This study verifies the practicality of using finite element analysis for strain and deformation analysis in regions with sparse GNSS stations. A digital 3D terrain model is constructed using DEM data, and regional rock mass properties are integrated to simulate geological structures, resulting in the development of a 3D geological finite element model (FEM) using the ANSYS Workbench module. Gravity load and thermal constraints are applied to derive directional strain and deformation solutions, and the model results are compared to actual strain and tilt measurements from the Jiujiang Seismic Station (JSS). The results show that temperature variations significantly affect strain and deformation, particularly due to the elevation difference between the mountain base and summit. Higher temperatures increase thermal strain, causing tensile effects, while lower temperatures reduce thermal strain, leading to compressive effects. Strain and deformation patterns are strongly influenced by geological structures, gravity, and topography, with valleys experiencing tensile strain and ridges undergoing compression. The deformation trend indicates a southwestward movement across the study area. A comparison of FEM results with ten years of strain and tiltmeter data from JSS reveals a strong correlation between the model predictions and actual measurements, with correlation coefficients of 0.6 and 0.75 for strain in the NS and EW directions, and 0.8 and 0.9 for deformation in the NS and EW directions, respectively. These findings confirm that the 3D geological FEM is applicable for regional strain and deformation analysis, providing a feasible alternative in areas with limited GNSS monitoring. Transparency in learning and teaching (TILT) has been a growing topic of interest in higher education. This study aimed to examine how a simple TILT manipulation could impact a well-established, popular, interdisciplinary semester-long research symposium that involves scores of undergraduates. TILTing the instructions for this symposium had a significant effect on all three TILT components (i.e., purpose, task, and criteria). Underclassmen benefited equally to upperclassmen in terms of understanding the importance and ways to be successful. Furthermore, although both majors and nonmajors benefited from the TILTed instructions, students studying a course outside their major benefited significantly more than students taking a course within their own program of study. The article presents the design of an adaptive controller, simulation, code generation, and porting of the algorithm into target hardware, movement of the 7.5 m antenna, testing, verification, and validation of theoretical and experimental results of the antenna system. The conventional servo control methods based on PID controllers are being used for tracking X-band missions. As the need for higher data rates is increasing, missions are switching to the Ka band, as a result the satellite ground stations will have to track the satellite in the Ka band where the antenna band beam width is narrowed by a factor of 3 when compared to the X-band antenna beamwidth. These challenges had driven the designer to design and implement a Model Reference Adaptive Controller over PID to improve and achieve the tracking accuracy of less than 25m° from the present 30 m°. Thus, consistent and constant performance is achieved throughout the trajectory tracking of the mission using PID + MRAC (Model Reference Adaptive Control). MRAC uses a reference model that specifies the desired response of the antenna system and adjusts the controller parameters such that the plant follows the reference to achieve the desired performance. The entire drive chain modules and their parameters are considered in the design of the plant, namely MRAC controller, PID controller, Power Drive electronic (Rectifier and Inverter), Servo Motor, mechanical torque coupling, Gear reducer, Slew Ring Bearing (SRB), and absolute encoder modules of each axis for position feedback from the antenna. Model Order Reduction of higher-order actual Plant model to the standard second-order system is optimized. The modelled and analysed outcomes of the MRAC scheme using the Modified MIT are demonstrated. The developed model is tested against step, ramp, parabolic, satellite trajectory, velocity and acceleration inputs in MATLAB/Simulink and validated with practical/ experimental test results with antenna load at the satellite ground Station. Purpose: To compare long-term intraocular lens (IOL) decentration and tilt following femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) and conventional surgery using swept-source anterior segment ocular coherence tomography (SS-ASOCT). Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, all patients underwent FLACS or conventional cataract surgery. Those with a minimum of 12-months follow-up since surgery were included. Patients with surgical complications were excluded. Demographics, preoperative ocular measurements (axial length, anterior chamber depth), and postoperative measurements [corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), autorefraction, keratometry, IOL type] were collected. Postoperative IOL tilt and decentration were compared using SS-ASOCT between patients with FLACS and conventional cataract surgery. Subgroup analysis was conducted to analyze tilt and decentration by haptic type (single-piece vs. three-piece). Results: A total of 188 eyes were included [110 (58.5%) in the FLACS group and 78 (41.5%) in the conventional group]. No differences were observed between the FLACS and conventional groups regarding preoperative parameters. FLACS resulted in less IOL decentration compared to conventional cataract surgery (170 μm vs. 240 μm, p = 0.002). No statistically significant differences were observed between the FLACS and conventional groups in the magnitude and axis of IOL tilt. Both groups had a trend of IOL tilt toward the inferotemporal aspects. Moreover, no difference regarding postoperative CDVA, spherical equivalent, and keratometric astigmatism was observed. Conclusions: FLACS resulted in significantly better long-term IOL centration than conventional surgery with manual capsulotomy. In this study, we explored the impact of tilted designs of anthropomorphic app icons on users' perceptions of icon vividness across three experiments. In Experiment 1, tilting with an angle of 45° to the left increased perceived icon vividness. In Experiment 2, sequential icon tilt angles at 30° intervals manipulation showed that small tilt angles (e.g., 30° to the left or right) enhanced participant perceptions of dynamism and vividness, and