Rapid advancements in large language models have unlocked remarkable capabilities when it comes to processing and summarizing unstructured text data. This has implications for the analysis of rich, open-ended datasets, such as survey responses, where LLMs hold the promise of efficiently distilling key themes and sentiments. However, as organizations increasingly turn to these powerful AI systems to make sense of textual feedback, a critical question arises, can we trust LLMs to accurately represent the perspectives contained within these text based datasets? While LLMs excel at generating human-like summaries, there is a risk that their outputs may inadvertently diverge from the true substance of the original responses. Discrepancies between the LLM-generated outputs and the actual themes present in the data could lead to flawed decision-making, with far-reaching consequences for organizations. This research investigates the effectiveness of LLM-as-judge models to evaluate the thematic alignment of summaries generated by other LLMs. We utilized an Anthropic Claude model to generate thematic summaries from open-ended survey responses, with Amazon's Titan Express, Nova Pro, and Meta's Llama serving as judges. This LLM-as-judge approach was compared to human evaluations using Cohen's kappa, Spearman's rho, and Krippendorff's alpha, validating a scalable alternative to traditional human centric evaluation methods. Our findings reveal that while LLM-as-judge offer a scalable solution comparable to human raters, humans may still excel at detecting subtle, context-specific nuances. Our research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on AI assisted text analysis. In this paper we showcase the strengths of polarized neutron imaging as a magnetic imaging technique through a case study on field-cooled multifilamentary YBCO tape carrying a transport current while containing a trapped magnetic field. The measurements were done at J-PARC's RADEN beamline, measuring a radiograph of a single polarization component, to showcase the analysis potential with minimal acquisition time. Regions of internal damage are easily and accurately identified as the technique probes the internal magnetic field of the sample, thereby avoiding surface-smearing effects. Quantitative measurements of the integrated field strength in various regions are acquired using time-of-flight information. Finally, we estimate the strength of the screening currents in the superconductor during the experiment by simulating an experiment with a model sample and comparing it to the experimental data. Energy efficient, safe and reliable Li-ion batteries (LIBs) are required for a wide range of applications. Charging capabilities of thick electrodes still holding their stored high-energy is a most desirable characteristic in future advanced LIBs. The introduction of ultra-thick graphite anode meets limitations in internal electrode transport properties, leading to Li-ion gradients with detrimental consequences for battery cell performance and lifetime. Yet, there is a lack of experimental tools capable of providing a complete view of local processes and evolving gradients within such thick electrodes. Here, we introduce a multi-modal operando measurement approach, enabling quantitative spatio-temporal observations of Li concentrations and intercalation phases in ultra-thick, graphite electrodes. Neutron imaging and diffraction concurrently provide correlated information from the macroscopic scale of the cell and electrode down to the crystallographic scale portraying the intercalation and deintercalation processes. In particular, the evolving formation of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), observation of gradients in total lithium content, as well as in the formation of ordered LixC6 phases and trapped lithium have been mapped throughout the first charge-discharge cycle of the cell. Different lithiation stages co-exist during charging and discharging of an ultra-thick composite graphite-based electrode; delayed lithiation and delithiation processes are observed at the central region of the electrode, while the SEI formation, potential plating and dead lithium are predominantly found closer to the interface with the separator. The study furthermore emphasizes the potential of the method to study Li ion diffusion and the kinetics of lithiation phase formation in advanced ultra-thick electrodes.

We formalize the task of unitary Schur sampling -- an extension of weak Schur sampling -- which is the process of measuring the Young label and the unitary group register of an input $m$ qudit state. Intuitively, this task is equivalent to applying the Schur transform, projecting onto the isotypic subspaces of the unitary and symmetric groups indexed by the Young labels, and discarding of the permutation register. As such unitary Schur sampling is the natural task in processes such as quantum state tomography or spectrum estimation. We generalize this task to unitary mixed Schur sampling to account for the recently introduced mixed Schur-Weyl transform. We provide a streaming algorithm which achieves an exponential reduction in the memory complexity and a polynomial reduction in the gate complexity over na\"ive algorithms for the task of unitary (mixed) Schur sampling. Further, we show that if the input state has limited rank, the gate and memory complexities of our streaming algorithm as well as the algorithms for the full Schur and mixed Schur transforms are further reduced. Quantum state tomography is the fundamental physical task of learning a complete classical description of an unknown state of a quantum system given coherent access to many identical samples of it. The complexity of this task is commonly characterised by its sample-complexity: the minimal number of samples needed to reach a certain target precision of the description. While the sample complexity of quantum state tomography has been well studied, the memory complexity has not been investigated in depth. Indeed, the bottleneck in the implementation of na\"ive sample-optimal quantum state tomography is its massive quantum memory requirements. In this work, we propose and analyse a quantum state tomography algorithm which retains sample-optimality but is also memory-efficient. Our work is built on a form of unitary Schur sampling and only requires streaming access to the samples.

