High-entropy fluorite oxides (HEFOs) show significant potential for thermal protection applications due to their advantageous combination of low thermal conductivity and high Yong’s modulus. However, the factors influencing its formation have not been well studied, and a systematic method for compositional design has not yet been established. In this paper, the effects of oxygen vacancy concentration (Ovac) and mean cation radius (r¯) on formability of HEFOs were investigated to develop a compositional design approach. The results indicate that an appropriate r¯ and Ovac is crucial for promoting the formability of single-phase (CaxCey1Zry2HfzSnzTiz)O2−δ HEFOs. High mass/size disorder and an appropriate Ovac (10%) result in (Ca0.2Ce0.14Zr0.12Hf0.18Sn0.18Ti0.18)O2−δ exhibiting the lowest thermal conductivity of 1.24 W·m−1·K−1. Building upon these insights and employing a valence combination strategy, three new single-phase HEFOs with low thermal conductivity were successfully designed and synthesized, namely, (La0.28Y0.28Ce0.18Zr0.18W0.08)O2−δ, (La0.3Y0.3Ce0.2Nb0.1Ta0.1)O2−δ, and (Yb0.52Ce0.12Zr0.12Sn0.12Nb0.12)O2−δ. This design approach will provide a valuable reference for the design of other high-entropy oxides.

Abstract Background Pesticide efficacy directly affects crop yield and quality, making targeted spraying a more environmentally friendly and effective method of pesticide application. Common targeted cabbage spraying methods often involve object detection networks. However, complex natural and lighting conditions pose challenges in the accurate detection and positioning of cabbage. Results In this study, a cabbage detection algorithm based on the YOLOv8n neural network (YOLOv8-cabbage) combined with a positioning system constructed using a Realsense depth camera is proposed. Initially, four of the currently available high-performance object detection models were compared, and YOLOv8n was selected as the transfer learning model for field cabbage detection. Data augmentation and expansion methods were applied to extensively train the model, a large kernel convolution method was proposed to improve the bottleneck section, the Swin transformer module was combined with the convolutional neural network (CNN) to expand the perceptual field of feature extraction and improve edge detection effectiveness, and a nonlocal attention mechanism was added to enhance feature extraction. Ablation experiments were conducted on the same dataset under the same experimental conditions, and the improved model increased the mean average precision (mAP) from 88.8% to 93.9%. Subsequently, depth maps and colour maps were aligned pixelwise to obtain the three-dimensional coordinates of the cabbages via coordinate system conversion. The positioning error of the three-dimensional coordinate cabbage identification and positioning system was (11.2 mm, 10.225 mm, 25.3 mm), which meets the usage requirements. Conclusions We have achieved accurate cabbage positioning. The object detection system proposed here can detect cabbage in real time in complex field environments, providing technical support for targeted spraying applications and positioning.

Objective The most common causes of plantar and heel pain are plantar fasciitis and calcaneal spurs, and they often co‐exist. Surgery is a recognized treatment for refractory plantar fasciitis. However, few studies have proposed treatment options for patients with metatarsophalangeal fasciitis with bone spurs. Accordingly, this study's purpose was to propose a four‐step surgical regimen, and to improve the surgical outcome of plantar fasciitis with osteophytes and to establish a procedure for surgical treatment. Methods Retrospective analysis of 45 patients suffering from plantar fasciitis with bone spurs from 2020 to 2023. All patients underwent a four‐step procedure, including plantar fascia release, calcaneal spur grinding, inflammatory tissue removal, and calcaneal burr decompression. The imaging parameters and functional scores were recorded before and after the operation. The objective evaluation included the measurement of calcaneal spur length on radiographs. Clinical evaluation included the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and the Foot and Ankle Outcome Scale (FAOS). Measurement data that conformed to normal distribution were expressed as (x2 ± s), and pre‐and postoperative AOFAS, FAOS, and VAS scores were compared using repeated‐measures ANOVA, and preoperative and postoperative spur lengths were compared using paired t‐tests. Results The 45 patients were followed up for 3 to 30 months, (17.72 ± 8.53) months, at final follow‐up, the patient's AOFAS score improved from preoperative (74.93 ± 5.56) to (94.78 ± 3.98), FAOS score increased from preoperative (76.42 ± 3.37) to (96.16 ± 2.74), the VAS score decreased from (3.18 ± 0.54) to (1.07 ± 1.20) (p

Background: Portal vein pressure (PVP) is crucial in the diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and prognosis of portal hypertension (PHT). At present, the hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) and the portal vein pressure gradient (PPG) are the main approaches for portal pressure measurement. However, HVPG and PPG are limited in application due to invasive operations and high requirements for medical conditions. A more convenient way to measure portal pressure is demanded. Objectives: To detect whether the endoscopic variceal pressure (EVP) could predict the PVP. Design: This is a single-center retrospective study that detects whether the EVP could predict the PVP. Methods: Thirty-six patients were considered eligible for pre-emptive transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) and were willing to accept the endoscopy-TIPS hybrid surgery (continuous operation within 24 h) from April 2023 to October 2023 retrospectively. EVP was measured in the procedure of the modified sandwich method. HVPG, PPG, and PVP were measured following TIPS operation. EVP was compared with HVPG, PPG, and PVP in groups divided by different sarin classifications and whether portal vein thrombosis (PVT) or not. Results: EVP was successfully measured and recorded in all. Totally, HVPG was lower than PPG, PPG was lower than PVP, and EVP manifested between PPG and PVP. In the PVT group, HVPG was lower than PPG, PPG was lower than EVP, and EVP manifested between PPG and PVP. In the non-PVT group, HVPG was lower than PPG, PPG was lower than PVP, and EVP manifested between PPG and PVP. In the gastroesophageal varices group, HVPG was lower than PPG, and PPG was lower than EVP. Conclusion: As a novel way for prediction, EVP measurement might be useful and convenient in PHT. Moreover, it might be closer to the PVP.

Background Cervical cancer remains a global health challenge. The identification of new immunotherapeutic targets may provide a promising platform for advancing cervical cancer treatment.Objective This study aims to investigate the role of CUB domain-containing protein 1 (CDCP1) in cervical cancer progression and evaluate its potential as a therapeutic target.Methods We performed comprehensive analyses using patient cohorts and preclinical models to examine the association between CDCP1 expression and cervical cancer prognosis. Then in immunodeficient and immunocompetent mouse models, we further investigated the impact of CDCP1 on the tumor immune microenvironment, focusing on its effects on tumor-infiltrating T cells, including cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and regulatory T cells (Tregs). Mechanistic studies were performed to elucidate the pathways involved in CDCP1-mediated immune modulation, in particular its interaction with the T cell receptor CD6 and the activation of the JAK-STAT signaling pathway.Results Our results show that CDCP1 overexpression is associated with poor prognosis and T cell infliction in cervical cancer. Specifically, it affects the activity of CTLs and Tregs. Mechanistically, CDCP1 binds to CD6 and inhibits the JAK-STAT pathway of T cells. The study further demonstrates that targeting CDCP1 with the inhibitor 8-prenylnaringenin (8PN) effectively suppresses tumor growth in vivo and enhances antitumor immunity.Conclusions CDCP1 plays a critical role in cervical cancer progression by modulating the tumor immune microenvironment. Targeting CDCP1 offers a promising therapeutic strategy to improve the outcome of patients with cervical cancer.

Saccharomyces boulardii (Sb) is a probiotic yeast for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Little is known about the modulatory capacity of the Sb in IBD. Here, we found that oral gavage of Sb supernatant (SbS) alleviated gut inflammation, protected the intestinal barrier, and reversed DSS-induced down-regulated activation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in colitis. Mass spectrum analysis showed that thioredoxin (Trx) is one of the critical secreted soluble proteins participating in EGFR activation detected in SbS. Trx exerted an array of significant effects on anti-inflammatory activity, including alleviating inflammation, protecting gut barrier, suppressing apoptosis, as well as reducing oxidative stress. Mechanistically, Trx promoted EGFR ligand gene expression and transactivated EGFR in a concentration-dependent manner. EGFR kinase inhibitor could block Trx-mediated preventive effects of intestinal epithelial injury. Our data suggested that Sb-derived soluble protein Trx could serve as a potential prophylactic, as a novel postbiotic against colitis, which provides a new strategy for the precision prevention and treatment of IBD.

Abstract Halide perovskites with naturally coupled electron‐ion dynamics hold great potential for nonvolatile memory applications. Self‐rectifying memristors are promising as they can avoid sneak currents and simplify device configuration. Here we report a self‐rectifying memristor firstly achieved in a single perovskite (NHCINH3)3PbI5 (abbreviated as (IFA)3PbI5), which is sandwiched by Ag and ITO electrodes as the simplest cell in a crossbar array device configuration. The iodide ions of (IFA)3PbI5 can be easily activated, of which the migration in the bulk contributes to the resistance hysteresis and the reaction with Ag at the interface contributes to the spontaneous formation of AgI. The perfect combination of n‐type AgI and p‐type (IFA)3PbI5 gives rise to the rectification function like a p–n diode. Such a self‐rectifying memristor exhibits the record‐low set power consumption and voltage. This work emphasizes that the multifunction of ions in perovskites can simplify the fabrication procedure, decrease the programming power, and increase the integration density of future memory devices.

Background: Scutellariae radix (SR) is the dried root of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi. It has a long history of ethnic medicinal use, traditionally recognized for its efficacy in clearing heat， drying dampness, eliminating fire， removing toxins, stopping bleeding and tranquilizing fetus to prevent miscarriage. Clinically, it is used to treat cold, fever, migraine, hand-foot-and-mouth diseases, liver cancer and inflammatory diseases. Purpose: The review aims to provide a comprehensive reference on the ethnobotanical uses, processing, phytochemistry, pharmacological effect, quality control and influence factors of biosynthesis for a deeper understanding of SR. Results and conclusion: A total of 210 isolated components have been reported in the literature, including flavonoids and their glycosides, phenylpropanoids, phenylethanoid glycosides, phenolic acids, volatile components, polysaccharides and others. The extract of SR and its main flavonoids such as baicalin, baicalein, wogonin, wogonoside, and scutellarin showed antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antiviral, hepatoprotective, and neuroprotective effects. However, further studies are required to elucidate its mechanisms of action and clinical applications. The pharmacodynamic evaluation based on traditional efficacy should be conducted. Although various analytical methods have been established for the quality control of SR, there are gaps in the research regarding efficacy-related quality markers and the development of quality control standards for its processed products. The regulatory mechanisms of flavonoids biosynthesis remain to be explored while the influence of environmental and transcription factors on the biosynthesis have been studied. In conclusion, SR is a promising herbal medicine with significant potential for future development.

Summary: The Streptomyces antibiotic regulatory proteins (SARPs) are ubiquitously distributed transcription activators in Streptomyces and control antibiotics biosynthesis and morphological differentiation. However, the molecular mechanism behind SARP-dependent transcription initiation remains elusive. We here solve the cryo-EM structure of an AfsR-loading RNA polymerase (RNAP)-promoter intermediate complex (AfsR-RPi) including the Streptomyces coelicolor RNAP, a large SARP member AfsR, and its target promoter DNA that retains the upstream portion straight. The structure reveals that one dimeric N-terminal AfsR-SARP domain (AfsR-SARP) specifically engages with the same face of the AfsR-binding sites by the conserved DNA-binding domains (DBDs), replacing σHrdBR4 to bind the suboptimal −35 element, and shortens the spacer between the −10 and −35 elements. Notably, the AfsR-SARPs also recruit RNAP through extensively interacting with its conserved domains (β flap, σHrdBR4, and αCTD). Thus, these macromolecular snapshots support a general model and provide valuable clues for SARP-dependent transcription activation in Streptomyces.

Introduction Patients with clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH) are recommended to be treated with non-selective beta-blockers (ie, carvedilol) to prevent the first hepatic decompensation event by the renewing Baveno VII consensus. CSPH is defined by hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG)≥10 mm Hg; however, the HVPG measurement is not widely adopted due to its invasiveness. Liver stiffness (LS)≥25 kPa can be used as a surrogate of HVPG≥10 mm Hg to rule in CSPH with 90% of the positive predicting value in majority aetiologies of patients. A compelling argument is existing for using LS≥25 kPa to diagnose CSPH and then to initiate carvedilol in patients with compensated cirrhosis, and about 5%–6% of patients under this diagnosis criteria may not be benefited from carvedilol and are at risk of lower heart rate and mean arterial pressure. Randomised controlled trial on the use of carvedilol to prevent liver decompensation in CSPH diagnosed by LS remains to elucidate. Therefore, we aimed to investigate if compensated cirrhosis patients with LS≥25 kPa may benefit from carvedilol therapy.Methods and analysis This study is a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre trial. We will randomly assign 446 adult compensated cirrhosis patients with LS≥25 kPa and without any previous decompensated event and without high-risk gastro-oesophageal varices. Patients are randomly divided into two groups, with 223 subjects in group A and 223 subjects in group B. Group A is a carvedilol intervention group, while group B is a placebo group. All patients in both groups will receive aetiology therapies and are followed up at an interval of 6 months. The 3-year incidences of decompensated events of cirrhosis-related and liver-related death are the primary outcome. The secondary outcomes include development of each complication of portal hypertension individually (ascites, variceal bleeding or overt hepatic encephalopathy), development of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and other bacterial infections, development of new varices, growth of small varices to large varices, delta changes in LS and spleen stiffness, change in hepatic dysfunction assessed by Child-Pugh and model for end-stage liver disease score, change in platelet count, development of hepatocellular carcinoma, development of portal vein thrombosis and adverse events with a 3-year follow-up. A predefined interim analysis will be performed to ensure that the calculation is reasonable.Ethics and dissemination The study protocol has been approved by the ethics committees of the Sixth People’s Hospital of Shenyang (2023-05-003-01) and independent ethics committee for clinical research of Zhongda Hospital, affiliated to Southeast University (2023ZDSYLL433-P01). The results from this trial will be submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals and will be presented at international conferences.Trial registration number ChiCTR2300073864.

