OBJECTIVES:. Anemia has been associated with an increased risk of both cardiac arrest and stroke, frequent complications of COVID-19. The effect of hemoglobin level at ICU admission on a composite outcome of cardiac arrest or stroke in an international cohort of COVID-19 patients was investigated. DESIGN:. Retrospective analysis of prospectively collected database. SETTING:. A registry of COVID-19 patients admitted to ICUs at over 370 international sites was reviewed for patients diagnosed with cardiac arrest or stroke up to 30 days after ICU admission. Anemia was defined as: normal (hemoglobin ≥ 12.0 g/dL for women, ≥ 13.5 g/dL for men), mild (hemoglobin 10.0–11.9 g/dL for women, 10.0–13.4 g/dL for men), moderate (hemoglobin ≥ 8.0 and < 10.0 g/dL for women and men), and severe (hemoglobin < 8.0 g/dL for women and men). PATIENTS:. Patients older than 18 years with acute COVID-19 infection in the ICU. INTERVENTIONS:. None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS:. Of 6926 patients (median age = 59 yr, male = 65%), 760 patients (11.0%) experienced stroke (2.0%) and/or cardiac arrest (9.4%). Cardiac arrest or stroke was more common in patients with low hemoglobin, occurring in 12.8% of patients with normal hemoglobin, 13.3% of patients with mild anemia, and 16.7% of patients with moderate/severe anemia. Time to stroke or cardiac arrest by anemia status was analyzed using Cox proportional hazards regression with death as a competing risk. Covariates selected through clinical knowledge were age, sex, comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and cardiac or neurologic conditions), pandemic era, country income, mechanical ventilation, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Moderate/severe anemia was associated with a higher risk of cardiac arrest or stroke (hazard ratio, 1.32; 95% CI, 1.05–1.67). CONCLUSIONS:. In an international registry of ICU patients with COVID-19, moderate/severe anemia was associated with increased hazard of cardiac arrest or stroke.

BackgroundSchool closures in response to the COVID-19 impacted children's education, protection, and wellbeing. After understanding these impacts and that children were not super spreaders, countries including Ethiopia decided to reopen schools with specified preconditions. But when deciding to reopen schools, the benefits and risks across education, public health and socio-economic factors have to be evaluated. However, there was information gap on status of schools as per preconditions. Hence, this study was designed to investigate status of schools in Southern Ethiopia.MethodsSchool based cross-sectional study was conducted in October 2020 in Southern Ethiopia. Sample of 430 schools were included. National school reopening guideline was used to develop checklist for assessment. Data was collected by public health experts at regional emergency operation center. Descriptive analysis was performed to summarize data.ResultsA total of 430 schools were included. More than two thirds, 298 (69.3%), of schools were from rural areas while 132 (30.7%) were from urban settings. The general infection prevention and water, sanitation and hygiene (IPC-WASH) status of schools were poor and COVID-19 specific preparations were inadequate to meet national preconditions to reopen schools during the pandemic. Total score from 24 items observed ranged from 3 to 22 points with mean score of 11.75 (SD±4.02). No school scored 100% and only 41 (9.5%) scored above 75% while 216 (50.2%%) scored below half point that is 12 items.ConclusionBoth the basic and COVID-19 specific IPC-WASH status of schools were inadequate to implement national school reopening preconditions and general standards. Some of strategies planned to accommodate teaching process and preconditions maximized inequalities in education. Although COVID-19 impact lessened due to vaccination and other factors, it is rational to consider fulfilling water and basic sanitation facilities to schools to prevent communicable diseases of public health importance.