participants perceived greater vividness in anthropomorphic app icons with slight tilting, driven by this increased dynamism. In Experiment 3, we excluded the effect of the completeness of icons on these participants' evaluations and affirmed that slightly tilting designs was an effective visual strategy for improving perceived vividness to attract users. Purpose: To evaluate and compare the effect of decentration and tilt on the optical quality of monofocal and trifocal intraocular lenses (IOL). Methods: Optical quality of a monofocal IOL (AcrySof IQ SN60WF; Alcon Laboratories, Inc., USA) and a trifocal IOL (AcrySof IQ PanOptix; Alcon Laboratories, Inc., USA) was assessed using an in vitro optical bench (OptiSpheric IOL R&D; Trioptics GmbH, Germany). At apertures of 3.0 mm and 4.5 mm, modulation transfer function (MTF) at spatial frequency of 50 lp/mm, MTF curve and the United States Air Force (USAF) resolution test chart of the two IOLs were measured and compared at their focus with different degrees of decentration and tilt. Optical quality at infinity, 60 cm and 40 cm and the through-focus MTF curves were compared when the two IOLs were centered at apertures of 3.0 mm and 4.5 mm. Spectral transmittance of the two IOLs was measured by the UV–visible spectrophotometer (UV 3300 PC; MAPADA, China). Results: The SN60WF and the PanOptix filtered blue light from 400 to 500 nm. Both IOLs at the far focus and the PanOptix at the intermediate focus showed a decrease in optical quality with increasing decentration and tilt. The PanOptix demonstrated enhanced optical quality compared to the previous gradient at the near focus at a decentration range of 0.3–0.7 mm with a 3.0 mm aperture, and 0.5 mm with a 4.5 mm aperture, whereas other conditions exhibited diminished optical quality with increasing decentration and tilt at the focus of both IOLs. When the two IOLs were centered, the SN60WF had better optical quality at infinity, while the PanOptix had better optical quality at 60 cm and 40 cm defocus. The optical quality of the SN60WF exceeded that of the PanOptix at far focus, with a 3 mm aperture decentration up to 0.7 mm and a 4.5 mm aperture decentration up to 0.3 mm; this observation held true for all tilts, irrespective of aperture size. As both decentration and tilt increased, the optical quality of the SN60WF deteriorated more rapidly than that of the PanOptix at the far focal point. Conclusions: The SN60WF showed a decrease in optical quality with increasing decentration and tilt. Optical quality of the PanOptix at the near focus increased in some decentration conditions and decreased in some conditions, while it showed a decrease at the other focuses with increasing decentration. While tilt only had a negative effect on optical quality. When both IOLs were centered, the PanOptix provided a wider range of vision, while the SN60WF provided better far distance vision. The detection of defects can be seriously affected by lift-off and tilt effects, which represents significant challenges for eddy current testing (ECT). In this paper, an innovative eddy current sensor with E-core ferrite is proposed to overcome these challenges. The sensor comprises two excitation coils, one receiving coil, and an E-shaped ferrite core. The excitation coils and receiving coil are wound on two sides and the middle of the E-core, respectively. Specially, the two excitation coils are wound in opposite directions, resulting in magnetic field cancellation in the middle receiving coil when there is no defect in the plate. All the design principle, simulation, and experimental verification demonstrate the feasibility and excellent performance of the proposed sensor. Moreover, the proposed sensor can assess the depth of defects and achieve defect localisation based on the proposed measurement method. The results indicate that the defect depth can be accurately classified and identified based on the measured signal amplitude. The localisation of defects on aluminium sheets shows excellent results for depths ranging from 0.6 mm to 2.0 mm. However, for stainless-steel sheets, the defect localisation results show an unexpected error rate of over 15% when the defect depth is less than 1.1 mm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article addresses the important problem of tilt measurement and stabilization. This is particularly important in the case of drone stabilization and navigation in underwater environments, multibeam sonar mapping, aerial photogrammetry in densely urbanized areas, etc. The tilt measurement process involves the fusion of information from at least two different sensors. Inertial sensors (IMUs) are unique in this context because they are both autonomous and passive at the same time and are therefore very attractive. Their calibration and systematic errors or bias are known problems, briefly discussed in the article due to their importance, and are relatively simple to solve. However, problems related to the accumulation of these errors over time and their autonomous and dynamic correction remain. This article proposes a solution to the problem of IMU tilt calibration, i.e., the pitch and roll and the accelerometer bias correction in dynamic conditions, and presents the process of calculating these parameters based on combined accelerometer and gyroscope records using a new approach based on measuring increments or differences in tilt measurement. Verification was performed by simulation under typical conditions and for many different inertial units, i.e., IMU devices, which brings the proposed method closer to the real application context. In order to study the flow characteristics of an integrated natural circulation reactor under inclined conditions, a typical three-dimensional analysis model of natural circulation was established. The natural circulation under inclined conditions was numerically simulated using the computational fluid dynamics method, and the velocity and temperature distribution characteristics of heat exchangers and mixed-flow channels with different inclined angles were analyzed. The results show that as the inclination angle of the heat exchanger flow rate increases, there is a spatial migration phenomenon corresponding to the direction of the average flow rate. A large inclination angle will lead to a serious deterioration of the natural circulation capacity in the lower channel. Studied area is located in Kerman province, Iran. This area belongs to the Urumia-Dokhtar magmatic arc (UDMA) zone. Several porphyry copper deposits were known in this magmatic arc. UDMA is marked by voluminous Tertiary volcanic sequences of up to 3000 m thickness. It