The present systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to quantitatively assess the efficacy of dietary supplementation of bile acids on growth performance, feed utilization and physiological parameters in aquaculture species. Hedges’ g effect size and corresponding 95% confidence intervals were calculated to quantify differences in outcome indicators in an experimental dietary treatment group relative to a control group. The publication bias analysis was evaluated to the robustness of the pooled estimates. Potential sources of heterogeneity were explored using sensitivity test, subgroup analysis, and meta-regression analysis. All analyses were performed using metafor and ggplot2 packages in the program R. Overall, the meta-results indicated that dietary bile acids supplementation caused a significant increase in final body weight (FBW), weight gain rate (WGR), specific growth rate (SGR), protein efficiency ratio (PER), circulating high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), digestive enzymes (lipase, protease, amylase), hepatic superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, serum or plasma lysozyme, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), immunoglobulins, as well as a significant decrease in feed conversion ratio (FCR), circulating triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), hepatic lipid content (HLC), and hepatic malondialdehyde (MDA) content. A moderate or large heterogeneity was identified across the studies for the outcome parameters except hepatic lipid content (HLC). Furthermore, the meta-regression analysis showed that the optimum levels of bile acids as a feed additive were estimated to be 60–188.42, 989.42, 437.43–989.42, 3751.28–3946.59 mg/kg diet for low trophic-level freshwater fish, medium trophic-level freshwater fish, medium trophic-level marine fish, and high trophic-level marine fish, respectively. Therefore, bile acids is a promising growth-promoting and lipid-lowering feed supplement for sustainable aquaculture industry.

The study investigated the effects and mechanisms of clay content, emulsion water content, pH, and metal cations on clay-crude oil emulsions. The results indicate the following: 1) At a water content of 50 V/V%, montmorillonite can form emulsions with crude oil at different concentrations, with the highest stability observed at 5 wt% content. In contrast, chlorite, illite, and kaolinite cannot form emulsions at low concentrations. 2) Under acidic conditions, montmorillonite, illite, and chlorite cannot form emulsions with crude oil, or the emulsions are highly unstable. However, kaolinite forms more stable emulsions under acidic conditions. In alkaline environments, emulsions formed by all clay minerals exhibit increased stability. 3) The order of the effectiveness of different metal cations in reducing the stability of montmorillonite-crude oil emulsions is K+ > Na+ > Mg2+ > Ca2+, while for chlorite, illite, and kaolinite, it is Mg2+ > Ca2+ > K+ > Na+. 4) The factors that influence the stability of clay-crude oil emulsions are the arrangement of clay particles in water and the dispersion capability of clay particles in water. The most significant influencing factor is the arrangement of clay particles in water.

High-fat diet (HFD) has long been recognized as risk factors for the development and progression of ulcerative colitis (UC), but the exact mechanism remained elusive. Here, HFD increased intestinal deoxycholic acid (DCA) levels, and DCA further exacerbated colonic inflammation. Transcriptome analysis revealed that DCA triggered ferroptosis pathway in colitis mice. Mechanistically, DCA upregulated hypoxia-inducible factor-2α (HIF-2α) and divalent metal transporter-1 (DMT1) expression, causing the ferrous ions accumulation and ferroptosis in intestinal epithelial cells, which was reversed by ferroptosis inhibitor ferrostatin-1. DCA failed to promote colitis and ferroptosis in intestine-specific HIF-2α-null mice. Notably, byak-angelicin inhibited DCA-induced pro-inflammatory and pro-ferroptotic effects through blocking the up-regulation of HIF-2α by DCA. Moreover, fat intake was positively correlated with disease activity in UC patients consuming HFD, with ferroptosis being more pronounced. Collectively, our findings demonstrated that HFD exacerbated colonic inflammation by promoting DCA-mediated ferroptosis, providing new insights into diet-related bile acid dysregulation in UC.

Abstract Background The overgrowth of Desulfovibrio, an inflammation promoting flagellated bacteria, has been found in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients. However, the molecular mechanism in promoting colitis remains unestablished. Methods The relative abundance Desulfovibrio vulgaris (D. vulgaris) in stool samples of UC patients was detected. Mice were treated with dextran sulfate sodium to induce colitis with or without administration of D. vulgaris or D. vulgaris flagellin (DVF), and the severity of colitis and the leucine-rich repeat containing 19 (LRRC19) signaling were assessed. The interaction between DVF and LRRC19 was identified by surface plasmon resonance and intestinal organoid culture. Lrrc19 −/− and Tlr5 −/− mice were used to investigate the indispensable role of LRRC19. Finally, the blockade of DVF-LRRC19 interaction was selected through virtual screening and the efficacy in colitis was assessed. Results D. vulgaris was enriched in fecal samples of UC patients and was correlated with the disease severity. D. vulgaris or DVF treatment significantly exacerbated colitis in germ-free mice and conventional mice. Mechanistically, DVF could interact with LRRC19 (rather than TLR5) in colitis mice and organoids, and then induce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Lrrc19 knockdown blunted the severity of colitis. Furthermore, typhaneoside, a blockade of binding interfaces, blocked DVF-LRRC19 interaction and dramatically ameliorated DVF-induced colitis. Conclusions D. vulgaris could promote colitis through DVF-LRRC19 interaction. Targeting DVF-LRRC19 interaction might be a new therapeutic strategy for UC therapy. Video Abstract

Abstract Ferroptosis is a newly discovered form of cell death that is featured in a wide range of diseases. Exosome therapy is a promising therapeutic option that has attracted much attention due to its low immunogenicity, low toxicity, and ability to penetrate biological barriers. In addition, emerging evidence indicates that exosomes possess the ability to modulate the progression of diverse diseases by regulating ferroptosis in damaged cells. Hence, the mechanism by which cell-derived and noncellular-derived exosomes target ferroptosis in different diseases through the system Xc−/GSH/GPX4 axis, NAD(P)H/FSP1/CoQ10 axis, iron metabolism pathway and lipid metabolism pathway associated with ferroptosis, as well as its applications in liver disease, neurological diseases, lung injury, heart injury, cancer and other diseases, are summarized here. Additionally, the role of exosome-regulated ferroptosis as an emerging repair mechanism for damaged tissues and cells is also discussed, and this is expected to be a promising treatment direction for various diseases in the future. The Deaf are a large social group in society. Their unique way of communicating through sign language is often confined within their community due to limited understanding by individuals outside of this demographic. This is where sign language recognition (SLR) comes in to help people without hearing impairments understand the meaning of sign language. In recent years, new methods of sign language recognition have been developed and achieved good results, so it is necessary to make a summary. This review mainly focuses on the introduction of sign language recognition techniques based on algorithms especially in recent years, including the recognition models based on traditional methods and deep learning approaches, sign language datasets, challenges and future directions in SLR. To make the method structure clearer, this article explains and compares the basic principles of different methods from the perspectives of feature extraction and temporal modelling. We hope that this review will provide some reference and help for future research in sign language recognition.

The network-constrained flow is defined as the movement between two locations along road networks, such as the residence-workplace flow of city dwellers. Among flow patterns, clustering (i.e. the origins and destinations are aggregated simultaneously) is one of the cities’ most common and vital patterns, which assists in uncovering fundamental mobility trends. The existing methods for detecting the clustering pattern of network-constrained flows do not consider the impact of road network topology complexity on detection results. They may underestimate the flow clustering between networks of simple topology (roads with simpler shapes and fewer links, e.g. straight roads) but with high network intensity (i.e. flow number per network flow space), and determining the actual scale of an observed pattern remains challenging. This study develops a novel method, the length-squared L-function, to identify clustering patterns of network-constrained flows. We first use the L-function and its derivative to examine the clustering scales. Further, we calculate the local L-function to ascertain the locations of the clustering patterns. In synthetic and practical experiments, our method can identify flow clustering patterns of high intensities and reveal the residents’ main travel behavior trends with taxi OD flows, providing more reasonable suggestions for urban planning.

In the random sea environment, offshore platforms are influenced by factors such as wind, waves, and currents, as well as their interactions, leading to complex motion phenomena that affect the safety of offshore platform operations. Consequently, accurately predicting the motion response of offshore platforms has long been a key focus in the fields of naval architecture and ocean engineering. This paper utilizes STAR-CCM+ to simulate time-history data of offshore platform motion responses under both regular and irregular waves. Furthermore, a predictive model combining residual convolutional neural networks and long short-term memory neural networks using neural network technology is also studied. This model utilizes an autoregressive approach to predict the motion responses of offshore platforms, with its predictive accuracy validated through comprehensive evaluations. Under regular wave conditions, the coefficient of determination (R2) for the platform’s heave and pitch responses consistently exceeds 0.99. Meanwhile, under irregular wave conditions, the R2 values remain generally above 0.4. Additionally, the model exhibits commendable performance in terms of Mean Squared Error (MSE) and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) metrics. The aim of this study is to present a novel approach to predicting offshore platform motion responses, while providing a more scientific basis for decision-making in offshore platform operations.

Antioxidants are substances that have the ability to resist or delay oxidative damage. Antioxidants can be used not only for the diagnosis and prevention of vascular diseases, but also for food preservation and industrial production. However, due to the excessive use of antioxidants, it can cause environmental pollution and endanger human health. It can be seen that the development of antioxidant detection technology is important for environment/health maintenance. It is found that traditional detection methods, including high performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, etc., have shortcomings such as cumbersome operation and high cost. In contrast, the nanozyme-based detection method features advantages of low cost, simple operation, and rapidity, which has been widely used in the detection of various substances such as glucose and antioxidants. This article focuses on the latest research progress of nanozymes for antioxidant detection. Nanozymes for antioxidant detection are classified according to enzyme-like types. Different types of nanozyme-based sensing strategies and detection devices are summarized. Based on the summary and analysis, one can find that the development of commercial nanozyme-based devices for the practical detection of antioxidants is still challenging. Some emerging technologies (such as artificial intelligence) should be fully utilized to improve the detection sensitivity and accuracy. This article aims to emphasize the application prospects of nanozymes in antioxidant detection and to provide new ideas and inspiration for the development of detection methods.

This paper explores the challenges of finding robust shortest paths in multimodal transportation networks. With the increasing complexity and uncertainties in modern transportation systems, developing efficient and reliable routing strategies that can adapt to various disruptions and modal changes is essential. By incorporating practical constraints in parameter uncertainty, this paper establishes a robust shortest path mixed-integer programming model based on a multimodal transportation network under transportation time uncertainty. To solve robust shortest path problems with multimodal transportation, we propose a modified Dijkstra algorithm that integrates parameter uncertainty with multimodal transportation. The effectiveness of the proposed multimodal transportation shortest path algorithm is verified using empirical experiments on test sets of different scales and a comparison of the runtime using a commercial solver. The experimental results on the multimodal transportation networks demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in providing robust and efficient routing solutions. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can generate optimal solutions to the robust shortest path problem in multimodal transportation under time uncertainty and has practical significance.

BackgroundChannel selection has become the pivotal issue affecting the widespread application of non-invasive brain-computer interface systems in the real world. However, constructing suitable multi-objective problem models alongside effective search strategies stands out as a critical factor that impacts the performance of multi-objective channel selection algorithms. This paper presents a two-stage sparse multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (TS-MOEA) to address channel selection problems in brain-computer interface systems.MethodsIn TS-MOEA, a two-stage framework, which consists of the early and late stages, is adopted to prevent the algorithm from stagnating. Furthermore, The two stages concentrate on different multi-objective problem models, thereby balancing convergence and population diversity in TS-MOEA. Inspired by the sparsity of the correlation matrix of channels, a sparse initialization operator, which uses a domain-knowledge-based score assignment strategy for decision variables, is introduced to generate the initial population. Moreover, a Score-based mutation operator is utilized to enhance the search efficiency of TS-MOEA.ResultsThe performance of TS-MOEA and five other state-of-the-art multi-objective algorithms has been evaluated using a 62-channel EEG-based brain-computer interface system for fatigue detection tasks, and the results demonstrated the effectiveness of TS-MOEA.ConclusionThe proposed two-stage framework can help TS-MOEA escape stagnation and facilitate a balance between diversity and convergence. Integrating the sparsity of the correlation matrix of channels and the problem-domain knowledge can effectively reduce the computational complexity of TS-MOEA while enhancing its optimization efficiency.

Abstract A 71‐year‐old male developed anastomotic tumor bleeding after subtotal gastrectomy (Billroth II), and the surgery was refused due to coronary atherosclerotic heart disease. Endoscopic sclerotherapy (ES) in the treatment of esophagogastric variceal bleeding has been commonly reported, but few in non‐variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding. As far as we know, endoscopic sclerotherapy for malignant tumor hemorrhage has not been reported. Here a valuable case is presented: endoscopic sclerotherapy was performed on the anastomotic tumor bleeding, which is an effective try in a particular period.

Introduction To examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mortality, we estimated excess all-cause mortality in 24 countries for 2020 and 2021, overall and stratified by sex and age.Methods Total, age-specific and sex-specific weekly all-cause mortality was collected for 2015–2021 and excess mortality for 2020 and 2021 was calculated by comparing weekly 2020 and 2021 age-standardised mortality rates against expected mortality, estimated based on historical data (2015–2019), accounting for seasonality, and long-term and short-term trends. Age-specific weekly excess mortality was similarly calculated using crude mortality rates. The association of country and pandemic-related variables with excess mortality was investigated using simple and multilevel regression models.Results Excess cumulative mortality for both 2020 and 2021 was found in Austria, Brazil, Belgium, Cyprus, England and Wales, Estonia, France, Georgia, Greece, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mauritius, Northern Ireland, Norway, Peru, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, and the USA. Australia and Denmark experienced excess mortality only in 2021. Mauritius demonstrated a statistically significant decrease in all-cause mortality during both years. Weekly incidence of COVID-19 was significantly positively associated with excess mortality for both years, but the positive association was attenuated in 2021 as percentage of the population fully vaccinated increased. Stringency index of control measures was positively and negatively associated with excess mortality in 2020 and 2021, respectively.Conclusion This study provides evidence of substantial excess mortality in most countries investigated during the first 2 years of the pandemic and suggests that COVID-19 incidence, stringency of control measures and vaccination rates interacted in determining the magnitude of excess mortality.

Abstract Metal-organic framework (MOF) is a class of porous materials providing an excellent platform for engineering heterogeneous catalysis. We herein report the design of MOF Zr-PZDB consisting of Zr6-clusters and PZDB (PZDB = 4,4’-(phenazine-5,10-diyl)dibenzoate) linkers, which served as the heterogeneous donor catalyst for enhanced electron donor–acceptor (EDA) photoactivation. The high local concentration of dihydrophenazine active centers in Zr-PZDB can promote the EDA interaction, therefore resulting in superior catalytic performance over homogeneous counterparts. The crowded environment of Zr-PZDB can protect the dihydrophenazine active center from being attacked by radical species. Zr-PZDB efficiently catalyzes the Minisci-type reaction of N-heterocycles with a series of C-H coupling partners, including ethers, alcohols, non-activated alkanes, amides, and aldehydes. Zr-PZDB also enables the coupling reaction of aryl sulfonium salts with heterocycles. The catalytic activity of Zr-PZDB extends to late-stage functionalization of bioactive and drug molecules, including Nikethamide, Admiral, and Myristyl Nicotinate. Systematical spectroscopy study and analysis support the EDA interaction between Zr-PZDB and pyridinium salt or aryl sulfonium salt, respectively. Photoactivation of the MOF-based EDA adduct triggers an intra-complex single electron transfer from donor to acceptor, giving open-shell radical species for cross-coupling reactions. This research represents the first example of MOF-enabled heterogeneous EDA photoactivation.

Objectives The role of the distal tibiofibular ligament in the occurrence of high ankle sprain (HAS) has been widely studied. But previous studies have overlooked the physiological and anatomical differences between males and females and have not further refined gender. Therefore, the impact of the anatomical morphology of fibular notch (FN) on HAS in different genders is still unclear. This study aimed to explore the impact of different types of FN on the severity of HAS and to estimate the prognosis of patients with HAS while excluding anatomical differences caused by gender. Methods One hundred and eighty patients with HAS were included in this study as the experimental group (i.e., HAS group). Introduction: The perturbations of gut microbiota could interact with excessively activated immune responses and play key roles in the etiopathogenesis of ulcerative colitis (UC). Desulfovibrio, the most predominant sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) resided in the human gut, was observed to overgrow in patients with UC. The interactions between specific gut microbiota and drugs and their impacts on UC treatment have not been demonstrated well. Objectives: This study aimed to elucidate whether Desulfovibrio vulgaris (D. vulgaris, DSV) and its flagellin could activate nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptors (NLR) family of apoptosis inhibitory proteins (NAIP) / NLR family caspase activation and recruitment domain-containing protein 4 (NLRC4) inflammasome and promote colitis, and further evaluate the efficacy of eugeniin targeting the interaction interface of D. vulgaris flagellin (DVF) and NAIP to attenuate UC. Methods: The abundance of DSV and the occurrence of macrophage pyroptosis in human UC tissues were investigated. Colitis in mice was established by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) and gavaged with DSV or its purified flagellin. NAIP/NLRC4 inflammasome activation and macrophage pyroptosis were evaluated in vivo and in vitro. The effects of eugeniin on blocking the interaction of DVF and NAIP/NLRC4 and relieving colitis were also assessed. Results: The abundance of DSV increased in the feces of patients with UC and was found to be associated with disease activity. DSV and its flagellin facilitated DSS-induced colitis in mice. Mechanistically, RNA sequencing showed that gene expression associated with inflammasome complex and pyroptosis was upregulated after DVF treatment in macrophages. DVF was further demonstrated to induce significant macrophage pyroptosis in vitro, depending on NAIP/NLRC4 inflammasome activation. Furthermore, eugeniin was screened as an inhibitor of the interface between DVF and NAIP and successfully alleviated the proinflammatory effect of DVF in colitis. Conclusion: Targeting DVF-induced NAIP/NLRC4 inflammasome activation and macrophage pyroptosis ameliorates UC. This finding is of great significance for exploring the gut microbiota-host interactions in UC development and providing new insights for precise treatment.

The optimization of emergency logistical transportation is crucial for the timely dispatch of aid and support to affected areas. By incorporating practical constraints into emergency logistics, this study establishes a multi-objective shortest path mixed-integer programming model based on a multimodal transportation network. To solve multi-objective shortest path problems with multimodal transportation, we design an ideal point method and propose a procedure for constructing the complete Pareto frontier based on the k-shortest path multi-objective algorithm. We use modified Dijkstra and Floyd multimodal transportation shortest path algorithms to build a k-shortest path multi-objective algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed multimodal transportation shortest path algorithm is verified using empirical experiments carried out on test sets of different scales and a comparison of the runtime using a commercial solver. The results show that the modified Dijkstra algorithm has a runtime that is 100 times faster on average than the modified Floyd algorithm, which highlights its greater applicability in large-scale multimodal transportation networks, demonstrating that the proposed method both has practical significance and can generate satisfactory solutions to the multi-objective shortest path problem with multimodal transportation in the context of emergency logistics.

For probing the structure–property relationships of the polyurea elastomers, we synthesize the siloxane polyurea copolymer elastomer by using two aminopropyl-terminated polysiloxane monomers with low and high number-average molecular weight (Mn), i.e., L-30D and H-130D. To study the influence of the copolymer structures on the film properties, these films are analyzed to obtain the tensile performance, UV-vis spectra, cross-sectional topographies, and glass transition temperature (Tg). The two synthetic thermoplastic elastomer films are characterized by transparency, ductility, and the Tg of the hard domains, depending on the reacting compositions. Furthermore, the film elasticity behavior is studied by the strain recovery and cyclic tensile test, and then, the linear fitting of the tensile data is used to describe the film elasticity based on the Mooney–Rivlin model. Moreover, the temperature-dependent infrared (IR) spectra during heating and cooling are conducted to study the strength and recovery rate of the hydrogen bonding, respectively, and their influence on the film performance is further analyzed; the calculated Mn of the hard segment chains is correlated to the macroscopic recovery rate of the hydrogen bonding. These results can add deep insight to the structure–property relationships of the siloxane polyurea copolymer.

A symmetry mode analysis yields 47 symmetrically distinct patterns of octahedral tilting in hybrid organic–inorganic layered perovskites that adopt the n = 1 Ruddlesden–Popper (RP) structure. The crystal structures of compounds belonging to this family are compared with the predictions of the symmetry analysis. Approximately 88% of the 140 unique structures have symmetries that agree with those expected based on octahedral tilting alone, while the remaining compounds have additional structural features that further lower the symmetry, such as asymmetric packing of bulky organic cations, distortions of metal-centered octahedra or a shift of the inorganic layers that deviates from the a/2 + b/2 shift associated with the RP structure. The structures of real compounds are heterogeneously distributed amongst the various tilt systems, with only 9 of the 47 tilt systems represented. No examples of in-phase ψ-tilts about the a and/or b axes of the undistorted parent structure were found, while at the other extreme ∼66% of the known structures possess a combination of out-of-phase ϕ-tilts about the a and/or b axes and θ-tilts (rotations) about the c axis. The latter combination leads to favorable hydrogen bonding interactions that accommodate the chemically inequivalent halide ions within the inorganic layers. In some compounds, primarily those that contain either Pb2+ or Sn2+, favorable hydrogen bonding interactions can also be achieved by distortions of the octahedra in combination with θ-tilts.

The composition design of titanium alloys and some preparation processes require accurate diffusion kinetic databases. However, the current database of diffusion kinetics at high temperatures is not yet complete. In this work, the diffusion kinetics of five binary systems, Ti–Zr, Ti–Nb, Ti–Mo, Ti–Ta and Ti–W, were systematically investigated at 1300–1500 °C. The interdiffusion coefficients and impurity diffusion coefficients of the Ti-X binary systems were calculated according to the Den-Broeder and Hall methods. The results showed that the Ti–Nb, Ti–Mo, Ti–Ta and Ti–W exhibited strong concentration dependence of the diffusion coefficients at the temperature of 1300–1500 °C compared to the Ti–Zr system, which was considered as the domination of the difference in intrinsic properties between elements. Besides, the activation energies of diffusion were evaluated based on the Arrhenius relationship, where the Ti–Zr system exhibited the lowest activation energy among the five diffusion systems, followed by Ti–Nb, Ti–Mo, Ti–Ta and Ti–W systems. The diffusion kinetic data of titanium-based alloys at high temperatures were obtained in the present work, providing important references for the design, preparation and processing of new titanium alloys.

