Abstract

The complement of microRNAs (miRNAs) expressed in Arabidopsis inflorescence is characterized to considerable depth by analyzing an rdr2 loss-of-function mutant using two different parallel sequencing technologies, Massively Parallel Signature Sequencing (MPSS), and 454. Deep sequencing of mutants provides a genetic approach for the dissection and characterization of diverse small RNA populations and the identification of low abundance miRNAs.

Abstract

Genomic and expressed signatures were generated representing transcripts from model plant Arabidopsis. A comparison of the signatures suggests that these genomic signatures contained one of 20 four-base words consistently associated with reduced massively parallel signature sequencing (MPSS) abundances.
