Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit den beiden iberischen Kolonialmächten Portugal und Spanien in der Frühen Neuzeit. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei der Vergleich der beiden unterschiedlichen Kolonialkonzepte und –philosophien in Südostasien anhand der Städte Malakka und Manila. Doch bevor sich der Hauptteil der Arbeit mit der europäischen Expansion beschäftigt, wird in einem ersten Schritt das historische Fundament dieses Prozesses untersucht. Dabei werden die Gesellschaftsstruktur, die demographischen Voraussetzungen, die wirtschaftliche und politische Ausgangslage auf der iberischen Halbinsel am Vorabend der portugiesischen Expansion näher erörtert. Ferner beschäftigt sich die Arbeit mit der Frage, weshalb gerade die iberischen Mächte, allen voran Portugal, die Vorreiterrolle der europäischen Expansion ausfüllten – und nicht etwa andere europäische Seemächte. Nach der allgemeinen historischen Darstellung folgt der Hauptteil, in dem der südostasiatische Raum im Mittelpunkt steht. Der erste Abschnitt widmet sich der Handelsmetropole Malakka. Nach einer Erörterung der vorkolonialen Strukturen und der Eroberung der Stadt durch Vizekönig Albuquerque 1511, werden der Ausbau und die Etablierung der portugiesischen Herrschaft in Malakka behandelt. Bezug genommen wird in diesem Kapitel auf die Vertreibung der muslimischen Bevölkerung und – damit verbunden – auf die selbst verursachte Konkurrenz durch die aufstrebenden Reiche Aceh und Johore. Thema ist ebenso die Einbindung Malakkas in den Estado da India und dessen Entwicklung. Der zweite Teil beschäftigt sich mit dem philippinischen Archipel im Allgemeinen und Manila, als spanischen Herrschersitz, im Speziellen. Dabei werden einerseits die vorkolonialen Strukturen und andererseits die Entdeckungsfahrten von Magellan bis hin zu Legazpi sowie die Festsetzung der spanischen Kolonialherrschaft auf den Philippinen im Mittelpunkt stehen. Durch die Entdeckung eines Seewegs über den Pazifik öffnete Manila den Spaniern dauerhaft den Zugang zum Handel mit Japan und China. Die Etablierung der Manila-Acapulco Galeone verhalf der Metropole am philippinischen Archipel zu großer Blüte und zu enormen demographischen wie wirtschaftlichen Wachstum. In einem letzten Schritt werden die beiden Kolonialsysteme und deren Umsetzung in Südostasien miteinander verglichen. Im Zentrum dieses Vergleichs stehen drei Fragestellungen: Einerseits werden die unterschiedlichen Kolonialkonzepte und die vorkolonialen Strukturen einander gegenübergestellt. Auf der anderen Seite stehen die Etablierung der iberischen Kolonialherrschaften in den beiden südostasiatischen Städten – und zudem die Auswirkung der europäischen Herrschaft auf die Entwicklung von Malakka und Manila im Mittelpunkt des letzten Vergleichs., This paper will discuss the two Iberian colonial powers Portugal and Spain during the early modern period focusing on the comparison of the divergent colonial concepts and philosophies of these two powers in South East Asia with the cities of Malacca and Manila as representative examples. But before discussing the European expansion as the main topic of this paper the historic foundation of this process will be discussed in a first step with a detailed review of societal structures, demographic requirements and basic economic and political environment on the Iberian peninsula at the eve of Portuguese expansion. The paper will also discuss the question why it had specifically been the Iberian powers, primarily Portugal, taking the vanguard role in European expansion – and not any of the other European maritime powers. Following this general historical review the main body will focus on the South East Asian region with the first section dedicated to the commercial capital of Malacca. After describing the precolonial structures and the conquest of the city by Viceroy Albuquerque in 1511, the development and establishment of Portuguese sovereignty in Malacca will be discussed. This section will also focus on the expulsion of the Muslim population and – in this context – also on the self-provoked competition by the newly emergent realms of Aceh and Johore. The integration of Malacca into the “Estado da India“ and its development is another topic of this first section. The second section will discuss the Philippine archipelago in general and Manila as seat of the Spanish sovereign in particular. It will not only give an account of the precolonial structures, but will also focus on the discovery journeys from Magellan to Legazpi and on the permanent establishment of Spanish colonial rule of the Philippines. With the discovery of the maritime route across the Pacific Manila provided the Spanish with a permanent access to trade with Japan and China. The establishment of the Manila Acapulco Galleons ensured an age of prosperity for the metropolis on the Philippine archipelago and ensured tremendous demographic and economic growth for the region. In a final step, the two colonial systems and their implementation in South East Asia will be compared. This comparison will focus on three specific aspects: The different colonial concepts and the precolonial structures will be compared. On the other hand, this last comparison will also contrast the establishment of the Iberian colonial rules in the two South East Asian cities - and also the impact of the European rule on the development of the cities of Malacca and Manila.