seemed that these Cu occurrences are related to structures, especially major and main faults. In this study, magnetic structures were extracted by using the aeromagnetic data. This data was extracted by Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) during 1977 and 1978. The flight lines distance and the sensor altitude were about 500 and 120 m, respectively. Airborne magnetic method is among the most efficient geophysical techniques for the detection of buried anomalies. In the first step, total magnetic intensity map was prepared and reduction to pole transformation was done on it. Reduction to the pole (RTP) is a standard part of magnetic data processing method, especially for large-scale mapping. RTP operation can transform a magnetic anomaly caused by an arbitrary source into the anomaly that the same source would produce if it is located at the pole and magnetized by induction only. Interpretation of magnetic data can further be helped by RTP in order to remove the influence of magnetic latitude on the anomalies, which is significant for anomalies caused by crust. Most of the studied areas are covered by mafic volcanic rocks. These rocks produce moderate to high magnetic anomalies. In some parts, the effect of demagnetization can be observed in these rocks because of the spread of alteration in this area. A low magnetic anomaly is observed in the northern part of the studied area related to sedimentary rocks in this area. In the next step, body magnetic anomalies were extracted from reduction to pole map. A tilt angle filter used to extract magnetic lineaments was applied to the reduction to pole data. Upward continuation filter was implemented at 200 m, 500 m and 1000 m on the tilt angle map and magnetic lineaments were extracted from tilt angle maps. Several magnetic lineaments and magnetic bodies were extracted from magnetic maps (tilt angle maps and reduction to pole maps). Avoiding superior tilt of the glenoid baseplate is essential in reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relevance of a new measure, the modified RSA (mRSA) angle, which accounts for the size of the chosen baseplate in a given patient's glenoid fossa. We simulated placement of 3 baseplate sizes in 20 shoulders. Measurements included the RSA angle, mRSA angle, β/total shoulder arthroplasty angle, glenoid height, and the percentage of the fossa occupied by the chosen implant. The mean difference between RSA and mRSA angles was 4° (P <.001), ranging from −6° to 15°. Smaller baseplates in larger glenoid fossae had the highest mRSA angles and were thus at the most risk of implantation in superior inclination. The amount of the fossa occupied by the implant was strongly correlated with the difference between RSA and mRSA angles (R = 0.729, P <.001). The mRSA angle accounts for inclination of a chosen glenoid implant in a specific patient's glenoid fossa. Smaller baseplates in larger patients that occupy less of the glenoid fossa sit on the most inclined part of the glenoid and are at greatest risk of residual superior inclination of the final implant. Pressure and tilt data are jointly inverted to simultaneously map the orientation and dimensions of a hydraulic fracture. The deformation induced by a fracture under internal pressure is modeled using the distributed dislocation technique. The planar fracture is represented by four quarter ellipses, joined at the center and sharing semi-axes. This configuration provides a straightforward model for characterizing asymmetric fracture geometry. The inverse problem of mapping the fracture geometry is formulated using the Bayesian probabilistic method, combining the a priori information on the fracture model with updated information from pressure and tilt data. Solving the nonlinear inverse problem is achieved by pseudo-randomly sampling the posterior probability distribution through the Markov chain Monte Carlo method. The resulting posterior probability distribution is then explored to assess uncertainty, resolution, and correlation between model parameters. Numerical experiments are conducted to verify the accuracy and validity of the proposed analysis method in mapping the fracture geometry using synthetic pressure and tilt data. The R-2 rotary seismograph can record rotating three components, MEMS acceleration, and tilt angle. In this study, the difference between ground acceleration and tilted background noise were analyzed using two phases of continuous observation data implemented in the ground and deep underground of the Huainan Deep Earth Laboratory. It was found that the deep earth environmental background interference was weaker, with background noise differences on the spectrum of up to 10 dB, showing that the Deep Earth Laboratory has superior conditions regarding low vibration and noise. The contrast before and after the skew correction of the MEMS acceleration using the tilt data revealed that the tilt had a non-negligible influence. The time-frequency analysis showed that the deep earth environment was favorable relative to the surface environment. The precision requirements of solid tide signal observations and shortcomings of existing instruments were also analyzed, proving the necessity of high precision observations in the deep earth environment.

The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of shading to evaluate the performance ratio (PR) of a solar power system. In order to accomplish the objective of this study, the PVsyst software was utilized to assess the impact of shading, generate an energy input/output loss diagram and determine the PR during the entire year. This work only considers shading effect due to the position of a building and the location of the PV site. The suggested method also evaluates the financial analysis of the proposed PV system, specifically focusing on the payback period (PBP) and return on investment (ROI). Two types of perspective design of the PV position for the values of tilt and azimuth have been evaluated. The value of tilt and azimuth were 15o and 0° for design-1 and design-2 with different perspective, such as North building and South building for design-1 and design-2, respectively. The result of optimization illustrated that the PR yearly levels for Designs-1 and 2, were 0.821 and 0.759, respectively. In addition, the financial analysis investigated to examine PBP and ROI, were 8.1 years with 140.5 % return rate; 8.7 years with 110 % return rate, respectively. The proposed method has been simulated and analysed for applied on the rooftop of Teaching Industrial Learning Centre building, the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta-Indonesia.

