Objective: This review aims to elucidate the link between Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and periodontal disease (PD) and to substantiate whether the autoimmune mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of HT influence the integrity of oral tissues, eventually inducing the development of PD. Methods: The present article is a narrative review that has been composed conforming to the Scale for the Assessment of Narrative Review Articles (SANRA) guidelines on the topic 'Association between HT and PD'. Results: Eight studies, including four case–control studies, one cross-sectional study, two case reports, and one bidirectional Mendelian randomization study, were cited. These studies were filtered by language (all in English) and relevance to the topic and were sourced from the Google Scholar and PubMed databases. The results suggest a potential link between HT and PD, indicating that HT may have a direct impact on oral tissues. The frequency of thyrotoxicosis may vary between countries and some laboratory test results may be used in etiology research. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of thyrotoxicosis diagnoses and laboratory test results.

Abstract Background Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) patients are more likely than the general population to suffer from thyroid illness. The major goal was to assess the thyroid dysfunctions due to immunological factors in Egyptian SLE children and how they are related to the course and severity of the illness. Methods Fifty children and adolescents with SLE are included in this cross-sectional observational study. Every patient underwent a thorough physical examination and a comprehensive history taking. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) approach was used to evaluate the thyroid profile, anti-thyroglobulin (Anti-TG), and anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) antibodies. Results Of the 50 patients, the female: male ratio (F: M = 7:1) was 44 females and 6 males (12%). They were between the ages of 5 and 17. Out of the patients, thirty-two (64%) had thyroid dysfunctions, 19 (38%) had euthyroid sick syndrome, ten (20%) had overt hypothyroidism, three (6%) had subclinical hypothyroidism, and none had hyperthyroidism. Of the 50 patients, one (2%) had increased anti-TPO, whereas all other patients had normal anti-TG levels. A statistically significant negative correlation (p-value 0.007) was seen between the disease duration and free thyroxine (FT4). Furthermore, a significant negative correlation (p-values 0.015 and 0.028) was found when comparing the disease duration with thyroid antibodies (anti-TG and anti-TPO). Conclusion In Juvenile Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (JSLE), thyroid dysfunctions can be identified. The disease duration but not its activity was significantly correlated with thyroid antibodies. For children with JSLE, thyroid function testing should be done on a regular basis. It is preferable to carry out additional thyroid antibody tests when necessary.

Background/Objectives: Thyroid autoimmunity (TAI) affects about 15% of women of reproductive age and can negatively affect pregnancy outcomes. One possible mechanism for pregnancy complications can be attributed to a disturbed process of placentation caused by thyroid antibodies. To test this hypothesis, placental hormones and angiogenic factors in pregnant women with TAI were evaluated. Methods: Fifty-eight hypothyroid women positive for TPOAb/TgAb, thirty-three hypothyroid women negative for TPOAb/TgAb, and thirty-nine healthy controls were enrolled in this study. Maternal thyroid function tests were established every month throughout pregnancy, and angiogenic placental factors, pro-angiogenic placental growth factor (PlGF); two anti-angiogenic factors, soluble vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 (sFlt-1) and soluble endoglin (sEng); and placental hormones, estradiol, progesterone, and hCG, were determined during each trimester. Results: Obstetrical and neonatal outcomes did not differ between the groups. However, several detrimental effects of thyroid antibodies were observed. These included a positive correlation between TgAb and the sEng/PlGF ratio in the first trimester and positive correlations between TPOAb and sFlt-1 and between TgAb and the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio in the third trimester. TgAbs in the first trimester was a risk factor for gestational hypertension and preeclampsia. Conclusions: Our study indicates that TPOAbs and TgAbs can exert a direct harmful effect on placentation, leading to disturbances in the production of placental angiogenic factors and, consequently, to an increased risk of gestational hypertension and preeclampsia. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the associations of thyroid autoimmunity (TAI) with the number of oocytes retrieved (NOR), fertilization rate (FR), and embryo quality (EQ) in euthyroid women with infertility and diminished ovarian reserve (DOR). Methods: This retrospective cohort study involved 1,172 euthyroid women aged 20-40 years with infertility and DOR who underwent an oocyte retrieval cycle. TAI was diagnosed in the presence of serum thyroperoxidase antibody (TPOAb) concentrations higher than 34 IU/ml and/or serum thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) concentrations exceeding 115.0 IU/ml. Among these women, 147 patients with TAI were classified as the TAI-positive group, while 1,025 patients without TAI were classified as the TAI-negative group. Using generalized linear models (GLMs) adjusted for confounding factors, we evaluated the associations of TAI and the serum TPOAb and TgAb concentrations and NOR, FR, and EQ in this study's subjects. The TPOAb and TGAb values were subjected to log10 transformation to reduce skewness. Logistic regression models were used to estimate the effects of TPOAb and TgAb concentrations on the probabilities of achieving a high NOR (=7) and high FR (>60%). Results: For the whole study population, women with TAI had a significantly lower NOR and poorer EQ than women without TAI (P < 0.001 for both). Interestingly, in the TSH ≤2.5 subgroup, the TAI-positive group also had a significantly lower NOR and poorer EQ than the TAI-negative group (P < 0.001 for both). Furthermore, negative associations were observed between log10 (TPOAb) concentrations and NOR and the number of high-quality embryos and available embryos (P < 0.05 for all). The log10(TgAb) concentrations were inversely associated with NOR and the number of high-quality embryos (P < 0.05 for all). In the regression analysis, the log10(TPOAb) concentrations had lower probabilities of achieving a high NOR [adjusted odds ratio (aOR): 0.56; 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 0.37, 0.85; P = 0.007]. Conclusions: TAI and higher TPOAb and TgAb concentrations were shown to be associated with reductions in the NOR and EQ in the study population. BackgroundThyrotropin (TSH)-secreting pituitary neuroendocrine tumors (PitNETs) are recognized as a rare disease. Mixed TSH PitNETs account for 20–25% of TSH PitNETs. This study aimed to report an extremely rare case of a mixed TSH PitNET coexisting with Graves' disease (GD) and also to review the literature.Case presentationA 36-year-old male patient presented with elevated levels of free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) but a non-suppressed thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) level. His anti-thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb), anti-thyroid peroxidase autoantibody (TPOAb), and thyrotropin receptor antibody (TRAb) tests were positive. Symptoms of palpitations, hyperhidrosis, heat intolerance, and irritability appeared 2 years before his admission. However, he showed neither any signs nor any symptoms of acromegaly. The contrast-enhanced pituitary magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed enlargement of the pituitary fossa, with an irregular abnormal signal mass. The patient underwent endoscopic pituitary tumor resection via a transsphenoidal approach. The postoperative pathology suggested a mixed pituitary adenoma. At 8 months after the surgery, the patient had a postoperative recurrence of hyperthyroidism, and methimazole (MMI) was then administered. The recurrence of the TSH PitNET was confirmed by the positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT), which was performed 11 months after the surgery, and treatment with lanreotide was initiated. Gradually, his levels of FT3, FT4, TSH, TPOAb, and TgAb became normal and the levels of TRAb and IGF-1 improved.ConclusionWhen the circulating levels of both FT4 and FT3 were upregulated, non-suppressed TSH levels and positive thyroid antibodies were found. TSH PitNETs coexisting with GD should be carefully taken into account to avoid the potential risk of treatment-induced tumor progression.

Autoimmunity seems to be present in a large proportion of women with spontaneous premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). Whether these women are at increased risk for autoimmune disease has not been determined to date. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate a large series of antibodies in order to shed more light into the autoimmune risk of POI women. In a prospective case–control study, blood samples from 66 patients with spontaneous POI and 66 healthy controls were analyzed for a series of autoimmune antibodies. POI women revealed significantly increased thyroglobulin antibodies (TGAb) (p = 0.045) and thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) (p = 0.002). At least one abnormal autoimmune parameter was present in 37.9% of POI women, compared to 18.2% in healthy controls (p = 0.045). A strong association between POI and increased TGAb (adjusted odds ratio 3.586, p = 0.028), increased TPOAb (adjusted odds ratio 7.496, p = 0.003) and any increased autoimmune parameter (adjusted odds ratio 3.189, p = 0.008) could be demonstrated in a binary logistic regression model. A high prevalence of autoimmunity in POI women compared to a healthy young collective could be demonstrated. Thyroid antibodies were significantly increased in POI women. Purpose: Subacute thyroiditis (SAT) is a transient inflammatory disorder of the thyroid gland with a possible viral etiology. We conducted this study to estimate the pooled prevalence of thyroid autoantibodies in SAT patients. This question arose due to the varying reports on the positivity rates of thyroid autoantibodies among SAT patients. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science from their inception until March 25th, 2023. Observational studies reporting the positivity rate of thyroid autoantibodies for more than ten patients were included. We used the Joanna Briggs Institute's (JBI) critical appraisal checklist to assess the quality of the included studies. Pooled prevalence estimates with 95% confidence intervals were calculated using the random effects model. Subgroup analyses were performed to find sources of heterogeneity. Results: Out of 1373 identified records, 32 studies involving 2348 SAT patients were included in our study. Thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) and thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) were positive in 22.8% and 12.2% of patients, respectively. The Study design, mean erythrocyte sedimentation rate and mean thyroid-stimulating hormone of patients were identified as sources of heterogeneity. As our secondary objectives, we found a recurrence rate of 14.7% and permanent hypothyroidism in 11.6% of patients. Conclusion: The results of our study revealed a low TPOAb positivity rate in SAT patients, consistent with its non-autoimmune etiology. The TgAb positivity rate in SAT patients was higher than that of the general population, possibly explained by the transient release of thyroglobulin into the bloodstream during the thyrotoxic phase, leading to subsequent TgAb production. Furthermore, our findings demonstrate a notable recurrence rate and permanent hypothyroidism among SAT patients, highlighting the importance of ongoing follow-up care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Graves' disease is the most common cause of thyrotoxicosis and is characterized by ophthalmopathy with proptosis, chemosis, or conjunctival injection; pretibial myxedema; and thyroid acropachy. It is an autoimmune disease that can be genetic or influenced by coexisting environmental factors such as exposure to anticancer drugs, including immune checkpoint inhibitors. The incidence rate of breast cancer is increasing due to rising awareness of risk factors and screening for breast cancer, and the mortality rate is decreasing due to recent advances in cancer treatment. However, there are side effects that are attributed to these treatment modalities, manifesting in various forms in breast cancer survivors, which are reflected in the patient in this case study. Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is a chronic devastating autoimmune disorder of the thyroid gland, which develops due to environmental and genetic predispositions. Various studies have explored the role of 25(OH)-D deficiency in HT. Although vitamin D supplementation is suggested to improve thyroid functions, the mechanism of action of vitamin D on thyroid hormones remains unclear. The objective of the present study was to determine serum concentrations of thyroid hormones, serum thyroid antibodies, and serum 25(OH)-D and underscore the association of vitamin D with thyroid function in HT. A crosssectional study comprising 150 subjects, including 80 HT cases and 70 healthy controls was carried out. The serum thyroid hormone concentrations (FT4, TSH), serum thyroid antibodies (anti-TPO, anti-Tg), serum 25(OH)-D, serum ferritin, blood hematocrit, and mean cell volume (MCV) were measured. Results showed that serum TSH, anti-Tg, and anti-TPO were significantly increased in HT cases than in the healthy controls, while serum FT4, 25(OH)-D and ferritin were significantly reduced (p <0.0001). A negative correlation between serum vitamin D with anti-TPO and a positive correlation with FT4 and ferritin (p <0.05) was observed. The results indicated that reduced serum levels of vitamin D are associated with higher serum anti-TPO and lower serum FT4 and ferritin levels in HT patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: An association exists between major depression disorder (MDD), suicide attempts, and glucose metabolism, but suicide attempts in young MDD patients with comorbid impaired fasting glucose (IFG) have been less well studied. The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence and risk factors for suicide attempts in young, first-episode, drug-naive (FEDN) MDD patients with comorbid IFG. Methods: We recruited 917 young patients with FEDN MDD, 116 of whom were judged to have combined IFG because their blood glucose was >6.0. We collected anthropological and clinical data on all of them. The Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) score, the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) score and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) positive subscale score were used to assess their clinical symptoms. Blood glucose, plasma thyroid function and lipid indicators were measured. Results: The prevalence of suicide attempts in young MDD patients with IFG was 32.8% (38/116). Furthermore, among young MDD patients with comorbid IFG, suicide attempters had more severe depression and anxiety symptoms, more comorbid psychotic symptom, higher levels of antibody of thyroid stimulating hormone and thyroid peroxidases (TPOAb), and more severe lipid metabolism disorders than those without suicide attempts. In addition, HAMA scores and TPOAb were independently associated with suicide attempts in young patients with FEDN MDD. Conclusion: Our study suggests that young MDD patients with IFG have a high rate of suicide attempts. Some clinical symptoms and thyroid function parameters may be the risk factor for suicide attempts in young MDD patients with impaired glucose metabolism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Iron deficiency is a common problem in subfertile women. The influence of iron status on unexplained infertility is unknown. Methods: In a case-control study, 36 women with unexplained infertility and 36 healthy non-infertile controls were included. Parameters of iron status including serumferritin and a serum ferritin <30 µg/dL served as main outcome parameters. Results: Women with unexplained infertility demonstrated a lower transferrin saturation (median 17.3%, IQR 12.7-25.2 versus 23.9%, IQR 15.4-31.6; p= 0.034) and a lower mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (median 33.6 g/dL, IQR 33.0-34.1 versus 34.1 g/dL, IQR 33.2-34.7; p= 0.012). Despite the fact that there was no statistically significant difference in median ferritin levels (p= 0.570), women with unexplained infertility had ferritin levels <30µg/L more often (33.3%) than controls (11.1%; p= 0.023). In a multivariate model, unexplained infertility and abnormal thyroid antibodies were associated with ferritin <30µg/L (OR 4.906, 95%CI: 1.181-20.388; p= 0.029 and OR 13.099; 2.382-72.044; p= 0.029, respectively). Conclusion: Ferritin levels <30µg/L were associated with unexplained infertility andmight be screened in the future. Further studies with a focus on iron deficiency and iron treatment on women with unexplained infertility are warranted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To establish the frequency of thyroid disorders among Rheumatoid Arthritis patients and its association with disease severity measured by DAS28-ESR. Study Design: Prospective longitudinal study. Place and Duration of Study: Department of Rheumatology, Federal Government Policlinic Hospital, Islamabad Pakistan, from Jan to Jun 2021. Methodology: The study included 87 consecutive patients either gender with Rheumatoid Arthritis visiting Rheumatology OPD. Thyroid profile and DAS28-ESR were performed in all the patients. Results: Out of 87 patients, 73(83.9%) were females, and 14(16.1%) were males. The mean age was 45.54±13.50 years. The mean DAS28-ESR was 4.45±0.68, with a minimum DAS28-ESR of 1.25 and a maximum of 8.40. The Disease severity calculated by DAS28-ESR was mild in 19(21.8%), moderate in 44(50.6%) and severe in 24(27.6 %) patients. The thyroid gland was abnormal in 23(26.1%) patients. 18(78.2%) of 23 patients with thyroid disorders belonged to the moderate to severe Rheumatoid arthritis disease activity group. Conclusion: Thyroid disorders are very common in Rheumatoid Arthritis patients. Thyroid workup should be part of investigations of Rheumatoid Arthritis for early detection of thyroid disorder and better disease control.

