Cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis L.) requires large amounts of nitrogen (N) fertilizer to produce high yields. The intercropping of cauliflower with a leguminous species may help farmers to reduce N fertilizer rates, production costs and environmental pollution. Moreover, the recycling of crop residues can contribute to the nutritional support of subsequent crops in a rotation. In this study, cauliflower was cultivated in year one either alone or intercropped with annual clover (Trifolium resupinatum L.), using four N fertilization rates: 0, 75, 150, and 300 kg N ha−1 (referred to as N0, N1, N2, and N3 respectively). Following crop residue incorporation in year two, iceberg lettuce (Lactuca sativa var. capitata (L.) Janchen) was cropped on the same field without the supply of N fertilizer to assess the effect of cauliflower and clover residues as well as of residual N fertilizer rates on the growth and N uptake of lettuce. The presence of clover did not affect the marketable yields of the intercropped cauliflower, which were similar to the cauliflower sole-cropped. The N1 and N2 fertilizer rates maximized both growth and N uptake of the intercropped cauliflower, while with the N3, crop development was limited. In the N0 plot, the legume competed for N and depressed growth and N absorption of cauliflower. The sole-cropped cauliflower was, on the contrary, unaffected by the N fertilizer rates. The iceberg lettuce cultivated in succession benefited from the presence of clover in plots N1 and N2. When succeeded to the sole-cropped cauliflower, however, the iceberg lettuce produced less biomass and absorbed less N. Results from this study suggest that the intercropping system cauliflower-clover can be a sustainable tool to optimize N input and reduce N fertilizer requirements for the successive crop.

All' inizio del terzo millennio, lo scenario dell scienze biomediche è stato caratterizzato da eventi che coinvolgono prioritariamente la microbiologia e l' immunologia. Ne sono un esempio epidemie quali la SARS, l' influenza aviaria e umana, la Blue Tongue, le malattie da prioni ( BSE e la malattia di Creutzfeldt - Jakob ) e, non ultimo, il bioterrorismo con l' antrace. Il medico veterinario ( e ancor prima lo studente ) necessita pertanto di nozioni e informazioni che gli consentano di affrontare, nel lavoro quotidiano, sia le " emergenze sanitarie ", sia le " nuove patologie infettive ".Il volume è particolarmente adatto sia a coloro che si dedicano a discipline medico - biologiche, siano essi studenti universitari in Medicina Veterinaria e in Scienze delle Produzioni Animali o laureati iscritti a corsi di specializzazione, sia a medici veterinari, liberi professionisti od operanti presso strutture pubbliche che intendono rimanere aggiornati su discipline in così rapida evoluzione.

We present WPSE, a browser-side security monitor for web protocols designed to ensure compliance with the intended protocol flow, as well as confidentiality and integrity properties of messages. We formally prove that WPSE is expressive enough to protect web applications from a wide range of protocol implementation bugs and web attacks. We discuss concrete examples of attacks which can be prevented by WPSE on OAuth 2.0 and SAML 2.0, including a novel attack on the Google implementation of SAML 2.0 which we discovered by formalizing the protocol specification in WPSE. Moreover, we use WPSE to carry out an extensive experimental evaluation of OAuth 2.0 in the wild. Out of 90 tested websites, we identify security flaws in 55 websites (61.1%), including new critical vulnerabilities introduced by tracking libraries such as Facebook Pixel, all of which fixable by WPSE. Finally, we show that WPSE works flawlessly on 83 websites (92.2%), with the 7 compatibility issues being caused by custom implementations deviating from the OAuth 2.0 specification, one of which introducing a critical vulnerability.

Lo studio ha avuto lo scopo di evidenziare e valutare il possibile impatto legato alla fruizione didattica che insiste nella zona più sensibile della Riserva Marina di Miramare (Trieste), la zona di marea . Sono state definite e campionate due stazioni di superficie 50*100 cm, una delle quali è stata isolata e tenuta chiusa alla fruizione, all'interno della spiaggia a sabbia e ciottoli sulla quale si svolgono le attività di educazione ambientale. I dati raccolti nell'arco di un periodo di due anni, sono stati analizzati utilizzando l'analisi della varianza (ANOVA) e i criteri dell' analisi multivariata e i risultati ottenuti hanno evidenziato che nel sito chiuso la comunità mantiene nel tempo una costanza nella macrostruttura, contrariamente al sito di fruizione didattica dove si evidenzia una maggiore variabilità.

La gestione dei rifiuti in impianti di stabilizzazione e solidificazione: bilancio di massa e mix-design

The effects were studied on cardiovascular risk factors of occupational exposure to carbon disulfide (CS2) concentrations ranging from 0.05 to 1.60 mg/m3, 74 workers exposed (E) to CS2 and 79 non-exposed (NE) workers were examined. Information was obtained on age, working age and life habits (alcohol, smoke, etc.) through a questionnaire and height and weight were measured to assess body mass index (BMI). All the workers underwent blood collection for the assessment of total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels and electrocardiogram. No clinically evident heart disease were detected in the workers examined and the prevalences of obesity and hypertension resulted to be similar among workers of the two groups. Mean triglyceride levels and frequencies of hypertriglyceridemia and of HDL cholesterol values40 mg/dl were significantly higher in exposed workers than non-exposed. The triglyceride levels resulted to be significantly and directly influenced by BMI and exposure to CS2. Occupational exposure to low environmental CS2 concentrations seems to interacts with other factors to determine alterations of lipid metabolism.

Two cases of sheep-associated malignant catarrhal fever (SA-MCF) in cattle herds of Southern Italy are reported. The affected animals, a three-year-old cow and a six-month-old calf, developed clinical manifestations resembling those of the "head and eye" form of MCF. Serologically, the calf tested positive in an indirect immunofluorescent (IIF) assay for the detection of MCF viruses antibodies, whereas the cow was found seronegative. One affected animal was from a herd housed together with a flock of sheep, while no contact between the herd of the affected calf and carrier animals was demonstrated. OvHV-2 viral DNA was detected by a PCR test performed on peripheral blood leucocytes (PBL) and tissue samples from both the animals, completing the definitive diagnosis of MCF.
