Influence of the self-phase modulation of quantum light on the induced resonant excitation of a semiconductor quantum dot is studied analytically in the case of the Kerr-nonlinearity of the medium. The phase nonlinearity is found to result actually in a resonance detuning specific for each field photon number state. This effect is shown to provide significant decrease of the excitation efficiency accompanied at the same time by more regular excitation dynamics obtained even for initial squeezed vacuum field state. The enhancement of entanglement between semiconductor and field subsystems with growing non-linearity is demonstrated. As a result, the formation of different types of non-Gaussian field states is found with features being analyzed in details.

The interaction between quantum light and matter is being intensively studied for systems that are enclosed in high-$Q$ cavities which strongly enhance the light-matter coupling. However, for many applications, cavities with lower $Q$-factors are preferred due to the increased spectral width of the cavity mode. Here, we investigate the interaction between quantum light and matter represented by a $\Lambda$-type three-level system in lossy cavities, assuming that cavity losses are the dominant loss mechanism. We demonstrate that cavity losses lead to non-trivial steady states of the electronic occupations that can be controlled by the loss rate and the initial statistics of the quantum fields. The mechanism of formation of such steady states can be understood on the basis of the equations of motion. Analytical expressions for steady states and their numerical simulations are presented and discussed.

Phase-sensitive optical parametric amplification of squeezed states helps to overcome detection loss and noise and thus increase the robustness of sub-shot-noise sensing. Because such techniques, e.g., imaging and spectroscopy, operate with multimode light, multimode amplification is required. Here we find the optimal methods for multimode phase-sensitive amplification and verify them in an experiment where a pumped second-order nonlinear crystal is seeded with a Gaussian coherent beam. Phase-sensitive amplification is obtained by tightly focusing the seed into the crystal, rather than seeding with close-to-plane waves. This suggests that phase-sensitive amplification of sub-shot-noise images should be performed in the near field. Similar recipe can be formulated for the time and frequency, which makes this work relevant for quantum-enhanced spectroscopy.

The interaction of matter with quantum light leads to phenomena which cannot be explained by semiclassical approaches. Of particular interest are states with broad photon number distributions which allow processes with high-order Fock states. Here, we analyze a Jaynes-Cummings-type model with three electronic levels which is excited by quantum light. As quantum light we consider coherent and squeezed states. In our simulations we include several loss mechanisms, namely, dephasing, cavity, and radiative losses which are relevant in real systems. We demonstrate that losses allow one to control the population of electronic levels and may induce coherent population trapping, as well as lead to a redistribution of the photon statistics among the quantum fields and even to a transfer of the photon statistics from one field to another. Moreover, we introduce and analyze a novel quantity, the quantum polarization, and demonstrate its fundamental difference compared to the classical polarization. Using the quantum polarization and the third level population, we investigate electromagnetically induced transparency in the presence of quantum light and show its special features for the case of squeezed light. Finally, quantum correlations between fields are studied and analyzed in the presence of different types of losses.

We study the spatial mode content at the output of a wide-field SU(1,1) interferometer, i.e. a nonlinear interferometer comprising two coherently-pumped spatially-multimode optical parametric amplifiers placed in sequence with a focusing element in between. This device is expected to provide a phase sensitivity below the shot-noise limit for multiple modes over a broad angular range. To reconstruct the spatial modes and their weights, we implement a simple method based on the acquisition of only intensity distributions. The eigenmode decomposition of the field is obtained through the measurement of the covariance of intensities at different spatial points. We investigate both the radial and azimuthal (orbital angular momentum) modes and show that their total number is large enough to enable applications of the interferometer in spatially-resolved phase measurements.

We use density functional theory to study the structure and the band structure of the monolayer FeSe deposited on the SrTiO$_3$ substrate with the additional layer of Se between them. Top of the SrTiO$_3$ is formed by the double TiO layer with and without oxygen vacancies. Several structures with different arrangements of the additional Se atoms above the double TiO layer is considered. Equilibrium structures were found and the band structures for them were obtained. Near the $\Gamma=(0,0,0)$ point of the Brillouin zone, the hole Fermi surface pockets persist and, additionally, an electron pocket appears. Thus neither the presence of the additional Se layer nor the oxygen vacancies in the double TiO layer leads to the sinking of hole bands below the Fermi level near the $\Gamma$ point. Bright squeezed vacuum (BSV) is a non-classical macroscopic state of light, which can be generated through high-gain parametric down-conversion or four-wave mixing. Although BSV is an important tool in quantum optics and has a lot of applications, its theoretical description is still not complete. In particular, the existing description in terms of Schmidt modes fails to explain the spectral broadening observed in experiment as the mean number of photons increases. On the other hand, the semi-classical description accounting for the broadening does not allow to decouple the intermodal photon-number correlations. In this work, we present a new generalized theoretical approach to describe the spatial properties of BSV. This approach is based on exchanging the $(\textbf{k},t)$ and $(\omega,z)$ representations and solving a system of integro-differential equations. Our approach predicts correctly the dynamics of the Schmidt modes and the broadening of the spectrum with the increase in the BSV mean photon number due to a stronger pumping. Moreover, the model succesfully describes various properties of a widely used experimental configuration with two crystals and an air gap between them, namely an SU(1,1) interferometer. In particular, it predicts the narrowing of the intensity distribution, the reduction and shift of the side lobes, and the decline in the interference visibility as the mean photon number increases due to stronger pumping. The presented experimental results confirm the validity of the new approach. The model can be easily extended to the case of frequency spectrum, frequency Schmidt modes and other experimental configurations.

An ${\rm SU(1,1)}$ interferometer uses a sequence of two optical parametric amplifiers for achieving sub-shot-noise sensitivity to a phase shift introduced in between. We present the first realization of a wide-field ${\rm SU(1,1)}$ interferometer, where the use of a focusing element enables spatially multimode operation within a broad angle. Over this angle, the interference phase is found to be flat. This property is important for the high sensitivity to the phase front disturbance. Further, $-4.3\pm0.7$ dB quadrature squeezing, an essential requirement to the high sensitivity, is experimentally demonstrated for plane-wave modes inside the interferometer. Such an interferometer is useful not only for quantum metrology, but also in remote sensing, enhanced sub-shot-noise imaging, and quantum information processing., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures
