The high-order and high-resolution numerical schemes are one of the most effective computational methods for simulating high-speed complex flows with shock waves, and the detection of discontinuous structures such as shock waves is one of the key problems in designing robust, high-resolution and high-order numerical schemes. Based on the prior mathematical knowledge and the artificial neural network (ANN) method, a modified characteristic-compression embedded discontinuity indicator was developed to improve the accuracy of discontinuity capturing in the framework of high-order schemes. The present indicator was obtained by pre-modeling based on the prior mathematical knowledge and then learning the undetermined parameters in the model through data-driven methods. This makes the discontinuity indicator concise, and has the advantage of small sample dependency during the training process, and makes the trained model have excellent properties such as low computational complexity and mathematical interpretation. Its one-dimensional form can be naturally generalized to multi-dimensional system of equations on unstructured grids. The present indicator was proved to contain two types of discontinuity capture mechanisms, namely, shock wave capture mechanism based on characteristic compression, and expansion wave origin/contact wave capture mechanism based on large gradient jump. A number of numerical results verified the accuracy of the proposed indicator for capturing different types of discontinuities in high-speed complex flows.

ObjectiveThis retrospective study aims to investigate the treatment of tic disorder (TD) in Dongfang Hospital affiliated with Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, explore its underlying mechanism, and provide valuable insights for future research and clinical management of TD.MethodsThe electronic medical records of children with TD, from 2015 to 2021, were extracted from the information system of Dongfang Hospital affiliated with Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. The clinical characteristics of TD, utilization patterns of Chinese herbal medicine and synthetic drugs in prescriptions, as well as their pharmacological effects, were statistically described and categorized. In addition, association rules and network pharmacology were employed to identify core prescriptions (CPs) and elucidate their microscopic molecular mechanisms in treating TD.ResultsThe age range of the children was from 6 to 11 years, with a higher proportion of male participants than female ones. The average duration of treatment was 6 weeks. Regimen Z for the treatment of TD can be summarized as follows: Chinese herbal medicine [Saposhnikoviae Radix (FangFeng), Puerariae Lobatae Radix (GeGen), Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis (GouTeng), Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (ShiChangPu), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (ChuanXiong)] and vitamins [lysine, inosite, and vitamin B12 oral solution] form the basic treatment, combined with immunomodulators, antibiotics, electrolyte-balancing agents, and antiallergic agents. CPs primarily exerted their effects through the modulation of gene expression (transcription), the immune system, and signal transduction pathways, with interleukin-4 and interleukin-13 pathways being particularly crucial. Among the lysine synthetic drugs used, inosite and vitamin B12 oral solution were the most frequently prescribed.ConclusionThe regimen Z drug treatment holds significant importance in the field, as it exerts its therapeutic effects through a multitude of pathways and intricate interventions. Chinese herbal medicine primarily regulates immune system–related pathways, while synthetic drugs predominantly consist of vitamins.

BackgroundInfluenza virus is one of the most common pathogens that cause viral pneumonia. During pneumonia, host immune inflammation regulation involves microbiota in the intestine and glycolysis in the lung tissues. In the clinical guidelines for pneumonia treatment in China, Ma Xing Shi Gan Decoction (MXSG) is a commonly prescribed traditional Chinese medicine formulation with significant efficacy, however, it remains unclear whether its specific mechanism of action is related to the regulation of intestinal microbiota structure and lung tissue glycolysis.ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the mechanism of action of MXSG in an animal model of influenza virus-induced pneumonia. Specifically, we aimed to elucidate how MXSG modulates intestinal microbiota structure and lung tissue glycolysis to exert its therapeutic effects on pneumonia.MethodsWe established a mouse model of influenza virus-induced pneumoni, and treated with MXSG. We observed changes in inflammatory cytokine levels and conducted 16S rRNA gene sequencing to assess the intestinal microbiota structure and function. Additionally, targeted metabolomics was performed to analyze lung tissue glycolytic metabolites, and Western blot and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays were performed to assess glycolysis-related enzymes, lipopolysaccharides (LPSs), HIF-1a, and macrophage surface markers. Correlation analysis was conducted between the LPS and omics results to elucidate the relationship between intestinal microbiota and lung tissue glycolysis in pneumonia animals under the intervention of Ma Xing Shi Gan Decoction.ResultsMXSG reduced the abundance of Gram-negative bacteria in the intestines, such as Proteobacteria and Helicobacter, leading to reduced LPS content in the serum and lungs. This intervention also suppressed HIF-1a activity and lung tissue glycolysis metabolism, decreased the number of M1-type macrophages, and increased the number of M2-type macrophages, effectively alleviating lung damage caused by influenza virus-induced pneumonia.ConclusionMXSG can alleviate glycolysis in lung tissue, suppress M1-type macrophage activation, promote M2-type macrophage activation, and mitigate inflammation in lung tissue. This therapeutic effect appears to be mediated by modulating gut microbiota and reducing endogenous LPS production in the intestines. This study demonstrates the therapeutic effects of MXSG on pneumonia and explores its potential mechanism, thus providing data support for the use of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of respiratory infectious diseases.

Objective: To uncover the underlying mechanisms of action of the Yinlai decoction on high-calorie diet-induced pneumonia through proteomics analysis. Methods: Based on the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, lung tissue samples from normal and high-fat diet (HFD) fed mice in the GSE16377 dataset were selected as test cohorts to identify differentially expressed genes and conduct bioinformatics analyses. In the animal experiments, mice were randomly divided into the control (N), high-calorie diet pneumonia (M), and Yinlai decoction treatment (Y) groups. Mice in the M group received high-calorie feed and a 0.5 mg/mL lipopolysaccharide solution spray for 30 min for 3 d. The mice in the Y group were intragastrically administered 2 mL/10 g Yinlai decoction twice daily for 3 d. Pathological evaluation of the lung tissue was performed. Differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in the lung tissue were identified using quantitative proteomics and bioinformatics analyses. The drug-target relationships between Yinlai decoction and core DEPs in the lung tissue were verified using AutoDock Vina and Molecular Graphics Laboratory (MGL) Tools. DEPs were verified by western blot. Results: GEO data mining showed that an HFD altered oxidative phosphorylation in mouse lung tissue. The Yinlai decoction alleviated pathological damage to lung tissue and pneumonia in mice that were fed a high-calorie diet. A total of 47 DEPs were identified between the Y and M groups. Enrichment analysis revealed their association with energy metabolism pathways such as the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA) and oxidative phosphorylation. The protein-protein interaction network revealed that Atp5a1, Pdha1, and Sdha were the target proteins mediating the therapeutic effects of Yinlai decoction. Molecular docking results suggested that the mechanism of the therapeutic effect of Yinlai decoction involves the binding of brassinolide, praeruptorin B, chrysoeriol, and other components in Yinlai decoction to Atp5a1. Conclusion: The Yinlai decoction alleviated lung tissue damage and pneumonia in mice that were fed a high-calorie diet by regulating the TCA and oxidative phosphorylation. Our study highlights the importance of a healthy diet for patients with pneumonia and provides a scientific basis for the prevention and treatment of pneumonia through dietary adjustments.

Carbon uptake of vegetation is controlled by phenology and photosynthetic carbon uptake capacity. However, our knowledge of the seasonal responses of vegetation productivity to phenological and physiological changes in alpine ecosystems is still weak. In this study, we quantified the spatio-temporal variations of vegetation phenology and gross primary productivity (GPP) across the source region of the Yellow River (SRYR) by analyzing MODIS-derived vegetation phenology and GPP from 2001 to 2019, and explored how vegetation phenology and maximum carbon uptake capacity (GPPmax) affected seasonal GPP over the region. Our results showed that the SRYR experienced significantly advanced trends (p < 0.05) for both start (SOS) and peak (POS) of the growing season from 2001 to 2019. Spring GPP (GPPspr) had a significantly increasing trend (p < 0.01), and the earlier SOS had obvious positive effects on GPPspr. Summer GPP (GPPsum) was significantly and negatively correlated to POS (p < 0.05). In addition, GPPmax had a significant and positive correlation with GPPsum and GPPann (p < 0.01), respectively. It was found that an earlier spring-summer phenology and higher photosynthetic peak enhanced the photosynthetic efficiency of vegetation in spring and summer and altered the seasonal patterns of vegetation productivity in the SRYR under warming and wetting climates. This study indicated that not only spring and autumn phenology but also summer phenology and maximum carbon uptake capacity should be regarded as crucial indicators regulating the carbon uptake process in alpine ecosystems. This research provides important information about how changes in phenology affect vegetation productivity in alpine ecosystems under global climate warming.

The Yellow River Basin in China has the world's most serious soil erosion problem. The Yellow River Basin in Sichuan Province (YRS), as the upper reaches of the Yellow River, and its water conservation (WC) capacity greatly affects the ecological environment of the downstream basin. In recent years, YRS has received more and more attention, and numerous policies have been developed to improve local WC. However, there is a vacancy in the long-term research of WC in the YRS due to the lack of in-situ data. This study quantitatively evaluated the WC of YRS from 2001 to 2020 through Google Earth Engine (GEE) and analyzed the spatio-temporal variations of WC and land cover (LC). CA-Markov predicted the LC and WC in 2025 under three scenarios to assess the contribution of different scenarios to WC. The WC in YRS fluctuated from 1.93 to 6.77 billion m3. The climate is the dominant factor of WC change, but the effect of LC on WC is also evident. The WC capacity increases with vegetation coverage and height. The WC capacity of forests per km2 exceeds 600 mm, while that of grasslands is about 250 mm, and barren can cause around 300 mm of WC loss. In 2025, the WC in YRS may exceed 7.5 billion m3, but the past ecological management mode should be transformed. Improving the quality of land use and converting grasslands to forests is better than reducing cropland to improve WC.

Objective: To explore the structural and functional characteristics of microbiota in oropharynx of sub-healthy children with gastrointestinal heat retention syndrome (GHRS) differentiated by traditional Chinese medicine, and screen the biometric operational taxonomic units (OTUs) to assist the clinical diagnosis. Methods: We recruited children according to the “GHRS diagnostic scale”, collected their oropharyngeal swabs, and sequenced the 16S rDNA V4 region. We described the bacterial structure with alpha-indexes, beta-distances, and relative abundances; moreover, we screened the differential genera/OTUs with Wilcoxon rank-sum test, MetagenomeSeq analysis, and linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe) analysis, in which biometric OTUs were selected to construct the receiver operating characteristic curve to verify the diagnostic value. The bacterial function was predicted with Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways according to 16S rDNA gene by using Phylogenetic Investigation of Communities by Reconstruction of Unobserved States. Results: The study population was composed of 10 children with GHRS and 10 healthy control children. GHRS children were more likely to overeat (gluttony, P = .033). Alpha-indexes, such as Sobs, abundance-based coverage estimator, Bootstrap, and Qstat, were significantly higher in the GHRS group, while beta-distances did not exhibit any significant intergroup differences. There were 9 differently distributed non-predominant genera between the groups in Wilcoxon rank-sum test, as well as 13 non-predominant genera in MetagenomeSeq analysis and 3 non-predominant OTUs in LEfSe analysis. OTU44 and OTU196 were used to construct the receiver operating characteristic curve, and the area under curve was 0.92. Predicted functions showed that pathways related to oxidative phosphorylation and carbon metabolism were enriched in healthy control samples, while the pathway related to renin secretion was remarkably enriched in GHRS samples. Conclusion: Unique oropharyngeal microbial structure and function were identified in GHRS children. OTU44 and OTU196 were specific OTUs, which could be used as biomarkers of GHRS to assist clinical diagnosis.

Abstract Background Increasing attention has been paid to the potential relationship between gut and lung. The bacterial dysbiosis in respiratory tract and intestinal tract is related to inflammatory response and the progress of lung diseases, and the pulmonary diseases could be improved by regulating the intestinal microbiome. This study aims to generate the knowledge map to identify major the research hotspots and frontier areas in the field of gut–lung axis. Materials and methods Publications related to the gut–lung axis from 2011 to 2021 were identified from the Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace 5.7.R2 software was used to analyze the publication years, journals, countries, institutions, and authors. Reference co-citation network has been plotted, and the keywords were used to analyze the research hotspots and trends. Results A total of 3315 publications were retrieved and the number of publications per year increased over time. Our results showed that Plos One (91 articles) was the most active journal and The United States (1035 articles) published the most articles. We also observed the leading institution was the University of Michigan (48 articles) and Huffnagle Gary B, Dickson Robert P and Hansbro Philip M, who have made outstanding contributions in this field. Conclusion The Inflammation, Infection and Disease were the hotspots, and the regulation of intestinal flora to improve the efficacy of immunotherapy in lung cancer was the research frontier. The research has implications for researchers engaged in gut–lung axis and its associated fields.

Objective: Gastrointestinal heat retention syndrome (GHRS) is associated with lung-heat syndrome and is related to recurrent respiratory infection. Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) lung heat syndrome is common in children. The study will explore the effect of GHRS on the structure and function of gut microbiota in children with URTI lung-heat syndrome. Methods: Participants were divided into both groups using the self-developed URTI scale and the “GHRS Diagnostic Scale · Pediatric Part”: GHRS-positive children (LS group) and GHRS-negative children (L group). General information, clinical symptoms, and stool were collected. We used 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing technology to determine the gene sequence of the V3–V4 region in feces and measure the gut microbiota of the both groups at the genus level. Results: A total of 23 children were included in the both groups. There were 12 cases in the LS group and 11 cases in the L group. There was no statistical difference between the both groups in age, gender, height, weight, and body mass index. The effective sequences shared by the both groups accounted for 85.66% of the total. In the gut microbiota, there was no difference in the α diversity and the β diversity between the both groups. Abstract In this work, we extend the characteristic-featured shock wave indicator based on artificial neuron training to 3D high-speed flow simulation on unstructured meshes. The extension is achieved through dimension splitting. This leads to that the proposed indicator is capable of identifying regions of flow compression in any direction. With this capability, the indicator is further developed to combine with h-adaptivity of mesh refinement to improve resolution with less computational costs. The present indicator provides an attractive alternative for constructing high-resolution, high-efficiency shock-processing methods to simulate high-speed inviscid flows.

Objective: To explore the relationship between gastrointestinal heat retention syndrome and the incidence of pneumonia and recurrent respiratory tract infections (RRTIs) in children. Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted in the pediatric outpatient department of Beijing Dongfang Hospital. Children without respiratory tract infections (RTIs) were consecutively recruited according to the selection criteria. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to record traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptoms and demographic and physiological characteristics. Gastrointestinal heat retention syndrome was considered to be a predisposing factor and was diagnosed according to a scale with reliability and validity. The participants were followed up for 12 months. Participants and their parents or guardians were contacted via clinical interviews and telephone every 6 months. Episodes of pneumonia and RTIs were recorded in detail. Results: A total of 420 children were included. Of participants, 370 (88.10%) were followed up for 12 months. The mean number of RTI episodes per participant was 5.37 (95% CI: 5.14 to 5.60). In total, 186 participants in the gastrointestinal heat retention syndrome group and 184 participants in the non-gastrointestinal heat retention syndrome group completed the 12-month follow-up period. The baseline of both groups was comparable. The incidence of RRTIs in children with gastrointestinal heat retention syndrome was 1.27 (95% CI: 1.01 to 1.59) times that in children without gastrointestinal heat retention syndrome. Logistic regression analysis revealed that abnormally increased appetite with frequent hunger, foul breath, dry stools, and dark red or purple fingerprints were positively correlated with the incidence of pneumonia. Irascibility and feverish feelings in the palms and soles were positively correlated with the occurrence of RRTI. Conclusions: Gastrointestinal heat retention syndrome is a risk factor for RRTIs in children. Studies with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up time are warranted to confirm the degree of causal risk associated with RTIs.

BackgroundThe impact of COVID-19 has most likely increased the prevalence of stunting. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of stunting among kindergarten children in the context of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Longgang District, Shenzhen, China, and its risk factors.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted to identify children from 11 sub districts of 481 kindergartens in the Longgang District of Shenzhen City from May to July 2021. In the context of COVID-19, an online survey was conducted to gather demographic information, height, birth information, and lifestyle. The prevalence of stunting was calculated, and the risk factors were analyzed using binary logistic regression with three stepwise models.ResultsA total of 118,404 subjects were included from May to July 2021, with a response and questionnaire effective rates of 85.75% and 95.03%, respectively. The prevalence of stunting and severe stunting were 3.3% and 0.8%, respectively. Model 3 showed that risk factors for stunting were male sex [odds ratio (OR) = 1.07], low birth weight (OR = 2.02), insufficient sleep time (OR = 1.08), less food intake than their peers (OR = 1.66), slower eating than their peers (OR = 1.16), accompanied by grandparents alone or non-lineal relatives (reference: parents accompanying) (OR = 1.23, 1.51), and children induced to eat (OR = 1.17). Protective factors included only-child status (OR = 0.66), reported high activity (OR = 0.37, 0.26, 0.23), parents with high education levels (father: OR = 0.87, 0.69; mother: OR = 0.69, 0.58), high monthly income per capita of the family (OR = 0.88, 0.74, 0.68), and allowing children to make food choices (OR = 0.82).ConclusionThe stunting rate of children in kindergartens in Longgang District is 3.3%, close to the level of developed countries but higher than the average level of developed cities in China. The relatively high stunting rate in children under 3 years old in 2021 may be associated with the influence of COVID-19. Appropriate policies should be formulated for individuals and families with children to help children establish good living habits and reduce stunting.

The carbon–water cycle is critical to ecosystem function and sustainability in dryland region. Ecosystem water use efficiency (WUE) is an important indicator reflecting the interaction between carbon and water, and investigating its spatial responses to hydrothermal and vegetative gradients is vital to understand the underlying mechanism of carbon–water coupling. The source region of the Yellow River (SRYR) is a typical alpine grassland ecosystem in drylands characterized by cold and arid climate, which is ecologically fragile and sensitive to environmental factors. In this study, we investigated the spatial variations of ecosystem WUE in the SRYR during 2000–2014 and examined its underlying drivers. The mean annual WUE showed significantly increasing trends along hydrothermal and vegetative gradients from semi-arid zone (SA) to dry sub-humid zone (DSH), with the average value of 0.59 ± 0.35 gC kg−1 H2O. The spatial variations of WUE were mainly controlled by gross primary productivity (GPP) rather than evapotranspiration (ET). Compared to precipitation (P), temperature (Ta) better explained the spatial variations of WUE. And a temperature threshold of 0 °C was found, which indicated a shift of sensitivity of WUE to thermal conditions from permafrost to seasonally frozen ground due to the effects of low temperature on photosynthetic process in alpine grassland ecosystem. The responses of WUE to LAI gradients reflected the indirect effects of hydrothermal conditions on WUE by altering LAI. This study improves our understanding of the spatial responses of the regional carbon and water interactions to environmental conditions.

Objective: To search for specific metabolites in the lungs of pneumonia rats fed with a high-calorie diet, as well as explore the changes in the lung metabolites of young rats treated with Yinlai Decoction (YD) and its effects on inflammation-related metabolic pathways. Methods: Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and a special high-calorie diet were used to induce Sprague Dawley (SD) rats to simulate the intestinal state of infant pneumonia. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry technology (LC-MS/MS) was used to detect metabolites in each group. Supervised orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) model values were used for the detection results to find the differential metabolites. The metabolic pathways that are involved with the differential metabolites were clarified through enrichment analysis and topological analysis. Finally, the T cell receptor signaling pathway (TCR) signal conversion was analyzed by the network pharmacology method. Results: In the high-calorie diet combined with pneumonia group (M3), a total of 55 metabolites were determined to be different from the normal group (N). A total of 36 metabolites were determined to be different from those in the lung metabolites of the YD treatment group (T1). YD had a regulatory effect on glutathione metabolism, arginine and proline metabolism, ascorbic acid and aldehyde metabolism and phenylalanine metabolism. And the small molecule metabolites could act on the FYN and lymphocyte-specific protein tyrosine kinase (LCK) target proteins in the TCR signaling pathway, thereby affecting the immune function of the lungs. Conclusion: A high-calorie diet can cause abnormal sphingolipid metabolism in the lungs of young rats, thereby creating chronic lung inflammation in young rats. YD has a beneficial effect when used to treat young rats with LPS-induced pneumonia fed on high-calorie diets. Its mechanisms of action may affect the body’s immune pathways by regulating the oxidative stress pathway affected by glutathione metabolism.

