Background and aim: The aim of this study is to assess if people who chose to receive the preventive Natural Bioenergetics (NB) COVID-19 treatment would experience safely a strong reduction in frequency and severity of COVID-19 major symptoms (fever, cough, and shortness of breath) compared to the general population. Experimental procedure: The preventive NB COVID-19 treatment is a double acupuncture meridian-based procedure that primes the immune system using acupuncture points and specific substances and sounds on precise body locations. Four hundred and thirty-nine people from seven countries (Canada, USA, Mexico, UK, France, Israel, and Belgium) voluntarily received the non-invasive preventive NB treatment. Data used for this study have been gathered between April 2020 and December 2020. We propose an approach to spatial modeling of extreme rainfall, based on max-stable processes fitted using partial duration series and a censored threshold likelihood function. The resulting models are coherent with classical extreme-value theory and allow the consistent treatment of spatial dependence of rainfall using ideas related to those of classical geostatistics. We illustrate the ideas through data from the Val Ferret watershed in the Swiss Alps, based on daily cumulative rainfall totals recorded at 24 stations for four summers, augmented by a longer series from nearby. We compare the fits of different statistical models appropriate for spatial extremes, select that best fitting our data, and compare return level estimates for the total daily rainfall over the stations. The method can be used in other situations to produce simulations needed for hydrological models, and in particular, for the generation of spatially heterogeneous extreme rainfall fields over catchments.

Ovarian sex cord-stromal tumors are rare tumors that originate from the nongerminal cells of ovary. Two decades ago, the identification of juvenile granulosa-cell tumors (GCT), as a specific entity inside this group, allowed a better treatment of these tumors in children. However, little data have been reported on the natural course of the disease and reliable prognostic factors have not been yet defined. We here review the clinical and genetics aspects of granulosa tumors, based on a series of 40 children. This national collaborative study involved the French Society of Children Cancer and eight clinical departments of pediatric endocrinology. We found that early diagnosis of a tumor, revealed by clinical signs of hyperoestrogeny, is an important prognostic factor. The pathophysiology of these tumors is still debatable and several cellular- and molecular-abnormal signals could be implicated in their development. The role of growth factors and oncogenes through the signaling pathway of MAP kinase is still discussed. According to our data, FSH signaling-transduction pathway, such as a constitutionally activated Galphas, could also be implicated in the induction of granulosa cell proliferation and seems to modulate the invasiveness of the tumor. Last, we have described a low-expression pattern or an extinction of an ovarian-determination gene, FOXL2, which is related to a worse prognosis of this tumor.

The French Minister of Ecology and Sustainable Development asked to the French Agency of environmental sanitary security (AFSSE) a report on impacts and sanitary risks of aerial applications of pesticides on population health and ecosystems. Yhis question is a consequence of the 05/03/04 modification of the 25/02/75 directive on aérial application of pesticides for crop protection.; Le Ministère de l'écologie et du développement durable ainsi que le Ministère de la santé et de la protection sociale ont demandé l'avis de l'Agence française de sécurité sanitaire environnementale (AFSSE) concernant les risques sanitaires pour la population ainsi que les conséquences pour les écosystèmes de l'épandage aérien de produits anti-parasitaires. Cette saisine fait suite à la modification par la Direction générale de l'alimentation, par un arrêté en date du 5 mars 2004, de l'arrêté du 25 février 1975 relatif à l'utilisation par voie aérienne de produits anti-parasitaires à des fins de protection des végétaux.

International audience; The evaluation of the ecotoxicity of effluents requires a battery of biological tests on several species. In order to derive a summary parameter from such a battery, a single endpoint was calculated for all the tests : the EC10 obtained by nonlinear regression, with bootstrap evaluation of the confidence intervals. Principal component analysis was used to characterize and visualize the correlation between the tests. The table of the toxicity of the effluents was then submitted to a panel of experts, who classified the effluents according to the tests results. Partial least squares (PLS) regression was used to fit the average value of the experts judgments to the toxicity data. Furthermore PLS regression resulted in an optimum battery, with two chronic tests and one acute test. The index is intended to be used for the classification of effluents based on their toxicity to aquatic species.; L'évaluation écotoxique des effluents nécessite une batterie de tests biologiques. Nous avons utilisé la CE10 calculée par régression non linéaire avec estimation bootstrap des intervalles de confiance. Un panel d'experts nous a servi à classer les effluents et d'optimiser par régression PLS une formule de calcul corrélée au jugement des experts sur les 30 effluents. Seuls 2 tests chroniques et 1 test aigu suffisent.