In 15–20% of cases, Graves' disease (GD) shifts to Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), while the shift from HT to GD is rare. We present a case of a patient in whom HT shifted to GD, along with a literature review. A 50-year-old woman with myxedema was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease due to hypothyroidism and the presence of antibodies against thyroid peroxidase (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin (TgAb); she also had thyroid stimulating antibodies (TSAb) without any signs of GD. Although thyroid hormone replacement therapy improved her thyroid function, 2 months later, hyperthyroidism appeared and did not improve after discontinuation of the replacement therapy. The patient was diagnosed with GD, which improved with antithyroid agent administration. To date, only 50 cases regarding conversion from HT to GD have been reported. The median age is 44 years (range, 23–82 years), and the median time of conversion is 7 years (range, 0.1–27 years). The male-to-female ratio of HT conversion to GD is 1:9, closer to that of regular GD (1:10) than that of general HT (1:18). All patients received thyroid hormone replacement therapy for hypothyroidism due to HT. Continuous evaluation of TSAb levels is recommended in HT, particularly in cases of TSAb-positive and those under replacement, since it may help predict conversion to GD. Evaluating the clinical characteristics of patients with HT preceding GD is crucial to ensure appropriate treatment and reduce the risk of adverse events. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is an autoimmune disease, and a major cause of hypothyroidism. Due to its insidious nature, non-presence of clear clinical symptoms, there is often a delay in getting a diagnosis for HT, which leads to irreversible damage. Therefore, early screening and improving diagnostic accuracy are essential to the treatment of HT. There are few studies on the application of infrared thermal imaging technology as an auxiliary diagnostic tool for HT. Objective To explore the features of metabolic calorific values measured by infrared thermal imaging in female adults with HT. Methods Participants were recruited from the Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from April 2019 to June 2021, including 100 adult gynecological outpatients with HT, and 100 healthy, adult female physical examinees. Both groups completed the Classification and Determination of Constitution in TCM (ZYYXH/T157-2009) for assessing the constitution in TCM. Thyroid function test was performed to understand levels of thyroid function parameters〔thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb) , thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) , thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) , free triiodothyronine (FT3) , free thyroxine (FT4) 〕. Full body thermography using infrared thermal imaging was implemented to examine the calorific values of the left and right lobes of the thyroid gland, the uterus, the Shenque acupoint and the Governor vessel. The aforementioned parameters were compared between HT patients and physical examinees to identify intergroup differences. The calorific values of thyroid left and right lobes, the uterus, the Shenque acupoint and the Governor vessel were compared across HT patients with 9 types of constitution in TCM, and the associations of them with thyroid function parameters were explored, then their associations with infertility in HT were evaluated using binary logistic regression analysis. Results The top 4 types of constitution in TCM in HT patients were yang-deficiency, qi-stagnation, damp-heat, and phlegm-dampness. Introduction: Hashimoto’s thyroiditis otherwise called as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis is the most common cause of hypothyroidism and one of the most common thyroid lesions in Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC). Diagnosis depends on clinical findings, ultrasonographic findings, thyroid profile and antithyroid antibody levels along with the FNAC findings. Not much studies are there which have assessed the association of the clinical and biochemical parameters with the cytological findings. Aim: To grade the cytological features of lymphocytic thyroiditis and to study the association of the grades with Thyroid Function Test (TFT) and antithyroid antibody levels. Materials and Methods: A prospective time bound analytical observational study of one year was carried out in the Department of Pathology at Government Medical College, Palakkad, Kerala, India after obtaining approval from the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC). Out of the total of 462 cases of thyroid lesions who underwent Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA), 147 cases were lymphocytic thyroiditis as per cytology. Of these, 40 cases had Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Antithyroglobulin Antibody (ATG) and Antithyroid Peroxidase Antibody (ATPO) levels known which were included in the study. Studies which report cystatin C's (Cys-C) role in immunological disorders are increasing. However, data in the pediatric age group is limited. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the association between serum Cys-C levels and thyroid autoantibodies in children and adolescents diagnosed with euthyroid Hashimoto's thyroiditis. The patient group was included 50 participants aged between 3 and 18 years, and the control group included 50 healthy children matched for age, gender, and body mass index. Patients with hypothyroidism or taking any medication were not included in the study. Fasting glucose, liver enzymes, urea, creatinine, lipid profile, Cys-C, free thyroxine (fT4), free triiodothyronine (fT3), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), and thyroglobulin antibodies (TGAb) levels were recorded in all subjects. The mean age of control group was 13.5 ± 2.5 years, and the mean age of Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) group was 14.2 ± 2.7 years, no statistically significant differences existed (p=0.205). Cys-C values were significantly higher in the HT group than in the control group (p=0.041). When all cases were evaluated, Cys-C levels were statistically positively correlated with fT3, TPOAb, and TGAb values (p<0.001, p=0.029, p=0.013 respectively). Based on the results of our study, Cys-C levels in children and adolescents with euthyroid Hashimoto thyroiditis were statistically higher than their healthy peers. Abstract Background Data regarding the relation between both subclinical thyroid dysfunction, thyroid autoantibodies and clinical outcomes in stroke patients are limited. This study aimed to evaluate subclinical thyroid dysfunction and thyroid autoantibodies production in acute stroke patients and their relation to long term stroke outcome. We recruited 138 patients who were subjected to thorough general, neurological examination and brain imaging. Blood samples were collected for measurement of levels of serum thyroid function [free tri-iodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxin (FT4), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)], thyroid autoantibodies within 48 h after hospital admission. FT4 and TSH after 1 year were done. The stroke severity was assessed at admission by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). The stroke outcome was assessed at 3 months and after 1 year by the modified Rankin Scale (mRS). We divided the patients into two groups according to thyroid autoantibodies (positive and negative groups). Results Subclinical hyperthyroidism was found in 23% of patients, and subclinical hypothyroidism in 10% of patients. Euthyroidism was detected in 67% of patients. 34% patients had positive thyroid autoantibody. Positive thyroid autoantibodies were commonly found in those with subclinical hyperthyroidism (28%), followed by subclinical hypothyroidism (21%) and euthyroidism (14%). 73% and 59% of stroke patients had poor outcomes (mRS was > 2) at 3 months and 1 year respectively with no significant difference between ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients. In the positive group final TSH level, NIHSS score at admission, and disability at 1 year were significantly higher compared with the negative group. Poor outcome was significantly associated with higher NIHSS score at admission, positive thyroid autoantibodies, subclinical hyperthyroidism, and atrial fibrillation. Conclusions Subclinical thyroid dysfunction could be found in stroke patients with positive thyroid autoantibodies. Subclinical hyperthyroidism and thyroid autoantibodies were associated with a poor outcome at 1 year in first-ever acute stroke patients especially in those presented with atrial fibrillation and higher NIHSS score at admission.

