion, metastasis, and poor prognosis are linked to it. Some researchers believe that MUC21 has the potential to become a new target in cancer treatment. This review aims to deliver a comprehensive overview of the glycosylation, function, and research progress of MUC21 in multiple types of cancer and infectious diseases.

Abstract With the rapid development of the economy, people have increasingly higher requirements for the comfort of living spaces, and the result is the sharp increase in building energy consumption. Several design parameters influence living space comfort and building energy efficiency. Since the same design standard can include different design parameter combinations, synergic relationships may exist between these criteria for one case. Identifying these synergic relationships requires an inverse problem approach. This paper established a model by combining an improved genetic algorithm (IGA) and numerical calculation to determine the synergic design parameter relationships (e.g. the thermophysical building material properties and energy-saving factors). For $${{\text{I}}}_{{\text{sum}}}= {0} $$ I sum = 0 , the shading coefficient significantly influenced the linear function between the thermal conductivity and insulation thickness. In this case, the insulation thickness was exponentially related to the shading coefficient, while the thermal conductivity of the insulation material significantly impacted the synergic relationship. For $${\text{ESR}}{=65}\%$$ ESR = 65 % , the insulation thickness was a segmented function of the shading coefficient. The results verified that the proposed model was efficient and reliable for identifying the synergic relationships between energy-saving parameters. In engineering applications, designers can select the optimal design parameter combination based on the relationship curve between the parameters in this paper according to the local market conditions and specific design requirements.

Abstract Background Nurses play an important role in healthcare development. The increasing demands for nurses mean that nursing schools at the undergraduate level have the responsibility to ensure patient safety and quality care through a well-designed curriculum. This research aimed to evaluate the effect of the teaching method combined with situational awareness and case-based seminars in a comprehensive nursing skills practice course on the level of self-directed learning, professional identity, academic self-efficacy, theoretical scores, practical scores, teaching satisfaction, and student competence among nursing students. Methods The research population comprised was of the grades of 2019 and 2020 at Wannan Medical College in Anhui Province, China (n = 169, response rate 77.88%). The observation group from grade 2020 used the teaching method combined with situational awareness and case-based seminars, whereas the control group from grade 2019 used the traditional teaching mode. General information, self-directed learning, a professional identity, and academic self-efficacy were compared between the two groups. This research used means and standard deviations, chi-square, the Shapiro–Wilk test, and an independent sample t-test for statistical analyses. Results Compared with the control group, the total scores for self-directed learning, professional identity, and academic self-efficacy were higher in the observation group (78.80 ± 7.89 vs 60.21 ± 7.44, 63.39 ± 7.87 vs 52.35 ± 7.68, and 22.31 ± 3.30 vs 21.28 ± 2.31, respectively, with P 0.05). Conclusion The teaching method combined with situational awareness and case-based seminars in a comprehensive nursing skills practice course has the potential to improve the level of self-directed learning, professional identity, and academic self-efficacy, and it increases theoretical scores, practical scores, teaching satisfaction, and student competence.

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are widely utilized in all walks of industries, and node localization is still essential as one of the fundamental functionalities. Moreover, the marine predators algorithm (MPA), as one of the swarm intelligence optimization algorithms, has proven to possess strong search capability and high convergence speed. Therefore, for the poor optimization ability of the least squares method in the DV-Hop method, a reconstructed marine predator algorithm with adaptive enhancement (RMPA-AE) for WSN node localization is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a population diversity expression based on Euclidean distance is proposed to reconstruct the phases of the algorithm. Then, an adaptive enhancement strategy is proposed to improve the local exploitation ability of the algorithm with respect to its tendency to fall into local optimality. Subsequently, a global perturbation strategy based on the iteration number is proposed for the re-generation of the population at FADs to achieve a wide range of individual jumps. Finally, the experimental results for 26 benchmark functions demonstrate the search capability of the proposed RMPA-AE algorithm, and the superiority of the proposed algorithm compared to the state-of-the-art algorithms. The feasibility of the proposed algorithm is also demonstrated in the node localization simulation experiments.

Abstract Objective Hypertension refers to the persistent elevation of blood pressure above the established normal range, resulting in increased pressure exerted by blood on the walls of blood vessels during its circulation. Recent studies have identified significant associations between obesity and lipid-related indices, as well as hypertension. Nevertheless, these studies have yet to comprehensively examine the correlation between the two variables. Our objective is to identify the fat and lipid-related indices that have the strongest correlation with hypertension. Method There was a total of 9488 elderly and middle-aged Chinese citizens who participated in this investigation. The participants in this research were separated into distinct gender cohorts. The participants were classified into normal and hypertensive categories according to their gender, with hypertension defined as a blood pressure level of 140/90 mmHg or higher, or a history of hypertension. Through the utilization of binary logistic regression analyses and the receiver operator curve (ROC), the optimal among fourteen indicators associated with obesity and lipids were identified. Results After adjusting for variables, statistical analysis showed that all 14 measures of obesity and lipid were risk factors for hypertension. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis reveals that the Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) has the highest degree of relationship to hypertension. Simultaneously, a statistically significant association between hypertension and these 14 variables was observed in both males and females. Conclusion There was a significant independent association between various parameters related to obesity and lipid-related index and the presence of hypertension, indicating that these factors can be considered risk factors for hypertension. CVAI and WHtR (waist height ratio) can be used to screen the high-risk groups of hypertensions in middle-aged and elderly people in China, and then take individualized health care measures to reduce the harm of hypertension.

