Therefore, it has become extremely important to start a communication-skills course early on in undergraduate medical study, but to date, this has been given relatively little or no emphasis. In the present study, an attempt was made to assess the attitude of undergraduate medical newbies towards learning communication-skills, and the association between attitude and various student characteristics.Patients and methods: A total of 99 recently admitted undergraduate medical students at Chitwan Medical College were included in the study, and their attitude towards communication-skills training was measured using the Communication Skills Attitude Scale (CSAS).Results: A positive learning attitude was found in over 50% of participants. The idea of a requirement of communication-skills curriculum was associated with a positive learning attitude. Gender, age, and past educational institute were not associated with communication skills learning attitude.Conclusion: This study provides perceptions of newly admitted undergraduate medical students towards communication-skills learning. We suggest the integration of communication-skills curriculum into the undergraduate medical syllabus, with an acceptable, focused, and interesting teaching module.Keywords: communication-skills, medical education, medical students, student’s attitude, undergraduate

This work presents the design and implementation of an Open Storage System plugin for XRootD, utilizing Named Data Networking (NDN). This represents a significant step in integrating NDN, a prominent future Internet architecture, with the established data management systems within CMS. We show that this integration enables XRootD to access data in a location transparent manner, reducing the complexity of data management and retrieval. Our approach includes the creation of the NDNc software library, which bridges the existing NDN C++ library with the high-performance NDN-DPDK data-forwarding system. This paper outlines the design of the plugin and preliminary results of data transfer tests using both internal and external 100 Gbps testbed.

The emergence of plant pathogens is often associated with waves of unique evolutionary and epidemiological events. Xanthomonas hortorum pv. gardneri is one of the major pathogens causing bacterial spot disease of tomatoes. After its first report in the 1950s, there were no formal reports on this pathogen until the 1990s, despite active global research on the pathogens that cause tomato and pepper bacterial spot disease. Given the recently documented global distribution of X. hortorum pv. gardneri , our objective was to examine genomic diversification associated with its emergence. We sequenced the genomes of X. hortorum pv. gardneri strains collected in eight countries to examine global population structure and pathways of emergence using phylodynamic analysis. We found that strains isolated post-1990 group by region of collection and show minimal impact of recombination on genetic variation. A period of rapid geographic expansion in X. hortorum pv. gardneri is associated with acquisition of a large plasmid conferring copper tolerance by horizontal transfer and coincides with the burgeoning hybrid tomato seed industry through the 1980s. The ancestry of X. hortorum pv. gardneri is consistent with introduction to hybrid tomato seed production and dissemination during the rapid increase in trade of hybrid seeds. Background: Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a rare immune-mediated pathology involving inflammatory demyelination of the central nervous system. Case Presentation . In this case report, we present the case of a nine-year-old female who exhibited altered mental status and focal neurological deficit, subsequently diagnosed as ADEM based on clinical presentation and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings. The patient was managed symptomatically along with glucocorticoids., Conclusion: ADEM must be suspected when a patient, especially a child, presents with prodromal symptoms followed by multifocal neurological symptoms. Diagnosis can be established with an MRI brain scan. The Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) has operated high altitude clinics in Nepal for 50 years, with rising visitor numbers, especially from India, China, and Nepal. New roads have eased access and increased the speed of ascent in some areas. Our aim was to provide a description of the activities, clinical problems, and lecture attendees of the HRA aid post in Manang over one season. We also highlight the evolving challenges of providing healthcare and education in the high Himalayan region. We describe the clinical and educational activities of the HRA aid post in Manang from September 24 to December 1, 2023. Prospective clinical data collection included anonymized patient demographics and diagnoses. Lecture data were taken from the attendee register and by daily manual counts of lecture attendees. We saw 376 patients, 62% of whom were Nepalis. Infectious diseases (42%) and altitude illness (16%) were the most common problems. A total of 846 people from 47 countries attended the daily altitude lectures. Only 5% of attendees were Nepali. Electrical supply interruptions and limitations in medical evacuation options were among the challenges of providing care at a high altitude clinic and preventing altitude illness using educational lectures. Altitude illness remains a common and potentially life-threatening problem, with risks increased by rapid ascent enabled by new road access and by ignorance of risks of altitude among travelers, especially Nepalis. Language barriers in educational outreach call for novel approaches and interventions that will ensure the effectiveness of altitude education.