Background: Establishing a surgical plan for ankle deformities necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the deforming forces involved, and the morphology of the ankle deformity plays an important role as well. Valgus tibiotalar tilt development has mostly been described in patients with a low medial longitudinal arch, as seen in progressive collapsing foot deformity (PCFD). However, some valgus ankles demonstrate no radiographic evidence of a collapsed medial arch. This study aims to investigate whether there are differences in the radiographic morphology of valgus ankle deformities between patients with and without a low medial longitudinal arch to explore if they have different etiologies. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent surgical treatment for asymmetric valgus ankle deformity at our institution between 2017 and 2021. Patients with a valgus tibiotalar tilt (TT) greater than 4 degrees and Meary angle greater than 30 degrees (mean: 38.9) were included in the PCFD group (n = 29). The non-PCFD group (n = 24) with TT greater than 4 degrees and Meary angle less than 4 degrees (mean: 0.3) was also established. In the weightbearing ankle anteroposterior view, the TT and medial distal tibial angle were measured. Additionally, to assess the mediolateral position of the talus, the talar center migration (TCM) and lateral talar dome–plafond distance (LTD-P) ratio in the coronal plane were measured. In weightbearing computed tomography (WBCT), the degree of axial plane talocalcaneal subluxation and the prevalence of sinus tarsi bony impingement were assessed. Intergroup comparison was conducted. Results: Both groups demonstrated a similar degree of TT, with a mean of 11.6 degrees in the PCFD group and 13.7 degrees in the non-PCFD group (P =.2330). However, the PCFD group showed a significantly greater TCM and LTD-P ratio compared with those of the non-PCFD group (P <.0001), indicating that PCFD patients have a more medially translated talus in ankle anteroposterior radiographs. WBCT showed that the PCFD group on average had 18 degrees greater axial plane talocalcaneal subluxation (P <.0001) and 52% higher prevalence of sinus tarsi bony impingement (P =.0002) compared with the non-PCFD group. Conclusion: This study suggests that valgus ankles may exhibit different radiographic morphologies depending on the status of the longitudinal arch. Valgus ankles in PCFD patients tend to have a more medially translated talus. This finding may suggest the presence of different deforming forces between the 2 groups and may indicate the need for different treatment strategies to address talar tilt. We investigated the magma conduit system beneath three active craters that have repeatedly generated Vulcanian eruptions at Sakurajima Volcano, Japan, by analysing seismic, infrasound, and tilt data. The hypocentres of the earthquakes associated with the Vulcanian eruptions are distributed separately at shallow depths of approximately 0.5 km beneath the craters. Infrasound indicated that the swelling of the crater floor starts approximately 0.2 s after the occurrence of earthquakes and that the eruption starts about 0.3 to 0.5 s later. During an eruption, tilt vectors at a station approximately 2.7 km far from the active craters indicated a deflationary trend directed toward one of the three active craters. A 1-D conduit flow simulation indicated pressure build-up at a depth of 0.4–1.0 km beneath the crater, consistent with previously reported pressure sources during eruptions detected by geodesy. Volcanic lapilli emitted from the three craters have the same chemical composition; hence, Vulcanian eruptions of all three studied craters originate from a common magma source. Background: We sought to replicate our 2015 findings linking chemical intolerance in parents with the risk of their children developing autism and/or ADHD. Drawing upon our 2021 discovery of a strong association between chemical intolerance and mast cells, we propose an explanation for this link. Methods: In a population-based survey of U.S. adults, we used the internationally validated Quick Environmental Exposure and Sensitivity Inventory (QEESI) to assess symptom severity and chemical intolerance. Parents were asked how many of their biological children had been diagnosed with autism and/or ADHD. Results: Parents with chemical intolerance scores in the top versus bottom tenth percentile had 5.7 times the risk of reporting a child with autism and 2.1 times for ADHD. Conclusions: High chemical intolerance scores among parents of children with autism, coupled with our 2021 discovery of mast cell activation as a plausible biomechanism for chemical intolerance, suggest that (1) the QEESI can identify individuals at increased risk, (2) environmental counseling may reduce personal exposures and risk, and (3) the global rise in autism and ADHD may be due to fossil-fuel-derived and biogenic toxicants epigenetically "turning on" or "turning off" critical mast cell genes that can be transmitted transgenerationally. It is important to note that this study was observational in nature; as such, further research is needed using controlled trials to confirm causality and explore the proposed mechanism. Abstract In this study, geodetic and seismic phenomena occurring in the subduction zone were observed with two tiltmeters that were installed in seafloor boreholes drilled in the Kumano Basin in the Nankai Trough, southwest Japan. We used one electrolytic-type tiltmeter and one pendulum-type tiltmeter installed 6 and 19 m below the seafloor, respectively. The two tiltmeters have been continuously operated since 2019 and 2021, respectively. The records of the two tiltmeters showed microseisms, seismic signals of normal earthquakes, and variations that correlated well with the M2 tide (tidal response). The noise environment relative to existing seafloor observatories was assessed by comparing the power spectral densities of the tiltmeters and broadband seismometers