The effects of particles on precipitation reactions in aluminum alloy have been widely unknown. Al–Fe–Mn–Si–Mg–Cu alloy strengthened with uniformly distributed Al(Fe,Mn)Si nanoparticles was successfully produced in this study. The alloy was then characterised using high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), to provide a fundamental insight into the interface precipitation. Interfacial precipitations of several tens of nanometers in size was formed after aging, which were found to be Al5Cu6Mg2 and Si phases. The results demonstrated that the facetted α-Al(Fe,Mn)Si particles had a significant influence on precipitation adjacent to the α-Al(Fe,Mn)Si/Al interfaces. Semi-coherent α-Al(Fe,Mn)Si/Al interfaces were revealed to have periodically spaced misfit dislocations that are generally considered to be beneficial to heterogeneous precipitation. They not only reduce nucleation energy barriers but also act as short-circuit diffusion paths to accelerate growth rates by transporting solute atoms and vacancies.

The effect of pre-stretching on solid-liquid interaction, microstructure and brazing performance of AA4343/AA3xxx/AA4343 layered aluminum sheet during brazing at the atomic level (solid solution), nanoscale (dislocation) and micron level (grain boundary) are studied by glow discharge optical emission spectrometry (GDOES), scanning electron microscope (SEM), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The microstructure after brazing largely depends on the forming condition. The driving force of liquid film migration (LFM) is the reduction of stored deformation energy. The interaction between the liquid clad and solid core layers changes the elemental distribution and microstructure, which in turn affects the brazing performance of the sheet. The results reveal the mechanism of solid-liquid interaction of layered aluminum sheet during brazing and clarify the driving force of LFM of layered aluminum sheet during brazing. Consequently, these results provide important insights for the design and theoretical research of functional layered aluminum sheet.

Background: This study investigates the link between SARS-CoV-2-associated long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). LUAD is a prevalent and aggressive lung cancer type. The study aims to identify prognostic lncRNAs and construct a predictive model while shedding light on potential therapeutic targets during the COVID-19 era. Results: Eight SARS-CoV-2-associated lncRNAs with significant prognostic value in LUAD were identified, forming a robust prognostic risk model. The model exhibited strong predictive performance, with high area under the ROC curve (AUC) values at one, three, and five years. Furthermore, the risk score was an independent prognostic factor, correlating with the cancer stage. Notably, differences in immune function, drug sensitivity, and immune checkpoint expression were observed between high- and low-risk groups. Conclusions: This study unveils eight SARS-CoV-2-associated lncRNAs as valuable prognostic markers in LUAD, yielding a reliable prognostic risk model. Additionally, the model's ability to predict patient outcomes and its correlation with cancer stage underscores its clinical utility. The observed variances in immune function, drug sensitivity, and immune checkpoint expression suggest potential avenues for personalized LUAD treatment strategies. Clinicians can utilize the prognostic risk model to predict LUAD patient outcomes, informing treatment decisions. The insights into immune function, drug sensitivity, and immune checkpoints offer opportunities for tailored therapies, potentially enhancing patient outcomes. Abstract Objective To translate the Academic Goals Orientation Questionnaire (AGOQ) into Chinese and to determine the validity and reliability of the (AGOQ) in Chinese nursing students based on SEM and IRT multidimensional models. Methods The participants were 654 nursing students with an age range of 17–26 years (mean age 21.61 ± 1.73 years). The psychometric properties of AGOQ were investigated based on a dual analytical perspective of structural equation modeling (SEM) and item response theory (IRT). Results The Cronbach’s α value of the questionnaire is 0.895. A four-factor model was obtained by exploratory factor analysis, which explained the variance of 71.892%. With confirmatory factor analysis, a new four-factors model was built and showed an acceptable goodness-of-fit, chi-square/degree of freedom (CMIN/DF) = 4.008, goodness of fit index (GFI) = 0.932, adjusted goodness of fit index (AGFI) = 0.905, comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.952, incremental fit index (IFI) = 0.952, Tucker Lewis index (TLI) = 0.941. In the analysis part of IRT, according to the comparison between Akek’s information criterion (AIC) and Bayesian information criterion (BIC), we choose the Graded Response Model (GRM) for analysis. The results show that the difficulty value is monotonically increasing, and the discrimination of all items is greater than 0.19, which shows that 16 items can be retained. Conclusions This study tested the psychometric characteristics of AGOQ of nursing students in China. The results confirmed that the Chinese version of AGOQ has good psychometric characteristics and can be used to measure the academic goal orientation of nursing students in China.

Plant functional traits are effective indicators and predictors of environmental change, revealing plants’ ecological countermeasures and adaptability through phenotypic plasticity. We conducted a 6-year grazing experiment on typical temperate grassland to assess the impact of different grazing periods on the plasticity and variability of the functional traits of Leymus chinensis and the relationship between traits and individual plant biomass. Our study included four treatments: CK (enclosure), T1 (grazing in May and July), T2 (grazing in June and August), and T3 (grazing in July and September). The results for 13 functional traits indicated that the T3 treatment showed the smallest reduction in individual plant biomass, plant height, leaf area, stem length, and leaf length, making it the most effective type of grassland management and optimal for the maintenance and restoration of L. chinensis traits. Under T1, T2, and T3, the plasticity of stem weight, total leaf weight, total leaf area, and stem length was higher and crucial for regulating individual plant biomass. The results underscore that the changes and plasticity of dominant species under grazing treatments are key to understanding the relationship between ecosystem function and grassland management. This study provides a theoretical basis and data support for the adaptive utilization and restoration management of typical grassland resources.