Abstract A severe voltage sag on the wind‐farm grid side with doubly fed induction generators (DFIGs) can induce a peak inrush current in the rotors and damage converters, resulting in wind‐turbine disconnection from the grid. To prevent this from happening, a variable‐step model predictive control (VS‐MPC) strategy is proposed for improving the wind turbines’ ability to operate without disconnecting themselves from the grid when a fault occurs. First, the predictive‐control state‐space model of a doubly fed wind farm is established according to its working principle. Second, model predictive control (MPC) is applied on the rotor side of the DFIG to realize the rapid tracking of the rotor current to the reference value during low‐voltage ride‐through (LVRT) of the DFIG. Finally, a variable‐step size algorithm is introduced into the MPC controller to change the step size continuously during the LVRT period. This increases the control accuracy, realizing rapid attenuation of each transient component, whereby the wind‐farm LVRT capability is enhanced. The proposed control strategy was simulated and verified using MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results indicated that VS‐MPC can effectively handle LVRT, allowing the recovery of a wind farm that uses DFIGs and improving the performance of wind‐farm.

ObjectiveTo systematically summarize current evidence and determine the clinical effectiveness and safety of Tai Chi for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in adults by conducting an overview of systematic reviews (SRs).MethodsA systematic search encompassing five electronic databases was conducted until July 30, 2023, to identify relevant systematic reviews (SRs) based on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) concerning Tai Chi for T2DM. The methodological quality of the included SRs was assessed using the A MeaSurement Tool to Assess systematic Reviews (AMSTAR 2) and the Risk of Bias in Systematic Reviews (ROBIS) tool. The Preferred Reporting Items for Overview of Systematic Review (PRIO-harms) checklist was used to promote a more balanced reporting of benefits and harms in this overview. Corrected covered area (CCA) was used to calculate the degree of overlapping primary studies. Primary outcome measures were glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and fasting blood glucose (FBG), while secondary outcomes encompassed health-related quality measures. The GRADE (Grades of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation) framework was utilized to assess the quality of evidence for the outcome measures.ResultsA total of 17 eligible SRs were included in this overview. One SR reported negative conclusions, while the remaining 16 reported positive ones on different outcomes. A total of 4 SRs reported adverse events, either absent or minor. Most of the SRs exhibited critically low quality (15/17) and a high risk of bias (14/17), as indicated by AMSTAR2 and ROBIS, respectively. The CCA was 12.14%, indicating a high degree of primary study overlapping. Evidence from 135 results for 24 outcomes concerning Tai Chi for T2DM was evaluated using the GRADE approach, most of which were rated very low.ConclusionTai Chi shows promise as a potentially effective and safe lifestyle intervention for adults with T2DM, particularly in improving HbA1c, FBG, BMI, and overall quality of life (QoL). However, these results should be cautiously interpreted due to methodological flaws observed in the current SRs and the low quality of the SRs based on GRADE. This study was performed to evaluate the feasibility of using citric acid (CA) as a feed supplement to improve phosphorus (P) utilization by juvenile hybrid sturgeon (19.75 ± 0.13 g). Four isophosphoric (1.00% total P) diets containing 0.5%, 1.0%, 2.0%, 4.0% CA were formulated (1.0% P-0.5% CA, 1.0% P-1% CA, 1.0% P-2% CA, 1.0% P-4% CA). A normal P (1.00% total P) diet and a high P (1.40% total P) diet without CA addition were designed as a negative control (1.0% P-0% CA) and a positive control (1.4% P-0% CA), respectively. A commercial diet (1.48% total P) was applied as a reference group (1.4% P-commercial). The seven diets were randomly allocated to 21 tanks with 15 fish per tank. The fish were hand fed to apparent satiation three meals daily for 8 weeks. The results manifested that significantly improved growth performance (final body weight, weight gain rate) and feed utilization (feed conversion ratio, protein efficiency ratio) were discovered in 1.0% P-0.5% CA group compared with two control groups. The P contents in dorsal muscle, vertebrae, and serum were significantly higher in 1.0% P-1% CA group compared with negative control. Additionally, the P retention rate in 1.0% P-0.5% CA and 1.0% P-1% CA groups were significantly higher than 1.4% P-0% CA group. Dietary addition of 0.5% and 1.0% CA significantly improved hardness of lateral scute compared with negative control. Compared with the negative control, the serum alkaline phosphatase activity was significantly improved by addition of 0.5% and 1.0% CA. Supplementation with 0.5% CA significantly elevated duodenal micromorphology (villi height, muscularis thickness, lamina propria width) compared with negative control. The duodenal type IIa sodium phosphate cotransporter (NaPi-IIa) mRNA level was significantly up-regulated by addition of 1.0% CA compared with two control groups. In a nutshell, CA could be a suitable feed supplement in sturgeon diet and dietary supplementation of 0.5% CA improved growth performance, feed utilization, P utilization efficiency, lateral scute hardness, and duodenal micromorphology.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of using seawater slurry ice (SI) as storage medium on Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) under 2 °C refrigerated storage. Meanwhile, traditional storage methods, such as crushed ice (CI) and cold storage (CS), were employed for comparison. The results showed that the SI storage inhibited microbial growth, retarded total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) and melanosis formation, and maintained appearance due to the anoxic, cold, and hyperhaline environment provided by seawater slurry ice. The microbiota analysis revealed that spoilage bacteria (Pseudoalteromonas) was inhibited, while Psychromonas replaced Pseudoalteromonas and Psychrobacter as the major spoilage bacteria at the 6th day of slurry ice storage. In addition, the slurry ice reduced the rate of K-value and maintained the umami taste of shrimp. This study demonstrated the advantages of slurry ice in shrimp preservation, and provided new insight of developing new strategy for aquatic product storage.

Steatosis is the hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its developing is closely associated with insulin resistance. Shortened sleep has adverse effects on hepatic steatosis and the underlying mechanism remains unknown. We conceived to evaluate whether sleep duration was a lifestyle factor modifying the association between insulin resistance and hepatic steatosis and whether it was varied in different status of metabolic disturbances. We performed a cross-sectional analysis on 2264 adults of United States representing a population of 138,319,512 with MetS or pre-MetS from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2017-March 2020. Participants underwent hepatic transient elastography and laboratory tests. The sleep duration was obtained from interviews. Results showed that insulin resistance was significantly associated with hepatic steatosis among participants with metabolic disturbances (OR = 1.85, 95% CI: 1.30–2.65). Significant moderation of sleep duration on the association between insulin resistance and hepatic steatosis was observed when sleep duration was dichotomized by 6.5- (P = 0.042) or 9.5-hour (P = 0.031). The risk of hepatic steatosis associated with insulin resistance was increased when sleep duration was ≤ 6.5 h and > 9.5 h. Furthermore, the moderation effect of 6.5-hour sleeping was only significant among participants with pre-MetS while that of 9.5-hour sleeping was only significant among participants with MetS. In conclusion, insufficient or excessive sleep increased the risk of hepatic steatosis associated with insulin resistance. Appropriate sleep duration was advocated and varied in different status of metabolic disturbances. Ensuring adequate sleep should be highlighted before MetS occurs and excessive sleep should be prevented for participants with MetS.

