Introduction: In this perspective review, we evaluated the clinical management of fatal fentanyl overdose in several routes of administration, concentrating on both legally prescribed and illegally produced formulations. Methods: A literature search was conducted on Web of Science, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases, using the following keywords: fentanyl, illicit fentanyl, deaths, misuse, abuse, and naloxone. We included only articles whose abstracts were available in English. All articles were screened using their abstracts to determine their relevance to the current review. Results: The gold standard for treating both acute and chronic pain is fentanyl, but abuse of the drug has exploded globally since the late 2000s. Fentanyl abuse has been shown to frequently result in serious harm and even death. Conclusion: By educating patients and physicians, making rescue kits easily accessible, developing vaccines to prevent opioid addiction, and perhaps even creating new tamper-resistant fentanyl formulations, it may be possible to prevent fentanyl misuse, therapeutic errors, and the repercussions that follow. Sodium alginate beads were explored as an adsorbent for exclusion of CV dye in batch mode by optimizing various parameters such as solution pH, effect of dye concentration, adsorbent's dose, contact time, and temperature. Experimental results revealed that maximum sorption, i.e., 97% was obtained at pH 12 in 20 minutes of contact time, 0.4 g of beads for 10 mL of dye solution at 30 °C. Characterization of sodium alginate beads confirmed that hydroxyl, carboxyl, amine, and sulfate functional groups are involved in dye adsorption on heterogeneous and porous surface of adsorbent. Isotherm study shows that Freundlich model fits best to experimental data having highest possible adsorption capacity of 4.797 mg g − 1 . Further, kinetic study revealed that pseudo-second order model plays a significant role in adsorption mechanism with R 2 = 0.9996. Suitability of each model is also checked by five error analysis models namely Hybrid, MPSD, EABS, ERRSQ, and ARE. Thermodynamic studies implied that CV dye adsorption on sodium alginate beads was spontaneous and endothermic in nature as confirmed from Δ G = −7.8 to −5.8 kJ mol−1 and Δ H = 10.201 kJ mol−1, respectively. Results also show that 92% of dye adsorption take place with tap water. Based on experimental outcomes, it has been concluded that sodium alginate beads are an excellent adsorbent to remove the CV dye from the solution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Silybum marianum, commonly known as milk thistle, is renowned for its potent antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties, primarily attributed to its active compound, silymarin. This study investigates the antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of Silybum marianum extract against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced hepatotoxicity in Wistar rats. The extract was prepared through ethanol-based solvent extraction and subjected to preliminary phytochemical screening, revealing the presence of tannins, alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, glycosides, steroids and terpenoids. Hepatoprotective efficacy was assessed by measuring serum biochemical markers such as AST, ALT, ALP, total bilirubin and MDA levels, alongside histopathological analysis of liver tissues. Rats treated with Silybum marianum extract showed significant improvements in liver function and oxidative stress markers compared to the CCl4 control group. The extract also enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx). These findings suggest that Silybum marianum holds therapeutic potential for protecting the liver against oxidative damage and inflammation.