The 7046 aluminum alloy possesses a favorable fatigue property, corrosion resistance and weldability, but its moderate strength and plasticity limit its wider application and development. In the present study, severe plastic deformation (SPD) was applied prior to T6 treatment to significantly enhance the strength and toughness of the 7046 aluminum alloy. The results show that the alloy processed by four passes of equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) at 300 °C prior to T6 treatment exhibits an excellent mechanical performance, achieving an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and elongation (EL) of 485 MPa and 19%, respectively, which are 18.6% and 375% higher than that of the T6 alloy. The mechanical properties of the alloy are further improved by an additional room temperature (RT) rolling process, resulting in a UTS of 508 MPa and EL of 23.4%, respectively. The increased presence of η′ and Al6Mn phases in the 300°C4P-R80%-T6 and 300°C4P-T6 alloys contributes to a strengthening and toughening enhancement in the SPD-processed T6 alloy. The findings from this work may shed new insights into enhancing the 7046 aluminum alloy.

ObjectiveFrailty and activities of daily living (ADL) disability are common conditions among older population. Studies on the bidirectional relationship between frailty and ADL are limited. The current study examined the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between frailty and ADL in middle-aged and older Chinese individuals.MethodsThe data was collected through the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), conducted in 2011, 2013, and 2015, encompassing 17,284 individuals aged ≥45 years. We excluded individuals without follow-up data. 2,631 participants finished the baseline survey. The definition of ADL disability encompasses difficulty in engaging in either basic activities of daily living (BADL) or instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). Frailty was assessed according to the Fried criteria. Logistic regression was utilized to examine odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for assessing the cross-sectional relationships between ADL with frailty at baseline. The prediction effects were explored using Cox proportional hazards analysis, testing hazard ratios (HRs) and 95%CIs.ResultsIn cross-sectional analysis, BADL [OR = 6.660 (4.519–9.815)], IADL [OR = 5.950 (4.490–7.866)], and ADL [OR = 5.658 (4.278–7.483)] exhibited significant associations with frailty; frailty demonstrated significant associations with BADL [OR = 6.741 (4.574–9.933)], IADL [OR = 6.042 (4.555–8.016)] and ADL [OR = 5.735 (4.333–7.591)]. In longitudinal analysis, IADL and ADL were significantly associated with frailty in participants without baseline frailty in the short-term period [IADL: HR = 1.971 (1.150–3.379), ADL: HR = 1.920 (1.146–3.215)], IADL exhibited a significant association with frailty in the long-term period [HR = 2.056 (1.085–3.895)]. There was no significant link observed between frailty and an elevated risk of disability onset in BADL, IADL and ADL during the short-term period. When considering the long-term perspective, frailty exhibited a significant association with an elevated risk of disability onset in BADL [HR= 1.820 (1.126–2.939)] and IADL [HR = 1.724 (1.103–2.694)].ConclusionIn middle-aged and older adults, ADL and IADL disability predicted frailty after 2-year follow-up, IADL disability predicted frailty after 4-year follow-up. Moreover, frailty did not predict BADL, IADL and ADL disability after 2-year follow-up. However, frailty predicted BADL and IADL disability after 4-year follow-up.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to assess the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and its influencing factors among intern nursing students after the full liberalization of the COVID-19 prevention and control policy in China.MethodsParticipants completed the online survey from January 14 to January 19, 2023. A demographic questionnaire, COVID-19 and internship-related questionnaire, the Fear of COVID-19 scale, the Primary Care PTSD Screen, and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale were used to conduct the online survey.ResultsOf 438 participants, 88.4% tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 6 months. The prevalence of fear, resilience, and PTSD was 16.9, 15.5, and 11.2%, respectively. Direct care of COVID patients in hospital (OR = 2.084, 95%CI 1.034 ~ 4.202), the experience of occupational exposure (OR = 2.856, 95%CI 1.436 ~ 5.681), working with an experienced team (OR = 2.120, 95%CI 1.070 ~ 4.198), and fear COVID-19 (OR = 8.269, 95%CI 4.150 ~ 16.479) were significantly and positively associated with PTSD in nursing internship students.ConclusionAfter COVID-19 full liberalization in China, intern nursing students still experienced pandemic-related mental distress, which can bring PTSD. Adequate support and counseling should be provided, as needed, to intern nursing students who are about to enter the workforce and have experienced severe PTSD symptoms related to COVID-19. Our findings indicated that should understand the importance of screening, formulate intervention strategies and preventive measures to address psychosocial problems, and provide coping skills training to intern nursing students.

Abstract Background Epidemiological studies have revealed multiple risk factors for metabolic syndrome. However, there are no consistent findings on the association between famine exposure, age at menarche, and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome. This cross-sectional study aimed to reveal the individual and combined effects of famine exposure and age at menarche on the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among elderly women. Methods Four thousand seven hundred seventy participants between 60 and 93 years of age were selected from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. Statistical differences between the baseline characteristics of famine exposure, age at menarche, and metabolic syndrome were evaluated using the t-test, F-test, and Chi-square test. Three multivariable-adjusted logistic regression models were used to test the association between famine exposure, age of menarche, and the odds ratio of metabolic syndrome. Results Two thousand one hundred ninety-eight (46.08%) participants had metabolic syndrome, while 2572 (53.92%) participants did not. Furthermore, 3068 (64.32%) women reported onset of menarche under 15 years of age, while 1702 (35.68%) women reported onset of menarche above 16 years of age. Regarding the separate association of famine exposure and age of menarche with metabolic syndrome, in model three, the adolescence/adulthood famine exposure group vs. no famine exposure group odds ratio was 2.45 (95% CI 2.02, 2.97), and the older than 16 years vs. younger than 15 years group odds ratio was 1.23 (95% CI 1.09, 1.39), which was the highest odds ratio among the three models. Regarding the combined association of famine exposure and age of menarche with metabolic syndrome, in model three, among the age of menarche ≤ 15 years group, the adolescence/adulthood famine exposure vs. no famine exposure group odds ratio was 2.45 (95% CI: 1.91, 3.14); among the menarche age ≥ 16 years group, the adolescence/adulthood famine exposure stages vs. exposed group odds ratio was 3.27 (95% CI: 2.44, 4.38), which was the highest odds ratio among the three models. Conclusion These findings suggested that famine exposure and age at menarche, either separately or in combination, were positively associated with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among older women.

Abstract Objective To improve the quality of community nursing teaching practice and cultivate undergraduate nursing students who meet the quality accreditation standards of our nursing profession, and to explore the establishment of an undergraduate nurse practice model. Methods Using the methods of literature review, survey, expert consultation, and discussion, we established the steps and contents of community practice teaching for undergraduate nursing students, and implemented them for the students of Grades 2014, 2015, and 2016, and evaluated the “community-hospital-community” practice model through various forms, such as student self-evaluation, faculty evaluation, exit examination, and evaluation by certified experts. Result A three-stage community nursing practice model of “community-hospital-community” was established for undergraduate nursing students. After three stages of practice, nursing undergraduates successfully passed the practical assessments and achieved excellent grades in each stage that met the requirements of the training program. In the first stage (community probation), community probation emphasizes a fundamental understanding of the community, using free clinics, health education, and home visits as entry points to effectively cultivate students’ job competence and proficiency in nursing operations and nurse-patient communication skills. In the second stage (internship in the hospital), through nursing internships in various systems, students are trained to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical skills and consolidate their understanding of fundamental knowledge, theory, and techniques. They are capable of preventing, diagnosing, intervening, and providing health education for common, frequent, urgent and critical complications in various clinical systems. They can formulate nursing plans and implement whole-person care. In the third stage (returning to the community for internship), students can master basic skills such as nursing operations and patient communication skills, and then they can enter the community internship. Conclusion The community nursing practice model of “community- hospital- community” for undergraduate nursing students can systematically train undergraduate nursing students’ ability to work in the community.

Abstract Background In this study, a cross-sectional survey was used to understand and analyze the health status and health needs of the elderly in the community. The cluster analysis method was used to explore the relationship between health needs items and investigate the commonness among health demand items, to provide a reference for the development of health management of the elderly with chronic diseases. Methods We used convenience sampling to recruit the participants (aged 60 and above) from four urban community centers in Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, China, in this study. This study uses the Medical Outcomes Study(MOS)36-Item Short-Form Health Survey. The self-designed questionnaire includes sociodemographic characteristics, chronic diseases, physical examination conditions, illness in the past two weeks, and a health needs questionnaire. SPSS 18.0 was used for data entry and analysis. Data analysis methods included descriptive statistical analysis, t-test, one-way analysis, cluster analysis, and linear multiple regression analysis. Results The rate of health needs among the elderly in the community for various health services is 1.3–69.7%, of which the top three are: regular physical examination (69.7%), day Care Center (67.7%), the establishment of a Medical Alert Systems (66.1%). The health needs of the elderly in the community are divided into three categories: basic needs (24 items), health education (13 items), and first aid (2 items). The regression analysis found that the influencing factors of health status were age, revenue and expenditure, medical expenses, health education, basic needs, and first aid. Conclusions The community should strengthen the management of chronic diseases of the elderly and the publicity and education of related knowledge, and provide complementary health care services according to the health needs of the elderly, improve the health of the elderly, and improve the quality of life of the elderly.

Abstract Objective The wrist is the second most commonly involved location for GCTB, while distal ulna is a relatively rare location and limited evidence exists on which surgical approaches and reconstruction techniques are optimal. We carried out a multicenter retrospective study to evaluate the recurrence rate of distal ulna GCTB and the long-term functional outcomes of different surgery options. Methods All 28 patients received surgical treatment for distal ulna GCTB in one of three tertiary bone tumor centers between May 2007 and January 2021 with a minimum two-year follow-up. Surgical options included intralesional curettage or en bloc resection (one of 3 types). Functional outcomes were assessed by the MSTS score, the QuickDASH instrument, MWS, and MHQ according to the latest treatment. Results Overall recurrence rate was 14.2%. The curettage group (N = 7) had a significantly higher recurrence rate compared to en bloc resection (N = 21) (42.9% vs 4.8%) (mean follow-up: 88.8 mo). Seven patients received the Darrach procedure, 5 received the original Sauvé–Kapandji procedure, and 9 received the modified Sauvé–Kapandji procedure with extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) tenodesis. Of the 4 patients having a recurrence, 1 received the Darrach EBR, 2 received the modified Sauvé–Kapandji procedure, and 1 received resection for soft tissue recurrence. Only MWS and esthetics in the MHQ scores were different (curettage, Darrach, Sauvé–Kapandji, and Sauvé–Kapandji with ECU tenodesis [MWS: 96.5 ± 1.3 vs 91.5 ± 4.7 vs 90.8 ± 2.8 vs 91.5 ± 3.6; esthetics in MHQ: 98.5 ± 3.1 vs 89.9 ± 4.7 vs 93.8 ± 4.4 vs 92.6 ± 3.8], respectively). Conclusions En bloc resection for distal ulna GCTB had a significantly lower recurrence rate compared with curettage and achieved favorable functional outcome scores. Given the higher recurrence rate after curettage, patients should be well informed of the potential benefits and risks of selecting the distal radioulnar joint-preserving procedure. Moreover, reconstructions after tumor resection of the ulna head do not appear to be necessary.