IMPORTANCE:. Factors associated with mortality in coronavirus disease 2019 patients on invasive mechanical ventilation are still not fully elucidated. OBJECTIVES:. To identify patient-level parameters, readily available at the bedside, associated with the risk of in-hospital mortality within 28 days from commencement of invasive mechanical ventilation or coronavirus disease 2019. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS:. Prospective observational cohort study by the global Coronavirus Disease 2019 Critical Care Consortium. Patients with laboratory-confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 requiring invasive mechanical ventilation from February 2, 2020, to May 15, 2021. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES:. Patient characteristics and clinical data were assessed upon ICU admission, the commencement of invasive mechanical ventilation and for 28 days thereafter. We primarily aimed to identify time-independent and time-dependent risk factors for 28-day invasive mechanical ventilation mortality. RESULTS:. One-thousand five-hundred eighty-seven patients were included in the survival analysis; 588 patients died in hospital within 28 days of commencing invasive mechanical ventilation (37%). Cox-regression analysis identified associations between the hazard of 28-day invasive mechanical ventilation mortality with age (hazard ratio, 1.26 per 10-yr increase in age; 95% CI, 1.16–1.37; p < 0.001), positive end-expiratory pressure upon commencement of invasive mechanical ventilation (hazard ratio, 0.81 per 5 cm H2O increase; 95% CI, 0.67–0.97; p = 0.02). Time-dependent parameters associated with 28-day invasive mechanical ventilation mortality were serum creatinine (hazard ratio, 1.28 per doubling; 95% CI, 1.15–1.41; p < 0.001), lactate (hazard ratio, 1.22 per doubling; 95% CI, 1.11–1.34; p < 0.001), Paco2 (hazard ratio, 1.63 per doubling; 95% CI, 1.19–2.25; p < 0.001), pH (hazard ratio, 0.89 per 0.1 increase; 95% CI, 0.8–14; p = 0.041), Pao2/Fio2 (hazard ratio, 0.58 per doubling; 95% CI, 0.52–0.66; p < 0.001), and mean arterial pressure (hazard ratio, 0.92 per 10 mm Hg increase; 95% CI, 0.88–0.97; p = 0.003). CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE:. This international study suggests that in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 on invasive mechanical ventilation, older age and clinically relevant variables monitored at baseline or sequentially during the course of invasive mechanical ventilation are associated with 28-day invasive mechanical ventilation mortality hazard. Further investigation is warranted to validate any causative roles these parameters might play in influencing clinical outcomes.

Adenocarcinoma with mucinous features accounts for 10–15% of colon carcinoma. Distal nodal metastatic colorectal cancer is uncommon, and metastasis of colorectal cancer to the left supraclavicular lymph node is extremely rare without signs of metastatic organ involvement. We present a case of a 54-year-old Caucasian male with colonic adenocarcinoma that presented initially as a left-sided neck mass that had progressively increased in size over 9 months. On physical exam, a left supraclavicular soft tissue mass 6 cm in diameter was appreciated, it was non-tender with no submandibular lymphadenopathy. Soft tissue mass was palpable on the anterior abdominal wall in the epigastric region. Open excisional tissue biopsy of the left supraclavicular mass revealed metastatic adenocarcinoma with mucinous features and colonoscopy revealed a 6 cm obstructing mass in the transverse colon with biopsy revealing primary adenocarcinoma of the mucinous type. Palliative care with comfort measures was agreed upon. Typically, the most common sites of colon cancer metastasis are regional lymph nodes, liver, lung, bone and brain, and ours demonstrated an extremely rare pattern of colon cancer metastasis. The presentation to metastasize to the left supraclavicular node without solid end organ involvement makes this case even more novel.Keywords: Virchow’s node, adenocarcinoma with mucinous features from the colon, skip micrometastases, colon cancer, case report

Abstract Background Health management information system (HMIS) is a system whereby health data are recorded, stored, retrieved and processed to improve decision-making. HMIS data quality should be monitored routinely as production of high quality statistics depends on assessment of data quality and actions taken to improve it. Thus, this study assessed accuracy of the routine HMIS data. Methods Facility based cross-sectional study was conducted in Southern Nations Nationalities and People’s region in 2017. Document review was done in 163 facilities of different levels. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for windows version 20 was used to perform data analysis. Data accuracy was presented in terms of mean and standard deviation of data verification factor. Results Though inaccuracy was noted for all data elements, 96.9 and 84.7% of facilities reported institutional maternal death and skilled birth attendance within acceptable range respectively while confirmed malaria (45.4%), antenatal care fourth visit (46.6%), postnatal care (55.2%), fully immunized (55.8%), severe acute malnutrition (54.6%) and total malaria (50.3%) were reported accurately only by about half of facilities. Antenatal care fourth visit was over reported by 24% while total malaria was under reported by 28%. Reasons for variations included technical, behavioral and organizational factors. Conclusions Majority of facilities over reported services while under reporting diseases. Data quality should be monitored routinely against data quality parameters quantitatively and/or qualitatively to catch-up country’s information revolution agenda.