Objective 　To observe the effects of Buzhong Yiqi Tang ( Center-supplementing and Qiboosting Decoction, BZYQT) on thyroid antibody, Th-related cytokines and histopathological morphology of experimental autoimmune thyroiditis (EAT) model rats. Methods　The EAT rat model was replicated using a mixed immunoinjection method of pig thyroglobulin and Fredrin's adjuvant combined with high iodine feeding method, and the rats were randomly divided into the model group, selenium yeast group, BZYQT group, and blank group, with nine rats in each group. Selenium yeast group was given selenium yeast (20. 67 μg/ kg), while BZYQT group was given Buzhong Yiqi Granules (0. 93 g/ kg), and the blank and model groups were given equal volums of drinking water. After 56 days of the intervention, free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), thyroidstimulating hormone (TSH), thyroperoxidase antibody (TPOAb), thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb), interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-38 (IL-38), interferon-γ (IFN-γ) were detected in the peripheral blood of rats by enzyme-linked immunosorbent (ELISA) determination, and the histopathological changes of rat thyroid were observed under light microscope by HE staining. Results　Compared with the blank group, FT3, FT4, T3, T4, TPOAb, TGAb, IFN-γ and IFN-γ/ IL-4 increased (P<0. 05), while IL-4 and IL-38 decreased (P<0. 05), and a large number of lymphocytes were infiltrated in thyroid tissue in the model group. Compared with the model group, FT3, FT4, T3, T4, TGAb, TPOAb, IFN-γ and IFN- γ/ IL-4 in BZYQT group and selenium yeast group decreased (P<0. 05), while IL-4 and IL-38 increased (P<0. 05). Compared with selenium yeast group, TGAb and TPOAb in BZYQT group decreased (P< 0. 05). Under light microscope, the degree of lymphocyte infiltration in the thyroid tissue of rats in the two groups significantly reduced compared with that in the model group, and the improvement of infiltration in the BZYQT group was better than that in the selenium yeast group. Conclusion　BZYQT can improve the thyroid function of EAT rats by regulating the autoimmune function, reduce the levels of TGAb and TPOAb, and alleviate the lymphocyte infiltration in thyroid tissues. The first group (Group A) comprised 20 eyes with active TED (CAS score ≥ 3/7), while the second group (Group B) comprised 20 eyes with inactive TED (CAS score < 3/7) and the third group (Group C) comprised 20 eyes of controls without dry eye manifestations. The palpebral fissure height, degree of proptosis, degree of lagophthalmos, ocular surface disease index (OSDI), Schirmer test without anesthesia, corneal fluorescein staining (CFS), non-invasive tear break-up time (NITBUT), tear meniscus height (TMH), lipid layer thickness (LLT), meiboscore, meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), and thyroid antibodies were assessed and data were compared between study participants.Results: The mean OSDI was 40.0 ± 5.80 in Group A, which significantly differed from Group B with a mean of 26.5 ± 5.10 (p=0.02). There were significant differences between the two groups regarding palpebral fissure height (p=0.02), amount of proptosis (p=0.008), and degree of lagophthalmos (p=0.001). Similarly, active TED patients had more decreased tear secretion than inactive TED patients (p=0.012). Moreover, active TED patients showed a significant increase in Meibomian gland loss areas in both upper and lower eyelids compared with inactive TED patients (p=0.001). Corneal fluorescein staining also revealed a statistically significant difference between the studied groups (p=0.0001).Conclusion: This study showed differences regarding ocular surface parameter changes between both active and inactive TED and compared to controls. Background and Design: In this study, we investigated the role of vitamin D deficiency and autoimmunity in chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) etiopathogenesis and their impact on the disease severity. Materials and Methods: Sixty patients with CSU aged between 18 and 65 years were enrolled to the study. The control group comprised 40 healthy individuals who had no episodes of urticaria or any other chronic diseases. An autologous serum skin test (ASST) was performed in all patients. In addition, 25 hydroxyvitamin D, thyroid autoantibodies (TA), anti-nuclear antibody (ANA), and basophils were evaluated in all groups. Urticaria activity score-7 (UAS7) and dermatological quality of life index (DLQI) of all patients were examined. Results: Angioedema was more frequent and UAS7 was higher in ASST-positive patients than ASST-negative patients (p=0.035, p=0.018, respectively).