Abstract Cancer cachexia is characterized by weight loss and skeletal muscle wasting. Based on the up-regulation of catabolism and down-regulation of anabolism, here we showed genetic mutation-mediated metabolic reprogramming in the progression of cancer cachexia by screening for metabolites and investigating their direct effect on muscle atrophy. Treatment with 93 μM D-2-hydroxyglutarate (D2HG) resulted in reduced myotube width and increased expression of E3 ubiquitin ligases. Isocitrate Dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) mutant patients had higher D2HG than non-mutant patients. In the in vivo murine cancer cachexia model, mutant IDH1 in CT26 cancer cells accelerated cachexia progression and worsened overall survival. Transcriptomics and metabolomics revealed a distinct D2HG-induced metabolic imbalance. Treatment with the IDH1 inhibitor ivosidenib delayed the progression of cancer cachexia in murine GL261 glioma model and CT26 colorectal carcinoma models. These data demonstrate the contribution of IDH1 mutation mediated D2HG accumulation to the progression of cancer cachexia and highlight the individualized treatment of IDH1 mutation associated cancer cachexia.

Abstract Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) plays a key role in preventing and responding to this neurodegenerative disease. It has shown that, compared with a single imaging modality‐based classification of AD, synergy exploration among multimodal neuroimages is beneficial for the pathological identification. However, effectively exploiting multimodal information is still a big challenge due to the lack of efficient fusion methods. Herein, a multimodal fusion network based on attention mechanism is proposed, in which magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission computed tomography (PET) images are converted into feature vectors with the same dimension, while the demographic information and clinical data are preprocessed and converted into feature vectors through embedding. This attention model can focus on important feature points, fuse the multimodal information more effectively, and thus provide accurate diagnosis and prediction for different pathological stages. The results show that the model achieves an accuracy of 84.1% for triple classification tasks in normal cognition (NC) versus mild cognitive impairment (MCI) versus AD and 93.9% prediction accuracy in stable MCI (sMCI) versus progressive MCI (pMCI). In contrast to the existing multimodal diagnosis methods, our model yields a state‐of‐the‐art accuracy of AD diagnosis, which is powerful and promising in clinical practice.

Currently, tomato plant lowering is performed manually, which is both inefficient and costly. The manual process presents challenges in terms of efficiency and cost, creating a need for automated solutions in greenhouse environments. This paper addresses this issue by presenting the design and development of a tomato-plant-lowering robot utilizing machine vision and deep learning techniques. The study includes the design of an end effector optimized for plant-lowering operations based on the physical characteristics of tomato vines and roller hooks; precise positioning of roller hooks achieved through kinematic analysis and a custom dataset; integration of the RepC3 module from RT-DETR with YOLOv5s for enhanced object detection and positioning; and real-time camera feed display through an integrated application. Performance evaluation through experimental tests shows improvements in recognition accuracy, positioning precision, and operational efficiency, although the robot’s success rate in leaf removal needs further enhancement. This research provides a solid foundation for future developments in plant-lowering robots and offers practical insights and technical guidance.

