An investigation on the plastically deformed Cu-Sn-5Zn ternary alloys with Sn concentrations 1, 25, and 5 wt % is conducted. Results reveal that the change in stacking fault probability with Sn concentration for ternary Cu-Sn-5Zn alloys is similar to Cu-based binary alloy (Cu-Sn) system but behaves in a different manner from Cu-1Sn-Zn ternary alloy systems.

The conception, modeling and simulation of a silicon-based group-IV semiconductor injection laser diode in which the GeSn-alloy active region has a direct band gap wavelength in the midwave infrared for [alpha]-Sn is presented. Detailed modeling is provided for the type-I band offsets, carrier lifetimes, infrared gain profile and laser threshold current density in a Fabry-Perot cavity and the GeSn quantum-well laser diode has offered a pathway to room-temperature operation.

The SnTe, [Sn.sub.1-x][Eu.sub.x]Te and [Sn.sub.1-x][Sr.sub.x]Te films are prepared by hot wall epitaxy and optical transmission spectra are measured. Optical transmission spectra of the SnTe are simulated by assuming bumped band edge structures and a band inversion model is proposed for the [Sn.sub.1-x][Eu.sub.x]Te and [Sn.sub.1-x][Sr.sub.x]Te systems.

Several Mossbauer spectroscopies and magnetic measurements are conducted to explain the site preference, as well as the magnetic properties of the substituted strontium ferrite Sr[Fe.sub.12-x][[([Sn.sub.0.5][Zn.sub.0.5]).sub.x][O.sub.19] compounds. The magnetic and the reflection loss properties of these compounds are shown to be completely dependent on the cations distributions taking place.

The polarization-dependent x-ray absorption spectroscopy technique is employed to explain the local structures of the crystalline Zn-In-Sn oxide thin films. The reasons behind the out-of-plane and in-plane orientation of the films are also discussed.

The article discusses the properties of the various PbTe and SnTe quantum dots, which are synthesized by the process of ion implantation and are capable of precipitating in a CdTe matrix. The dots that are large in size are shown to exhibit high luminescence.

The structural and element specific magnetic properties were explored for the [Co.sub.2]MnSn and [Co.sub.2]MnSb thin films grown on GaAs (100) substrates by using pulsed laser deposition. The results provide insight into the element specific moments for Co and Mn in [Co.sub.2]MnSn and the ratios of orbital to spin magnetic moments for Co and Mn.

A metallo-supramolecular network has undergone reversible redox chemistry on indium-tin oxide (ITO) coated glass substrates with concurrent color change. The switching time, long-term stability, and coloration efficiency are competitive with polymeric materials such as the PEDOT.
