1. A study of radiation tolerance in optical cements

Abstract: We study the effect ionizing radiation has on light transmission in the wavelength range 190--1100~nm for a number of optically clear epoxies. We find that the transmittance of traditional, commercially available, optical epoxies show significant degradation for exposures of $1\times10^{12}$~MIPs/cm$^2$. Degradation of light transmission progresses from the shortest wavelengths at low doses to longer wavelengths as the dose increases. In epoxy joints that are 0.1~mm thick, we observe that more than 5\% of the light is lost for wavelengths less than 400~nm for traditional optical epoxies. Our studies have identified an optically clear epoxy that shows little degradation for radiation exposures up to $5.9\times 10^{14}$~MIPs/cm$^2$ ($\approx 220$~kGy)., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures. 2. Foil Scattering Model for Fermilab Booster

Abstract: At the Fermilab Booster, and many other proton facili-ties, an intense proton beam is accumulated by multi-turn injection of an H- beam through a stripping foil. The circu-lating beam scatters off the injection foil and large-angle Coulomb scattering leads to uncontrolled losses concen-trated in the first betatron period. We measure the foil scat-tering loss rate in the Fermilab Booster as a function of LINAC current, number of injection turns, and time on the injection foil. We find that current Booster operation has ~1% foil scattering loss and we make projections for the Proton Improvement Plan II (PIP-II) injector upgrade. Abstract: Although the proton was discovered about 100 years ago, its spin structure still remains a mystery. Recent studies suggest that the orbital angular momentum of sea quarks could significantly contribute to the proton's spin. The SeaQuest experiment, which recently completed data collection, probed the unpolarized light quark sea distributions of the proton using the Drell-Yan process. Its successor, the SpinQuest (E1039), will access the $\bar{u}$ and $\bar{d}$ Sivers functions using polarized NH$_3$ and ND$_3$ targets. A non-zero Sivers asymmetry, observed in SpinQuest, would be a strong indication of non-zero sea-quark orbital angular momentum. The SpinQuest experiment can also probe the sea quark's transversity distribution, which is relevant for the determination of proton's tensor charge. Recent study suggests that sea-quarks might contribute significantly to deuteron's tensor polarized structure functions. This can be further probed in SpinQuest using tensor polarized ND$_3$ target. The current status and future plan of the experiment are presented.

Abstract: We describe the power distribution systems and grounding schemes built for the near and far detectors of the NOvA long-baseline neutrino experiment. They are used to power the avalanche photodiodes and their thermoelectric coolers, the front-end boards that read out, digitize and time stamp the signals from the avalanche photodiodes, and the data concentrator modules used to receive and format the data from the front-end boards before sending them to a farm of computers used to build the events. The system powers 344,064 readout channels in the far detector and 20,192 channels in the near detector.