in the seismic frequency band. The two tiltmeters and the seismometers showed similar spectral peaks in the microseism band, and at lower frequencies below 10–2 Hz, the pendulum tiltmeter had a noise level that was up to 20 dB lower than that of the broadband seismometers. The tidal responses of the tiltmeters were analyzed to reveal corresponding mechanisms because a large amplitude of the tidal response makes it difficult to detect geodetic phenomena. Considerable azimuthal dependence was observed in the NW–SE direction for both tiltmeters. The principal direction was approximately the same as the down-slope direction of the local bathymetry. This tendency was thus interpreted to be caused by the differences in the thickness of the sedimentary layer along the direction of the slope. Furthermore, the validity of the tilt measurements for the two tiltmeters was demonstrated by in-situ loading experiments, where the theoretical response of an elastic half-space medium was computed and compared with the experimental results. This study verifies the practicality of using finite element analysis for strain and deformation analysis in regions with sparse GNSS stations. A digital 3D terrain model is constructed using DEM data, and regional rock mass properties are integrated to simulate geological structures, resulting in the development of a 3D geological finite element model (FEM) using the ANSYS Workbench module. Gravity load and thermal constraints are applied to derive directional strain and deformation solutions, and the model results are compared to actual strain and tilt measurements from the Jiujiang Seismic Station (JSS). The results show that temperature variations significantly affect strain and deformation, particularly due to the elevation difference between the mountain base and summit. Higher temperatures increase thermal strain, causing tensile effects, while lower temperatures reduce thermal strain, leading to compressive effects. Strain and deformation patterns are strongly influenced by geological structures, gravity, and topography, with valleys experiencing tensile strain and ridges undergoing compression. The deformation trend indicates a southwestward movement across the study area. A comparison of FEM results with ten years of strain and tiltmeter data from JSS reveals a strong correlation between the model predictions and actual measurements, with correlation coefficients of 0.6 and 0.75 for strain in the NS and EW directions, and 0.8 and 0.9 for deformation in the NS and EW directions, respectively. These findings confirm that the 3D geological FEM is applicable for regional strain and deformation analysis, providing a feasible alternative in areas with limited GNSS monitoring. This method provides valuable insights into crustal deformation in regions with sparse strain and deformation measurement data.

INTRODUCTION The main purpose of tilt table testing (TTT) is to determine the underlying cause of orthostatic intolerance, near-fainting episodes, and unexplained syncope. The aim of present study is to measure table tilt using trigonometry and electronic medium. MATERIAL AND METHODS The present prospective study was done among 25 patients undergoing pelvic surgery at tertiary care centre during the study period of one year. Inclinometer, bubble app and mathematical formula were used to measure the tilt. Results were analyzed using SPSS version 25.0. RESULTS The mean age of patients in our study was 37.8±5.9 years. The Mean ± SD angle measured by three methods were 13.1±2.8 degree by inclinometer, 13.2±2.6 degree by bubble app and 13.1±2.6 degree by mathematical formula and results were significant with p value .000. Purpose: This study aimed to observe the tilt and decentration of multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) with optic capture in Berger space within 2 years after pediatric cataract surgery. Methods: This is a prospective observational study. The implantation of multifocal IOL (Tecnis ZMB00) with optic capture in Berger space was performed on 33 patients (48 eyes) with pediatric cataract at Qingdao Eye Hospital. Tilt and decentration of IOL was measured using Scheimpflug system (Pentacam) at 1 month and 2 years postoperatively. Results: All the multifocal IOLs were successfully implanted in Berger space with optic capture and no visually significant complications were detected during the follow-up. The mean tilt of IOLs was 2.779° ± 0.950° in the vertical plane and 2.399° ± 0.898° in the horizontal plane at 1 month postoperatively, and the mean length of the decentration was 0.207 ± 0.081 mm in vertical plane and 0.211 ± 0.090 mm in the horizontal plane. Compared with 1 month after surgery, the angle of tilt decreased by a mean of 0.192° and decentration increased by a mean of 0.014 mm at the vertical meridian at 2 years postoperatively (P = 0.37 and P = 0.27, respectively), meanwhile, tilt increased by 0.265° and decentration increased by 0.012 mm at the horizontal meridian (P = 0.11 and P = 0.22, respectively). Conclusions: The follow-up results suggest the tilt and decentration of multifocal IOL implantation with optic capture in Berger space remain stable in an acceptable range within 2 years after cataract surgery in children above the age of 5. South-facing collectors are the optimum choice for solar applications in the northern hemisphere. However, obstacles may limit the feasibility of this orientation. Therefore, altering the orientation of the collector impacts solar insolation. In this study, the Perez model is utilized to evaluate incoming solar radiation on tilted surfaces for solar collectors in four climatic zones across Pakistan. The results are presented in contour plots to analyze the optimal tilt and orientation for solar applications. The findings of the study indicate substantial energy gains when collectors are placed at optimum angles. More specifically, Quetta leads with a 14.54% increase, followed by Karachi and Multan at 9.81% and 9.3%, respectively, compared to horizontally placed collectors. Analysis of vertical surfaces reveals a notable decrease in monthly solar radiation, especially in Peshawar (37.22%). Monthly adjustments in tilt angles outperform fixed positions, enhancing solar energy intensity. When comparing yearly adjustments with monthly adjustments, Quetta shows the maximum increase of 5.92%, followed by Karachi (4.86%), Multan (4.01%), and Peshawar (3.65%). It is also observed that ±15° azimuth angle change from the south ensures receiving up to 98% of insolation, regardless of the climatic region. Lastly, the validation against the NASA SSE database further highlights the reliability of our simulation model. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of primary posterior continuous curvilinear capsulorrhexis (PPCCC) on the positional stability of IOLs. Methods: This study is a prospective intra-individual comparative randomized controlled trial including 31 patients (62 eyes). Eyes of the same patient were randomly assigned to the PPCCC group (18 right eyes and 13 left eyes) or group without PPCCC (NPCCC group). Eyes in both groups were implanted with a one-piece foldable hydrophobic acrylic IOL via routine cataract surgery. Patients in the PPCCC group underwent additional manual PPCCC before IOL implantation. Examinations were performed 1 day, 1 week, 1 month and 3 months postoperatively. IOL tilt (x, y), decentration (x, y), anterior chamber depth (z) and refractive prediction error data were collected and analyzed with Pentacam. Results: Postoperatively, the range of IOL position change over 3 months in PPCCC group was comparable to NPCCC group, which indicated smaller value in every tilt and decentration index. PPCCC eyes showed comparable tilt and decentration with NPCCC eyes in this study endpoint: mean tilt (x, y), decentration (x, y) and anterior chamber depth (ACD) were 1.04 ± 0.56°, 0.90 ± 0.64°, 0.239 ± 0.140 mm, 0.233 ± 0.133 mm and 4.01 ± 0.32 mm, respectively, in the PPCCC group vs. 1.09 ± 0.76°, 1.10 ± 0.82°, 0.252 ± 0.153 mm, 0.244 ± 0.155 mm and 4.01 ± 0.38 mm, respectively, in the NPCCC group. Refractive prediction error in the PPCCC group demonstrated a mild hyperopic shift vs. the NPCCC group (0.13 ± 0.50 vs. 0.05 ± 0.39; p = 0.208), and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) did not differ between the two groups (0.027 ± 0.014 vs. 0.059 ± 0.185; p = 0.377). Conclusions: Comparable IOL tilt, decentration, ACD and refractive prediction error were observed in PPCCC eyes with that underwent routine cataract surgery. Little IOL position fluctuation and good visual acuity were shown in PPCCC group over time. Tilt is a state of frustration leading to poor performance in poker players, but despite widespread adoption of the term in the gaming community, nascent esports (electronic sports) research has yet to establish a definition of tilt. The rapid growth of the esports industry has sparked demand for research that expands knowledge on psychological factors in gaming, especially the application of performance-oriented improvements for competitive gamers. Our qualitative approach explored the construct of tilt and how it manifests in esports, including generating the first clear definition of tilt as it applies to this context. Thematic analysis of interviews with six industry experts defined tilt as a state of indignation and frustration resulting in inhibited decision-making, as well as identifying several esports-specific contexts that trigger or mitigate tilt. Themes diverge noticeably from the problem gambling contexts in which tilt definitions originated, answering the recent call for more context-specific athlete-orientated research. Our findings provide the first definition of tilt bespoke to esports and marks an important conceptual foundation for this emerging research area. The definition will also inform evidence-based practice as coaches and psychologists search for new ways to improve athlete performance in the highly competitive world of esports.

The Alexander Column as a compositional center of the architectural ensemble of Palace Square in Saint Petersburg, Russia, has always been a matter of concern for both the public and specialists due to progressive deterioration of its granite shaft caused by crack formation. The article examines previous studies related to the inspection and restoration of the column's shaft and other parts above ground level, as well as reasons for crack initiation and propagation in the column. An analysis was performed on the anomalies in the Fennoscandian Shield and the structural-tectonic conditions at the Montferrand quarry site, revealing the presence of faults and circular features within the studied area. The research considers N.Hast's measurements of excess tectonic stresses in anomaly zones (southeastern Finland), which acted horizontally and resulted in the development of tensile cracks within the granite massif and later in the column’s shaft after its installation. The most dangerous type of deformation for the Alexander Column is its tilt in the northeast direction, recorded in 1937 and 2000. The article analyzes the construction features of the column's foundations and additional underground elements, as well as soil and groundwater characteristics based on archival data. The contamination history of the underground space is taken into account, and an analogy-based method is used to assess the engineering-geological and hydrogeological conditions of the underground load-bearing structures within the placement zone of the Alexander Column and the New Hermitage buildings. The results of visual observations on the nature of deterioration and deformation of the pavement around the monument, as well as its pedestal, indicating the development of uneven settlement of the foundation, are presented. The article concludes with general recommendations for organizing and implementing comprehensive monitoring to forecast the deformation dynamics of the Alexander Column.