BackgroundCOVID-19 is highly infectious viral disease that can lead to main clinical symptoms like fever, dry cough, fatigue, myalgia, and dyspnea. Since there is no drug to cure the disease, focusing on improving community awareness related to prevention methods is crucial. But there was no regional level study addressing the reach of information, community knowledge and attitude related to COVID-19 and its prevention, and this study was done to inform and assist communication related to the disease responses during early introduction of the disease to the setting.MethodsCommunity based cross sectional study was conducted in selected ten towns of SNNPR, Ethiopia. Multi-stage sampling was used to select 1239 participants. Semi-structured questionnaire was designed, pre-tested and uploaded to SurveyCTO data collection system with security patterns. Knowledge was assessed considering awareness about signs and symptoms, confirmatory test (laboratory test), what to do if there is a suspect, availability of drug to cure the disease, mechanisms of transmission, prevention methods and most at risk groups. Attitude was assessed using 11 statements including seriousness of disease, being at risk, possibility of prevention, and benefits of staying at health facilities. Descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression were performed to manage data using SPSS version 25.ResultsAlmost all respondents (99.8%) heard about the disease. The mean score of knowledge was 52.3% (SD = 18.9) while the mean score attitude was 80.8% (SD = 6.48). Educational status, housing condition and marital status were associated with having good knowledge while occupation, housing condition, age and overall knowledge were associated with having positive attitude.ConclusionEven though almost all respondents had heard about the COVID-19, knowledge and attitude related to COVID-19 and its prevention were low. Awareness creation should be intensified using different local languages to improve community awareness, overcome misconceptions and minimize consequences of the disease.

Plants offer a bountiful source of natural pest control solutions through their essential oils. This research introduces and analyzes an eco-friendly natural essential oil for red flour beetle control. Therefore, the current study was included to show the chemical profile and the insecticidal efficacy of resin essential oil (REO) and its fractions (F
1-3 ), resulting from chromatographic separation, from the plant Schinus molle against Tribolium castaneum adults. The trunk bark resin essential oil and its fractions' composition were analyzed by GC-MS. Overall, 33 constituents with 98.3% of the total EO composition were identified. REO and F1-3 displayed impressive repellent properties at a concentration of 0.12 µL/cm2 . After 120 min of exposure, repellency ranged from 73.3% to a remarkable 96.7%. They also exhibited noteworthy fumigant properties, with median lethal doses of LD50 = 120.6-160.8 μL/L. The fractions F1 and F3 showed the most notable topical toxicity at a concentration of 10%, with LD50 values of 8.6% and 5.6%, respectively. Fractions F3 and F2 demonstrated the most effective inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, providing insight into their insecticidal mechanisms. The in silico molecular docking and DFT studies corroborate the results of in vitro tests performed to identify new insecticide products derived from natural sources.- Published

- Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death in the United States. Several studies have shown racial disparities in the cardiovascular outcomes. When compared to their Non-Hispanic White (NHW) counterparts, non-Hispanic Black (NHB) individuals have higher prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors and thus, increased mortality from atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. This is evidenced by lower scoring in the indices of the American Heart Association's Life Essential 8 among NHB individuals. NHB individuals score lower in blood pressure, blood lipids, nicotine exposure, sleep, physical activity level, glycemic control, weight, and diet when compared to NHW individuals. Measures to improve these indices at the primary care level may potentially hold the key in mitigating the health care disparities in cardiovascular health experienced by NHB individuals., (Copyright © 2023 The Authors. 12. Iatrogenic Pituitary Shutdown: A Rare Adverse Event of Programmed Cell Death-Ligand 1 Inhibitor.