ABSTRACTThe epidemic of coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) has grown to be a global health threat. Gastrointestinal symptoms are thought to be common clinical manifestations apart from a series of originally found respiratory symptoms. The human gut harbors trillions of microorganisms that are indispensable for complex physiological processes and homeostasis. Growing evidence demonstrate that gut microbiota alteration is associated with COVID-19 progress and severity, and post-COVID-19 syndrome, characterized by decrease of anti-inflammatory bacteria like Bifidobacterium and Faecalibacterium and enrichment of inflammation-associated microbiota including Streptococcus and Actinomyces. Therapeutic strategies such as diet, probiotics/prebiotics, herb, and fecal microbiota transplantation have shown positive effects on relieving clinical symptoms. In this article, we provide and summarize the recent evidence about the gut microbiota and their metabolites alterations during and after COVID-19 infection and focus on potential therapeutic strategies targeting gut microbiota. Understanding the connections between intestinal microbiota and COVID-19 would provide new insights into COVID-19 management in the future.

A digital twin is recognized as a pivotal technology in a new type of power system monitoring as it provides an effective method for monitoring the vibration caused by ice shedding in overhead transmission lines. The digital twin model differs from traditional models in that it has the characteristics of precise mapping and real-time simulation. These emerging characteristics lead to urgent updating of the existing modeling approaches. Therefore, the current study proposes a dynamic digital twin modeling method for transmission line ice-shedding systems. In this approach, an analytical solution for conductor deicing oscillation is proposed to describe the span and tension unchanged in any time period and then segmented and iteratively corrected with measured time-varying parameters to implement real-time simulation functionality. A dynamic geometric model for transmission lines is proposed based on the Unity3D platform. In addition, a human-computer interaction visualization platform is proposed to display twin data, with the objective of realizing precise mapping of real transmission lines. Finally, an application of this systematic approach to continuous three-span wire demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

The Indian Summer Monsoon (ISM) can profoundly influence the summer precipitation patterns of the Tibetan Plateau (TP) and indirectly affect the TP’s soil humidity. This study investigates the responses of TP’s precipitation and soil moisture to the ISM in the monsoon season (June to September, JJAS) from 1979 to 2019. Precipitation in the TP and the ISM intensity generally exhibit a positive correlation in the west and a negative correlation in the east. The response of TP soil moisture to the ISM generally aligns with precipitation patterns, albeit with noted inconsistencies in certain TP regions. A region exhibiting these inconsistencies (30°–32°N, 80°–90°E) is selected as the study area, hereafter referred to as IRR. In periods of strong ISM, precipitation in IRR increases, yet soil moisture decreases. Conversely, in years with a weak ISM, the pattern is reversed. During strong ISM years, the rainfall increase in IRR is modest, and the soil remains drier compared to other TP regions. Under the combined effects of a marginal increase in precipitation and relatively rapid evaporation, soil moisture in the IRR decreased during years of strong ISM. During weak ISM years, the surface temperature in the IRR is higher compared to strong ISM years, potentially accelerating the melting of surface permafrost and snow in this region. Additionally, glacier meltwater, resulting from warmer temperatures in the northwest edge of the TP, may also result in the humidification of the soil in the IRR.

An accurate calculation of the indicator diagram of a pumping unit is the key factor in analyzing the performance of an oilfield production and operation and in preparing and optimizing an oilfield development plan. Aiming at the problems of the poor stability of the conventional load-displacement sensor method and the wave equation method, owing to the influence of an alternating load on the force sensor and the difficulty in measuring the crank angle using the electrical parameter method, a new soft sensing method employing the input electrical parameters of the motor and the beam inclination has been proposed to obtain the indicator diagram. At first, this method is established based on the beam angle of the pumping unit, which is easily measured using the suspension point displacement mathematics calculation model and the torque factor. Subsequently, the electric motor input parameters, the parameters of the four-bar linkage, and the relationship between the polished rod load have been established. Finally, the motor and the beam angle of the measured electrical parameters have been substituted into the calculation of the suspension point displacement and load value and pull in accordance with the guidelines to eliminate the singularity mutation values. After processing the measured data through a Butterworth filter, the indicator diagram is obtained. The results of the engineering experiment and application show that the average relative error of the method is less than 3.95%, and the maximum relative error remains within 2% for 6 months, which verifies the stability of the soft sensing method.

Summary: Cervical cancer remains a significant health issue in developing countries. However, finding a preclinical model that accurately reproduces tumor characteristics is challenging. Therefore, we established a patient-derived organoids (PDOs) biobank containing 67 cases of heterogeneous cervical cancer that mimic the histopathological and genomic characteristics of parental tumors. The in vitro response of the organoids indicated their ability to capture the radiological heterogeneity of the patients. To model individual responses to adoptive T cell therapy (ACT), we expanded tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) ex vivo and co-cultured them with paired organoids. The PDOs-TILs co-culture system demonstrates clear responses that correspond to established immunotherapy efficiency markers like the proportion of CTLs. This study supports the potential of the PDOs platform to guide treatment in prospective interventional trials in cervical cancer.

BackgroundFor non-invasive brain-computer interface systems (BCIs) with multiple electroencephalogram (EEG) channels, the key factor limiting their convenient application in the real world is how to perform reasonable channel selection while ensuring task accuracy, which can be modeled as a multi-objective optimization problem. Therefore, this paper proposed a two-objective problem model for the channel selection problem and introduced a domain knowledge-assisted multi-objective optimization algorithm (DK-MOEA) to solve the aforementioned problem.MethodsThe multi-objective optimization problem model was designed based on the channel connectivity matrix and comprises two objectives: one is the task accuracy and the other one can sensitively indicate the removal status of channels in BCIs. The proposed DK-MOEA adopted a two-space framework, consisting of the population space and the knowledge space. Furthermore, a knowledge-assisted update operator was introduced to enhance the search efficiency of the population space by leveraging the domain knowledge stored in the knowledge space.ResultsThe proposed two-objective problem model and DK-MOEA were tested on a fatigue detection task and four state-of-the-art multi-objective evolutionary algorithms were used for comparison. The experimental results indicated that the proposed algorithm achieved the best results among all the comparative algorithms for most cases by the Wilcoxon rank sum test at a significance level of 0.05. DK-MOEA was also compared with a version without the utilization of domain knowledge and the experimental results validated the effectiveness of the knowledge-assisted mutation operator. Moreover, the comparison between DK-MOEA and a traditional classification algorithm using all channels demonstrated that DK-MOEA can strike the balance between task accuracy and the number of selected channels.ConclusionThe formulated two-objective optimization model enabled the selection of a minimal number of channels without compromising classification accuracy. The utilization of domain knowledge improved the performance of DK-MOEA. By adopting the proposed two-objective problem model and DK-MOEA, a balance can be achieved between the number of the selected channels and the accuracy of the fatigue detection task. The methods proposed in this paper can reduce the complexity of subsequent data processing and enhance the convenience of practical applications.