Abstract Background Manual wheelchair propulsion is widely accepted to be biomechanically inefficient, with a high prevalence of shoulder pain and injuries among users. Directional control during wheelchair movement is a major, yet largely overlooked source of energy loss: changing direction or maintaining straightforward motion on tilted surfaces requires unilateral braking. This study evaluates the efficiency of a novel steering-by-leaning mechanism that guides wheelchair turning through upper body leaning. Methods 16 full-time wheelchair users and 15 able-bodied novices each completed 12 circuits of an adapted Illinois Agility Test-course that included tilted, straight, slalom, and 180° turning sections in a prototype wheelchair at a self-selected functional speed. Trials were alternated between conventional and steering-by-leaning modes while propulsion forces were recorded via instrumented wheelchair wheels. Time to completion, travelled distance, positive/negative power, and work done, were all calculated to allow comparison of the control modes using repeated measures analysis of variance. Results Substantial average energy reductions of 51% (able-bodied group) and 35% (wheelchair user group) to complete the task were observed when using the steering-by-leaning system. Simultaneously, able-bodied subjects were approximately 23% faster whereby completion times did not differ for wheelchair users. Participants in both groups wheeled some 10% further with the novel system. Differences were most pronounced during turning and on tilted surfaces where the steering-by-leaning system removed the need for braking for directional control. Conclusions Backrest-actuated steering systems on manual wheelchairs can make a meaningful contribution towards reducing shoulder usage while contributing to independent living. Optimisation of propulsion techniques could further improve functional outcomes.

Abstract We infer the temporal changes in the pressure sources that induced crustal deformation during the 2018 Shinmoe-dake eruption using strain and tilt observations and discern that the deep magmatic activity associated with the early stage of this eruption began approximately 19 h earlier than the previously defined onset of magmatic activity. Distinct tilt changes were observed from around 09:00 on 6 March to 12:00 on 8 March 2018 (JST), coincident with observed lava outflow into the crater and lava dome formation. Existing studies have attributed this tilt change to the onset of the deflation of a spherical pressure source located at ~ 7 km bsl (below sea level) to the northwest of Shinmoe-dake. Here we examine strain and tilt data that were acquired in the Kirishima volcanic group, and we find that the distinct changes in the measured strain at Isa-Yoshimatsu Observatory began at around 14:00 on 5 March. This change can be explained by the deflation of a spherical pressure source, thereby suggesting that the onset of magma ascent was earlier than previously thought. The time variation in the spherical pressure source is estimated using the time-dependent inversion of the Ensemble Kalman Filter; the deflation source ascended from ~ 11 to 7 km bsl during Phase 1 (14:00 on 5 March to 06:00 on 6 March) and descended from 7 to 8 km bsl during Phase 2 (06:00 on 6 March to 12:00 on 8 March). Interferometric synthetic aperture radar analysis suggests that a dike intrusion had occurred just below Shinmoe-dake crater until 5 March, and this inflatable crustal deformation is attributed to the emplacement of residual volcanic fluids from the 2011 eruption. It is also known that the surface eruptive activity increased during Phase 1, including an increase in ash venting from the night of 5 March. These strain and tilt observations, therefore, suggest that magma ascended from ~ 11 km bsl to the magma reservoir at 7 km bsl during Phase 1, followed by a deflation of the magma reservoir during Phase 2 due to the large magma supply to the surface. This article addresses the important problem of tilt measurement and stabilization. This is particularly important in the case of drone stabilization and navigation in underwater environments, multibeam sonar mapping, aerial photogrammetry in densely urbanized areas, etc. The tilt measurement process involves the fusion of information from at least two different sensors. Inertial sensors (IMUs) are unique in this context because they are both autonomous and passive at the same time and are therefore very attractive. Their calibration and systematic errors or bias are known problems, briefly discussed in the article due to their importance, and are relatively simple to solve. However, problems related to the accumulation of these errors over time and their autonomous and dynamic correction remain. This article proposes a solution to the problem of IMU tilt calibration, i.e., the pitch and roll and the accelerometer bias correction in dynamic conditions, and presents the process of calculating these parameters based on combined accelerometer and gyroscope records using a new approach based on measuring increments or differences in tilt measurement. Verification was performed by simulation under typical conditions and for many different inertial units, i.e., IMU devices, which brings the proposed method closer to the real application context. The article also addresses, to some extent, the issue of navigation, especially in the context of dead reckoning.

Hybrid offshore platforms are complex structures that need to tolerate cyclic loads. These loads occur when the turbine is working between cut-in and cut-out speeds and depend on the turbine's rotational speeds. However, selecting a proper soil for the structure to be secured in is very important for the stability of the hybrid system. This study aimed to calculate the displacement of an integrated offshore structure capable of supporting a hybrid assembly of one wind plus two tidal turbines under cyclic loads. The monopile has been found to be a suitable foundation type, as the most inexpensive solution in water depths less than 30 meters, for integrating both types of turbines. The deflection of the structure was compared for different types of soil with finite element analysis. Several simulations were conducted using OPTUM G3 software for calculating the stability of each type of soil in the rotational speed range of turbines. The results enable determining the amount of deflection for each soil type. The displacement range for soft clay is 0.0052 to 0.0098 m, and displacement is between 0.007 and 0.0158 m for medium sand. The minimum displacement of firm clay, which is 0.0115 meters at 5 rpm, is higher than all minima of other soil types. Thus, soft clay and medium sand show more stability, and firm clay is less stable in the rotational speed range of the turbines.

