With the decline in the protective function for agricultural ecosystems of farmland shelterbelts due to tree withering and dying caused by pest and disease, quickly and accurately identifying the distribution of canopy damage is of great significance for forestry management departments to implement dynamic monitoring. This study focused on Populus bolleana and utilized an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) multispectral camera to acquire red–green–blue (RGB) images and multispectral images (MSIs), which were fused with a digital surface model (DSM) generated by UAV LiDAR for feature fusion to obtain DSM + RGB and DSM + MSI images, and random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), maximum likelihood classification (MLC), and a deep learning U-Net model were employed to build classification models for forest stand canopy recognition for the four image types. The model results indicate that the recognition performance of RF is superior to that of U-Net, and U-Net performs better overall than SVM and MLC. The classification accuracy of different feature fusion images shows a trend of DSM + MSI images (Kappa = 0.8656, OA = 91.55%) > MSI images > DSM + RGB images > RGB images. DSM + MSI images exhibit the highest producer’s accuracy for identifying healthy and withered canopies, with values of 95.91% and 91.15%, respectively, while RGB images show the lowest accuracy, with producer’s accuracy values of 79.3% and 78.91% for healthy and withered canopies, respectively. This study presents a method for identifying the distribution of Populus bolleana canopies damaged by Anoplophora glabripennis and healthy canopies using the feature fusion of multi-source remote sensing data, providing a valuable data reference for the precise monitoring and management of farmland shelterbelts.

Abstract To explore the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia with secondary pancytopenia. Here, a case of pancytopenia secondary to chronic lymphocytic leukemia is reported. Additionally, a review of relevant chronic lymphocytic leukemia literature was conducted to summarize its diagnosis, clinical characteristics, treatment history, and experience. After treatment with cyclosporine A, the patient's chronic lymphocytic leukemia continued to resolve, and hematopoiesis returned to normal. Cyclosporine A therapy resulted in improved patient outcomes. However, the mechanism by which cyclosporine A rebuilds the immune microenvironment and its antileukemia effect in the body remains to be studied.

As a viable substitute for bisphenol A (BPA), BPF has been widely used in the plastic industry and daily consumer goods, resulting in its detection in humans at a comparable concentration. Evidence reveals that BPF and BPA may have similar toxic effects due to their similar structures. However, there is less information about BPF and its latent implications on the immune system, which is associated with many disorders. In this study, the in vitro toxicity of BPF on RAW264.7 macrophages was explored. The cells were treated with different concentrations of BPF (5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 μM), the cell viability and apoptosis were detected, the gene expression profile was analyzed by whole-transcriptome sequencing, and the mRNA levels were detected by qRT-PCR. The results showed a high concentration of BPF could significantly reduce the survival rate of RAW264.7 macrophages. Although the medium concentration (20–50 μM) of BPF seemed to have no impact on the cell activity of macrophages, it caused the occurrence of apoptosis. The results of differential transcription showed that compared with the control group, 121 genes were upregulated and 82 genes were downregulated in the BPF group. The significantly changed gene functions were mainly concentrated in cell cycle, phagosome, lysosome, and antigen processing and presentation. These findings provide valuable information for correctly understanding the immunotoxicity risk of BPF and may help to improve the hazard identification of bisphenol compounds.

Obesity is one of the risk factors of metabolic diseases. Decreased sensitivity to insulin or impairment of the insulin signaling pathway may affect the metabolism of adipose tissue. Bisphenol F (BPF) has been widely used in various products as a substitute for bisphenol A (BPA). BPA has been defined as “obesogen”. However, knowledge about the correlation between BPF and obesity is very limited. This study was aimed to explore the effects of BPF on glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity in mammalian tissues, using a mouse 3T3-L1 adipocyte line as the model. Differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes were treated with BPF at various concentrations for 24 h or 48 h, followed by the measurement of cell viability, lipid accumulation, expression levels of adipocytokines, glucose consumption, and impairment of the insulin signaling pathway. The results indicated that BPF had no effect on the size of 3T3-L1 adipocytes, but the expression of leptin, adiponectin and apelin was decreased, while that of chemerin and resistin was increased after 48 h of BPF treatment. Moreover, BPF inhibited the glucose consumption, the expression of GLUT4, and its translocation to the plasma membranes in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Western blot analysis indicated that the activation of IRS-1/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway was inhibited by BPF, which resulted in reduced GLUT4 translocation. In conclusion, our data suggest that exposure of adipocytes to BPF may alter the expression of calorie metabolism-related adipokines and suppress insulin-stimulated glucose metabolism by impairing the insulin signaling (IRS-1/PI3K/AKT) pathway.

