Like many other areas of life, dance utilizes the opportunities today's technology provides. Performances integrated with new technologies have initiated the digital age in dance. Interdisciplinary collaborations are established to use these technologies, and shows that transform the dancer's body, the space where the dance takes place, and the dance performance are designed during the staging processes. In this study, to evaluate the narrative possibilities created by the interaction of the dancer's live performance and the projected video image, the narrative of the "Hit the Road Jack" dance performance, which was determined by purposeful sampling method from the YouTube video sharing site was analyzed semiologically, and the findings were interpreted in terms of body, space, performance, and expression. It has been determined that a narrative is created by interacting with the digital image used simultaneously with the dance performance, creating the illusion that the human body is physically increased, and creating an atmosphere beyond the reality of time and space. As a result, it has been seen that interdisciplinary design processes, in which computer and reflection technologies are used in conjunction with each other, transform the function of creating meaning and conveying messages in dance performances. SEWING machines , *HISTORY of technology , *AGRICULTURAL development , *AGRICULTURAL implements , *NINETEENTH century - Abstract
Until the 18th century, human history used a technology that had been going on for thousands of years and was characterised by its mechanical features, and social life was shaped accordingly. This process, which has been going on for thousands of years, witnessed significant changes in the 19th century, especially in transport technologies - railways and steamships - and this century witnessed the birth of today's modern technology. This process, which started in the field of transport, continued to gain momentum with developments in the fields of chemistry and electricity. In the 19th century, a period of rapid change and transformation, Ottoman society, as a technology importer, imported this technology from abroad. The product range and volume of the technology imported from abroad varied according to the years and the needs of the society. At this point, our research will try to examine how and in what way the Ottoman Empire, as a technology importer, used the imported technology by selecting samples from different neighbourhoods of Anatolia. As it is known, railways and steamships are among the most important technologies imported from the early period. Firstly, the use and effects of these transport technologies in the late Ottoman society will be investigated, and then the use and spread of agricultural tools such as threshing machines and ploughs will be emphasised depending on the developments in the agricultural field. Then we will focus on sewing machines, which had a significant impact on household production and became visible in the second half of the 19th century. Our research will try to investigate the use of technology in the late Ottoman society through such examples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Innovation plays a crucial role in the success of the hospitality industry, leading to numerous positive organizational outcomes. The concept of technological innovation in the hospitality industry has garnered significant attention, particularly due to the widespread impact of emerging technologies on organizations. The purpose of this study is to identify technological innovation strategies and barriers to successful innovation practices in the hospitality industry. 17 hospitality professionals worldwide, selected through judgment sampling, constitute the participant profile of this study. The current study, based on a qualitative research design, used qualitative textual analysis to identify patterns in the data set. QSR NVivo 10 software was used to identify major themes from the transcripts. As a result of the analysis, 4 technological innovation strategies were identified, namely setting strategic direction, culture of innovation, organizational alignment and collaboration and partnerships, and 4 barriers were identified, namely lack of understanding technology, data overload, failure to meet user needs and the speed of change, which pose obstacles to innovation in the hospitality industry. This study contributes to innovation research in the hospitality literature by providing an in-depth evaluation of technological innovation strategies and the barriers in this process and approaching the topic holistically. TECHNOLOGICAL innovations , *PRIVATE sector , *PUBLIC institutions - Abstract
This paper presents a critical comparison of the developmental state and the entrepreneurial state, contributing to the existing literature by highlighting the advantages and necessity of an entrepreneurial state over a developmental state through the connection between public institutions and spinoffs. The article discusses how the state's technology research has led to the creation of new and dynamic sectors, increasing growth and employment, as well as encouraging the private sector to increase its R&D investments to establish more innovative companies, using the example of the United States while comparing Asian and European countries. In this context, it is hypothesized that an entrepreneurial state is more efficient and superior compared to a developmental state. The study supports this hypothesis by mentioning how China combines the entrepreneurial state model with the developmental state model. Subsequently, the concepts of the entrepreneurial state and developmental state are defined concerning technology, innovation, and competition. In the final section, a comparison is made between the entrepreneurial state and the developmental state, demonstrating that theoretically, the entrepreneurial state is essential and offers numerous advantages over the developmental state. Stress and burnout experienced by interpreters during remote interpreting, which is more adopted after the Covid-19 pandemic in Türkiye, are examined in this study. In the first part of the analysis, whether the stress and burnout experienced during remote interpreting by the professional conference interpreters in Türkiye differ according to professional qualifications such as years of professional experience, having received training in remote interpreting, language pairs and interpreting fields in remote interpreting, and being a member of any professional association have been examined. In the second part of the analysis, the impact of some factors which may affect the level of stress and burnout experienced by interpreters in remote interpreting such as interpreting from a separate environment, the impact of receiving positive feedback, the quality of interpreting, and the income coming from remote interpreting compared to onsite