Die vorliegend Arbeit beschäftigt sich intensiv mit den Auswirkungen der Reformation auf das dreigeteilte ungarische Königreich. Neben der Darstellung der Vorgeschichte rund um den gesellschaftlichen und religiösen Wandel von König Matthias Corvinus bis zu den Folgen der Schlacht von Mohács 1526, werden die divergenten Entwicklungen der Reformation in den drei Teilen geschildert. Dabei wird besonders auf die zwei Phasen der Reformation Bezug genommen, die zu der späteren Differenzierung innerhalb des protestantischen Glaubens geführt hatten. Nach der generellen historischen Darstellung der Verbreitung des Protestantismus steht im Hauptteil dieser Diplomarbeit der westungarische Raum im Mittelpunkt. Da in dieser speziellen Region das Gesellschaftsgefüge einige Besonderheiten, allen voran in sozialer, wirtschaftlicher und politischer Hinsicht, aufweist, wird auf die tragende Rolle der Magnaten im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert eingegangen. Exemplarisch werden dabei die Hochadelsfamilien Nádasdy und Batthyány herangezogen. Beide Adelsgeschlechter nahmen durch ihren gesellschaftlichen Einfluss eine wesentliche Rolle bei der Durchsetzung und Verbreitung des Reformglaubens ein. Aber nicht nur das religiöse Bild auf den Gütern der beiden Hochadelsfamilien änderte sich durch den Glaubenswechsel, sondern vor allem das kulturelle. Durch Gründungen von Schulen und Druckereien trugen die Magnaten zur Förderung und Weiterentwicklung der ungarischen Sprache bei. Durch den Individualismus der jeweiligen Familienmitglieder lassen sich neben den vielen kulturellen Gemeinsamkeiten auch einige in erster Linie konfessionelle Unterschiede und Folgen für die protestantischen Kirchenorganisationen herausarbeiten. Auch der Zeitpunkt und die Umstände der Rekatholisierung weisen einige Unterschiede auf. Zusammenfassend muss jedoch die Zeit der Reformation als bedeutende Phase in der Geschichte Ungarns dargestellt werden, die der ungarischen Sprache eine erste Blüte bescherte., The diploma thesis provides a detailed review of the impact of the Reformation on the tripartite Hungarian kingdom. Apart from a discussion of the historic circumstances around the social and religious conversion of King Matthias Corvinus up to the consequences and outcomes of the battle of Mohács in 1526, the divergent developments of the Reformation will be described in three separate parts with particular reference to the two phases of the Reformation having led to the differentiation within the Protestant confession in further course. After a general historical presentation of the spreading of Protestantism, the main part of this diploma thesis focuses on the West Hungarian region. As the social structure in this particular region shows various specific characteristics and features, especially in social, economic and political respect, the leading role of the Hungarian magnates during the 16th and 17th century will be discussed. The families of Nádasdy and Batthyány as members of the Hungarian high nobility will be discussed as representative examples. Supported by their social standing and impact both of these noble families played a major role in the spreading and penetration of the reformatory confession. However, the shift in confession not only brought about alterations in the religious beliefs at the domains of these two noble families, but especially in the cultural environment. With the foundation of schools and print shops the magnates also contributed towards the promotion and development of the Hungarian language. The individualism of the respective family members not only brought about a number of common cultural features and characteristics, but much rather also some predominantly confessional differences and consequences for the Protestant ecclesiastical organisation. Time and circumstances of recatholisation also show some particular differences. However, in summary the time of reformations must be considered as an important period in Hungarian history supporting a first bloom of the Hungarian language.