This study aimed to evaluate the clinical utility of the subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) marker, elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroid antibodies in their ability to predict subsequent gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). In a prospective clinical trial, 230 pregnant women were screened for thyroid function during the first trimester of pregnancy. Increased TSH levels with normal free thyroxine (fT4) were considered SCH. The titers of thyroid peroxidase antibody (anti TPO Ab) at >35 IU/mL and thyroglobulin antibody (anti Tg Ab) at >115 IU/mL were considered as antibodies present. According to the OGTT results, the number of pregnant women with GDM showed the expected growth trend, which was 19%. Two groups of pregnant women were compared, one with GDM and the other without. Increased TSH levels and the presence of thyroid antibodies showed a positive correlation with the risk of GDM. TSH levels were significantly higher in pregnant women with GDM, p = 0.027. In this study, 25.6% of pregnant women met the diagnostic criteria for autoimmune thyroiditis. Hashimoto's thyroiditis was significantly more common in GDM patients, p < 0.001. Through multivariate logistic regression, it was demonstrated that patient age, TSH 4 IU/mL, and anti TPO Ab > 35 IU/mL are significant predictors of gestational diabetes mellitus that may improve first-trimester pregnancy screening performance, AUC: 0.711; 95% CI: 0.629–0.793. Although numerous articles have found an association between alterations in thyroid function and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), other studies have failed to demonstrate this association. This may be due to the different cut-off points used to define subclinical hypothyroidism. We aim to clarify the role of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level in GDM within pregnant women with normal free thyroxine (fT4) levels. This retrospective cohort study was performed in 6775 pregnant women. The association between TSH and GDM was assessed by bivariate and multivariate logistic regression. Pregnant women with subclinical hypothyroidism are at significantly greater risk for GDM when compared with euthyroid pregnant women (OR = 1.85; 95% CI = 1.36–2.52). We have also observed that TSH levels increase the risk of GDM within euthyroid pregnant women, since the TSH levels between 2.5 and 4.71 showed a higher risk of GDM than those whose TSH levels are between 0.31 and 2.49 (OR = 1.54; 95% CI = 1.28–1.84). In addition, pregnant women with positive thyroid antibodies have almost 2.5 times the risk of developing GDM (OR = 2.47; 95% CI = 1.57–3.89). Iodine is an essential trace element for humans and the main raw material for thyroid hormone synthesis. However, the association between iodine nutritional status and adverse pregnancy outcomes in different regions remains controversial. This single-center cohort study was focused on the association between iodine nutritional status and adverse pregnancy outcomes in Beijing, China. We enrolled 726 pregnant women who were registered at the Peking University International Hospital between February 2017 and December 2019. To analyze the association between iodine nutritional status variations and adverse pregnancy outcomes, this study cohort included 390 (53.72%) participants with iodine deficiency, 206 (28.37%) with an adequate iodine level, 103 (14.19%) with a more than adequate iodine level, and 27 (3.72%) with iodine excess, according to the urinary iodine (UI) status of pregnant women. After adjusting for age, body mass index, parity, and history of spontaneous abortion, we identified iodine deficiency as a risk factor for anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) positivity [odds ratio (OR), 3.646; 95% confidence interval (95% CI), 1.658–8.017], anti-thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb) positivity (OR, 3.109; 95% CI, 1.465–6.599), and thyroid autoimmunity (OR, 2.885; 95% CI, 1.539–5.407). There was a non-linear relationship between UI and the concentrations of TPOAb and TGAb (Pnon-linear < 0.05). Iodine deficiency during the first trimester is a risk factor for thyroid autoantibody positivity. The relationship between UI and the concentrations of TPOAb and TGAb follows a nearly U-shaped curve. Abstract Background Glucocorticoid treatment is used in children with Graves’ disease (GD) only in cases of exophthalmos. The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of glucocorticoid pulse therapy on thyroid function and thyroid antibodies in children with GD. Methods Twenty children who were treated by intravenous methylprednisolone pulse therapy (MPT) followed by oral prednisolone administration and antithyroid drugs were included in the pulse group. Twenty children who were treated with antithyroid drugs alone were included in the control group. Serum concentrations of free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), thyrotropin (TSH), thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb), thyroglobulin antibodies (TGAb), and thyrotropin receptor antibodies (TRAb) were recorded at baseline and 10 days, 30 days, and 60 days after treatment. Results Significant differences in FT3, FT4, TSH, TPOAb, TGAb, and TRAb levels were found in the pulse group and the control group from baseline to follow-up time points (all p 0.05). No significant differences were observed in FT3, FT4, TSH, TPOAb, and TGAb levels between the pulse group and the control group (all p > 0.05). Conclusions The results suggested that the effect of intravenous MPT followed by oral prednisolone on TRAb level was temporary in children with GD. Glucocorticoid pulse therapy was not beneficial for the sustained recovery of thyroid function.