Black phosphorus (BP) has attracted extensive attention due to its unique optical and electrical properties. However, BP is easily oxidized in the air, which significantly limits its application. In this study, BP is successful doped into sol-gel glass, it shows excellent chemical stability in atmospheric environment for five months. In addition, as a kind of inorganic matrix, optical damage threshold of BP-doped sol-gel glass reaches as high as 51.69 GW/cm2, which is six times higher than that of plastic polymer. Saturable absorption parameters of the BP are maintained after five months in the air. The BP-doped sol-gel glass is inserted into erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser to realize passively Q-switched and mode locked operation. Compared to most Q-switched EDF lasers based on broadband absorbers, the single pulse energy is one of the highest values (315.99 nJ). Overall, these data evidently provide a practical solution to stabilize BP in the air by embedding it in the silica, and also open the way for extensive applications of BP.

Crohn's disease (CD) is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with complex clinical manifestations such as chronic diarrhea, weight loss and hematochezia. Despite the increasing incidence worldwide, cure of CD remains extremely difficult. The rapid development of high-throughput sequencing technology with integrated-omics analyses in recent years has provided a new means for exploring the pathogenesis, mining the biomarkers and designing targeted personalized therapeutics of CD. Host genomics and epigenomics unveil heredity-related mechanisms of susceptible individuals, while microbiome and metabolomics map host-microbe interactions in CD patients. Proteomics shows great potential in searching for promising biomarkers. Nonetheless, single omics technology cannot holistically connect the mechanisms with heterogeneity of pathological behavior in CD. The rise of multi-omics analysis integrates genetic/epigenetic profiles with protein/microbial metabolite functionality, providing new hope for comprehensive and in-depth exploration of CD. Herein, we emphasized the different omics features and applications of CD and discussed the current research and limitations of multi-omics in CD. This review will update and deepen our understanding of CD from integration of broad omics spectra and will provide new evidence for targeted individualized therapeutics.

Abstract Background Accompanied by the decline of physiological functions, the decrease of physical activity, and comorbidities, older adults are susceptible to sarcopenia because of accelerated loss of muscle mass. Resistance training is recommended by different clinical practice guidelines. However, most older adults have difficulty in taking recommended high-load resistance training programs, and there are limited exercise options form them. Baduanjin, a traditional Chinese mind-body exercise with relatively low intensity and simple movements, has the potential benefits of improving physical functions and may be feasible in treating sarcopenia and preventing its adverse health outcomes in older patients. With the emergence of the concept of gut-muscle axis, this study aims to determine the efficacy of Baduanjin exercise on Chinese older adults with sarcopenia and explore its underlying mechanism. Methods This is a 24-week, assessor-blinded, randomized controlled trial. Individuals aged 60 to 84 years old will be screened for sarcopenia. 90 participants with sarcopenia will be enrolled and randomly assigned (1:1) into the Baduanjin exercise or resistance training group, and 20 participants without sarcopenia will be set as the non-sarcopenia control group. The primary outcome is the scores of Short Physical Performance Battery. The secondary outcomes are body composition, handgrip strength, walking speed, global cognitive function, and incidence of falls. These outcomes will be assessed at baseline, the 12th week and the 24th week. While stool samples from participants will be collected at baseline and the 24th week for analyzing the abundance of gut microbiome. Data will be analyzed in an intention-to-treat protocol. Discussion The results of this study will determine whether Baduanjin exercise can be an alternative non-pharmacological approach for older adults with sarcopenia. If they can show positive significance, it will promote Baduanjin exercise in clinical practice among these patients and inform further research involving exercise interventions on the optimal types, timing, and intensity to ameliorate sarcopenia for elderly people. BackgroundAutism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by deficits in social interaction, repetitive behavior and language impairment, and its worldwide prevalence has been found to be increasing annually in recent years. Till now, ASD is uncurable as its pathogenesis remains unknown. However, studies on both animals and humans have demonstrated that fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) may ameliorate the symptoms of ASD, as well as gastrointestinal symptoms. Nonetheless, there is still no agreement regarding the optimal dosage or duration of FMT treatment for individuals with ASD.MethodsThis clinical study is a double-blind, randomized, interventional trial conducted at a single center. The aim is to investigate the safety and efficacy of a pediatric formulation of FMT for ASD. A total of 42 children between the ages of 3–9 with ASD will be randomly assigned in a 2:1 ratio to either an FMT treatment group (n = 28) or a placebo group (n = 14), forming cohort 1. Additionally, 30 healthy children of similar age and gender will be recruited as the control group (cohort 2). Cohort 1 will be assessed using a variety of scales, including the Autism Behavior Checklist, Childhood Autism Rating Scale, Social Responsiveness Scale, Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale, Children’s Sleep Habits Questionnaire, and Psychoeducational Profile (Third Edition). These assessments will evaluate the effectiveness of FMT in reducing core symptoms and comorbidities (such as gastrointestinal symptoms and sleep disturbances) in children with ASD. The study will use metagenomic and metabolomic sequencing to assess changes in the composition and structure of the intestinal flora and its metabolites in blood, urine, and feces following treatment. Furthermore, the study will evaluate the acceptability of the FMT formulation by participants’ legal guardians and investigate differences in the intestinal flora and metabolism in the FMT group before and after treatment compared to 30 healthy children.Clinical trial registrationhttps://www.chictr.org.cn/, identifier ChiCTR2200058459.

Abstract Fluorescence imaging in the second near‐infrared II (NIR‐II) window is opening up new possibilities in bioimaging due to its low scattering rate within the tissue. The integration of 2D materials with NIR‐II fluorescence will enable the development of multifunctional imaging probes. However, there are very few 2D materials that can fluoresce in the NIR‐II range. Monolayer WSe2 is a potential 2D material, but its photoluminescence (PL) around 790 nm is still far from the NIR‐II range due to its bandgap of 1.54 eV. In this study, it is investigated the electronic structures, dielectric functions, and PL spectra for Te, I, and Cr‐doped monolayer WSe2, as well as W and S vacant monolayer WSe2. Most of the defected monolayer WSe2 remain semiconductors, except for a few configurations exhibiting metallic properties after making vacancies. Among the monolayer WSe2 under investigation, the Cr‐doped WSe2 performs the best, exhibiting a strong PL peak in NIR‐II with a decreased bandgap around 1.0 eV. As increasing Cr concentration, the peak shifts further toward the red end of the spectrum due to an enhancement of p–d transition. The results provide a useful guideline for material synthesis applied in NIR‐II bioimaging and other biophysics.

Generally, binary immiscible alloys have poor plasticity due to weak interfacial bonding. In this study, an amorphous interlayer was introduced between Mo and Cu phases in Mo-Cu alloys by using the high-temperature infiltration method. With the increase of infiltrated temperature from 1300 °C to 1450 °C, the thickness of the amorphous interlayer wad increased from 2 nm to 13 nm. The formation process, thermodynamic driving force, stability of the amorphous interlayer in Mo-Cu alloy, and its contribution to mechanical properties were systematically investigated. By using the “macroscopic atom approach” Miedema's model, the thermodynamic driving force and stability of the amorphous interlayer were proved. It was found that the thickening of the amorphous interlayer can significantly improve the interfacial bonding, thus leading to an increase in the tensile strength of the Mo-Cu alloy from 520 to 600 MPa and failure strain from 0.15 to 0.31 The deformation behavior of the Mo-Cu alloy shows that the amorphous interlayer can effectively absorb interfacial dislocations during deformation, and relieve the stress concentration at the interface by crystallization, thus delaying the initiation and propagation of cracks at phase boundaries, which broke through the limitation of the trade-off between strength and plasticity of such Mo-Cu immiscible materials.
