Abstract

Abstract Background Asthma is one of the most common causes of chronic respiratory disease, and countries with low socioeconomic status have both a high prevalence of asthma and asthma‐related death. Objective In this study, we aimed to determine socioeconomic levels of asthmatic patients according to a national database and investigate the effects of social markers on disease control in our region. Methods This is an analysis of data from 2053 adult asthma patients from a multicentre chart study in Turkey. Socioeconomic status (SES) data were collected from questionnaires and this form was sent to the patients via e‐mail. Parameters related to social status and poor disease control were analyzed. Results Illiteracy (OR:2.687 [95% CI: 1.235–5.848]; p = 0.013) and lower household income (OR:1,76 [95% CI: 1.002–3.09]; p = 0.049) were found as independent risk factors for hospitalization in the multivariate logistic regression analysis. Therewithal, being aged between 40 and 60 (OR: 1.435 [95% CI: 1.074–1.917]; p = 0.015), illiteracy (OR: 2.188 [95% CI: 1.262–3.795]; p = 0.005) and being employed (OR: 1.466 [95% CI: 1.085–1.847]; p = 0.011) were considered as independent risk factors for systemic corticosteroid use at least 3 days within last 1 year. Conclusion As a result of our national database, education level, household income and working status briefly socioeconomic status have impacts on asthma control. Identification of social markers in asthma and better recognition of risk factors based on the population gives us clues to provide better asthma control in the future.

Abstract

İnsanlı veya insansız hava araç sistemleri ile birlikte keşif ve gözetleme, kara ve sınır güvenliği, arama ve kurtarma operasyonları gibi önemli faaliyetler yürütülür. Özellikle insansız hava araçlarının kullanımı ile hem sivil hem askeri uygulamalarda bilgi edinilmesi ve müdahale edilmesi kolaylaşmaktadır. İyi bir görev planlama yapılması faaliyetlerin başarı ile yürütülmesi için büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu çalışmada bölgesel gözetleme yapan hava keşif araçları için görev planlaması yapılmıştır. Bir hava aracı kalkış noktasından göreve başlayarak hedef bölgeleri gözetlemekte ve kalkış noktasına dönmektedir. Çalışmada hedefler, literatürdeki genel yaklaşım olan düğüm ile temsil edilmenin aksine, dikdörtgen alanlar olarak temsil edilmiştir. Bu alanların içini şeritler halinde tarayarak hedeften bilgi edinilmektedir. Rotalar oluşturulurken birbiri ile çelişen iki amaç gözetilmiştir. Birincisi uğranılan hedeflerden elde edilen toplam bilgiyi maksimize etmek ikincisi ise görev boyunca kat edilen toplam mesafeyi minimize etmektir. Etkin çözümlerin bulunması için iki amaçlı karma tam sayılı programlama modeli geliştirilmiş ve epsilon-kısıt yöntemi ile çözülmüştür. Büyük boyutlu problemler için de bir sezgisel çözüm yöntemi önerilmiştir. Tüm çözüm yöntemleri farklı boyutlardaki problemlerde karşılaştırılmıştır.

Abstract

In recent years, heavy metals derived from several anthropogenic sources have both direct and indirect detrimental effects on the health of the environment and living organisms. Whole-cell bioreporters (WCBs) that can be used to monitor the levels of heavy metals in drinking and natural spring waters are important. In this study, whole-cell arsenic bacterial bioreporters were immobilized using polycaprolactone (PCL) electrospun fibers as the support material. The aim is to determine the properties of this immobilized bioreporter system by evaluating its performance in arsenic detection. Within the scope of the study, different growth media and fiber immobilization times were tested to determine the parameters affecting the fluorescent signals emitted by the immobilized bioreporter system in the presence of two dominant forms of arsenic, namely arsenite (As(III)) and arsenate (As(V)). In addition, the sensitivity, selectivity, response time, and shelf-life of the developed bioreporter system were evaluated. As far as the literature is concerned, this is the first study to investigate the potential of using PCL-electrospun fiber-immobilized fluorescent bacterial bioreporter for arsenic detection. Abstract

Hydrogel skin grafts provide a moist environment and act as a regenerative template to the newly formed tissue. In this study, we developed 3D-bio-printed hydrogels using methacrylated pectin and methacrylated gelatin together with an antibacterial agent (curcumin), a bioactive agent (Vitamin-C) and fibroblast cells. Curcumin release was almost 10 times higher at pH 7.4 than pH 5.0, and it demonstrated antimicrobial affinity against Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative Escherichia coli. The developed 3D-bio-printed hydrogels containing cells and bioactive agents demonstrated high cell viability, cell proliferation, and collagen production, and are promising skin graft candidates for the treatment of full-thickness problematic wounds. Abstract

Objective: The aim was to evaluate relationship between apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values with pathologic prognostic factors in breast carcinoma (BC).Materials and Methods: 83 patients were enrolled in this study. Prognostic factors included age, tumor size, expression of estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), nuclear grade (NG), lymph node involvement and histologic type. The relationship between ADC and prognostic factors was determined using Independent sample t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and relative operating characteristics (ROC) analysis.Results: There was no significant difference between ADC and prognostic factors, including age, tumor size, ER, HER2 and histologic type. The PRpositive tumors (p=0.03) and axillary lymph node involvement (p=0.000) showed a significant association with lower ADC values. The ADC values were significantly lower in high-grade tumors than low-grade tumors (p=0.000). ROC analysis showed an optimal ADC threshold of 0.66 (×10-3 mm2/s) for differentiating low-grade tumors from high-grade tumors (sensitivity, 85.5%; specificity, 81%; area under curve, 0.90).Conclusion: The lower ADC values of BC were significantly associated with positive expression of PR, LN positivity and high-grade tumor. İnsansız hava araçlarının (İHA’ların) askeri ve sivil amaçlarla artan kullanımı ile birlikte İHA rotalama problemi önem kazanmaktadır. İHA’ların sayısı ve özellikleri, rotalama yapılan alanın özellikleri ve kullanılan amaç fonksiyonları gibi faktörlerle değişkenlik gösteren bu problem için literatürde farklı yaklaşımlar geliştirilmiştir. Bu çalışmada, bir üsten ayrıldıktan sonra farklı önem derecelerine sahip olan hedef noktalarına uğrayarak geri dönmesi gereken özdeş bir İHA filosunun rota planlama problemi ele alınmıştır. Toplam mesafenin minimize edilmesi ve ziyaret edilen hedeflerin toplam önemlerinin maksimize edilmesi şeklinde iki amaç fonksiyonu kullanılmış, tek bir çözüm yerine alternatif etkin çözümler üretilmiştir. Problem matematiksel model ve genetik algoritma yaklaşımları ile çözülmüş, farklı sayıda İHA ve hedef noktaları ile sayısal testler yapılmıştır. İki yöntemle de karar vericilere sunmak üzere amaç uzayının farklı bölgelerinden çözümler elde edilebilmiştir. Ayrıca, genetik algoritma ile çok daha kısa sürelerde kesin çözümlere yakın çözümler bulunabildiği görülmüştür.