AIM: To evaluate the effect of anterior capsule polishing on visual quality after phacoemulsification.METHODS: Prospective randomized control study. A total of 65 patients(73 eyes)with age-related cataract who underwent phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens(IOL)implantation in the Emergency General Hospital between November 2021 and June 2022 were included. These patients were randomly assigned to two groups, with one group(anterior polishing group)underwent anterior and posterior capsule polishing(30 cases, 35 eyes), while the other(control group)receive routine posterior capsule polishing(35 cases, 38 eyes). Best corrected visual acuity was observed at 1wk, 1, 3 and 6mo after operation. Area of anterior capsule orifice was measured at 3 and 6mo after operation. Meanwhile, posterior capsular opacification(P score), IOL tilt and decentration were recorded by Pentacam Scheimpflug system. In addition, wavefront aberration, Strehl ratio(SR)of point spread function(PSF)and modulation transfer function(MTF)were evaluated by OPD-Scan Ⅲ.RESULTS: At 1wk, 1, 3 and 6mo after operation, best corrected visual acuity in anterior polishing group is significantly better than that of control group(P0.05). Abstract Background To compare the outcomes of sutured transscleral fixation and sutureless intrascleral fixation for the treatment of a dislocated intraocular lens (IOL). Methods Thirty-five eyes of 35 patients who required IOL repositioning surgery due to IOL dislocation were included in this retrospective study. Sixteen eyes underwent two-point sutured transscleral fixation, eight eyes underwent one-point sutured transscleral fixation, and 11 eyes underwent sutureless intrascleral IOL fixation. The patients were followed for ≥ 12 months after repositioning surgery, and their postoperative outcomes were recorded and analyzed. Results The major cause of IOL dislocation was ocular blunt trauma (19/35, 54.3%). The mean corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) improved significantly after IOL repositioning (P = 0.022). The mean postoperative change in endothelial cell density (ECD) was − 4.5%. There were no significant differences in the changes in CDVA or ECD among the three groups with different repositioning techniques (both P > 0.1). The mean vertical tilt of the IOLs in all enrolled patients was significantly greater than the horizontal value (P = 0.001). The vertical tilt was greater in the two-point scleral fixation group than that in the sutureless intrascleral fixation group (P = 0.048). Background: Two surgical techniques were compared : Standard BIO-RSA, performed with a glenoid eccentric reaming along with a cylindric bone graft augmentation vs. the Angled BIO-RSA, performed with a glenoid concentric reaming and a defect correction with an angled bone graft. Methods: Patients undergoing RSA from January 2016 to April 2019, with one of the two techniques being performed, were retrospectively reviewed. Glenoids were classified according to Favard. Clinical (Constant-Murley, VAS and ROM) and radiographic (superior tilt correction) data were collected pre-operatively and at 12 months post-operatively. Results: 141 shoulders were included. Angled BIO-RSA group showed statistically significant better outcomes in terms of forward flexion (149.9° Vs 139.3°) and abduction (136.4° Vs 126.7°). The use of an Angled BIO-RSA showed a statistically significant better superior tilt correction (1.252° Vs 4.09°). Angled BIO-RSA, leads to a better inclination correction and a mean postoperative tilt value inferior to 5° in E1 and E3 differently from standard BIO-RSA. Discussion: Both techniques were able to correct glenoid superior inclination with excellent postoperative short-term results. However, angled BIO-RSA technique appears to be more effective in ensuring a correct inclination of the prosthetic glenoid component with better clinical outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lens dislocation is a significant complication after cataract surgery. Scleral fixation of 3-piece intraocular lens provides favorable visual outcome and can spare patients the need for lens exchange. Two patients presented with dislocated 3-piece lenses implanted over 10 years earlier. Both patients underwent pars plana vitrectomy and dropped lens rescue with scleral fixation. Postoperatively, the lens optic was found flipped nearly 90° at the optic-haptic junctions secondary to fluid-air exchange performed during vitrectomy. Both patients underwent intraocular lens exchange with a four point sclera fixated lens. Our study found that air tamponade is better avoided during rescue of old dislocated 3-piece lens implants. Intraocular lens exchange is preferred, when possible, to avoid complications associated with old dislocated lenses. Distinct tilt changes were observed from around 09:00 on 6 March to 12:00 on 8 March 2018 (JST), coincident with observed lava outflow into the crater and lava dome formation. Existing studies have attributed this tilt change to the onset of the deflation of a spherical pressure source located at ~ 7 km bsl (below sea level) to the northwest of Shinmoe-dake. Here we examine strain and tilt data that were acquired in the Kirishima volcanic group, and we find that the distinct changes in the measured strain at Isa-Yoshimatsu Observatory began at around 14:00 on 5 March. This change can be explained by the deflation of a spherical pressure source, thereby suggesting that the onset of magma ascent was earlier than previously thought. The time variation in the spherical pressure source is estimated using the time-dependent inversion of the Ensemble Kalman Filter; the deflation source ascended from ~ 11 to 7 km bsl during Phase 1 (14:00 on 5 March to 06:00 on 6 March) and descended from 7 to 8 km bsl during Phase 2 (06:00 on 6 March to 12:00 on 8 March). Interferometric synthetic aperture radar analysis suggests that a dike intrusion had occurred just below Shinmoe-dake crater until 5 March, and this inflatable crustal deformation is attributed to the emplacement of residual volcanic fluids from the 2011 eruption. It is also known that the surface eruptive activity increased during Phase 1, including an increase in ash venting from the night of 5 March. These strain and tilt observations, therefore, suggest that magma ascended from ~ 11 km bsl to the magma reservoir at 7 km bsl during Phase 1, followed by a deflation of the magma reservoir during Phase 2 due to the large magma supply to the surface.