Abstract: This article reports world averages of measurements of $b$-hadron, $c$-hadron, and $\tau$-lepton properties obtained by the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group using results available through summer 2016. For the averaging, common input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and known correlations are taken into account. Abstract: This paper reports the first measurement using the NOvA detectors of $\nu_\mu$ disappearance in a $\nu_\mu$ beam. The analysis uses a 14 kton-equivalent exposure of $2.74 \times 10^{20}$ protons-on-target from the Fermilab NuMI beam. Assuming the normal neutrino mass hierarchy, we measure $\Delta m^{2}_{32}=(2.52^{+0.20}_{-0.18})\times 10^{-3}$ eV$^{2}$ and $\sin^2\theta_{23}$ in the range 0.38-0.65, both at the 68% confidence level, with two statistically-degenerate best fit points at $\sin^2\theta_{23} = $ 0.43 and 0.60. Abstract: We report results from the first search for $\nu_\mu\to\nu_e$ transitions by the NOvA experiment. In an exposure equivalent to $2.74\times10^{20}$ protons-on-target in the upgraded NuMI beam at Fermilab, we observe 6 events in the Far Detector, compared to a background expectation of $0.99\pm0.11$ (syst.) events based on the Near Detector measurement. A secondary analysis observes 11 events with a background of $1.07\pm0.14$ (syst.). The $3.3\sigma$ excess of events observed in the primary analysis disfavors $0.1\pi < \delta_{CP} < 0.5\pi$ in the inverted mass hierarchy at the 90% C.L., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures. Abstract: The Fermilab Booster is being upgraded under the Proton Improvement Plan (PIP) to be capable of providing a proton flux of $2.25^{17}$ protons per hour. The intensity per cycle will remain at the present operational $4.3^{12}$ protons per pulse, however the Booster beam cycle rate is going to be increased from 7.5 Hz to 15 Hz. One of the biggest challenges is to maintain the present beam loss power while the doubling the beam flux. Under PIP, there has been a large effort in beam studies and simulations to better understand the mechanisms of the beam loss. The goal is to reduce it by half by correcting and controlling the beam dynamics and by improving operational systems through hardware upgrades. Abstract: The Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) pursues a broad physics program at Fermilab's Tevatron collider. Between Run II commissioning in early 2001 and the end of operations in September 2011, the Tevatron delivered 12 fb-1 of integrated luminosity of p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. Many physics analyses undertaken by CDF require heavy flavor tagging with large charged particle tracking acceptance. To realize these goals, in 2001 CDF installed eight layers of silicon microstrip detectors around its interaction region. These detectors were designed for 2--5 years of operation, radiation doses up to 2 Mrad (0.02 Gy), and were expected to be replaced in 2004. The sensors were not replaced, and the Tevatron run was extended for several years beyond its design, exposing the sensors and electronics to much higher radiation doses than anticipated. In this paper we describe the operational challenges encountered over the past 10 years of running the CDF silicon detectors, the preventive measures undertaken, and the improvements made along the way to ensure their optimal performance for collecting high quality physics data. In addition, we describe the quantities and methods used to monitor radiation damage in the sensors for optimal performance and summarize the detector performance quantities important to CDF's physics program, including vertex resolution, heavy flavor tagging, and silicon vertex trigger performance., Comment: Preprint accepted for publication in Nuclear Instruments and Methods A (07/31/2013)

Abstract: The MiniBooNE and SciBooNE collaborations report the results of a joint search for short baseline disappearance of \bar{{\nu}_{\mu}} at Fermilab's Booster Neutrino Beamline. The MiniBooNE Cherenkov detector and the SciBooNE tracking detector observe antineutrinos from the same beam, therefore the combined analysis of their datasets serves to partially constrain some of the flux and cross section uncertainties. Uncertainties in the {\nu}_{\mu} background were constrained by neutrino flux and cross section measurements performed in both detectors. A likelihood ratio method was used to set a 90% confidence level upper limit on \bar{{\nu}_{\mu}} disappearance that dramatically improves upon prior limits in the {\Delta}m^2=0.1-100 eV^2 region., Comment: 15 pages, 27 figures

