Abstract

Electron-nuclear double resonance (ENDOR), at 95 GHz, was used to characterize the (super 57)Fe(III) sites in zeolites. Hyperfine couplings between -29.0 MHz and -29.6 MHz are typical of (super 57)Fe(III) in a zeolite framework. The W-band signals are devoid of second- and third-order hyperfine and zero-field splitting interactions and are easily resolvable. The zero-field splitting interactions resulted in a random broadening of the X-band ENDOR spectra for (super 57)FeL, (super 57)FeMFI, and (super 57)FeMAz.

Abstract

PUlsed electron nuclear double resonance and electron spin-echo envelope modulation measurements were carried out on Cytochrome P450cam (CP450cam) to investigate the anisotropic hyperfine interaction of the protons of the distal axial ligand in the substrate-free enzyme. The results showed that at a pH of 7.5 the axial ligand is not an OH- ligand but a water molecule with an Fe-H distance of 2.6 angstrom.

Abstract

The use of 17O ESEM led to the confirmation of the presence of an oxygen-containing axial ligand in low-spin native CP450cam and directly indicates that at pH 7.5 this ligand is a water molecule rather than OH-. The orientation of a water molecule was found to be confined (within plus and minus 10 degrees) with regard to the Fe-N directions within the heme plan, from the orientation of the 17O quadrupole tensor. As water ligand is not randomly oriented; either an orbital overlap restricts the orientation of the ligand or it is directed by hydrogen bonding to near protein chain residue.

Abstract

UV-vis and ESR spectroscopic studies characterize a series of ferrisilicate and ferrialuminosilicate zeolites. The zeolites exhibit a g equal to 2 signal apart from the Fe(3+) signal at g equal to 4.3. Thermal treatment and a combination of conventional and pulsed ESR methods identify the signals associated with extra framework Fe(3+).