We study the infrared structure of the Standard Model (SM) restricted to the first generation of fermions, including the full SM gauge group, up to three-loop order, and determine the resulting cusp and collinear anomalous dimensions for all gauge groups and particles of the theory. We observe that starting from three loops, the resulting cusp anomalous dimensions include terms involving two distinct couplings, contrary to previous claims in the literature. We give a detailed explanation of this observation and explore the origin of these terms. We provide a supplementary file where all infrared anomalous dimensions calculated in this work are collected. Neutron imaging has gained significant importance as a material characterisation technique and is particularly useful to visualise hydrogenous materials in objects opaque to other radiations. Particular fields of application include investigations of hydrogen in metals as well as metal corrosion, thanks to the fact that neutrons can penetrate metals better than e.g. X-rays and are at the same time highly sensitive to hydrogen. However at interfaces for example those that are prone to corrosion, refraction effects sometimes obscure the attenuation image, which is used to for hydrogen quantification. Refraction, as a differential phase effect, diverts the neutron beam away from the interface in the image which leads to intensity gain and intensity loss regions, which are superimposed to the attenuation image, thus obscuring the interface region and hindering quantitative analyses of e.g. hydrogen content in the vicinity of the interface or in an oxide layer. For corresponding effects in X-ray imaging, a phase filter approach was developed and is generally based on transport-of-intensity considerations. Here, we compare such an approach, that has been adapted to neutrons, with another simulation-based assessment using the ray-tracing software McStas. The latter appears superior and promising for future extensions which enable fitting forward models via simulations in order to separate phase and attenuation effects and thus pave the way for overcoming quantitative limitations at refracting interfaces.

This paper introduces a new method of discretization that collocates both endpoints of the domain and enables the complete convergence of the costate variables associated with the Hamilton boundary-value problem. This is achieved through the inclusion of an \emph{exceptional sample} to the roots of the Legendre-Lobatto polynomial, thus promoting the associated differentiation matrix to be full-rank. We study the location of the new sample such that the differentiation matrix is the most robust to perturbations and we prove that this location is also the choice that mitigates the Runge phenomenon associated with polynomial interpolation. Two benchmark problems are successfully implemented in support of our theoretical findings. The new method is observed to converge exponentially with the number of discretization points used.

Augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) hold significant potential to transform how we communicate, collaborate, and interact with others. However, there has been a lack of work to date investigating accessibility barriers in relation to immersive technologies for people with disabilities. To address current gaps in knowledge, we led two multidisciplinary Sandpits with key stakeholders (including academic researchers, AR/VR industry specialists, people with lived experience of disability, assistive technologists, and representatives from national charities and special needs colleges) to collaboratively explore and identify existing challenges with AR and VR experiences. We present key themes that emerged from Sandpit activities and map out the interaction barriers identified across a spectrum of impairments (including physical, cognitive, visual, and auditory disabilities). We conclude with recommendations for future work addressing the challenges highlighted to support the development of more inclusive AR and VR experiences., Comment: Universal Access in the Information Society (2023)

Eclipsing binary stars with an oscillating giant component allow accurate stellar parameters to be derived and asteroseismic methods to be tested and calibrated. To this aim, suitable systems need to be firstly identified and secondly measured precisely and accurately. KIC 4054905 is one such system, which has been identified, but with measurements of a relatively low precision and with some confusion regarding its parameters and evolutionary state. Our aim is to provide a detailed and precise characterisation of the system and to test asteroseismic scaling relations. Dynamical and asteroseismic parameters of KIC4054905 were determined from Kepler photometry and multi-epoch high-resolution spectra from FIES at the Nordic Optical Telescope. KIC 4054905 was found to belong to the thick disk and consist of two lower red giant branch (RGB) components with nearly identical masses of 0.95$M_{\odot}$ and an age of $9.9\pm0.6$ Gyr. The most evolved star displays solar-like oscillations, which suggest that the star belongs to the RGB, supported also by the radius, which is significantly smaller than the red clump phase for this mass and metallicity. Masses and radii from corrected asteroseismic scaling relations can be brought into full agreement with the dynamical values if the RGB phase is assumed, but a best scaling method could not be identified. We measured dynamical masses and radii with a precision better than 1.0%. We firmly establish the evolutionary nature of the system to be that of two early RGB stars with an age close to 10 Gyr, unlike previous findings. The metallicity and Galactic velocity suggest that the system belongs to the thick disk of the Milky Way. We investigate the agreement between dynamical and asteroseismic parameters for KIC 4054905. We demonstrate the use of a phase retrieval technique for propagation-based phase contrast neutron imaging with a polychromatic beam. This enables imaging samples with low absorption contrast and/or improving the signal-to-noise ratio to facilitate e.g. time resolved measurements. A metal sample, designed to be close to a pure phase object, and a bone sample with canals partially filled with D2O were used for demonstrating the technique. These samples were imaged with a polychromatic neutron beam followed by phase retrieval. For both samples the signal-to-noise ratio were significantly improved and in case of the bone sample, the phase retrieval allowed for separation of bone and D2O, which is important for example for in situ flow experiments. The use of deuteration-contrast avoids the use of chemical contrast enhancement and makes neutron imaging an interesting complementary method to X-ray imaging of bone.

