2. Metabolic Flux Analysis Reveals the Roles of Stearate and Oleate on CPT1C-mediated Tumor Cell Senescence

Abstract

Cellular senescence is a state of proliferative arrest, and the development of carcinoma can be suppressed by conferring tumor cell senescence. Recently, we found that carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1C (CPT1C) controls tumor cell proliferation and senescence via regulating lipid metabolism and mitochondrial function. Here, 13C-metabolic flux analysis (13C-MFA) was performed and the results revealed that CPT1C knockdown in MDA-MB-231 cells significantly induced cellular senescence accompanied by altered fatty acid metabolism. Strikingly, stearate synthesis was decreased while oleate was increased. Furthermore, stearate significantly inhibited proliferation while oleate reversed the senescent phenotype induced by silencing CPT1C in MDA-MB-231 cells as well as PANC-1 cells. A939572, an inhibitor of stearoyl-Coenzyme A desaturase 1, had the same effect as stearate to inhibit cellular proliferation. These results demonstrated that stearate and oleate are involved in CPT1C-mediated tumor cellular senescence, and the regulation of stearate/oleate rate via inhibition of SCD-1 could be an additional strategy with depletion of CPT1C for cancer therapy.

16. Potential Application of 2D Haeckelite MoS2as an Anode Material for Mg Ion Batteries

Abstract

The design and preparation of anode materials with structural stability, fast ion transmission, and low open-circuit voltage are critical to the development of magnesium ion batteries (MIBs). The feasibility of the unique phase Haeckelite MoS2(Hae-MoS2) monolayer with Haeckelite structure as a potential anode material for MIBs was investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The Hae-MoS2monolayer exhibits excellent structural stability and semimetallic characteristics with a Dirac cone located at the Gamma point of band structure. Mg ion is easily adsorbed on the Hae-MoS2monolayer surface with an adsorption energy of −2.06 eV and can diffuse rapidly with a low diffusion energy barrier (0.3 eV), indicating excellent charge and discharge rates. Most importantly, the Hae-MoS2monolayer exhibits a suitable open-circuit voltage, which falls within the desired voltage range and ensures the safety of battery performance. These exceptional properties indicate that the Hae-MoS2monolayer can be proposed as a candidate for anode material for MIBs.

Abstract

Apoptosis plays a critical role in sea cucumber autolysis. To investigate the ultraviolet (UV)-induced apoptosis, sea cucumbers with and without injection of BAPTA-AM (cytosolic calcium chelator) were exposed to UV (15 W/m2) for 30 min. The results showed that UV irradiation caused several changes in sea cucumber coelomocytes, including calcium imbalance, abnormal morphology of endoplasmic reticulum, upregulation of pro-apoptotic proteins CRT, CHOP, and caspases 9 and 3, and downregulation of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2. A comparison between the two groups showed that injection of the calcium chelator into sea cucumbers helped maintain coelomocyte intracellular calcium homeostasis and suppressed other abnormal changes caused by ER stress, indicating apoptosis in sea cucumbers is mediated by calcium imbalance and follows the activation of the ER stress pathway. Therefore, this study broadens understanding of the apoptotic mechanism involved in sea cucumber autolysis, which is helpful in developing preservative agents for sea cucumbers.

Abstract

This paper proposes a novel method of performance assessment for load control system of thermal power unit. Load control system is the most important multivariable control system. It is necessary to monitor and evaluate the performance of it. The performance evaluation index system based on covariance is defined, and the performance evaluation rules are given. In MATLAB, the double input and double output object model of the load control system is established, and the dynamic characteristics of the load control system are analyzed under the BF and TF mode. The simulation data, which is based on the parameters retuning, is used as the “benchmark data”, and the simulation data of different controllers are collected as “monitoring data”. For most of the time, the thermal power plant is under the coordinated control mode, and the principle and strategy of the two coordinated control are analyzed, and the engineering realization scheme is given. Operation data in different time periods of two different thermal power plants was acquisition and preprocessing respectively. The principle of selecting “benchmark data” is the minimum of pressure parameter. Two data segments were selected as “benchmark data”, performance assessment and analysis was carried on the data from other time periods. The results show that the validity and reliability of the method based on the evaluation index. In short, the data of the simulation and the load control system of power plant are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method.