The use of herbs to treat various human diseases has been recorded for thousands of years. In Asia's current medical system, numerous herbal formulas have been repeatedly verified to confirm their effectiveness in different periods, which is a great resource for drug innovation and discovery. Through the mining of these clinical effective formulas by network pharmacology and bioinformatics analysis, important biologically active ingredients derived from these natural products might be discovered. As modern medicine requires a combination of multiple drugs for the treatment of complex diseases, previously clinical formulas are also combinations of various herbs according to the main causes and accompanying symptoms. However, the herbs that play a major role in the treatment of diseases are always unclear. Therefore, how to rank each herb's relative importance and determine the core herbs, is the first step to assisting herb selection for active ingredients discovery. To solve this problem, we built the platform FangNet, which ranks all herbs on their relative topological importance using the PageRank algorithm, based on the constructed symptom-herb network from a collection of clinical empirical prescriptions. Three types of herb hidden knowledge, including herb importance rank, herb-herb co-occurrence, and associations to symptoms, were provided in an interactive visualization. Moreover, FangNet has designed role-based permission for teams to store, analyze, and jointly interpret their clinical formulas, in an easy and secure collaboration environment, aiming at creating a central hub for massive symptom-herb connections. Abstract Background Pneumonia is a common respiratory disorder, which brings an enormous financial burden to the medical system. However, the current treatment options for pneumonia are limited because of drug resistance and side effects. Our previous study preliminarily confirmed that Yinlai Decoction (YD), a common prescription for pneumonia in clinical practice, can regulate the expression of inflammatory factors, but the mechanisms are unknown yet. Methods In our work, a method named network pharmacology was applied, which investigated the underlying mechanisms of herbs based on a variety of databases. We obtained bioactive ingredients of YD on TCMSP database and collected potential targets of these ingredients by target fishing. Then the pneumonia-related targets database was built by TTD, Drugbank, HPO, OMIM, and CTD. Based on the matching targets between YD and pneumonia, the PPI network was built by STRING to analyze the interactions among these targets and then input into Cytoscape for further topological analysis. DAVID and KEGG were utilized for GO and pathway enrichment analysis. Then rat model based on LPS stimulated pneumonia was used to verify the possible mechanism of YD in treating pneumonia. Results Sixty-eight active ingredients, 103 potential targets and 8 related pathways, which likely exert a number of effects, were identified. Three networks were constructed using Cytoscape, which were herb-component-network, YD-pneumonia target network, and herb-component-YD target-pneumonia network. YD was verified to treat LPS-induced pneumonia by regulating the inflammatory factor IL-6, which was a predicted target. Conclusion Network analysis indicated that YD could alleviate the symptoms and signs of pneumonia through regulating host immune inflammatory response, angiogenesis and vascular permeability, the barrier function of the airway epithelial cells, hormone releasing and cell growth, proliferation, and apoptosis.

Objective: To investigate the association between gastrointestinal heat retention syndrome (GHRS) and adult chronic eczema. Methods: This case–control study compared GHRS/GHRS accompanied by damp-heat syndrome (GHRS-DHS) and other patient characteristics between subjects with (cases) and without chronic eczema (controls) to identify potential factors associated with this condition. Semi-structured questionnaires were used to collect data via face-to-face interviews. Participants were recruited from Dongzhimen Hospital affiliated with Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. A logistic regression analysis was performed on the collected data, and odds ratios (ORs) were calculated. Results: A total of 168 cases and 172 controls were recruited. Objective: Bushen Chengyun granule (BCG) is an empirical treatment for female infertility (FI) caused by low endometrial receptivity (LER) involving a poorly understood mechanism. In this study, network pharmacology was used to explore the potential therapeutic mechanism of BCG on FI caused by LER. Methods: The corresponding herb targets were obtained by conducting a search in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and PubMed-reported literature. Disease targets were obtained from the following databases: Comparative Toxicogenomics Database, Human Phenotype Ontology, and Therapeutic Target Database. Treatments for LER using BCG have used target matching (BCG – LER target). Then, the predicted targets were uploaded to the Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes/Proteins database for gene ontology enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analyses. Furthermore, triptorelin acetate for injection + menotrophin + chorionic gonadotropin for injection were used to establish a mouse model of blastocyst implantation disorder and to evaluate the in vivo effect of BCG on blastocyst implantation. A flash flood disaster is one of the most destructive natural disasters. With the increase in extreme rainfall events, more and more areas will be threatened by flash floods. The flash flood susceptibility assessment is the basis of flash flood risk assessment and is also an important step in flash flood disaster management. Based on Citespace analysis tools, this study made a bibliometric and visualized analysis of 305 documents collected in the core collection of Web of Science in the past 15 years, including the analysis of the number of publications and citation frequency, influence analysis, keyword analysis, author co-citation analysis, and institutional co-operation analysis. This paper summarizes the current research status and future development trend of flash flood susceptibility assessment from five key research subfields, including assessment scale, assessment unit, assessment index, assessment model, and model assessment method, discusses the analysis of the application of remote sensing and GIS in flash flood susceptibility assessment, discusses the problems encountered in the current research of the five subfields, and provides suggestions for flash flood hazard control.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of a short-term high-calorie diet and the regulation mechanism of Raphanus sativus L. seeds (RSL seeds) on the intestinal motility of young rats. Methods: We fed 20 Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) 4-week-old male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats special high-calorie diet for 3 days and then randomized them to a high-calorie diet group (HCG, 10 rats) and an RSL seeds treatment group (TG, 10 rats). Ten rats of the same age served as the control group (CG). HCG and TG rats continued to be fed high-calorie feed. All of the rats were weighed every 2 days. After 3 days of treatment, the effects of RSL seeds on the regulation of intestinal motility in rats consuming a high-calorie diet were examined. Results: After 3 days of consuming a high-calorie diet, body weight was significantly lower in the HCG group than in the control group, and body weight of the HCG group increased slowly with time. Serum substance P (SP) and ghrelin levels were significantly lower, while the nitric oxide (NO) level was significantly higher. There were no differences in hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining of colon sections between the groups. The expression levels of Cx43 and BDNF protein and mRNA in colon tissue were significantly lower in the HCG group. There were no significant differences in body weight between the CG and TG groups. Serum SP and ghrelin indexes in TG group were higher than those in the HCG group, and the NO index was significantly decreased. The expression levels of Cx43 and BDNF proteins and mRNA in the colon tissue were also significantly greater. Conclusion: Consumption of a short-term high-calorie diet may result in intestinal motility dysfunction and reduced intestinal motility. RSL seeds may improve the intestinal motility by regulating the secretion of gastrointestinal motility hormones and the expression of intestinal motility-related proteins, such as Cx43 and BDNF.