Abstract: The T980 crystal collimation experiment is underway at the Tevatron to determine if this technique could increase 980 GeV beam-halo collimation efficiency at high-energy hadron colliders such as the Tevatron and the LHC. T980 also studies various crystal types and parameters. The setup has been substantially enhanced during the Summer 2009 shutdown by installing a new O-shaped crystal in the horizontal goniometer, as well as adding a vertical goniometer with two alternating crystals (O-shaped and multi-strip) and additional beam diagnostics. First measurements with the new system are quite encouraging, with channeled and volume-reflected beams observed on the secondary collimators as predicted. Investigation of crystal collimation efficiencies with crystals in volume reflection and channeling modes are described in comparison with an amorphous primary collimator. Results on the system performance are presented for the end-of-store studies and for entire collider stores. The first investigation of colliding beam collimation simultaneously using crystals in both the vertical and horizontal plane has been made in the regime with horizontally channeled and vertically volume-reflected beams. Abstract: The SciBooNE and MiniBooNE collaborations report the results of a \nu_\mu disappearance search in the \Delta m^2 region of 0.5-40 eV^2. The neutrino rate as measured by the SciBooNE tracking detectors is used to constrain the rate at the MiniBooNE Cherenkov detector in the first joint analysis of data from both collaborations. Abstract: The SciBooNE Collaboration reports K+ production cross section and rate measurements using high energy daughter muon neutrino scattering data off the SciBar polystyrene (C8H8) target in the SciBooNE detector. The K+ mesons are produced by 8 GeV protons striking a beryllium target in Fermilab Booster Neutrino Beam line (BNB). Using observed neutrino and antineutrino events in SciBooNE, we measure d2{\sigma}/dpd{\Omega} = (5.34 \times 0.76) mb/(GeV/c \times sr) for p + Be -> K+ + X at mean K+ energy of 3.9 GeV and angle (with respect to the proton beam direction) of 3.7 degrees, corresponding to the selected K+ sample. Compared to Monte Carlo predictions using previous higher energy K+ production measurements, this measurement, which uses the NUANCE neutrino interaction generator, is consistent with a normalization factor of 0.85\times0.12. This agreement is evidence that the extrapolation of the higher energy K+ measurements to an 8 GeV beam energy using Feynman scaling is valid. This measurement reduces the error on the K+ production cross section from 40% to 14%., Comment: 24 pages, 19 figures

Abstract: The SciBooNE Collaboration reports a measurement of inclusive charged current interactions of muon neutrinos on carbon with an average energy of 0.8 GeV using the Fermilab Booster Neutrino Beam. This is the first measurement of the CC inclusive cross section on carbon around 1 GeV. Abstract: The SciBooNE Collaboration reports inclusive neutral current neutral pion production by a muon neutrino beam on a polystyrene target (C8H8). We obtain (7.7 \pm 0.5(stat.) \pm 0.5 (sys.)) x 10^(-2) as the ratio of the neutral current neutral pion production to total charged current cross section; the mean energy of neutrinos producing detected neutral pions is 1.1 GeV. The result agrees with the Rein-Sehgal model implemented in our neutrino interaction simulation program with nuclear effects. The spectrum shape of the neutral pion momentum and angle agree with the model. Abstract: We report on a search for pair production of first-generation scalar leptoquarks ($LQ$) in $p \bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=1.96 TeV using an integrated luminosity of 203 $pb^{-1}$ collected at the Fermilab Tevatron collider by the CDF experiment. We observe no evidence for $LQ$ production in the topologies arising from $LQ \bar{LQ} \to eqeq$ and $LQ \bar{LQ} \to eq \nu q$, and derive 95% C.L. upper limits on the $LQ$ production cross section. %as a function of $\beta$, where $\beta$ is the branching fraction for $LQ \to eq$. The results are combined with those obtained from a separately reported CDF search in the topology arising from $LQ\bar{LQ} \to \nu q \nu q$ and 95% C.L. lower limits on the LQ mass as a function of $\beta = BR(LQ \to eq) $ are derived. The limits are 236, 205 and 145 GeV/c$^2$ for $\beta$ = 1, $\beta$ = 0.5 and $\beta$ = 0.1, respectively., Comment: submitted to PRL

Abstract: The properties of three-jet events with total transverse energy greater than 320 GeV and individual jet energy greater than 20 GeV have been analyzed and compared to absolute predictions from a next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculation. These data, of integrated luminosity 86 pb^-1, were recorded by the CDF Experiment for proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV. This study tests a model of higher order QCD processes that result in gluon emission and can be used to estimate the magnitude of the contribution of processes higher than NLO. The total cross section is measured to be 466 +/- 3(stat.)^{+207}_{-70}(syst.) pb. The differential cross section is furthermore measured for all kinematically accessible regions of the Dalitz plane, including those for which the theoretical prediction is unreliable. While the measured cross section is consistent with the theoretical prediction in magnitude, the two differ somewhat in shape in the Dalitz plane.