32. Effect of moisture distribution in pore structure on fragmentation characteristics of lignite

Abstract

A study is presented of the influence of moisture on fragmentation of three Chinese lignite samples – Mengdong, Xiao Longtan and Zhaotong lignites – with particle size of 13-10 mm using a fixed-bed reactor at 200 degrees C. The results indicate that, as the initial moisture content increases, the fragmentation ratio and pulverisation ratio increase whereas the particle size variation ratio decreases, and that there is little change in the extent of fragmentation while the initial moisture content is below 0.24 g/g coal. The moisture distribution in lignite macro-, meso- and micro-pores determined by transverse relaxation time (T2) measurements using proton (1H) nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, the relationship between distribution of moisture content in the pores and the fragmentation ratio, pulverisation ratio and particle size variation ratio, and a possible fragmentation process of lignite for different moisture contents are discussed. The moisture is found to be principally concentrated in the macropores and mesopores for raw coal and dried lignite under different residence times. A good connectivity between macro- and meso-pores is observed for the Xiao Longtan and Zhaotong lignites. 37. Amino acid modified Ti3C2Txas electron transport layers for high-performance organic solar cells

Abstract

The Ti3C2Tx, as a typical representative of the MXene family, has attracted much attention due to excellent properties in terms of transmittance, conductivity, tunable work function (WF), and low temperature solution processability. However, the work function that needs to be adjusted and a large number of crystal defects in Ti3C2Txgreatly restrict its use in electronic devices. Herein, Ti3C2Txis modified with amino acids to modulate WF of Ti3C2Txand passivate its defect sites, thereby improving the electrical properties of Ti3C2Txand enhancing the performance of organic solar cells (OSCs). Amino acids interact with Ti3C2Txby charge transfer and forming a surface dipole on the surface, which reduces the WF of Ti3C2Tx. Moreover, -NH2of amino acids passivates the negatively charged Ti vacancies in Ti3C2Tx, while -COOH of amino acids passivates the positively charged C vacancies, increasing the conductivity of Ti3C2Tx. Consequently, the OSCs with amino acid-modified Ti3C2Tx-based as new electron transport layer (ETL) exhibit more than 18% of power conversion efficiency (PCE) and good device stability. The work shows OSCs with high performance can be fabricated by using environmental-friendly amino acids, which inspires researchers to seek ideas for fabricating efficient devices from natural materials.

Lignite particles 6-25 mm in size were dried at temperatures of 100, 140 and 180 degrees C and their fragmentation indices and pulverisation ratios determined, the former increasing almost tenfold with increased temperature and particle size whereas the latter increased slightly with temperature but decreased with particle size. The increase in both cases was initially rapid but became slower with drying time; the fragmentation index was linearly related to moisture loss. Abstract

We developed glycosyl N -( para -methoxyphenylpropargyl) pyrrole-2-carboxylates (PPPCs) as highly effective donors for chemical glycosylation. The modular design and exceptional stability of the acid precursor provide PPPC donors with synthetic versatility and ease of use. Activated by NIS/TMSOTf, PPPC donors exhibit a broad compatibility for both O - and N -glycosylation reactions. Their distinct reactivity gradient enables streamlined one-pot syntheses, complementing thioglycosides and imidates. These features position PPPC donors as promising tools for advancing carbohydrate chemistry.

41. Synthesis of urchin-like NiCo 2 S 4 electrode materials based on a two-step hydrothermal method for high-capacitance supercapacitors.

Abstract

Transition metal sulfides have been considered as promising electrode materials for future super-capacitors due to their spinel structures and environmentally friendly properties. Among these materials, NiCo 2 S 4 compounds exhibit high theoretical specific capacity but poor cycling performance. To address this issue, we synthesize several NiCo 2 S 4 urchin balls. The NCS-1.5 nanospheres demonstrate a specific capacitance of 1352.2 F g -1 at a current density of 1 A g -1 , and maintain high specific capacity after 10 000 charge-discharge cycles. An asymmetric capacitor assembled with the NCS-1.5 sample as the cathode and activated carbon as the anode achieve an energy density of 45.5 W h kg -1 at 2025 W kg -1 .