interpreting on interpreters’ preferences for remote interpreting and/or onsite interpreting have been examined. As a result, it has been found that there is no significant relationship between the stress and burnout experienced by the interpreters in the context of remote interpreting, and their aforementioned professional qualifications and that remote interpreting causes more stress for the interpreter compared to on-site interpreting. Secondly, it has been found that except the satisfaction coming from the receiving positive feedback factor, there is no any significant relationship between the preferences of the interpreters for remote interpreting and/or onsite interpreting and the issues such as interpreting environment (onsite or remote), the quality of interpreting, and the income coming from onsite and remote work. Most of the interpreters prefer both remote interpreting and onsite interpreting in that they are as much satisfied with the positive feedback received in remote interpreting as they are in onsite interpreting. The interpreters who only prefer onsite interpreting think that the positive feedback received in remote interpreting is not as satisfying as the one received in onsite interpreting. Willing to adapt to technological developments and considering the many benefits of remote interpreting, the interpreters think that remote interpreting should be as widespread as onsite interpreting. This study reveals that some improvements should be made in the context of remote interpreting in order to support interpreters’ flexibility and resilience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Child abuse and neglect is a widespread social problem. The prevalence of this problem threatens the present and future of children. Although various prevention programs have been proposed in the literature as a solution to the problem of child abuse and neglect, recently, technological applications have been increasingly used in prevention and intervention studies for abuse and neglect. This study aims to review the current literature on technologically assisted programs for preventing child abuse and neglect. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guideline was used to identify eligible studies. 22 evidence-based studies with pretest-posttest control were included in the review. The reviewed programs were structured to educate parents, children, and various professionals on appropriate parenting skills and child abuse and neglect. In the studies reviewed, web/internet-based applications were mostly used and effectiveness evaluation studies were mainly conducted on parents. With the exception of one study, the programs were found to be effective following interventions for abuse and neglect, and cognitive and behavioral improvements were noted in parents, children, and other professionals. As a result, it can be said that technology-based prevention programs are accepted practices for child abuse and neglect. To date, however, there is little data to support the use of such studies in preventive practices and strategies. More studies are needed to test the effectiveness of technological applications in preventing abuse among children and adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this study is to determine the level of awareness and technological readiness of the employees of century-old food and beverage businesses in Türkiye. In particular, relatively older businesses established before the digital age may be more hesitant to adapt to innovations. In order to ensure the sustainability of centuries-old food and beverage establishments in the digital age, the population of the research consists of restaurants and dinners in Türkiye that have been active in the food and beverage business status for more than 100 years as of the year of establishment, which is referred to as long-lasting. Data were collected from 226 employees working in the kitchen, service, reception and cash register units of 15 food and beverage establishments that have exceeded a century in 6 different provinces in Türkiye by using the questionnaire technique, which is one of the quantitative research methods. According to the results of the research, the technological readiness level of the employees was calculated as 2.9 points out of 5. While 1 represents the lowest technological readiness level, 5 represents the highest technological readiness level. In addition, it has been determined that the applications that employees have the most knowledge about technological developments in the sector are "Online food and beverage orders", "Tablet, kiosk, mobile ordering systems" and "Restaurant automation programs", while the applications that employees have the least knowledge about are "3D food printers", "Food & beverage service with drone" and "Smart restaurants", respectively. In this context, it can be said that although the employees are individually interested in technology, they are hesitant to use technology in their businesses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the recent COVID-19 pandemic, it has been observed that surgical patients have turned more towards telemedicine applications to meet their health care needs due to the fact that they cannot apply to hospitals unless they are mandatory and even the majority of non-urgent medical activities, including elective surgeries, are paused. Telesurgery, one of the telehealth concepts in the provision of health services, has emerged as a promising application known as remote surgery, which provides remote surgical care to patients. Today, telesurgical interventions performed away from patients using surgical robots, virtual reality applications, advanced computer and network technologies have become a rising trend in the field of surgery. It is obvious that telesurgery applications, which aim to provide high quality remote surgery with worldwide expertise, have some obstacles due to the fact that it is a very new technology. However, despite the obstacles, it is witnessed that telesurgical interventions are being successfully applied day by day thanks to different application methods. It is predicted that telesurgery, which is expected to reach and serve more patients in the future, will be more widely applied and developed with its high-speed advanced network connection, lower cost rates and reaching all over the world, even to space and the depths of the sea. When we look at the nursing practices in telesurgery, which is a new application area in the field of surgery, it is stated that positive results have been achieved, but the number of studies is still insufficient. Depending on the telesurgery technology, which is expected to develop rapidly in the coming years, it is thought that there will be a rapid increase in the number of studies on telesurgery in the field of surgical nursing. Therefore, in this review, it was aimed to clarify telesurgical interventions, which have been started to be applied by surgeons as a new trend in recent years and which is a very new and highly developed application area for nurses, and to examine the surgical nursing interventions applied in this field. - Abstract