- Abstract
Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are one of the novel treatment strategies for malignancies, and their wide use has led to the emergence of immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Most of them have been reported in patients taking cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated protein 4 inhibitors and are rarely reported among those taking programmed cell death-ligand protein 1 inhibitors. Here is a 74-year-old man who underwent treatment with atezolizumab for 33 weeks for hepatocellular carcinoma before presenting with chronic symptoms and laboratory results consistent with central adrenal insufficiency. Brain imaging did not show a possible culprit. He was incidentally found to have low thyrotropin (TSH) and low thyroxine prior to his presentation and began replacement with no further workup prior. We advocate keeping a low threshold for the diagnosis of adrenal insufficiency among patients taking ICIs and monitoring their pituitary hormones on a regular basis. Also, it is crucial to rule out pituitary hormonal deficiency among patients with central hypothyroidism prior to initiating replacement., (© The Author(s) 2024. Ligno-cellulosic biomasses had been recognized for their potential use to produce chemicals and biomaterials. The current study focused on the use of a new cellulosic Robinia Pseudoacacia fiber and extracted lignin as adsorbents for methylene blue (a cationic dye). The biomaterials were analyzed using FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM, XRD, and TGA-DTA techniques. The surface of Robinia fibers was rough and porous. The crystallinity index (CrI) value for Robinia fibers was found to be 32%. The ability of the studied samples to remove methylene blue from water was assessed under the variation of time, pH, dye concentration, temperature, and NaCl concentration. The maximum adsorption capacity of methylene blue reached 191 mg/g for Robinia fibers and it achieved 22 mg/g for the extracted lignin ( T = 20 °C, pH = 6, and time = 90 min). The adsorption data complied with the pseudo second-order kinetic model and both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. Based on these findings, the process suggested the occurrence of many physicochemical interactions between methylene blue molecules and the studied biomaterials. The adsorption mechanism was exothermic, non-spontaneous, and it was described by the decrease of the disorder. Adsorption results proved that Robinia fiber was an attractive candidate for the removal of cationic dyes from water.

14. Comparison of the global prevalence and trend of human intestinal carriage of ESBL-producing Escherichia coli between healthcare and community settings: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objectives: The widespread intestinal carriage of ESBL-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL E. coli ) among both patients and healthy individuals is alarming. However, the global prevalence and trend of this MDR bacterium in healthcare settings remains undetermined. To address this knowledge gap, we performed a comparative meta-analysis of the prevalence in community and healthcare settings., Methods: Our systematic review included 133 articles published between 1 January 2000 and 22 April 2021 and indexed in PubMed, EMBASE or Google Scholar. A random-effects meta-analysis was performed to obtain the global pooled prevalence (community and healthcare settings). Subgroup meta-analyses were performed by grouping studies using the WHO regions and 5 year intervals of the study period., Results: We found that 21.1% (95% CI, 19.1%-23.2%) of inpatients in healthcare settings and 17.6% (95% CI, 15.3%-19.8%) of healthy individuals worldwide carried ESBL E. coli in their intestine. The global carriage rate in healthcare settings increased 3-fold from 7% (95% CI, 3.7%-10.3%) in 2001-05 to 25.7% (95% CI, 19.5%-32.0%) in 2016-20, whereas in community settings it increased 10-fold from 2.6% (95% CI, 1.2%-4.0%) to 26.4% (95% CI, 17.0%-35.9%) over the same period., Conclusions: The global and regional human intestinal ESBL E. coli carriage is increasing in both community and healthcare settings. Carriage rates were generally higher in healthcare than in community settings. Key relevant health organizations should perform surveillance and implement preventive measures to address the spread of ESBL E. coli in both settings., (© The Author(s) 2022. - Abstract
Chemical modification of a biopolymer offers a simple strategy to realize new materials with added benefits. In this paper, meso-tetrakis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl) porphyrinto) zinc(II) supported sodium alginate gel beads were successfully prepared, characterized, and used for the removal of a cationic dye from aqueous solution. The chemical structure of the prepared composite beads was confirmed by FT-IR, SEM, XRD and TGA/DTG techniques. Analytical data suggested that the sodium alginate beads and meso-tetrakis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl) porphyrinto) zinc(II) complex interacted via non-covalent interaction (H-bonding) mode. The morphological micrographs showed spherical and smooth composite beads. The crosslinking of hydroxyl and carboxylate groups of the biopolymer with calcium ions and the incorporation of meso-tetrakis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl) porphyrinto) zinc(II) into alginate matrix resulted in a small decrease of residual mass. The maximum adsorption capacities of methylene blue, at 20 °C, were found to be 52.3 mg/g and 34.8 mg/g for sodium alginate composite beads (3%) and plain sodium alginate beads, respectively. The adsorption process followed Freundlich isotherm and pseudo second order kinetics. The thermodynamic study displayed an exothermic and non-spontaneous process., (Copyright © 2022. 16. Unusual Presentation of Atrial Flutter With Slow Ventricular Response.