As natural agroecology deteriorates, controlled environment agriculture (CEA) systems become the backup support for coping with future resource consumption and potential food crises. Compared with natural agroecology, most of the environmental parameters of the CEA system rely on manual management. Such a system is dependent and fragile and prone to degradation, which includes harmful bacteria proliferation and productivity decline. Proper water management is significant for constructing a stabilized rhizosphere microenvironment. It has been proved that water is an efficient tool for changing the availability of nutrients, plant physiological processes, and microbial communities within. However, for CEA issues, relevant research is lacking at present. The article reviews the interactive mechanism between water management and rhizosphere microenvironments from the perspectives of physicochemical properties, physiological processes, and microbiology in CEA systems. We presented a synthesis of relevant research on water–root–microbes interplay, which aimed to provide detailed references to the conceptualization, research, diagnosis, and troubleshooting for CEA systems, and attempted to give suggestions for the construction of a high-tech artificial agricultural ecology.

Global climate changes have a great impact on terrestrial ecosystems. Vegetation is an important component of ecosystems, and the impact of climate changes on ecosystems can be determined by studying vegetation phenology. Vegetation phenology refers to the phenomenon of periodic changes in plants, such as germination, flowering and defoliation, with the seasonal change of climate during the annual growth cycle, and it is considered to be one of the most efficient indicators to monitor climate changes. This study collected the global land surface satellite leaf area index (GLASS LAI) products, meteorological data sets and other auxiliary data in the Three-River headwaters region from 2001 to 2018; rebuilt the vegetation LAI annual growth curve by using the asymmetric Gaussian (A-G) fitting method and extracted the three vegetation phenological data (including Start of Growing Season (SOS), End of Growing Season (EOS) and Length of Growing Season (LOS)) by the maximum slope method. In addition, it also integrated Sen’s trend analysis method and the Mann-Kendall test method to explore the temporal and spatial variation trends of vegetation phenology and explored the relationship between vegetation phenology and meteorological factors through a partial correlation analysis and multiple linear regression models. The results of this study showed that: (1) the SOS of vegetation in the Three-River headwaters region is concentrated between the beginning and the end of May, with an interannual change rate of −0.14 d/a. The EOS of vegetation is concentrated between the beginning and the middle of October, with an interannual change rate of 0.02 d/a. The LOS of vegetation is concentrated between 4 and 5 months, with an interannual change rate of 0.21 d/a. (2) Through the comparison and verification with the vegetation phenological data observed at the stations, it was found that the precision of the vegetation phonology extracted by the A-G method and the maximum slope method based on GLASS LAI data is higher (MAE is 7.6 d, RMSE is 8.4 d) and slightly better than the vegetation phenological data (MAE is 9.9 d, RMSE is 10.9 d) extracted based on the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer normalized difference vegetation index (MODIS NDVI) product. (3) The correlation between the SOS of vegetation and the average temperature in March–May is the strongest. The SOS of vegetation is advanced by 1.97 days for every 1 °C increase in the average temperature in March–May; the correlation between the EOS of vegetation and the cumulative sunshine duration in August–October is the strongest. The EOS of vegetation is advanced by 0.07 days for every 10-h increase in the cumulative sunshine duration in August–October.

Flash flood is one of the extremely destructive natural disasters in the world. In recent years, extreme rainfall events caused by global climate change have increased, and flash flood disasters are becoming the main types of natural disasters in the world. Due to the characteristics of strong suddenness, complex disaster-causing factors, great difficulty in prediction and forecast, and the lack of historical data, it is difficult to effectively prevent and control flash flood disaster. The early identification technology of flash floods is not only the basis of flash flood disaster prediction and early warning, but also an effective means of flash flood prevention and control. The paper makes a meta-analysis and visual analysis of 475 documents collected by the Web of Science Document Platform in the past 31 years by comprehensively using Citespace, Vosviewer, Origin, etc. We systematically summarize the research progress and development trend of early identification technology of flash flood disasters from five key research subfields: (1) precipitation, (2) sediment, (3) sensitivity analysis, (4) risk assessment, (5) uncertainty analysis. In addition, we analyze and discuss the main problems encountered in the current research of several subfields and put forward some suggestions to provide references for the prevention and control of flash flood disasters.

