The thesis deals with contemporary housing of university students in Prague's inner city. The study is based on qualitative research: data was collected using semi-structured interviews and then analysed by method of grounded theory. Based on the data, the reasons for student migration to inner city, the criteria of searching and selection of new housing and its future development are discussed. Karlovy Vary is currently a city with one of the highest share of foreigners in population in Czechia. Thus, one could expect that residents from foreign countries will have a significant influence on the forming of socio-spatial structures of this city. The present work identifies and characterizes most significant groups of foreigners in Karlovy Vary and evaluates spatial patterns of these groups in the basic settlement units. Emphasis is placed on the concentration of foreigners into the spa center and their other residential preferences, used as a key to interpretation of identified spatial patterns and deepen the knowledge about the state of residential differentiation at the lower scale level. To reach the goals of present work is used a combination of both quantitative and qualitative research methods. A case study is framed within the theoretical framework of concepts of residential differentiation and segregation in the former Eastern block countries context. There is also a brief characterization of the presence of foreigners and ethnic minorities in Czechia or a summary of urban and residential development of surveyed city.

Jana Jíchová: Crime and its Perception in Urban Environment ABSTRACT Crime is an important social phenomenon that affects many aspects of the functioning of society and the life of every person. It also represents an important interdisciplinary topic that deals with a number of disciplines, including geography. Logically, there is a thematic and methodological overlap; each of the sciences emphasize on different aspects of crime, using various methods and research approaches, interpretations, and therefore contributes to the knowledge of crime differently. The importance of geography is particularly in the enrichment of the crime research on spatial dimension and contributes to its cognition through analysis of the distribution of crime and studies of perception of crime. Although this type of studies is well established in Western crime research, in the Czech geography is paid to them only little attention. This bachelor thesis deals with social inequalities in the Jakarta Metropolitan Area. It is focused on the problematic of social exclusion in relation with the distribution of different groups of the population in the metropolitan region - especially on the differences between core and peripheral areas. Monitoring of the social differences is set in the context of post-suburbanisation and the entire work is based on theories of postmodern urbanism. In the case of segregation of population it is primarily focused on the main reasons leading to this process - differences in ethnicity and ensuring security. In the context of higher degree of security it focuses on other indicators, which could be expected to be related with it. Data from the Indonesian Bureau of Statistics have been used in the processing. The results indicate that differences exist not only between the core and suburban areas, but also within the edges themselves. Over the last few decades Czech cities have experienced significant improvements of physical environment, and urban regeneration is one of the processes contributing to these changes. The final appearance of renewed environment is the result of negotiations and conflicts among key actors involved in the regeneration process. The decision- making process of urban regeneration is influenced by many factors including the perception of the qualities of the buildings and of the place. The regeneration process can also change the place and its meanings. The aim of this diploma thesis is to characterize the role of perception in decision-making process of urban regeneration in the case of two parts of the city of Ostrov built in different architectural styles. First, the theoretical knowledge related to perception of the architectural heritage and its regeneration is discussed, with emphasis on the concept of place as a pervading approach. As the main research findings, the differences in the perception of given buildings were identified among the city residents and among the actors as well. It was also proven that the perception of given buildings affects the approach of the actors to regeneration to some extent, although in many cases the other factors predominate.

The aim of the diploma thesis is to detect and explain changes in functional use and structure of retail and services and its perceptions by residents on a case study of Prague 2. During the period 1989 - 2013 in Prague 2 and in representative types of its streets was studied the transformation of commercial and residential uses, retail and service structure and residential perceptions. By analyzing of available data in Prague 2 was shown that in the context of the processes affecting the post-socialist city increased the importance of commercial functions and structure of retail and services changed. The dynamics of changes in the streets differs based on their hierarchical position. In the streets diversified level of the external appearance of establishments at present. From structured interviews with residents of representative streets revealed that changes were perceived diversely and their satisfaction with the retail and services structure in neighbourhood was evaluated positively and negatively. CITY SPACE AND PLACE OF RESIDENCE FROM THE EYES OF CHILDREN FROM PRAHA - KUNRATICE ABSTRACT The aim of this thesis is to capture children's perception of the place of residence and the way they use it. The actual research has been done based on introduced cognitive processes during childhood, took place in Praha - Kunratice and there were several quantitative methods of investigation used. Using the participating and non-participating observation confirmed the assumption that children in their place of residence engage in activities away from their home. The half-stuctured interviews with selected target groups and mental maps creating followed. The child participants were sketching their ideas about the surroundings of their home. There opinions were thereafter clarified in the discussion. The analysis of the mental maps was done by comparison of age and tender.

