Abstract

Research describes the competitive lanthanide(III) complexation behavior of hetero-lanthanide(III)nanoclusters together with their luminescence properties and intra- and inttercluster electronic interactions. Data indicate that small lanthanide(sup)3+ ions exhibit large ionic potentials than larger lanthanide(sup)3+ ions and the luminescence decay reveals extensive electronic coupling among lanthanide ions.

Abstract

A new member of the class of hydroxypyridonate-based gadolinium complexes targeted for magnetic resonance imaging contrast agent development is reported. The very fast water exchange rate allows for optimization of the water proton relaxivity by slowing the molecular rotation of the complex.