Atrial flutter is usually associated with tachycardia with a ventricular rate of 150 beats per minute. Less commonly, it may be associated with a slow ventricular response (SVR). This is typically seen in patients taking atrioventricular (AV) nodal blocking agents such as beta-blockers. In the absence of these drugs, atrial flutter with SVR may suggest intrinsic AV nodal disease, electrolyte disturbances, or atrial disease. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the causative agent of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), continues to wreak havoc, threatening the public health services and imposing economic collapse worldwide. Tailoring public health responses to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic depends on understanding the mechanism of viral replication, disease pathogenesis, accurately identifying acute infections, and mapping the spreading risk of hotspots across the globe. However, effective identification and isolation of persons with asymptomatic and mild SARS-CoV-2 infections remain the major obstacles to efforts in controlling the SARS-CoV-2 spread and hence the pandemic. Understanding the mechanism of persistent viral shedding, reinfection, and the post-acute sequalae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) is crucial in our efforts to combat the pandemic and provide better care and rehabilitation to survivors. Here, we present a living literature review (January 2020 through 15 March 2021) on SARS-CoV-2 viral persistence, reinfection, and PASC. We also highlight potential areas of research to uncover putative links between viral persistence, intra-host evolution, host immune status, and protective immunity to guide and direct future basic science and clinical research priorities.

Submucosal esophageal hematoma (SEH) is an uncommon clinical entity and a rare form of esophageal insult. Patients usually present with retrosternal chest pain and dysphagia, which often make the diagnosis of SEH difficult as it mimics common cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders. One of the common inciting factors includes the use of anticoagulants. 19. Tumefactive Multiple Sclerosis, A Rare Variant Presenting as Multiple Ring-enhancing Lesions in an Immunocompetent Patient: A Case Report.

- Abstract
Tumefactive multiple sclerosis (TMS) is a rare entity which can be difficult to diagnose unless definitive diagnostic measures are taken. TMS is characterized by solitary or multiple lesions that are sized > 2 cm, with/without mass effect, edema, and ring enhancement on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The demyelinating lesion can mimic infections, vascular lesions, and inflammatory lesions. The clinical presentation is highly dependent on the area of the brain which is affected, and this can lead to a variety of signs and symptoms. Herein, we present the case of a 40-year-old immunocompetent female with a history of right-sided numbness of her face, arm, and leg associated with muscle weakness for about a week. Workup included an MRI showing ring-enhancing lesions in the white matter of the brain, zero oligoclonal bands in the CSF, a normal immunoglobulin G (IgG) index, and an elevated myelin basic protein (MBP) in the CSF. A biopsy was obtained that showed predominant macrophage infiltrate with loss of myelin but the preservation of axons. Suspecting a demyelinating pathology, the patient was informed that she would be started on intravenous dexamethasone for an eight-day course. With subsequent completion of this course in the hospital, the patient was discharged on oral prednisone daily for a month and a referral leading to a definitive diagnosis of TMS. The patient was started on interferon beta-1a and subsequently relapsed due to noncompliance. However, further workup showed a reduction in the mass-like lesions and a response to therapy. If suspicion for TMS is high despite workup, steroids can be used with immunomodulators in the interim to combat symptoms and potentially reduce lesions and potentially subvert the need for biopsy., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist.

