Abstract

Anomalous Hall effect (AHE) emerged in antiferromagnetic metals shows intriguing physics and application potential. In contrast to certain noncollinear antiferromagnets, rutile RuO$_2$ has been proposed recently to exhibit a crystal-assisted AHE with collinear antiferromagnetism. However, in RuO$_2$, the on-site magnetic moment accompanying itinerant 4d electrons is quite small, and more importantly, the AHE at zero external field is prohibited by symmetry because of the high-symmetry [001] direction of the N\'eel vector. Here, we show the AHE at zero field in the collinear antiferromagnet, Cr-doped RuO$_2$. The appropriate doping of Cr at Ru sites results in a rotation of the N\'eel vector from [001] to [110] and enhancement of the on-site magnetic moment by one order of magnitude while maintaining a metallic state with the collinear antiferromagnetism. The AHE with vanishing net moment in the Ru$_{0.8}$Cr$_{0.2}$O$_2$ exhibits an orientation dependence consistent with the [110]-oriented N\'eel vector. These results open a new avenue to manipulate AHE in antiferromagnetic metals.

Abstract

In order to optimize the problems of low efficiency and complex equipment in the preparation of nickel-63 radioactive sources using traditional electrodeposition processes. A high-efficiency process for preparing nickel-63 radiation sources has been developed using nickel chloride (Ni-63) as raw material, nickel as substrate, and hanging plating process. The effects of pH value of electroplating solution, electroplating temperature, electroplating time, and electroplating current density on the quality of nickel-63 radioactive source products were studied. Under the conditions of nickel chloride (Ni-63) concentration of 7 g/L, pH value 1-3, electroplating temperature at room temperature, electroplating time of 180 seconds, and current density of 6.5 mA/cm2, qualified nickel-63 radiation source products were efficiently prepared. The results show that compared with traditional electrodeposition processes, this process breaks the limitations of electroplating tank design and overcomes the complex design of electroplating equipment in traditional electrodeposition processes. It can flexibly design the shape of the active zone of the radioactive source, solve the problem of frequent disassembly of electroplating equipment in the production process, and improves the production efficiency.

Abstract

Introduction: For patients with large unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the effectiveness of conventional transarterial chemoembolization (cTACE) remains suboptimal. This study investigated the efficacy and safety of modified TACE using low-dose chemotherapy with blank microspheres (BMS-TACE) plus low-dose lenvatinib (LD-LEN) and microwave ablation (MWA) in patients with large unresectable HCC. Methods: In this prospective, single-arm, phase 2 study, patients with unresectable HCC exceeding the up-to-seven criteria, with maximum tumor diameter ≥7 cm, and without macrovascular invasion or extrahepatic metastases, received initial BMS-TACE (lipiodol, low-dose doxorubicin, and lobaplatin up to 30 mg each, and blank microspheres; subsequently modified and repeated in most patients) plus LD-LEN (4–8 mg/day) and MWA. The primary endpoint was downstaging rate (DSR); secondary endpoints were objective response rate (ORR), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and adverse events. Results: From November 2019 to March 2022, 43 patients were enrolled. Median follow-up was 21.2 months. Median largest tumor diameter was 11.2 cm (interquartile range [IQR], 7–25). Following BMS-TACE and LD-LEN, downstaging occurred in 37 (86.0%) patients, 32 of whom received MWA, and 8 of whom had a complete response (CR) without MWA. ORR was 93.0% (CR in 32 [74.4%] and partial response in 8 [18.6%] patients). The 1-, 2-, and 3-year PFS rates were 57.5%, 25.9%, and 18.1%, respectively (median PFS, 14.7 months [95% CI: 8.1–19.5]). The 1-, 2-, and 3-year OS rates were 85.8%, 67.7%, and 61.6%, respectively (median OS, 36.4 months [95% CI: 26.8-not reached]). After BMS-TACE, a significant decline in CD11b+/CD33+/HLA-DR- myeloid-derived suppressor cells and early elevation in CXCR5+/CD8+ and CXCR5+/CD4+ T cells were observed (both p < 0.05). Conclusion: BMS-TACE plus LD-LEN and MWA resulted in promising efficacy and tolerable toxicity in patients with large unresectable HCC exceeding the up-to-seven criteria with a maximum tumor diameter ≥7 cm and without macrovascular invasion or extrahepatic metastases.

Abstract

Berry curvature plays a crucial role in exotic electronic states of quantum materials, such as intrinsic anomalous Hall effect. As Berry curvature is highly sensitive to subtle changes of electronic band structures, it can be finely tuned via external stimulus. Here, we demonstrate in SrRuO3 thin films that both the magnitude and sign of anomalous Hall resistivity can be effectively controlled with epitaxial strain. Our first-principles calculations reveal that epitaxial strain induces an additional crystal field splitting and changes the order of Ru d orbital energies, which alters the Berry curvature and leads to the sign and magnitude change of anomalous Hall conductivity. Furthermore, we show that the rotation of Ru magnetic moment in real space of tensile strained sample can result in an exotic nonmonotonic change of anomalous Hall resistivity with the sweeping of magnetic field, resembling the topological Hall effect observed in non-coplanar spin systems. These findings not only deepen our understanding of anomalous Hall effect in SrRuO3 systems, but also provide an effective tuning knob to manipulate Berry curvature and related physical properties in a wide range of quantum materials.