Abstract: The Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) pursues a broad physics program at Fermilab's Tevatron collider. Between Run II commissioning in early 2001 and the end of operations in September 2011, the Tevatron delivered 12 fb-1 of integrated luminosity of pp̄ collisions at s=1.96TeV. The physics at CDF includes precise measurements of the masses of the top quark and W boson, measurement of CP violation and Bs mixing, and searches for Higgs bosons and new physics signatures, all of which require heavy flavor tagging with large charged particle tracking acceptance. To realize these goals, in 2001 CDF installed eight layers of silicon microstrip detectors around its interaction region. These detectors were designed for 2-5 years of operation, radiation doses up to 2 Mrad (0.02 Gy), and were expected to be replaced in 2004. The sensors were not replaced, and the Tevatron run was extended for several years beyond its design, exposing the sensors and electronics to much higher radiation doses than anticipated. In this paper we describe the operational challenges encountered over the past 10 years of running the CDF silicon detectors, the preventive measures undertaken, and the improvements made along the way to ensure their optimal performance for collecting high quality physics data. In addition, we describe the quantities and methods used to monitor radiation damage in the sensors for optimal performance and summarize the detector performance quantities important to CDF's physics program, including vertex resolution, heavy flavor tagging, and silicon vertex trigger performance. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.

Abstract: We present a measurement of relative partial widths and decay rate CP asymmetries in K−K+ and π−π+ decays of D0 mesons produced in pp¯ collisions at s√=1.96 TeV. We use a sample of 2×105 D*+→D0π+ (and charge conjugate) decays with the D0 decaying to K−π+, K−K+, and π−π+, corresponding to 123 pb−1 of data collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab II experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. No significant direct CP violation is observed. We measure Γ(D0→K−K+)/Γ(D0→K−π+)=0.0992±0.0011±0.0012, Γ(D0→π−π+)/Γ(D0→K−π+)=0.035 94±0.000 54±0.000 40, ACP(K−K+)=(2.0±1.2±0.6)%, and ACP(π−π+)=(1.0±1.3±0.6)%, where, in all cases, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Abstract: The inherent properties of diamond make it an ideal material for detectors in the high rate, high radiation environments near the collision point of future colliders such as the LHC. We have constructed charged particle position sensitive detectors using high quality Chemical Vapor Deposited (CVD) diamond. Using detectors with a 50 [[micro]meter] strip pitch, we achieved a most probable signal-to-noise ratio of 27/1 and a position resolution of 1215 [[micro]meter]. To ascertain the radiation hardness properties of CVD diamond, we have exposed detectors to 10 MRad 60Co, 5 x [10.sup.14] 300 MeV pions/[cm.sup.2], [10.sup.14] 500 MeV protons/[cm.sup.2], and [10.sup.15] neutrons/[cm.sup.2]. The results show that CVD diamond is an extremely radiation hard material and well suited for particle detector production.

Abstract: We present results from a measurement of double diffraction dissociation in $\bar pp$ collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The production cross section for events with a central pseudorapidity gap of width $\Delta\eta^0>3$ (overlapping $\eta=0$) is found to be $4.43\pm 0.02{(stat)}{\pm 1.18}{(syst) mb}$ [$3.42\pm 0.01{(stat)}{\pm 1.09}{(syst) mb}$] at $\sqrt{s}=1800$ [630] GeV. Abstract: This paper reports the first measurement using the NOvA detectors of nu(mu) disappearance in a nu(mu) beam. The analysis uses a 14 kton-equivalent exposure of 2.74 x 10(20) protons-on-target from the Fermilab NuMI beam. Assuming the normal neutrino mass hierarchy, we measure Delta m(32)(2) = (2.52(-0.18)(+0.20)) x 10(-3) eV(2) and sin(2) theta(23) in the range 0.38-0.65, both at the 68% confidence level, with two statistically degenerate best-fit points at sin(2) theta(23) = 0.43 and 0.60. Results for the inverted mass hierarchy are also presented.