The DFN (Doyle-Fuller-Newman) model is well know for being accurate and computationally expensive. In situations where temperature gradients are important (eg fast charging) it is desirable to couple the temperature dynamics within a battery into the DFN model. This leads to even greater computational complexity. Inspired by the work of Marquis et al [1] we present the derivation of a reduced-order model based on the DFN model with temperature in the macroscale. The complexity of the reduced-order model is characterised by the local temperature plus one internal electro-chemical dimension and the electrolyte dynamics is accounted for by a simple correction term., Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures

Within the framework proposed by Caron-Huot and Wilhelm, we give a recipe for computing infrared anomalous dimensions purely on-shell, efficiently up to two loops in any massless theory. After introducing the general formalism and reviewing the one-loop recipe, we extract a practical formula that relates two-loop infrared anomalous dimensions to certain two- and three-particle phase space integrals with tree-level form factors of conserved operators. We then provide several examples of the use of the two-loop formula and comment on some of its formal aspects, especially the cancellation of 'one-loop squared' spurious terms. The present version of the paper is augmented with a detailed treatment of the structure of infrared divergences in massless theories of scalars and fermions up to two loops. In the calculation we encounter divergent phase space integrals and show in detail how these cancel among each other as required by the finiteness of the anomalous dimension. The universal theory of critical phase transitions describes the critical behavior at second-order phase transitions in infinitely large systems. With the increased contemporary interest in nanoscale materials, we investigated CoO nanoparticles by means of neutron scattering and found how the theory of critical phenomena breaks down in the nanoscale regime. Using CoO as a model system, we have identified a size-dependent nanocritical temperature region close to the antiferromagnetic phase transition where the magnetic correlation length of the nanoparticles converges to a constant value, which is significantly smaller than that of the saturated state found at low temperatures. This is in clear contrast to the divergence around $T_{\rm N}$ observed for bulk systems. Our findings of nanocriticality in the magnetic phase transition is of great importance for the understanding of phase transitions at the nanoscale.

We show that partial dislocations, defects that naturally arise in bilayer graphene, host an analogue of the mass inversion Volkov-Pankratov (VP) states, the spectrum of excited states at a topologically non-trivial interface. In contrast to the dislocation states arising from the change in valley Chern index, such states (i) exist both with and without an interlayer bias, i.e. for metallic as well as insulating bulk and (ii) have distinct electron and hole bound states, whose number is proportional to the dislocation width. Recently discovered at heterojunctions of 3d topological insulators, their existence at the partial dislocations of a 2d material opens a rich structural playground for their investigation, and we demonstrate that the dislocation type, i.e. screw or edge, as well as the dislocation width, both play a decisive role in the creation of a topological spectrum of exited states.

We present a method to manipulate the final morphology of roll-to-roll slot-die coated poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) by optically exciting the p-type polymer in solution while coating. Our results provide a comprehensive picture of the entire knowledge chain, from demonstrating how to apply our method to a fundamental understanding of the changes in morphology and physical properties induced by exciting P3HT while coating. By combining results from density functional theory and molecular dynamics simulations with a variety of X-ray experiments, absorption spectroscopy, and THz spectroscopy, we demonstrate the relationship between morphology and physical properties of the thin film. Specifically, in P3HT films excited with light during deposition, we observe changes in crystallinity and texture with more face-on orientation and increased out-of-plane charge mobility.

How much does a CEO's personality impact the performance of their company? Management theory posits a great influence, but it is difficult to show empirically -- there is a lack of publicly available self-reported personality data of top managers. Instead, we propose a text-based personality regressor using crowd-sourced Myers--Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessments. The ratings have a high internal and external validity and can be predicted with moderate to strong correlations for three out of four dimensions. Providing evidence for the upper echelons theory, we demonstrate that the predicted CEO personalities have explanatory power of financial risk.

In this paper we present the complete expressions of the lepton and neutron electric dipole moments (EDMs) in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT), up to 1-loop and dimension-6 level and including both RG running contributions and finite corrections. The latter play a fundamental role in the cases of operators that do not renormalize the dipoles, but there are also classes of operators for which they provide an important fraction, $10-20\%$, of the total 1-loop contribution, if the new physics scale is around $\Lambda=5$ TeV. We present the full set of bounds on each individual Wilson coefficient contributing to the EDMs using both the current experimental constraints, as well as those from future experiments, which are expected to improve by at least an order of magnitude., Comment: 32 pages plus appendices, 17 figures, 15 tables