Abstract Background Since March 2022, the COVID-19 epidemic has rebounded widely and frequently in China. Healthcare workers have faced grand challenges such as soaring COVID-19 patients, being busy with the nucleic acid screening of all the populations in the epidemic areas every day, and testing positive for COVID-19, all of which contributed to anxiety easily according to the Conservation of Resources theory. However, anxiety among healthcare workers is not only associated with personal health but also adversely affects the quality of health services. Therefore, it is crucial to search for suitable tools to monitor the anxiety related to COVID-19 among healthcare workers. The current study aimed to test the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS) in Chinese healthcare workers. Methods The current study employed a cross-sectional design. The CAS was translated into Chinese. Then, according to Classical Test Theory (CTT) and Item Response Theory (IRT) models, the psychometric properties of the Chinese version were measured among 811 healthcare workers. Results The split‐half reliability was 0.855. The Cronbach’s α coefficient was 0.895. The retest coefficient was 0.901 with 10 days as the retest interval. The content validity index was 0.920. In exploratory factor analysis, one common factor was extracted and explained 72.559% of the total variance. All item load values on the common factor ranged from 0.790 to 0.885, and the communality of each item ranged from 0.625 to 0.784. With confirmatory factor analysis, the single factor model showed an excellent goodness-of-fit, chi-square/degree of freedom (χ 2 /df) = 3.339, goodness of fit index (GFI) = 0.992, adjusted goodness of fit index (AGFI) = 0.975, root-mean-square error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.054, root mean square residual (RMR) = 0.005, incremental fit index (IFI) = 0.967, Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) = 0.932, and comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.966. Abstract Background Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified many single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) appearing in non-coding genomic regions in CVDs. The SNPs may alter gene expression by modifying transcription factor (TF) binding sites and lead to functional consequences in cardiovascular traits or diseases. To understand the underlying molecular mechanisms, it is crucial to identify which variations are involved and how they affect TF binding. Methods The SNEEP (SNP exploration and analysis using epigenomics data) pipeline was used to identify regulatory SNPs, which alter the binding behavior of TFs and link GWAS SNPs to their potential target genes for six CVDs. The human-induced pluripotent stem cells derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs), monoculture cardiac organoids (MCOs) and self-organized cardiac organoids (SCOs) were used in the study. Gene expression, cardiomyocyte size and cardiac contractility were assessed. Results By using our integrative computational pipeline, we identified 1905 regulatory SNPs in CVD GWAS data. These were associated with hundreds of genes, half of them non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), suggesting novel CVD genes. We experimentally tested 40 CVD-associated non-coding RNAs, among them RP11-98F14.11, RPL23AP92, IGBP1P1, and CTD-2383I20.1, which were upregulated in hiPSC-CMs, MCOs and SCOs under hypoxic conditions. Further experiments showed that IGBP1P1 depletion rescued expression of hypertrophic marker genes, reduced hypoxia-induced cardiomyocyte size and improved hypoxia-reduced cardiac contractility in hiPSC-CMs and MCOs. Conclusions IGBP1P1 is a novel ncRNA with key regulatory functions in modulating cardiomyocyte size and cardiac function in our disease models. Our data suggest ncRNA IGBP1P1 as a potential therapeutic target to improve cardiac function in CVDs.

The pivotal role of lithium (Li) in improving the comprehensive mechanical properties of third-generation Al–Li alloys remains significant even at a low content. However, the strengthening contribution of a low dosage lithium and its combination with different processing methods remain largely unknown. This study aimed to investigate the strengthening effects of room-temperature (RT) equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) and rolling on Al–0.6Li alloy. Microstructural evolution during processing was monitored by optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results revealed that simultaneous high ultimate tensile strength (UTS, 243 MPa) and yield strength (YS, 210 MPa) of the developed Al–0.6Li alloy were specifically achieved with a combination of RT ECAP and rolling, alongside an elongation (EL) of 9.5%. The gained strength improvement was primarily credited to the excellent fine-grain strengthening, as evidenced by a significant reduction in grain size from 101 μm to 1.47 μm, and dislocation strengthening, which, respectively, contributed to an increase of 91 MPa and 100 MPa in YS. Findings from this study demonstrate that with proper processing technology, the mechanical properties of Al–Li alloys with low Li content can be effectively improved, opening new avenues to develop high-performance Al–Li alloys.

Abstract Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a new diagnostic criterion based on hepatic steatosis and metabolic dysfunction. However, a comprehensive evaluation of the association of MAFLD dynamic transitions with arterial stiffness progression has yet to be conducted. This cohort study included 8807 Chinese health check-up participants (median follow-up = 50.2 months). Participants were categorized into four groups according to MAFLD status at baseline and follow-up (none, persistent, developed and regressed). Arterial stiffness progression was assessed by the annual brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (ba-PWV) increase and arterial stiffness incidence. Compared with the non-MAFLD group, the annual increase in ba-PWV was highest in the persistent-MAFLD group [6.75 cm/s/year, (95% CI 4.03–9.33)], followed by the developed—[6.35 cm/s/year, (95% CI 3.80–8.91)] and the regressed—[1.27 cm/s/year, (95% CI − 2.18 to 4.72)] MAFLD groups. Similarly, compared with the non-MAFLD group, the persistent-MAFLD group had a 1.31-fold increased arterial stiffness risk [OR 1.31; 95% CI 1.03–1.66]. The associations of MAFLD transition patterns with arterial stiffness incidence did not differ across any clinically specific subgroups evaluated. Furthermore, the potential effect of dynamic changes in cardiometabolic risk factors on arterial stiffness incidence among persistent-MAFLD participants was mostly driven by annual fasting glucose and triglyceride increases. In conclusion, persistent MAFLD was associated with an increased risk of arterial stiffness development. Moreover, in persistent-MAFLD subjects, elevated blood glucose and triglyceride levels might facilitate the arterial stiffness incidence.