Abstract: We report results from the first search for nu(mu) -> nu(e) transitions by the NOvA experiment. In an exposure equivalent to 2.74 x 10(20) protons on target in the upgraded NuMI beam at Fermilab, we observe 6 events in the Far Detector, compared to a background expectation of 0.99 +/- 0.11 (syst) events based on the Near Detector measurement. A secondary analysis observes 11 events with a background of 1.07 +/- 0.14 (syst). The 3.3 sigma excess of events observed in the primary analysis disfavors 0.1 pi < delta(CP) < 0.5 pi in the inverted mass hierarchy at the 90% C.L.

Abstract: We report the observation of the bottom, doubly-strange baryon Omega(-)(b) through the decay chain Omega(-)(b)-> j/psi Omega(-), where J/psi ->mu(+)mu(-), Omega(-)->Lambda K(-), and Lambda -> p pi(-), using 4.2 fb(-1) of data from p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV, and recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. A signal is observed whose The Omega(-)(b) mass is measured to be 6054.4 +/- 6.8(stat) +/- 0.9(syst) MeV/c(2). The lifetime of the Omega(-)(b) baryon is measured to be 1.13(-0.40)(+0.53)(stat) +/- 0.02(syst) ps. In addition, for the Xi(-)(b) baryon we measure a mass of 5790.9 +/- 2.6(stat) +/- 0.8(syst) MeV/c(2) and a lifetime of 1.56(-0.25)(+0.27)(stat) +/- 0.02(syst) ps. Under the assumption that the Xi(-)(b) and Omega(-)(b) are produced with similar kinematic distributions to the Lambda(0)(b) baryon, we find sigma(Xi(-)(b))B(Xi(-)(b)-> J/psi Xi(-)/sigma(Lambda(0)(b))B(Lambda(0)(b)-> J/psi Lambda) = 0.167(-0.025)(+0.037)(stat) +/- 0.012(syst) and sigma(Omega(-)(b))B(Omega(-)(b)-> J/psi Omega(-)/sigma(Lambda(0)(b))B(Lambda(0)(b)-> J/psi Lambda) = 0.045(-0.012)(+0.017)(stat) +/- 0.004(syst) for baryons produced with transverse momentum in the range of 6-20 GeV/c.

Abstract: We search for new charmless decays of neutral b hadrons to pairs of charged hadrons, using 1 fb(-1) of data collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We report the first observation of the B(s)(0)-> K(-)pi(+) decay and measure B(B(s)(0)-> K(-)pi(+))=(5.0 +/- 0.7(stat)+/- 0.8(syst))x10(-6). We also report the first observation of charmless b-baryon decays, and measure B(Lambda(0)(b)-> p pi(-))=(3.5 +/- 0.6(stat)+/- 0.9(syst))x10(-6) and B(Lambda(0)(b)-> pK(-))=(5.6 +/- 0.8(stat)+/- 1.5(syst))x10(-6). No evidence is found for other modes, and we set the limit B(B(s)(0)->pi(+)pi(-))< 1.2x10(-6) at 90% C.L.

Abstract: This article reports world averages of measurements of b-hadron, c-hadron, and tau-lepton properties obtained by the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group (HFAG) using results available through the end of 2011. In some cases results available in the early part of 2012 are included. For the averaging, common input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and known correlations are taken into account. The averages include branching fractions, lifetimes, neutral meson mixing parameters, CP violation parameters, parameters of semileptonic decays and CKM matrix elements.

