Azolla Filliculoides has been utilized as biofertilizer to increase productivity and yield of paddy. Azolla was used as a good source of nutrient to the paddy plant. In this study, we investigated the growth and productivity of paddy plant supplemented with liquid Azolla biofertilizer. The preparation of Azolla was monitored under several parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and salinity in an aquaponics system. Water quality analysis of the aquaponic system was monitored by using the Arduino system which the customized design that consists of a microcontroller to record the parameters directly to the computing device in a single optimum and efficient system. The nutrient composition of liquid Azolla biofertilizer was analyzed by using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP/MS) and CHNS elemental analysers. hows that liquid Azolla contents 0.958% nitrogen, 15.5 ppm phosphorus and 159.8 ppm potassium. After four months, the yield of paddy on Azolla was 149.12 kg/he with the productivity of 63.157 kg/he/year. This application helped to an efficient monitoring system for measure high yield and productivity of biofertilizer by Arduino software monitoring. This study can act as an initial step for the web-based automated control and monitoring of the food production system.

The chemical constituents of Psidium guajava essential oil was analyzed by using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. The essential oil was obtained from dried leaves by hydrodistillation method using a Clevenger apparatus. From the initial screening, 20 components were detected with different amounts traced. The most abundant constituents observed in the oil were Limonene (23.39%), Caryophyllene (18.19%), Cyclooctasiloxane (14.46%), and Pinene (13.50%). The essential oil showed significant antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Enterococcus faecalis and Bacillus cereus with inhibition range of 6-25 mm. The profile of chemical constituents present in the oil able to serve as preliminary screening of the bioactive components posses in a natural plants for investigating antibacterial properties in regenerative medicine.

Therapeutic properties of the medicinal plant are due to the presence of phytochemical constituents. The phytochemical constituents of Plumeria alba flower were investigated by phytochemical screening assays and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The phytochemical screening of hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, butanol, and aqueous extracts of P. alba flower showed it contains a various concentration of saponins, flavonoids, tannins, steroids, volatile oil and phenolic compounds. Several major chemical constituents that were identified is squalene, bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, methyl (methyl 4-O-methyl-α-d-mannopyranoside) uronate and tricyclo [7.2.0.0(2,6)] undecan-5-ol, 2,6,10,10-tetramethyl- (isomer 2) by using GC-MS technique.

A real-time impedance-based electrochemistry assay was used for assessing the cytotoxicity effect of water extract Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis on Vero cell line. In this study, H. rosa-sinensis was extracted by using the water extraction with three different concentration which were 200, 100 and 50 µg/mL. The phytochemical compounds in the extract were analyzed by using the Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The GC-MS result showed that the extract contains bioactive compounds such as n-hexadecanoic acid, pentadecanoic acid, phenol, 2,4-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl) and octadecanoic acid that have bioactive properties such as cytotoxic and antioxidant. The cytotoxic effect of the extract on normal cell line was assessed by using Real-Time Cell Analysis (RTCA) instrument. The result showed that there was no significant cytotoxicity effect against Vero cell lines. This result showed that the real-time impedance-based assay can be utilized to monitor changes of the cells and to determine the inhibitory concentration of the extract.

Alphavirus non-structural proteins 1–4 (nsP1, nsP2, nsP3, and nsP4) are known to be crucial for alphavirus RNA replication and translation. To date, nsP3 has been demonstrated to mediate many virus–host protein–protein interactions in several fundamental alphavirus mechanisms, particularly during the early stages of replication. However, the molecular pathways and proteins networks underlying these mechanisms remain poorly described. This is due to the low genetic sequence homology of the nsP3 protein among the alphavirus species, especially at its 3′ C-terminal domain, the hypervariable domain (HVD). Moreover, the nsP3 HVD is almost or completely intrinsically disordered and has a poor ability to form secondary structures. Evolution in the nsP3 HVD region allows the alphavirus to adapt to vertebrate and insect hosts. This review focuses on the putative roles and functions of indel, repetition, and duplication events that have occurred in the alphavirus nsP3 HVD, including characterization of the differences and their implications for specificity in the context of virus–host interactions in fundamental alphavirus mechanisms, which have thus directly facilitated the evolution, adaptation, viability, and re-emergence of these viruses.

Newcastle disease virus (NDV) strains can be classified as virulent or avirulent based upon the severity of the disease. Differentiation of the virus into virulent and avirulent is necessary for effective control of the disease. Biopanning experiments were performed using a disulfide constrained phage displayed heptapeptide library against three pathotypes of NDV strains: velogenic (highly virulent), mesogenic (moderately virulent) and lentogenic (avirulent). A phage clone bearing the peptide sequence SWGEYDM capable of distinguishing virulent from avirulent NDV strains was isolated. This phage clone was employed as a diagnostic reagent in a dot blot assay and it successfully detected only virulent NDV strains.

Background Deregulated expression of the transmembrane glycoprotein CDCP1 (CUB domain-containing protein-1) has been detected in several cancers including colon, lung, gastric, breast, and pancreatic carcinomas. CDCP1 has been proposed to either positively or negatively regulate tumour metastasis. In this study we assessed the role of CDCP1 in properties of cells that are directly relevant to metastasis, namely adhesion and motility. In addition, association between CDCP1 and the tetraspanin protein CD9 was investigated. Methods CDCP1 and CD9 protein expression was measured in a series of colon cancer cell lines by flow cytometry and Western blotting. Adhesion of Colo320 and SW480 cells was determined using a Matrigel adhesion assay. The chemotactic motility of SW480 cells in which CDCP1 expression had been reduced by RNA interference was analysed using the xCELLigence system Real-Time Cell Analyzer Dual Plates combined with 8 μm pore filters. Detergent-resistant membrane fractions were generated following density gradient centrifugation and the CDCP1 and CD9 protein composition of these fractions was determined by Western blotting. The potential association of the CDCP1 and CD9 proteins was assessed by co-immunoprecipitation. Results Engineered CDCP1 expression in Colo320 cells resulted in a reduction in cell adhesion to Matrigel. Treatment of SW480 cells with CDCP1 siRNA reduced serum-induced chemotaxis. CDCP1 and CD9 cell-surface protein and mRNA levels showed a positive correlation in colon cancer cell lines and the proteins formed a low-level, but detectable complex as judged by co-sedimentation of detergent lysates of HT-29 cells in sucrose gradients as well as by co-immunoprecipitation in SW480 cell lysates. Conclusions A number of recent studies have assigned a potentially important role for the cell-surface protein CDCP1 in invasion and metastasis of a several types of human cancer cells. In this study, CDCP1 was shown to modulate cell-substratum adhesion and motility in colon cancer cell lines, with some variation depending on the colon cancer cell type. CDCP1 and CD9 were co-expressed at the mRNA and protein level and we obtained evidence for the presence of a molecular complex of these proteins in SW480 colon cancer cells.