Objective: Pediatric pneumonia is a common respiratory disease and Yinlai Decoction (YLD) is a commonly used treatment in China. We explored the anti-inflammatory mechanism of action of this traditional Chinese medicine for pneumonia. Methods: We studied, by experimentation, the mechanism of action of YLD in treating pneumonia according to network pharmacology. By comparing YLD with dexamethasone (DXMS), we investigated the efficacy of YLD in treating pneumonia induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in juvenile rats. Results: In an aqueous extract of YLD, 22 chemical compounds were identified, among which 10 were related to inflammation, involving 78 target genes and 16 signaling pathways. Among them, 45 core target proteins were related to biologic processes and functions, such as response to stimuli, biologic regulation, cell communication and protein binding. Animal experiments showed that YLD relieved pulmonary inflammation and demonstrated no significant damage to the liver, spleen or kidneys of rats. YLD could regulate expression of inflammatory cytokines in serum and inflammation-related proteins in lung tissues to some extent, but its effect is less significant than that of DXMS. Conclusions: YLD protected juvenile rats against LPS-induced pneumonia, and showed fewer side effects in comparison with DXMS. YLD could be efficacious treatment for pediatric respiratory infections and even pneumonia. The outbreak of new infectious pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 has posed a significant threat to public health, but specific medicines and vaccines are still being developed. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has thousands of years of experience in facing the epidemic disease, such as influenza and viral pneumonia. In this study, we revealed the efficacy and pharmacological mechanism of Ma Xing Shi Gan (MXSG) Decoction against COVID-19. First, we used liquid chromatography–electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS) to analyze the chemical components in MXSG and identified a total of 97 components from MXSG. Then, the intervention pathway of MXSG based on these components was analyzed with network pharmacology, and it was found that the pathways related to the virus infection process were enriched in some of MXSG component targets. Simultaneously, through literature research, it was preliminarily determined that MXSG, which is an essential prescription for treating COVID-19, shared the feature of antiviral, improving clinical symptoms, regulating immune inflammation, and inhibiting lung injury. The regulatory mechanisms associated with its treatment of COVID-19 were proposed. That MXSG might directly inhibit the adsorption and replication of SARS-CoV-2 at the viral entry step. Besides, MXSG might play a critical role in inflammation and immune regulatory, that is, to prevent cytokine storm and relieve lung injury through toll-like receptors signaling pathway. Next, in this study, the regulatory effect of MXSG on inflammatory lung injury was validated through transcriptome results. In summary, MXSG is a relatively active and safe treatment for influenza and viral pneumonia, and its therapeutic effect may be attributed to its antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects.

Age-related cataract (ARC) is a main cause of blindness for elderly people. MicroRNA hsa_miR-29c-3p (miR-29c-3p) was implicated in many biological processes in complicated diseases. However, the biological mechanism of miR-29c-3p in ARC is still undefined. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) showed that miR-29c-3p was lowly expressed, while FBJ murine osteosarcoma viral oncogene homolog (FOS) and KCNQ1 overlapping transcript 1 (KCNQ1OT1) were highly expressed in cataract tissues and in TGF-β2-treated SRA01/04 cells. Western blot assay indicated that TGF-β2 could promote epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Moreover, our data suggested that miR-29c-3p overexpression suppressed EMT, cell proliferation and promoted apoptosis in TGF-β2-treated SRA01/04 cells. The dual-luciferase reporter assay verified that FOS was a target of miR-29c-3p and miR-29c-3p was directly targeted by KCNQ1OT1. Furthermore, KCNQ1OT1 could regulate FOS expression by sponging miR-29c-3p. Functional assays revealed that miR-29c-3p regulated FOS to repress EMT, cell proliferation and facilitate apoptosis in TGF-β2-treated SRA01/04 cells mediated by KCNQ1OT1. In conclusion, KCNQ1OT1/miR-29c-3p/FOS axis played a vital role in the progression of ARC.

Objective: To explore the mechanism of Yinlai Decoction (YD) intervening the mice model of FM1 influenza virus compound with high-fat and protein-diet by detecting the survival rate, lung injury, the expression of inflammatory cytokines. Methods: A high-fat and protein-diet mouse model was built. Mice were randomly divided to groups of blank control, normal diet, high-fat and protein-diet (HPD), the Ribavirin, the Shuanghuanglian, the Xiaoer huashi Pill and the YD, all infected with FM1 virus via nose after four days' high-fat and protein-diet. The electrogastrography (EGG) was recorded, as well as the serum levels of the gastrin and plasma vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) were observed. Mice in the blank control group were shame-infected with 0.05 mL saline, while the mice in other groups were infected by 0.05 mL mouse lung-adapted FM1 virus. Interventions were performed by stomach perfusion for next seven days. Same dose saline was given in the blank control, normal diet and HPD groups. The life protection and mean survival days were calculated. The lung injuries were observed by H&E method. The expression of gastrin and VIP were detected by radioimmunoassay. The serum levels of IFN-γ, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-α were measured by ELISA. Results: Compared with normal diet group, EGG dominant frequency, EGG swing, instability coefficient increased in HPD group. Compared with HPD group, Ribavirin group and YD group showed significantly higher survival rate and IL-10 and IFN-γ levels significantly increased while the IL-6 and TNF-α levels significantly decreased. Compared with blank control group, severe lung cirrhosis injuries were found in HPD group, and mild injuries were found in YD group and Ribavirin group. Conclusions: The YD can regulate the level of cytokines, and improve the pathological damages of lung tissue, and then protect the mice with high-fat and protein-diet from being injured from the FM1 virus.