20. Pulmonary vein thrombosis secondary to tuberculosis in a non-HIV infected patient.

- Abstract
Our patient is a 67-year-old male with a past medical history significant for hypertension and hyperlipidemia came to a hospital with hemoptysis. He was also having cough and shortness of breath for the last 1 month. He said that his hemoptysis was about 1 cup per day mixed with yellowish sputum. He noticed around 20 pounds of weight loss in the last 1 month. He also complained of night sweats but had no fever. He had no history of travel outside the USA. He has never been incarcerated before, but he endorsed that his son has been to Jail before and he visited him twice a year in patient's home. But he also said that his son has never been diagnosed with TB. He smoked 1.5 packs per day for the last 50 years and quit smoking 2 months ago. His medication include hydrochlorothiazide, lisinopril, gabapentin, aspirin and trazodone. On examination, vital signs were within the normal range except a hearty rate of 106 beats/minute. He had slightly pale conjunctiva, non-icteric sclera and had wet tongue and buccal mucosa. There was decreased air entry with crepitations in the right side of the posterior chest but no wheezes or rales. No peripheral lymphadenopathy, no peripheral edema or sign of fluid collection in the abdomen. Chest x ray showed multiple cavitary lesion in the right upper lobe area. CT scan of the chest with PE protocol showed pulmonary venous partial thrombosis in the right upper lobe. Multiple cavitary lesions with hilar and mediastinal lymphadenopathy. There are also smaller nodular lesions in the left chest too. Small right pleural effusion with multiple calcified granulomata in the left upper lobe. QuantiFERON gold test was found to be positive. Sputum AFB smear was found to be strongly positive and it is sensitive to rifampin. Echocardiography showed no valvular lesions with preserved ejection fraction (>65%) and normal right ventricular size and normal right ventricular systolic pressure. Liver enzymes and renal function tests were found within the normal limit. HIV test was negative. Patient was started with intensive phase anti-tuberculosis treatment with rifampin, isoniazid, ethambutol, pyrazinamide with vitamin B6. He was also started with anticoagulation with heparin and warfarin considering the tuberculosis being the cause of the pulmonary vein thrombosis. Patient was also given supportive treatment and he made a gradual improvement and was discharged with anti-tuberculosis treatment and warfarin. Patient needed to be placed on a higher dose of warfarin as it was difficult to keep him therapeutic with lower doses. He was also advised to follow with infectious disease and anticoagulation clinic. Patient was found to have a significant increase in liver enzymes and bilirubin on follow up and the anti-TB medications were stopped to be restarted one by one with a follow up of his liver enzymes and liver function tests. He was also continued with warfarin.

- Abstract
Purpose: The most widely studied candidate gene for endurance performance is the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene. The best endurance runners in the world hail from Kenya and Ethiopia, so the lack of association between the ACE gene and elite endurance athlete status we previously reported in Kenyans requires replication in Ethiopians., Methods: DNA was extracted from buccal swabs collected from subjects filling four groups: elite endurance runners from the Ethiopian national athletics team specializing in 5 km to marathon distances (n = 76), controls demographically matched to the elite endurance athletes (n = 410), controls representing the general Ethiopian population (n = 317), and sprint and power event athletes from the Ethiopian national athletics team (n = 38). ACE I/D and A22982G (rs4363) genotype frequencies were determined for each of these groups, and differences between groups were assessed using χ(2) tests., Results: There were no significant deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in endurance athletes or either control group. Endurance athletes did not differ significantly in ACE I/D genotype frequency when compared with the endurance athlete-matched control group (P = 0.16), general controls (P = 0.076), or sprint and power athletes (P = 0.39) (endurance athletes: 15.8% II, endurance athlete-matched controls: 8.8% II, general controls: 7.6% II, sprint and power athletes: 10.5% II). Similarly, no significant differences were found in ACE A22982G genotype between groups (endurance athletes: 13.2% AA, endurance athlete-matched controls: 12.2% AA, general controls: 12.0% AA, sprint and power athletes: 13.2%; endurance athletes vs endurance athlete-matched controls: P = 0.97, endurance athletes vs general controls: P = 0.95, endurance athletes vs sprint and power athletes: P = 0.52)., Conclusions: As previously shown in elite Kenyan athletes, ACE I/D and A22982G polymorphisms are not associated with elite endurance athlete status in Ethiopians.