Abstract: The T980 crystal collimation experiment is underway at the Tevatron to determine if this technique could increase 980 GeV beam-halo collimation efficiency at high-energy hadron colliders such as the Tevatron and the LHC. T980 also studies various crystal types and parameters. The setup has been substantially enhanced during the Summer 2009 shutdown by installing a new O-shaped crystal in the horizontal goniometer, as well as adding a vertical goniometer with two alternating crystals (O-shaped and multi-strip) and additional beam diagnostics. First measurements with the new system are quite encouraging, with channeled and volume-reflected beams observed on the secondary collimators as predicted. Investigation of crystal collimation efficiencies with crystals in volume reflection and channeling modes are described in comparison with an amorphous primary collimator. Results on the system performance are presented for the end-of-store studies and for entire collider stores. The first investigation of colliding beam collimation simultaneously using crystals in both the vertical and horizontal plane has been made in the regime with horizontally channeled and vertically volume-reflected beams. Abstract: The MiniBooNE and SciBooNE collaborations report the results of a joint search for short baseline disappearance of \bar{��_��} at Fermilab's Booster Neutrino Beamline. The MiniBooNE Cherenkov detector and the SciBooNE tracking detector observe antineutrinos from the same beam, therefore the combined analysis of their datasets serves to partially constrain some of the flux and cross section uncertainties. Uncertainties in the ��_�� background were constrained by neutrino flux and cross section measurements performed in both detectors. A likelihood ratio method was used to set a 90% confidence level upper limit on \bar{��_��} disappearance that dramatically improves upon prior limits in the ��m^2=0.1-100 eV^2 region., 15 pages, 27 figures

Abstract: We report a measurement of inclusive charged current interactions of muon neutrinos on carbon with an average energy of 0.8 GeV using the Fermilab Booster Neutrino Beam. We compare our measurement with two neutrino interaction simulations: NEUT and NUANCE. The charged current interaction rates (product of flux and cross section) are extracted by fitting the muon kinematics, with a precision of 6%-15% for the energy dependent and 3% for the energy integrated analyses. We also extract charged current inclusive interaction cross sections from the observed rates, with a precision of 10%-30% for the energy dependent and 8% for the energy integrated analyses. This is the first measurement of the charged current inclusive cross section on carbon around 1 GeV. These results can be used to convert previous SciBooNE cross-section ratio measurements to absolute cross-section values., We acknowledge the Physics Department at Chonnam National University, Dongshin University, and Seoul National University for the loan of parts used in SciBar and the help in the assembly of SciBar. Abstract: The SciBooNE and MiniBooNE collaborations report the results of a ��_��disappearance search in the ��m^2 region of 0.5-40 eV^2. The neutrino rate as measured by the SciBooNE tracking detectors is used to constrain the rate at the MiniBooNE Cherenkov detector in the first joint analysis of data from both collaborations. Two separate analyses of the combined data samples set 90% confidence level (CL) limits on ��_��disappearance in the 0.5-40 eV^2 ��m^2 region, with an improvement over previous experimental constraints between 10 and 30 eV^2., 10 pages, 9 figures. Abstract: We search for b –> s mu(+)mu(-) transitions in B meson (B+, B-0, or B-s(0)) decays with 924 pb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We find excesses with significances of 4.5, 2.9, and 2.4 standard deviations in the B+ –> mu(+)mu K–(+), B-0 –> mu(+)mu(-) K*(892)(0), and B-s(0) –> mu(+)mu(-)phi decay modes, respectively. Using B –> J/psi h (h = K+, K*(892)(0), phi) decays as normalization channels, we report branching fractions for the previously observed B+ and B-0 decays, B(B+ –> mu(+)mu K–(+)) = (0.59 +/- 0.15 +/- 0.04) x 10(-6), and B(B-0 –> mu(+)mu K-*(892)(0)) = (0.81 +/- 0.30 +/- 0.10) x 10(-6), where the first uncertainty is statistical, and the second is systematic. We set an upper limit on the relative branching fraction B(B-s(0) –> mu(+)mu(-)phi)/B(B-s(0) –> J/psi phi) < 2.6(2.3) x 10(-3) at the 95(90)% confidence level, which is the most stringent to date.