Abstract Background Autoimmunity increases with age and is often commonly evaluated in women of the reproductive age group. Prevalence of thyroid antibodies is common even in euthyroid pregnant women. We aim to compare the association of thyroid antibody status on the maternal and neonatal outcomes in pregnant women with hypothyroidism. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional retrospective study on 718 cases in the Aga Khan University Hospital. Information was collected on pregnant women who have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism before conception or during their antenatal period. Laboratory data were recorded for thyroid peroxidase antibodies, anti-thyroglobulin antibodies, and thyroid-stimulating hormone levels. Maternal and neonatal outcomes were also noted from medical file records. Data analysis was performed on Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 20.0. Results Overall, 146 out 718 cases were included for final analysis. Thyroid peroxidase antibodies were positive in 66.4% and anti-thyroglobulin was positive in 52.1% cases, whereas 43.8% of cases had both antibodies positive. Pre-gestational diabetes was significantly associated with thyroid autoimmunity. There was a 73% less chance of gestational hypertension for thyroid autoimmune groups. Gestational diabetes and maternal (chronic) hypertension were found to have an independent effect on postpartum hemorrhage. Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy were found to have an independent risk for premature birth. Conclusion Our study reports a 74.7% prevalence of positive thyroid antibodies in hypothyroid pregnant women, with higher association with pre-gestational diabetes. Gestational hypertension was least likely to occur in thyroid autoimmune groups. None of the outcomes were independently associated with worse outcomes.

Introduction: Graves' Disease (GD), the leading cause of hyperthyroidism is caused by interaction between various autoantibodies generated as a result of autoimmune dysregulation in genetically suspected individuals. Aim: To study the prevalence of serum levels of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) Receptor Antibody (TRAb), Antithyroid Peroxidase Antibody (Anti TPOAb) and Antithyroglobulin Antibodies (Anti TgAb) in subclinical cases of GD. Materials and Methods: This was a hospital based crosssectional study conducted in the Department of Biochemistry, in a tertiary care hospital, over a period of one and half years from January 2019 to June 2020. A total of 120 patients with subtle symptoms of GD of age group between 30 to 60 years and same number of age and sex matched healthy controls were enrolled for the study. Collection of data was done and serum TRAb was estimated by Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), while AntiTPO and AntiTg antibodies were measured using Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay (ECLIA). Results: Serum levels of all the three antibody titres were found to be significantly higher in cases compared to controls. When diagnosis and differentiation of GD was done between cases and controls based on TRAb positivity (80.0%) or negativity (20.0%), it was found to have a sensitivity of 80% and specificity 98.3%. TRAb also had positive and negative predictive values of 97.9% and 84.3%, respectively. TRAb positive cases also had higher levels of Anti TPO and Anti TgAb in comparison to TRAb intermediate or negative group. Conclusion: Prevalence of high titres of autoantibodies especially TRAb are pathognomonic of early GD. Introduction/Aims: Immunophenotypes are related to the therapeutic efficacy of specific immunomodulating agents in patients with myasthenia gravis (MG), but the relationship of immunophenotype to the presence or absence of thyroid antibodies is unknown. This study aims to evaluate differences in the immunophenotypes between MG patients with and without thyroid antibody (TAb) positivity to provide insight for future targeted immunotherapies. Methods: This retrospective observational study included 48 MG patients with acetylcholine receptor antibody (AchR‐Ab), of which 15 (31.25%) were TAb positive. Ocular MG (OMG) was defined as ocular‐only manifestations for the duration for which records were available. Peripheral lymphocyte subpopulations were measured by flow cytometry. Results: TAb positive patients appeared to have a higher prevalence of OMG than TAb negative patients (53.33% vs. 24.24%, p =.048). Percentages of B cells (mean difference (MD) = 6.16, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.91–10.40, p =.007) and CD8 + CD28+ cells (MD = 15.14, 95%CI: 5.17–25.11, p =.013) were higher in TAb positive patients than those in TAb negative patients, while AChR‐Ab titers (MD = −6.49 nmol/L, 95%CI: −9.29 to −3.70, p <.001), percentages of T cells (MD = −6.43, 95%CI: −11.92 to −0.94, p =.023), CD3 + HLA‐DR+ cells (MD = −6.47, 95%CI: −12.31 to −0.63, p =.031) and CD8+ T cells (MD = −6.60, 95%CI: −9.86 to −3.34, p <.001) were lower. Discussion: The immunophenotypes of MG patients with and without TAb positivity were significantly different, suggesting that their sensitivity to immunotherapy may be different. Further studies focused on differences between TAb positive and TAb negative MG patients in their responses to specific immunotherapies are needed to support our exploratory findings. The prevalence of celiac disease (CD) in patients with chronic autoimmune thyroiditis (CAIT) is estimated to be between 2 and 7.8%. A gluten-free diet (GFD) in patients with CD is suggested to have a beneficial effect on CAIT. Thus, the present systematic review was undertaken to achieve more robust evidence about the change in thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroid-specific antibodies (T-Ab) levels obtained in CD patients following a GFD. A specific search strategy was planned. The last search was performed on March 2022. The following data were mainly searched for in order to be extracted: sample size, mean and/or median with standard deviation (SD), and error (SE), individually, of thyroid hormones and T-Ab at baseline and after GFD, and the duration of the study. The initial search retrieved 297 records and 6 articles met the inclusion criteria. In total, 50 patients with both CD and CAIT and 45 controls were reported. The effects of a GFD on the thyroid hormonal and immunological profile could be extracted only in a part of the studies. Two studies were case reports. A low risk of bias was observed. These findings advise further studies, ideally randomized, in order to better investigate the potential relationship between GFD and thyroid homeostasis. The reproductive potential of a woman depends on indicators of the