Abstract Pluripotent stem cell‐derived small extracellular vesicles (PSC‐sEVs) have demonstrated great clinical translational potential in multiple aging‐related degenerative diseases. Characterizing the PSC‐sEVs is crucial for their clinical applications. However, the specific marker pattern of PSC‐sEVs remains unknown. Here, the sEVs derived from two typical types of PSCs including induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC‐sEVs) and embryonic stem cells (ESC‐sEVs) were analysed using proteomic analysis by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC‐MS/MS), and surface marker phenotyping analysis by nanoparticle flow cytometry (NanoFCM). A group of pluripotency‐related proteins were found to be enriched in PSC‐sEVs by LC‐MS/MS and then validated by Western Blot analysis. To investigate whether these proteins were specifically expressed in PSC‐sEVs, sEVs derived from seven types of non‐PSCs (non‐PSC‐sEVs) were adopted for analysis. The results showed that PODXL, OCT4, Dnmt3a, and LIN28A were specifically enriched in PSC‐sEVs but not in non‐PSC‐sEVs. Then, commonly used surface antigens for PSC identification (SSEA4, Tra‐1‐60 and Tra‐1‐81) and PODXL were gauged at single‐particle resolution by NanoFCM for surface marker identification. BackgroundMetabolic syndrome (MetS) is on the rise in developing countries and is characterized by a series of indications of metabolic disturbance. However, the prevalence of MetS varies under different definitions. The study aimed to compare five definitions of MetS in the China adult population, to explore their prevalence, characteristics and agreement.MethodsThe data for the retrospective study came from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), consisting of 9,588 participants (≥45). MetS definitions from International Diabetes Federation (IDF) (2006), National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (ATPIII) (2005), National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (ATPIII) (2001), Chinese Diabetes society (CDS) (2004) and the World Health Organization (WHO) (1999). We used binary and multivariable logistic analysis to explore factors connected with MetS.ResultsThe five definitions of MetS led to different prevalence of MetS:34.52% by IDF (2006), 38.63% by ATP (2005), 25.94% by ATP (2001), 26.31% by CDS (2004), 21.57% by WHO (1999). According to the definition of IDF (2006) (22.32% vs. 45.06%), ATPIII (2005) definition (27.99% vs. 47.82%), ATPIII (2001) definition (15.37% vs. 35.07%), CDS (2004) definition (19.96% vs. 31.80%), and WHO (1999) definition (17.44% vs. 25.14%), the prevalence of MetS in men was low but in women was high. The agreement between the five definitions for men was good except for the IDF (2006) definition and ATPIII (2001) definition (kappa = 0.51), with kappa values from 0.64 to 0.85. For women, the agreement between the five definitions was good ranging from 0.67 to 0.95, however, except for the definition of CDS (2004) and the definition of IDF (2006) (kappa = 0.44), the definition of WHO (1999) and the definition of IDF (2006) (kappa = 0.55), and the definition of WHO (1999) and the definition of ATPIII (2005) (kappa = 0.54). Binary logistic analysis indicated that although the impact and relevance varied by sex and definition, age, education, marital status, current residence, current smoking, alcohol using, taking activities and number of chronic diseases were factors connected to MetS.Conclusionthe prevalence and characteristics of the five definitions of MetS are different in the Chinese population. Therefore, it is vital to use the same definition for a country to diagnose MetS. On the other side, a lower prevalence in men than in women and the consistency of five MetS definitions are good in men but relatively poor in women.

BackgroundInsomnia in healthcare workers has become a topic of concern in the health system. The high infectivity and longevity of the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in great pressure and a high incidence of insomnia among healthcare workers. Insomnia among healthcare workers has a negative impact on high-quality healthcare services in addition to their health. Thus, it's necessary to explore insomnia's underlying mechanisms.ObjectThe present research's aims were threefold: explored the association between social support, resilience, COVID-19 anxiety, and insomnia among healthcare workers during the pandemic, elucidated the underlying mechanism of insomnia, and offered recommendations for improving the health of these workers.Materials and methodsA cross-sectional design was adopted. From May 20 to 30, 2022, 1038 healthcare workers were selected to fill out the Oslo 3-item Social Support Scale, the eight-item Athens Insomnia Scale, the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale, and the Brief Resilience Scale. Descriptive statistics and correlations were analyzed by SPSS 25.0. Mediation analysis was conducted by Mplus 8.3 using 5000 bootstrap samples.ResultsOf the participating 1038 healthcare workers, the prevalence of insomnia was 41.62% (432/1038). Significant associations were found involving insomnia, resilience, COVID-19 anxiety, and social support. Insomnia was directly affected by social support. Moreover, three indirect pathways explain how social support affected insomnia: resilience's mediating role, COVID-19 anxiety's mediating role, and the chain-mediation role of resilience and COVID-19 anxiety.ConclusionThe results validated our hypotheses and supported the opinion of Spielman et al. ‘s three-factor model of insomnia. Social support of healthcare workers has an indirect impact on insomnia in addition to its direct one via independent and chain-mediation effects of resilience and COVID-19 anxiety.

