Das Nachdenken über Gott muss konkret werden. Unser eigenes Gottesverhältnis wird dabei ausdrücklich. So entsteht eine Vielfalt des Nachdenkens über Gott, die sich auch in den Texten der jüdisch-christlichen Tradition spiegelt. Die Disziplinen der wissenschaftlichen Theologie verdanken sich dieser Vielfalt. Eine enzyklopädische Theologie bedeutet immer auch ein Nachdenken über uns selbst und über unsere Welt. Die Vorträge der 22. Jahrestagung der Rudolf Bultmann Gesellschaft für Hermeneutische Theologie e.V. bieten einen aktuellen Ausschnitt dieses gemeinsamen Nachdenkens über Gott (mit Beiträgen von Friedhelm Hartenstein, Eberhard Hauschildt, Bernd Kuschnerus, Andreas Lindemann, Friederike Nüssel, Martin Ohst). In this way, a diversity of reflection about God is created, which is also reflected in the texts of the Jewish-Christian tradition. The disciplines of scholarly theology owe this diversity. An encyclopedic theology always also means a reflection on ourselves and on our world. The lectures of the 22nd Annual Conference of the Rudolf Bultmann Society for Hermeneutic Theology offer a current excerpt of this common reflection on God (with contributions by Friedhelm Hartenstein, Eberhard Hauschildt, Bernd Kuschnerus, Andreas Lindemann, Friederike Nüssel, Martin Ohst).

In contrast to studies of New Testament theology that ask or assume what it is, this volume investigates where it comes from. In a dialogue with Hans Dieter Betz, the contributors ask about the origins and preconditions of New Testament theology. How did it begin, both in terms of its historical stimuli and in terms of its earliest literary expressions? To what extent, if at all, did early Christians think of themselves as'doing theology'? How did early Christians come to understand their faith as an object of knowledge, and thus as theology? And, how did early Christians participate in and contribute to wider philosophical conversations about religion and what can be known about the divine in Roman antiquity?

Jahrestagung der Rudolf-Bultmann-Gesellschaft für Hermeneutische Theologie zur Aufgabe gemacht. Der Sammelband dokumentiert deren Erträge. 20 Jahre waren auch Anlass für eine Rückschau. Neben zwei Beiträgen der beiden Vorsitzenden findet sich deshalb auch eine Übersicht zu den Vorstandsmitgliedern sowie zu den Themen und Vorträgen der Jahrestagungen. Theological and Philosophical Concretions] In a time where different and sometimes contradicting truths assert themselves almost on a daily basis the claim of truth and validity of the Christian faith must be reappraised and envisioned through a constant exegesis of biblical texts. The focus of the 20th Annual Meeting of the Rudolf Bultmann Society for Hermeneutical Theology was on finding an orientation in the various interpretations of main concepts and on formulating theological and philosophical concretions. This volume documents the outcome. The 20th anniversary has also been a reason for retrospect. Therefore, overviews of board members as well as topics and lectures from the Annual Meetings are accompanying two articles by the presidents of the board.

The papers in this collection are concerned with the epistemology of religious belief. The contributors disagree on such issues as whether philosophers have a role to play in determining the reasonableness or intelligibility of religious beliefs, or whether philosophy properly understood is a descriptive task. But all the papers are informed by the belief that philosophical discussion should proceed by giving attention to the character of the religious beliefs and practices under consideration.

Theologians are increasingly looking to cultural analysis and criticism, rather than philosophy, as a dialogue partner for cross-disciplinary studies. This book explores the importance of this shift by bringing together scholars from a variety of theological perspectives to analyze different contemporary theories of culture and cultural movements. The essays here examine the theoretical relationship between theology and cultural studies and then discuss a series of controversial topics that cry out for theological reflection.