ovarian reserve, such as the anti-Muller hormone (AMH) and the number of antral follicles (NAF). Autoimmune diseases have a significant effect on fertility and contribute to the development of premature ovarian failure. Aim.To evaluate the parameters of the ovarian reserve in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, carriers of antibodies to the thyroid gland in a state of euthyroidism and compare them with similar parameters in healthy women. Materials and methods.In the first block of the study, the level of AMH, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, NAF was studied among 224 women with diabetes and 230 healthy women in the control group. In block II, the level of the above hormonal indices was studied in 35 carriers of antithyroid antibodies in the state of euthyroidism and 35 healthy women. Results.In patients with type 1 diabetes, the level of AMH, NAF was statistically significantly lower when compared with the control group. Among carriers of antithyroid antibodies and healthy women, no difference in AMH and NAF was found. Conclusion.The autoimmune processes accompanying diabetes are more influenced by the ovarian reserve indices than autoimmune aggression to the tissues of the thyroid gland.

In 15–20% of cases, Graves’ disease (GD) shifts to Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT), while the shift from HT to GD is rare. We present a case of a patient in whom HT shifted to GD, along with a literature review. A 50-year-old woman with myxedema was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease due to hypothyroidism and the presence of antibodies against thyroid peroxidase (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin (TgAb); she also had thyroid stimulating antibodies (TSAb) without any signs of GD. Although thyroid hormone replacement therapy improved her thyroid function, 2 months later, hyperthyroidism appeared and did not improve after discontinuation of the replacement therapy. The patient was diagnosed with GD, which improved with antithyroid agent administration. To date, only 50 cases regarding conversion from HT to GD have been reported. The median age is 44 years (range, 23–82 years), and the median time of conversion is 7 years (range, 0.1–27 years). The male-to-female ratio of HT conversion to GD is 1:9, closer to that of regular GD (1:10) than that of general HT (1:18). All patients received thyroid hormone replacement therapy for hypothyroidism due to HT. Continuous evaluation of TSAb levels is recommended in HT, particularly in cases of TSAb-positive and those under replacement, since it may help predict conversion to GD. Evaluating the clinical characteristics of patients with HT preceding GD is crucial to ensure appropriate treatment and reduce the risk of adverse events.

Background: The association between the thyroid echo pattern and thyroid function has an important impact on the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases in children. Objectives: The present study aimed to compare thyroid parenchymal echogenicity with thyroid function tests and evaluate the value of a thyroid ultrasound (US) in predicting thyroid function parameters in the pediatric population. Methods: A total of 434 children (age range: 5-18 years; mean age: 13.18 ± 3.42 years) were categorized into two groups based on the thyroid parenchymal appearance on the US as subjects with homogeneous (group 1) and heterogeneous (group 2) echo patterns. Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free triiodothyronine (fT3), free thyroxine (fT4), thyroglobulin antibody (Tg-Ab), and thyroperoxidase antibody (TPO-Ab) levels were evaluated and compared between the two groups. Results: The levels of TSH, fT3, fT4, Tg-Ab, and TPO-Ab were significantly different between the two groups (P < 0.0001). All thyroid function tests were within normal ranges in 73.4% (168/229) and 14.6% (30/205) of children with homogeneous and heterogeneous echo patterns, respectively. The homogeneous thyroid gland on the US had 73.8% sensitivity in predicting normal TSH and 100% sensitivity in predicting normal fT3 and fT4. The sensitivity for predicting negative Tg-Ab and TPO-Ab were 78.7 and 85.3%, respectively. Conclusions: The current study compared the homogeneous and heterogeneous thyroid echo patterns with the thyroid function tests in children. Background: Data regarding the relation between both subclinical thyroid dysfunction, thyroid autoantibodies and clinical outcomes in stroke patients are limited. This study aimed to evaluate subclinical thyroid dysfunction and thyroid autoantibodies production in acute stroke patients and their relation to long term stroke outcome. We recruited 138 patients who were subjected to thorough general, neurological examination and brain imaging. Blood samples were collected for measurement of levels of serum thyroid function [free tri-iodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxin (FT4), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)], thyroid autoantibodies within 48 h after hospital admission. FT4 and TSH after 1 year were done. The stroke severity was assessed at admission by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). The stroke outcome was assessed at 3 months and after 1 year by the modified Rankin Scale (mRS). We divided the patients into two groups according to thyroid autoantibodies (positive and negative groups). Results: Subclinical hyperthyroidism was found in 23% of patients, and subclinical hypothyroidism in 10% of patients. Euthyroidism was detected in 67% of patients. 34% patients had positive thyroid autoantibody. Positive thyroid autoantibodies were commonly found in those with subclinical hyperthyroidism (28%), followed by subclinical hypothyroidism (21%) and euthyroidism (14%). 73% and 59% of stroke patients had poor outcomes (mRS was > 2) at 3 months and 1 year respectively with no significant difference between ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients. In the positive group final TSH level, NIHSS score at admission, and disability at 1 year were significantly higher compared with the negative group. Poor outcome was significantly associated with higher NIHSS score at admission, positive thyroid autoantibodies, subclinical hyperthyroidism, and atrial fibrillation. Conclusions: Subclinical thyroid dysfunction could be found in stroke patients with positive thyroid autoantibodies. Subclinical hyperthyroidism and thyroid autoantibodies were associated with a poor outcome at 1 year in first-ever acute stroke patients especially in those presented with atrial fibrillation and higher NIHSS score at admission. Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) often co-occurs with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an association that has long been reported in clinical studies yet remains controversial. Some studies, in fact, have suggested a protective effect of thyroiditis while others have not. We generated a mouse model where PTC and thyroiditis develop in a predictable manner, combining the oncogenic drive of the BRAFv600E mutation (inducible by tamoxifen) to the thyroiditis susceptibility of the NOD.H2h4 strain (inducible by iodine). A total of 113 NOD.H2h4_TPO-CRE-ER_BRAFV600E mice (50 followed throughout lifetime and 63 sacrificed at 16 weeks post tamoxifen) were used to determine whether the PTC phenotype differs when thyroiditis precedes or coincides with the onset of PTC. Mice with pre-existing thyroiditis lived longer (median survival of 28.2 weeks post tamoxifen) than those with concomitant (25.6 weeks) or no (24.5 weeks) thyroiditis (P  < 0.01 by Laplace regression). PTC developed less frequently (33%) in the pre-existing thyroiditis group than the concomitant (100%) or no (100%) thyroiditis groups (P  < 0.001 by chi-squared) and showed less aggressive histopathological features. The intratumoral mononuclear cell infiltration was more prominent in mice with pre-existing thyroiditis (P  = 0.002 vs the other groups) and sustained by a significant expansion of effector memory CD8 + T cells and CD19 + B cells. These findings shed light on the controversial PTC-thyroiditis association and emphasize the contribution of intratumoral T and B lymphocytes to the evolution of PTC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The current meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association of thyroid dysfunction and autoimmunity with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Methods: A comprehensive search from PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, and Cochrane databases until November 2020 was conducted. Fixed-effect model was used to combine the results when I2 was <50%. Random-effect model was used to summarize the results when I2 was >50%. Results: A total of 44 studies were included in the meta-analysis. Low FT4 levels were closely related with GDM in the first and second trimesters of gestation. Hypothyroxinemia (OR: 1.45; 95% CI: 1.25, 1.68; P < 0.00001), overt (OR: 1.80; 95% CI: 1.73, 1.86; P < 0.00001), and subclinical (OR: 1.54; 95% CI: 1.03, 2.30; P = 0.03) hypothyroidism, overt hyperthyroidism (OR: 1.49; 95% CI: 1.09, 2.04; P = 0.01), and positive thyroid antibodies (OR: 1.49; 95% CI: 1.07, 2.07; P < 0.00001) were observed significantly associated with the risk of GDM. Pregnant women with subclinical hyperthyroidism were less likely to develop GDM (OR: 0.62; 95% CI: 0.39, 0.97; P = 0.04). Conclusions: Thyroid dysfunction and positive thyroid antibodies were associated with the risk of GDM. BackgroundHypothyroidism induced by an autoimmune process is associated with neuropsychiatric symptoms and metabolic abnormalities in the brain. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between autoimmune thyroiditis and regional brain function in hypothyroid patients.MethodsCerebral glucose metabolism, as an index of brain function, was assessed in regional whole-brain analyses using positron emission tomography (PET) and [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose in thirteen hypothyroid patients with autoimmune thyroiditis suffering from neuropsychiatric symptoms. The primary biological measures were radioactivity in pre-selected brain regions, relative to whole-brain radioactivity, as a surrogate index of glucose metabolism, and serum levels of thyroglobulin (TG) and thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibodies as endocrine markers of autoimmune thyroiditis.ResultsSerum levels of anti-TG antibodies in hypothyroid patients were significantly correlated with glucose metabolism in the perigenual anterior cingulate cortex, a brain region previously shown to regulate affect and emotional homeostasis.ConclusionThyroid autoimmune processes may play an important role in the still poorly defined pathogenic correlates of disturbed function in brain regions critically involved in emotional processing in hypothyroid conditions.

Objective: Graves’ disease (GD) is characterized by elevated TSH-receptor antibodies (TRAb) and less often – thyroid peroxidase (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb). Our aim was to examine the hormonal and ultrasound characteristics of patients with newly diagnosed GD with differing positive thyroid antibodies.

Several studies have reported the association between thyroid autoimmunity (TAI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) outcomes. However, the findings remain controversial. We performed a large-scale retrospective cohort study to verify the effect of the presence of thyroid antibodies on IVF/ICSI outcomes and fetal growth and to evaluate the association between the types and titers of thyroid antibodies and adverse IVF/ICSI outcomes. A total of 16481 patients with infertility were referred to the Reproductive Center of Peking University Third Hospital for their first IVF/ICSI treatment between January 2018 and June 2019.Patients who sought IVF/ICSI treatment due to tubal or male factors infertility and who achieved fresh embryo transfer were included in our study. Finally, 778 patients with thyroid antibody positivity were selected as the TAI group, and 778 age-matched patients were included in the control group. The number of oocytes retrieved and high-graded embryos and the rates of clinical pregnancy, miscarriage, live birth, and preterm delivery were compared between the TAI and control groups. In addition, subgroup analysis was performed to demonstrate whether different types and titers of thyroid antibodies had different effects on IVF/ICSI outcomes. After adjusting for thyroid function, anti-Müllerian hormone levels, basal follicle stimulating hormone levels, basal estradiol levels and antral follicle count, the number of oocytes retrieved in the TAI group was significantly lower than that in the control group. No significant differences were observed between the two groups in the rates of clinical pregnancy, miscarriage, preterm delivery, live birth, and birth weight in singletons; however, the birth weight in twin pregnancy was significantly lower in the TAI group than in the control group. Subgroup analysis showed no association between the types or titers of thyroid antibodies and adverse IVF/ICSI outcomes. In conclusion, the presence of TAI in patients with infertility did not impair embryo quality or affect pregnancy outcomes, including clinical pregnancy, miscarriage, preterm delivery, and live birth. However, it decreased the number of oocytes retrieved and birth weight in twin pregnancy.