This bachelor thesis examines the effectiveness of open street closed circuit television (CCTV) in reducing crime, as installed in Palmovka, Prague. The main aim is to describe and evaluate the effectiveness of CCTV in a place with increased incidence of illegal activity (disturbing public order and the commitment of certain crimes). The theses furthermore evaluates the preventive effect of CCTV devices and their contribution to the detection of illegal activity by police authorities. To obtain the results, a method of semi-structured interviews with local police officers and analysis of police crime data was used. The research showed that after installing CCTV the number of crimes decreased, but the expectations of the general preventive effect were not met. The main merit for the reduction in crime may be attributed to other established security measures. Nevertheless, these systems have proved very helpful in improving investigation of crime and taken records serve as useful evidence in criminal proceedings. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

This thesis is focused on the social housing as a housing policy instrument in the territory of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. The thesis evaluates the concept from the two comparative advantages of the social housing policy - the first is increase in availability of housing for households that are disadvantaged on the housing market; the second is the possible prevention of development of social- excluded sites. Here in the thesis, those aspects of social housing are investigated on the base of the policy of the Municipality of the capital Prague and on the policy of the particular city-districts. More in detail the impacts of social housing policy are presented for the case of Prague 14 and especially in the case of housing estate Černý Most. There is a high ratio of the municipal housing. The study of life of various groups of population has become in today's society increasingly important. Society in its complexity is being continously differentiated and offers many questions not only of mainstream society, but also other, less studied groups around us. This bachelor thesis aims to contribute to research in daily life of specific socially deprivated population group. Using interviews with direct and another key actors will seek to identify and objective evaluate spacial relations and spacial behavior of homeless population in the central part of Prague 5 - Smíchov. Presents also both their social characteristics and social relations with their neighborhood, including other actors. In this thesis I focus on assessing the accessibility of public green spaces in urban environment. The paper summarizes some of the problems of measuring the accessibility by analysing selected methods used in previous researches on this topic. The main goal of this work is to propose a methodology, which would deal with these problems and which could be used to measure the accessibility of public green areas in cities as accurately as possible. In the empirical part of the paper I use the proposed methodology to compare the accessibility of public green spaces in two cadastral areas (Motol and Vršovice) and to test the hypothesis that a greater amount of green corresponds with better access to public green spaces for residents. The aim of this diploma thesis is to find out whether the residents of family houses districts are satisfied with the current stage of built environment and usage of public spaces. Three focus districts were areas with family houses situated in the Prague metropolitan region (Hanspaulka, Starý Spořilov, Satalice) and eleven territorial public spaces were under examination. The research had three stages. Field mapping focused on the current stage of built environment of public spaces in focus districts. Structured observation, as the following stage, revealed the usage of those public spaces. Through the stage of semi-structured interviews, was answered the question about, how satisfied are the residents with the public spaces and if they have any changes or suggestions in order to improve those.

The aim of this work is to determine the perception of crime and feeling of security people who live in the new development in the village Sulice, which is located in suburb of Prague. In this village happened in the past and even now there is a large extent to the process of suburbanization. During the last twenty one years they have moved in to the family home nearly a thousand new residents. And therefore is an option that this suburban location is an attractive target for the perpetrators of property crime. In the village Sulice structured interviews were conducted with local residents and the mayor and deputy mayor. Based on structured interviews, practical part of the thesis is made. Research aims to determine what type of crime, people in the village Sulice most worried about and why. The work focuses on the security measures taken against the perpetrators. The results showed that almost all of respondents feel safe in the village, although half of all respondents had a negative experience with a local crime. Respondents are most worried about property crime. The most effective security measures are dogs and mainly supervision of family members and neighbours. This thesis deals with transformation of the structure and distribution of retail and services in the post-socialist city. The aim of thesis is to detect changes in the structure and distribution in retail and services on the case study of Chodov. With the economic transformation after 1989 was changed the structure and distribution markets and services in the city. The topic has been previously studied on the example of large cities. It has been shown, that even in a small town like Chodov, the structure of retail and services was changed, number of establishments increased and new were founded. The distribution of retail and services was also changed in Chodov, retail and services began to be decentralized and they expanded into all parts of the town, in the town center number of retails and services further increased. The reason for these changes could have been change in the ownership mode of the businesses, a price liberalization, the growth of private businesses, an arrival of foreign investors and the change of consumers' behaviour. Prefabricated housing estates today - Jižní Město (Southern Town) through the eyes of two generations of its first inhabitants The current state and possible development of prefabricated housing estates is a very serious issue and there are many blank spaces on the present knowledge map that have not been investigated yet, as well as questions that have not been answered yet. At the same time, prefabricated housing estates in the Czech Republic represent an issue on which most of the general as well as professional public (across the impacted fields) has a clear opinion, which is frequently quite firm, even though they may have no -- or only minimal -- personal or professional experience with the environment. The fact that the real situation at the housing estates may be quite different from the image of housing estates perceived from the outside -- as presented by the media and viewed by "outsiders" that do not live in housing estates and do not actually know that much about them, except how the housing estates come across physically and what feelings and notions they evoke in them -- is the basic hypothesis that is tested in this thesis.