Abstract Background Forest soils are usually highly weathered and abundant in mineral-weathering bacteria, which have not been used to mobilize soil minerals for crop production. Here, we used an acidic forest soil with low available phosphorus (P), potassium (K), and silicon (Si) to isolate bacteria capable of co-solubilizing P, K, and Si (PKSi-solubilizing) and the model rice plant to test their potential to mobilize soil P, K, and Si for crop nutrition. Results Six PKSi-solubilizing strains representative of common mineral-weathering proteobacteria taxa (genera Burkholderia, Paraburkholderia, Collimonas, Pseudomonas, and Agrobacterium) were screened out. They showed diverse P-, K-, or Si-solubilizing activities and produced diverse organic acids. Their mineral-solubilizing activities were positively correlated with the levels of medium pH reduction and gluconic acid production. They promoted the growth of rice seedlings grown in the forest soil by increasing soil available P and Si, plant P, K, and Si cumulative contents and dry weight, and the corresponding root-to-shoot ratios. The growth of rice seedlings alone and with the inoculated PKSi-solubilizing stains in the acidic forest soil did not reduce the soil pH. Conclusions The forest soil with low available P, K, and Si is a valuable resource for high-performance PKSi-solubilizing bacteria improving soil fertility and crop nutrition. The PKSi-solubilizing bacteria screened out can promote rice seedling growth by mobilizing P, K, and Si from soil to plant in the acidic soil with low available P, K, and Si. They show potentials to mitigate soil P, K, and Si deficiency and promote crop growth, and to recover soluble P, K, and Si from chemical fertilizers and improve the use efficiency of chemical fertilizers, thus reducing the input of chemical fertilizers. They may retard soil acidification by Si-solubilization and improve soil quality. Graphical Abstract

Pectobacterium cacticida (formerly Erwinia cacticida) causes soft rot disease of cactus plants. Its taxonomic status within the genus Pectobacterium remains questionable because no whole genome sequence of this species is available in public databases for reliable taxonomic analyses. Here, we present the complete genome sequence of the P. cacticida type strain CFCC 10813T (=1-12T = ATCC 49481T). P. cacticida can be classified into the genus Pectobacterium because it is on the deepest basal phylogenomic branch of the genus Pectobacterium, and its genome relatedness to other Pectobacterium species is at the border for the genus delimitation boundaries. This complete genome sequence provides the genome resource for elucidating P. cacticida pathogenicity and adaptation to plant hosts and environments. PurposeThere is a strong link between occupation and self-rated health. Existing research has revealed the effects of occupation on self-rated health outcomes and the corresponding mechanisms. However, there is a lack of research on the effects of state services on self-rated health in China. Therefore, this study focuses on exploring the effects of serving as a state functionary in China on self-rated health to enrich research in related fields.MethodBased on the data of 14,138 individuals collected from the 2016 China Labour-Force Dynamics Survey, the logit model was used to investigate the effects of serving as a state functionary on self-rated health and the difference in the effects across different populations.ResultsThe results show that (1) serving as a state functionary has a significant positive effect on self-rated health; (2) self-rated health of elderly state functionaries is higher than that of younger state functionaries; (3) self-rated health of state functionaries in non-eastern regions is higher than that of state functionaries in eastern regions; and (4) state functionaries with lower education have higher self-rated health than highly-educated state functionaries; (5) Higher self-rated health of state functionaries is achieved primarily through better work time, better work environment and lower relative deprivation.ConclusionServing as a state functionary in China has a significant positive correlation with self-rated health, with differences across populations of state functionaries. This study expands the current literature on the effects of occupation on self-rated health in the context of China.

BackgroundPolitical participation is an important component of civil rights. Several studies have shown that citizens' political participation not only influences the allocation of public resources, but also has a positive correlation with participants' life satisfaction. Recently, political participation has become increasingly frequent in China; however, the research on Chinese citizens' political participation and life satisfaction is insufficient. Therefore, this study examined the relationship between political participation and life satisfaction in the Chinese cultural context, and how this relationship varied under different conditions.MethodsBased on 8,475 respondents from the 2015 Chinese Social Survey, ordinary least squares modeling was used to investigate the relationship of Chinese citizens' political participation and their life satisfaction, and the differences that might exist in this relationship.ResultsPolitical participation was closely related to life satisfaction. Compared with non-political participants, the life satisfaction of political participants was 0.133 units higher, which was significant at the 1% level. Regarding the types of political participation, citizens engaged in institutionalized political participation had higher life satisfaction, whereas citizens engaged in non-institutionalized political participation had lower life satisfaction. Furthermore, two social capitals, namely social tolerance and social trust, were the mediating variables linking political participation to citizens' life satisfaction.ConclusionsIn China, citizens engaged in political participation had higher life satisfaction, in contrast, citizens engaged in non-institutionalized political participation had lower life satisfaction.

Studies have shown that political participation does not only affect the flow of public resources but also creates positive feedback on participants’ subjective perceptions. However, research on the relationship between political participation and the life satisfaction of Chinese urban residents is relatively scarce. Thus, this study investigates whether political participation helps improve the life satisfaction of Chinese urban residents. Based on 2577 samples of the 2015 Chinese Social Survey this study used the Ordinary least squares model, instrumental variable model, and propensity score matching model to explore the relationship between political participation and the life satisfaction of Chinese urban residents. The empirical results show that political participation can significantly improve the life satisfaction of urban residents. Compared with urban residents without political participation, the life satisfaction of the political participants was 0.145 units higher at a 0.05 level of significance. In addition, this improved effect varied in degree among different groups of urban residents and was more significant for females, members of the Communist Party of China, highly educated, and employed urban residents. In China, there is a significant relationship between political participation and the life satisfaction of urban residents, with the life satisfaction of urban residents improving significantly through political participation. There are differences in the level of this improved effect among different urban residents, and it is more significant for females, highly educated, members of the Communist Party, and employed urban residents. To improve the life satisfaction of Chinese urban residents, it is necessary to further broaden their political participation channels.