ObjectiveType 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains a major and widespread public health concern throughout the world. The prevalence of T2DM in the elderly has risen to the top of the list of public health concerns. In this study, obesity- and lipid-related indices were used to predict T2DM in middle-aged and elderly Chinese adults.MethodsThe data came from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), including 7902 middle-aged and elderly participants aged 45 years or above. The study assessed the association of obesity- and lipid-related indices and T2DM by measuring 13 indicators, including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference(WC), waist-height ratio (WHtR), conicity index(CI), visceral adiposity index (VAI), Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI), triglyceride glucose index (TyG-index) and its correlation index (TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, TyG-WHtR). The association of 13 obesity- and lipid-related indices with T2DM was investigated by binary logistic regression. Additionally, the predictive anthropometric index was evaluated, and the ideal cut-off value was established using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and area under the curve (AUC).ResultsThe study included 7902 participants, of whom 3638(46.04) and 4264(53.96) were male and female. The prevalence of T2DM in mid-aged and old adults in China was 9.02% in males and 9.15% in females. Objective To analyze the impact of preoperative anemia on perioperative red blood cell transfusion and prognosis of children undergoing septal defect repair. Methods The medical records of 208 patients under 18 years old with septal defect, i. e. ventricular septal, atrial septal, ventricular septal with atrial septal defect, in a hospital from December 2018 to March 2022 were collected. They were divided into anemic group (n=52) and non-anemic group (n=156) according to whether they were anemic before operation. The basic information, as well as preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative blood transfusion, postoperative ICU stay, postoperative infection rate and average length of stay were compared between the two groups. Abstract Background The emergency of Omicron variants, spreading in China and worldwide, has sparked a new wave of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The high infectivity and persistence of the pandemic may trigger some degrees of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for nursing students experiencing indirect trauma exposure to the epidemic, which hinders the role transition from students to qualified nurses and exacerbates the health workforce shortage. Thus, it’s well worth an exploration to understand PTSD and its underlying mechanism. Specifically, PTSD, social support, resilience, and fear of COVID-19 were selected after widely literature review. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between social support and PTSD among nursing students during COVID-19, to address the mediating role of resilience and fear of COVID-19 between social support and PTSD, and to provide practical guidance for nursing students’ psychological intervention. Abstract Manual evaluation of investment risk make results and solutions are not timely. The objective of the study is to explore intelligent risk data collecting and risk early warning of international rail construction. First, this study has identified risk variables by content mining. Second, risk thresholds are calculated by the quantile method based on data from 2010 to A.D. 2019. Third, this study has developed risk early warning system by the gray system theory model, the matter-element extension method and the entropy weight method. Fourth, the risk early warning system is verified using Nigeria coastal railway project in Abuja. This study found that: (1) the framework of the developed risk warning system contains a software and hardware infrastructure layer, a data collection layer, an application support layer, and an application layer. (2) 37 investment risk variables are recognized; (3) 12 risk variables thresholds intervals are not equally divided between 0 and 1, the others are evenly distributed; (4) based on the application of Nigeria coastal railway project in Abuja, the system verification results are consistent with real situations, which is shown that risk early warning system is reasonable and feasible. These findings offer a good reference for intelligent risk management.

Abstract Cancer-associated anemia promotes tumor progression, leads to poor quality of life in patients with cancer, and even obstructs the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors therapy. However, the precise mechanism for cancer-associated anemia remains unknown and the feasible strategy to target cancer-associated anemia synergizing immunotherapy needs to be clarified. Here, we review the possible mechanisms of cancer-induced anemia regarding decreased erythropoiesis and increased erythrocyte destruction, and cancer treatment-induced anemia. Moreover, we summarize the current paradigm for cancer-associated anemia treatment. Finally, we propose some prospective paradigms to slow down cancer-associated anemia and synergistic the efficacy of immunotherapy. Video Abstract

Whether early or late drain removal (EDR/LDR) is better for patients after pancreatic resection remains controversial. We aim to systematically evaluate the safety and efficacy of early or late drain removal in patients who undergo pancreatic resection. We searched seven databases from January 1, 2000, through September 2021, and included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or observational studies comparing EDR vs. LDR in patients after pancreatic resection. We separately pooled effect estimates across RCTs and observational studies. Finally, we included 4 RCTs with 711 patients and 8 nonRCTs with 7207 patients. Based on the pooled RCT data, compared to LDR, EDR reduced hospital length of stay (LOS) (RR: −2.59, 95% CI: −4.13 to −1.06) and hospital cost (RR: −1022.27, 95% CI: −1990.39 to −54.19). Based on the pooled nonRCT data, EDR may reduce the incidence of all complications (OR: 0.45, 95% CI: 0.32 to 0.63), pancreatic fistula (OR: 0.26, 95% CI: 0.15 to 0.45), wound infection (RR: 0.59, 95% CI: 0.06 to 5.45)), reoperation (OR: 0.62, 95% CI: 0.40 to 0.96) and hospital readmission (OR: 0.57, 95% CI: 0.47 to 0.69). There was an uncertain effect on mortality (OR from pooled nonRCTs: 1.02, 95% CI: 0.41 to 2.53) and delayed gastric emptying (RR from pooled RCTs: 0.76, 95% CI: 0.41 to 1.41). The findings of this meta-analysis suggest that early drain removal is associated with lower hospital cost, is safe and may reduce the incidence of complications compared to late drain removal in patients after pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Abstract Background Currently, the study outcomes of anthropometric markers to predict the risk of hypertension are still inconsistent due to the effect of racial disparities. This study aims to investigate the most effective predictors for screening and prediction of hypertension (HTN) in the Chinese middle-aged and more elderly adult population and to predict hypertension using obesity and lipid-related markers in Chinese middle-aged and older people. Methods The data for the cohort study came from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), including 4423 middle-aged and elderly people aged 45 years or above. We examined 13 obesity- and lipid-related indices, including waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI), waist-height ratio (WHtR), visceral adiposity index (VAI), a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI), lipid accumulation product index (LAP), conicity index (CI), Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), triglyceride-glucose index (TyG-index) and their combined indices (TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, TyG-WHtR). To compare the capacity of each measure to forecast the probability of developing HTN, the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was used to determine the usefulness of anthropometric indices for screening for HTN in the elderly and determining their cut-off value, sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve (AUC). Association analysis of 13 obesity-related anthropometric indicators with HTN was performed using binary logistic regression analysis. Results During the four years, the incident rates of HTN in middle-aged and elderly men and women in China were 22.08% and 17.82%, respectively.
