The study investigated the relationship between depressive symptoms and emotional/behavioural problems in adolescent girls (N = 553) aged 12-13 years, menarcheal status and family structure, and considered whether the effect of family structure was the same in the presence or absence of menses. The Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) were administered to a representative sample of adolescents. Results showed main effects of menarcheal status and family structure on SDQ scores and a significant interaction on CDI scores only. A non-intact family appeared to be a stronger risk factor for depressive symptomatology than for emotional/behavioural problems in menarcheal girls.

Conservation biological control (CBC) has been an active research topic for the last two decades and is now one of the key ways being explored to develop agroecological production systems. Using broad concepts and indicators, recent reviews and meta‐analyses have highlighted major inconsistencies in the responses of CBC to landscape structure, revealing their context‐dependent nature. To decipher these relations, we reviewed the scientific literature (50 articles) using (1) an original ontology allowing us to navigate across the different terms and concepts used in this literature and (2) a network‐based methodology to describe the scattering, completeness, and generalizability of scientific knowledge on CBC. An interactive version of this network is available online. Our results highlight the strong information scattering caused by the variety of indicators used to describe both landscape structure and CBC. We observe trade‐offs between the use of coarse concepts classically used in meta‐analysis (e.g., landscape complexity) and the non‐convergence of results (ambiguity). The network analysis points out consistently less information ambiguity when considering sub‐networks focused on trophic chains than in the full information network, without losing connectance. We suggest that effects of landscape structure may be different between trophic chains because of specific selection pressures associated with cropping systems. Our novel review procedure offers a relatively simple but powerful complementary approach to classical meta‐analysis to explore ecological patterns. It highlights that crop trophic chain probably represents the adequate ecological unit to investigate the landscape–CBC relationship. Designing pest suppressive landscapes while favoring farmland biodiversity will imply considering multiple crop trophic chains responding differently to landscape structure. Therefore, we recommend assessing the level of CBC at both crop field and landscape scales to inform decisions on the best individual or collective strategy to adopt. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Résumé La biotine est utilisée librement à des doses fortes (≥ 10 mg) pouvant entrainer des problèmes d'interférence sur les dosages immunologiques. Le laboratoire doit maîtriser l'impact de cette interférence. L'objectif de l'étude a été, d'une part, d'évaluer in vitro le niveau d'interférence de la biotine sur l'automate Cobas 8000 e602®, Roche Diagnostics™ sur les résultats des marqueurs cardiaques, du bilan thyroïdien, des hormones gonadotropes, de la procalcitonine, des folates et de la vitamine BI2. D'autre part, d'évaluer in vivo chez des sujets sains, l'effet de la prise de biotine (5 mg, 3 fois par jour) pendant 5 jours sur les résultats du bilan thyroïdien. Les analyses ont été faites sur le Cobas e602® et sur l'automate Advia Centaur XP® (Siemens™). L'interférence in vitro de la biotine consiste en une sous-estimation des résultats pour les dosages en méthode sandwich et en une surestimation en cas de méthode par compétition. Une variation > 10 % est observée à partir d'une concentration en biotine de 20 ng/mL pour TnThs, TSH et FT4, de 30 ng/mL pour FT3 et PCT, et supérieure à 50 ng/mL pour les autres paramètres. L'étude in vivo montre une diminution des concentrations de TSH et une augmentation de celles de FT3 mais avec des évolutions différentes entre le Cobas® et le Centaur® suggérant un impact de la biotine dans les variations observées. Si la plupart des résultats des paramètres immunologiques réalisés sur Cobas e602® peuvent être affectés suite à un traitement du patient par de la biotine à des doses supérieures ou égales à 5 mg, 3 fois par jour, cet effet ne sera notable que pour certains paramètres, TSH, FT4, FT3, TnThs et PCT. Abstract Biotin is increasingly used freely at high doses (>I0 mg) that can cause interference problems with immunoassays. The laboratory must control the impact of this interference. This paper aims to evaluate, in vitro, the level of interaction of the biotin using the Cobas 8000 e602® Roche Diagnostics™ on cardiac markers, thyroid status, gonadotrophin hormones, procalcitonin, folate and vitamin BI2. Also, to evaluate the impact, in vitro, of the biotin intake (5mg / 3 times a day) for 5 days on the thyroid blood status for healthy subjects and using Cobas e602® and Advia Centaur XP® Siemens™. The in vitro assessment of the interaction of the biotin is an underestimation of the results for the sandwich method assays and to an overestimation of the results in case of use of a competitive immunoassay method. A bias of more 10% was observed from a biotin concentration of 20 ng/mL for TnThs, TSH, FT4, 30 ng/mL for FT3 and PCT and above 50 ng/mL for other parameters. Results of our in vivo study reflects the decrease ofTSH and the increase of FT3 concentrations with an important difference between Cobas® and Centaur® which would lead us to assert the impact of biotin. If the results of the immunology assays performed on Cobas e602® may be affected when patient is treated with biotin with doses equal or greater than 5 mg, 3 times a day, this effect will be noticeable only for certain parameters like TSH, FT4, FT3, TnThs and PCT. Lost circulation is a time-consuming and expensive challenge, costing the oil and gas industry billions of dollars each year in materials, nonproductive time, and minimized production (Catalin et al. 2003; Fidan et al. 2004; API 65-2 2010). To mitigate lost circulation during cementing operations, a better understanding of how wellbore-strengthening mechanisms apply to cement slurries is necessary. The ability to control cementing-fluid properties to strengthen the wellbore and minimize losses during cementing operations is imperative for achieving adequate zonal isolation. A field analysis was performed to understand the start of lost circulation during different phases of drilling and primary cementing. Offshore wells from four different locations were studied: Gulf of Mexico (GOM), the UK, Angola, and Azerbaijan. In parallel, laboratory research was performed to understand the behavior of cement slurries in controlled lost-circulation scenarios using a block tester. Measurements of formation-breakdown pressure and fracture-propagation pressure were made with different cement-slurry compositions and compared with pressures obtained with drilling muds. In an analysis of 40 well sections that reported losses before or during primary cementing operations, the rate and severity of lost circulation varied for the wells studied, but it was concluded that losses were commonly induced while running casing or during precement-job mud circulation, but rarely during cement placement. The laboratory research confirmed the field observation: It would take much more pressure to open or reopen an existing fracture with cement slurry than with a synthetic-oil-based mud. This paper will present findings from the field analysis and laboratory research. It will also discuss strategies to prepare the wellbore for preventing losses before the cementing operation and to optimize cement formulations if losses have been induced during drilling, casing running, or prejob mud circulation.
