We present ALMA observations of several formaldehyde transitions of the planet forming disk around TW Hya, obtained as part of the project 'TW Hya as a chemical Rosetta stone'. Formaldehyde (H2CO) is a precursor of the simplest complex organic molecule methanol (CH3OH) and thus understanding its formation history and the link to the physical structure is of great importance. Formation of H2CO is possible in the gas-phase at increased temperatures but also in the solid-state in the midplane and outer regions where the temperature drops below 30K. To investigate this, several lines with different excitation temperatures have been measured and analyzed. The channel maps, moment-zero map, and radial profiles give an insight into the distribution and origin of the gas-phase H2CO abundances in the protoplanetary disk. Comparison to detailed model calculations provides further constraints on which formation routes dominate H2CO, and its relation to CH3OH.

Applications for visualizing and/or modelling of complex 3D scenes, such as programs dealing with medical multi-modal 3D data sets, have to cope with a vast number of coordinate spaces. In such applications, treating a datum in the wrong coordinate space is one of the most common reason for bugs. Furthermore, the large number of coordinate transformations lead to code which is difficult to handle and understand. In this article a framework is presented that encapsulates coordinate space transitions, and offers the user a simple and logical entry point to access such transformations. It reduces the chance of assuming a wrong coordinate space to a minimum. The framework is very flexible, in the sense that it allows dynamic composition of scenes, with dynamic transformations between the scene objects. A reflectance map design is described which uses a minimal amount of memory for the table, in order to be applicable as an on-chip shader. The shader is designed for use with the volumetric super resolution hardware, which performs shading at supersampled locations. However, the design may be used as well to support surface visualization applications. Despite the small table size, the image quality obtained is excellent, even on smooth surfaces.