Abstract: We search for new charmless decays of neutral b hadrons to pairs of charged hadrons, using 1 fb(-1) of data collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We report the first observation of the B-s(0)-> K-pi(+) decay and measure B(B-s(0)-> K-pi(+))=(5.0 +/- 0.7(stat)+/- 0.8(syst))x10(-6). We also report the first observation of charmless b-baryon decays, and measure B(Lambda(0)(b)-> p pi(-))=(3.5 +/- 0.6(stat)+/- 0.9(syst))x10(-6) and B(Lambda(0)(b)-> pK(-))=(5.6 +/- 0.8(stat)+/- 1.5(syst))x10(-6). No evidence is found for other modes, and we set the limit B(B-s(0)->pi(+)pi(-))< 1.2x10(-6) at 90% C.L.

Abstract: We report the observation of the bottom, doubly-strange baryon Ωb- through the decay chain Ωb-→J/ψΩ-, where J/ψ→μ+μ-, Ω-→ΛK-, and Λ→pπ-, using 4.2fb-1 of data from pp̄ collisions at s=1.96TeV, and recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. A signal is observed whose probability of arising from a background fluctuation is 4.0×10-8, or 5.5 Gaussian standard deviations. The Ωb- mass is measured to be 6054.4±6. 8(stat)±0.9(syst)MeV/c2. The lifetime of the Ωb- baryon is measured to be 1.13-0.40+0.53(stat)±0.02(syst)ps. In addition, for the Ξb- baryon we measure a mass of 5790.9±2.6(stat)±0.8(syst)MeV/c2 and a lifetime of 1.56-0.25+0.27(stat)±0.02(syst)ps. Under the assumption that the Ξb- and Ωb- are produced with similar kinematic distributions to the Λb0 baryon, we find σ(Ξb-)B(Ξb-→J/ψΞ-) σ(Λb0)B(Λb0→J/ψΛ)=0.167-0.025+0.037(stat) ±0.012(syst) and σ(Ωb-)B(Ωb-→J/ψΩ-) σ(Λb0)B(Λb0→J/ψΛ)=0.045-0.012+0.017(stat) ±0.004(syst) for baryons produced with transverse momentum in the range of 6-20GeV/c. © 2009 The American Physical Society. 80 7 Cited By :65

Abstract: This article presents the first measurement of the ratio of branching fractions B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c) mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu))/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c) pi(-)). Measurements in two control samples using the same technique B((B) over bar (0) -> D+ mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu))/B((B) over bar (0) -> D+ pi(-)) and B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(2010)(+) mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu))/B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(2010)(+) pi(-)) are also reported. The analysis uses data from an integrated luminosity of approximately 172 pb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1: 96 TeV, collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The relative branching fractions are measured to be B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c) mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu))/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c) pi(-)) = 16.6 +/- 3.0(stat) +/- 1.0(syst) (+2.6)(-3.4) (PDG) +/- 0.3(EBR), B((B) over bar (0) -> D+ mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu))/B((B) over bar (0) -> D+ pi(-)) = 9.9 +/- 1.0(stat) +/- 0.6(syst) +/- 0.4(PDG) +/- 0.5(EBR), and B((B) over bar (0)-> D*(2010)(+) mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu))/B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(2010)(+) pi(-)) = 16.5 +/- 2.3(stat) +/- 0.6(syst) +/- 0.5(PDG) +/- 0.8(EBR). The uncertainties are from statistics (stat), internal systematics (syst), world averages of measurements published by the Particle Data Group or subsidiary measurements in this analysis (PDG), and unmeasured branching fractions estimated from theory (EBR), respectively. This article also presents measurements of the branching fractions of four new Lambda(0)(b) semileptonic decays: Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(c)(2595)(+) mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu), Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(c)(2625)(+) mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu), Lambda(0)(b) -> Sigma(c)(2425)(0) pi(+) mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu) , and Lambda(0)(b) -> Sigma(c)(2455)(++) pi(-) mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu), relative to the branching fraction of the Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c) mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu) decay. Finally, the transverse-momentum distribution of Lambda(0)(b) baryons produced in p (p) over bar collisions is measured and found to be significantly different from that of (B) over bar (0) mesons, which results in a modification in the production crosssection ratio sigma(Lambda b0)/sigma((B) over bar0) with respect to the CDF I measurement.