Throughout its millennia of adventure, theatre has served as a mirror of society, reflecting changing cultural norms and technological developments. With the expansion of the individual use of technology, the viewing behaviour of the theatre audience has also transformed. In addition to television, cinema and broadcasting platforms, the use of social media tools affects viewing habits by changing performance dynamics. The research, which examines the evolution of the audience by focusing on the impact of new technologies, tries to determine the nature of today's viewing habits by referring to the views of the audience and theatre professionals. The aim of this study is to contribute to the field by enabling theatre professionals to have an idea about audience orientations by investigating the views of the audience on the impact of technology and social media on theatre viewing habits. In this study, which was designed as a descriptive research, qualitative and quantitative data were collected online and analysed according to their types. The results of the study showed that the series on digital platforms and the use of social media has a negative impact on viewing habits. The research shows that in order to continue to create an alternative to the content on social media and digital platforms, the durations of plays should be reshaped according to viewing habits. - Abstract
Turkey has recently started to implement and use AI-based tools in the public sphere in order to keep up with the innovations and changes in the world in the field of artificial intelligence. Recently, the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy program has been determined by the Digital Transformation Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey and it has been suggested that ministries should follow the developments in this field and carry out their digital application tools for the benefit of society in the future. The aim of this research is to examine the artificial intelligence applications prepared by public institutions in Turkey for the society. The methodology of this research is based on a case study, which is one of the qualitative research types. The data of this research was obtained from the written materials on the online site of public institutions. According to the results of the research, it was determined that some artificial intelligence tools were tried to be implemented in public institutions for the benefit of society. It is thought that public institutions will produce more tools that implement artificial intelligence-supported solutions in areas such as smart transportation, energy management and environmental monitoring, education, health, food sector, communication, social projects in city management and offer them to the service of citizens. Among the artificial intelligence applications for the benefit of society, these artificial intelligence-based applications named Hızır, Analysis Systems Narcotics Network (ASENA), GAMER, Kades, Uyuma, Muhatap, MEB assistant, EBA virtual assistant, Digital tax assistant GIBI, NeyımVar have been realized in order to provide useful services to the society. This situation has revealed the importance of digital citizenship skills. Therefore, it is predicted that AI-based digital citizenship applications will strive to find solutions to society's problems in different areas of life in the future. However, it has been stated that AI-based digital tools also carry some risks such as data breach, security of personal information, misdirection of public space, and concerns about creating a surveillance society. - Abstract
Changing conditions inevitably affect military structures and systems. Throughout history, military structures have constantly undergone changes due to doctrinal, organizational, strategic, and technological developments. This research aims to identify the problems experienced by armies in the digital transformation process and to discuss possible solutions to these problems. As a research method, a hybrid method has been used by applying systematic literature review and expert interviews. The unique value of this research is that it addresses practical and current problems faced by armies in the digital transformation process and offers concrete, realistic, and applicable solutions to these problems. This study has reached the conclusions that old systems had problems adapting to new technologies, digital transformation created cyber security vulnerabilities, there was a lack of infrastructure in data management, and personnel having ten years or more in education and training fields may be resistant to change. These findings will help practitioners and decision-makers in the armed forces to make predictions in situations such as transformations in the organizational structures of armies through changes in technologies during the digital transformation process, personnel employment, new skill and capacity requirements, military training systems, and decision-making processes. - Abstract
Technological developments have led to significant changes in the sports industry and spawned many new concepts. In the last 20 years in particular, digital games have brought a revolutionary innovation to the sports industry through their intertwining with sport. These digital games have evolved into a major industry under the name of e-sports, driving a large economy and hosting organizations that bring people together on a global scale. However, the lack of metaphorical research on e-sports in the literature indicates a gap in understanding and explaining the mental experiences in this domain. In this context, this study, which examines how students in the Faculty of Sport Sciences perceive e-sports, has chosen a qualitative research method and favoured a metaphorical research approach. A total of 423 students participated in the study and data from 333 students were analyzed. The research was conducted using a personal information questionnaire, which included demographic information, and a semi-structured interview form to identify metaphorical approaches to e-sports consumption. As a result, the data obtained shows that despite the increasing popularity of e-sports in the sports industry, there is still confusion about how e-sports is recognized as a sport. It has been observed that there are doubts among students in the Faculty of Sports Science as to whether e-sports are accepted as a sport. The consumption of e-sports is generally perceived as hedonistic consumption and the absence of competitive metaphors is conspicuous. This situation suggests that in the future, e-sports will be associated with sporting activities such as competition, winning and exercise. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
