Richly illustrated, two-volume catalogue of illuminated manuscripts and incunabula of the Austrian National Library from the collections of manuscripts and old prints as well as the music collection. lt is dedicated to the 15th century and includes a total of 164 objects from Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia and Hungary, which have been recorded and prepared for further research into book illumination from an explicitly art-historical perspective., Reich bebilderter, zweibändiger Katalog der illuminierten Handschriften und Inkunabeln der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek aus den Sammlungen der Handschriften und alten Drucke sowie der Musiksammlung. Er umfasst insgesamt 164 Objekte des 15. Jahrhunderts aus Böhmen, Mähren, Schlesien und Ungarn, die für die weitere Erforschung der Buchmalerei aus einer explizit kunsthistorischen Perspektive erfasst und aufbereitet wurden.

The catalog is dedicated to those manuscripts of the Austrian National Library which were commissioned by King Wenceslas IV (1361–1419) and the Prague court. It forms a unit together with the catalog “Central European Schools III (Bohemia - Moravia - Silesia - Hungary, ca 1350–1400)” published in 2004, and completes the investigations concerned with the art of book illumination in the Central and Eastern regions during the second half of the 14th Century., Der Katalog ist jenen Handschriften der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek gewidmet, die für König Wenzel IV. (1361–1419) und den Prager höfischen Kreis entstanden sind. Zusammen mit dem 2004 publizierten, zeitlich wie geographisch wesentlich weiter gefassten Katalog „Mitteleuropäische Schulen III (Böhmen – Mähren – Schlesien – Ungarn, ca. 1350–1400)“ bildet er eine Einheit und schließt die Behandlung der ostmitteleuropäischen Regionen der zweiten Hälfte des 14. Jahrhunderts ab.

Interdisciplinary cooperation enables the two authors to precicly localize and date one of the most lavishly produced manuscript of a medieval German epic during 15th century. With the combination of art-historical and linguistic methods the “Münchener Jüngere Titurel” (BSB, Cgm 8470) – hithero beliefed to be of Tyrolian or Vienese origin – was dated (c. 1430/35) and localised (Regensburg). The exemplary study proves the potential of cooperations within the humanities., In Zusammenarbeit eines Kunsthistorikers und eines Sprachwissenschafters gelingt es, eine der schönsten Epenhandschriften des 15. Jahrhunderts, den Münchener „Jüngeren Titurel“ sowohl zu lokalisieren als auch zu datieren. Die jeweiligen Methoden rücken die mittelalterliche Quelle ganz ins Zentrum und kommen durch in jedem einzelnen Schritt nachvollziehbare Argumente zur Überzeugung, dass der Codex um 1430/35 in Rgensburg entstand. Die Studie will exemplarisch zeigen wie groß das Potential solcher Zusammenarbeiten über enge Fachgrenzen ist.