Objective: To examine the effects of accumulated heat in GI tract (AHGIT) on lung tissue protein expression in pneumonic mice. Methods: Nebulized lipopolysaccharides (LPS) were administered to induce a pneumonic mouse model (M1), and a high-calorie/protein diet combined with nebulized LPS was used to induce AHGIT pneumonia (M2). Isobaric tag for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ) proteomics was applied to study lung protein expression, followed by bioinformatics analysis. Results: M1 mice developed alveolar damage with prominent septum thickening, vascular dilation, hyperaemia and infiltration of large amounts of inflammatory cells. M2 mice developed more severe pathological responses. A total of 2626 proteins were reliably identified in the lung tissue. Compared with normal mice, the M1 mice had 344 differentially expressed proteins in their lungs, which are involved in the following biological processes: response to organic substance, response to cytokine, response to external stimulus, defense response and immune system process. They are also involved in the following Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways: ECM-receptor interaction, leukocyte transendothelial migration, Fc gamma R-mediated phagocytosis, complement and coagulation cascades, and antigen processing and presentation. Compared with the M1 group, the M2 mice had 164 differentially expressed proteins in their lungs, including 14 upregulated and 150 downregulated proteins. These proteins are involved in the following biological processes: small molecule metabolism, ribose phosphate metabolic process, cell adhesion and biological adhesion. The relevant KEGG pathways included oxidative phosphorylation, Citrate cycle (TCA cycle), complement and coagulation cascades, and vascular smooth muscle contraction. Conclusions: AHGIT aggravated the lung inflammatory damage in the mice with LPS-induced pneumonia. It may affect the mouse substance/energy metabolism, and therefore the immune function, to aggravate the LPS-induced inflammatory damage.

Stromal cell–derived factor 1 (SDF-1) and its receptor CXCR4 have shown to play a role in embryonic development process, regulation of hematopoiesis, mediating immunology response, inflammatory reaction, and metastasis of malignant tumor. Recently, SDF-1 and CXCR4 are also closely related to retinal neovascularization. This study was to investigate the expression of SDF-1 and CXCR4 in the retina after optic nerve injury in pregnant rats so as to reveal its significance. A total of 12 pregnant rats were randomly divided into normal group and experimental group (after 5 days of optic nerve injury), six rats in each group; expressions of SDF-1 as well as CXCR4 in rat retina were detected by immunofluorescence staining and western blot assay. Objective: To explore the association between dietary habits and recurrent respiratory infection (RRI) in children aged 0–14 years. Methods: This case–control study compared dietary data of children with (cases) and without RRI (controls) collected via structured questionnaire. Participants were recruited from Chinese medicine clinics, hospitals, and children's learning institutions in Beijing. A logistic regression analysis and odds ratio (OR) calculations were conducted using SPSS 17.0 software. Results: A total of 241 questionnaires were collected (case:control ratio: approximately 2:1). Frequent consumption of processed foods (OR = 2.988, 95% confidence intervals 1.375–6.491) and high-sugar foods (OR = 2.268, 95% confidence intervals 1.163–4.424), frequent picky eating (OR = 2.614, 95% confidence intervals 1.363–5.014), and a meat-heavy diet with fewer vegetables (OR = 1.830, 95% confidence intervals 1.358–2.467) correlated positively correlated with RRI. Additionally, 57.80% of the children with RRI were addicted to high-sugar foods, compared with 41.57% of the children without RRI (P = .015). Furthermore, 63.16% of the children with RRI were picky eaters, compared with 48.31% of the children without RRI (P = .024). Finally, 30.92% of the children with RRI frequently consumed processed foods, compared with only 17.98% of the children without RRI (P = .027). Conclusion: Although RRI correlates positively with several dietary habits, in the future, prospective cohort studies with larger samples are needed to generalize these findings.

Conflicts between water supply and water demand are intensifying in irrigation districts along the Lower Yellow River due to climate change and human activities. To ensure both adequate food supply and water resource sustainability in China, the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model was used to simulate the water balance and water use of agro-ecosystems in an irrigation district of the lower Yellow River Basin, China. Simulated average annual irrigation requirements decreased from 1969 to 2010. Irrigation requirements during the winter wheat season decreased owing to reduced reference evapotranspiration and increased precipitation. Annual evapotranspiration (ET) increased with increasing irrigation volume, and differences among irrigation scenarios were mainly due to ET of winter wheat. Water deficit typically occurred during winter wheat seasons with less precipitation. Field seepage and surface runoff tended to occur in years with high precipitation, particularly during the summer maize season under full irrigation and scheduled irrigation scenarios. Frequent and heavy irrigation did not always lead to high water use efficiency. To cope with limited water resources in this region, it is necessary to properly irrigate crops based on soil water content and take full advantage of precipitation and surface runoff during the summer maize season.
