Integrating the natural resource-based view theory, contingency theory and paradox theory, the current study investigates the impact of the green smart technologies adoption (GSTA) and green ambidextrous leadership (GAL) on green innovation performance (GIP), along with the mediating role of Green Innovation Behaviour (GIB). The research design for this study consists of a quantitative method, a positivism paradigm, a cross-sectional time horizon and a structured questionnaire survey. A total of 313 responses from Malaysian manufacturing firms were analysed using partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that GSTA, GAL and GIB positively impact GIP. Moreover, GIB mediates the association between GSTA and GIP, but there is no mediation observed in the GAL–GIP association. The results of this study provide valuable insights for policymakers, management and relevant stakeholders in developing countries on how to strike the right balance of exploitation and exploration leadership in uncertain and volatile market settings, while fostering GSTA and GIP. The adoption of GSTA and GAL improves manufacturing companies’ sustainability. Furthermore, these findings contribute to the Malaysian government’s commitment to the Nationally Determined Contribution towards the Paris Agreement, the Shared Prosperity 2030 vision and the proposed 15 key economic growth activities.

Global warming is becoming more and more of a concern, leading authorities to take action. The industrial sector is a key contributor to environmental and social problems. Based on stakeholder theory and agency theory, this research proposes that green innovation strategies at the firm level can overcome the industry’s negative environmental impact. As a result, the focus of this research is on green innovation strategies for corporate financing. In addition, this research suggests that corporate social responsibility and gender diversity directly affect corporate financing and their interaction. This study used Chinese 301 manufacturing firms (3010 observations) for the period 2010–2019 for this purpose. This study looks into panel data issues in depth by using approaches such as the fixed effect and generalized method of moment. The feasible generalized least square was employed to increase robustness. Furthermore, green innovation strategies were used for corporate financing. Second, the study discovered that corporate social responsibility aided firm financing. Our findings also imply that corporate social responsibility helps to attenuate the association amid green innovative strategies and corporate financing. Finally, these findings revealed that gender diversity had a favorable effect on corporate financing. Furthermore, this study confirmed that the moderating role of gender diversity is beneficial to green innovative strategies and corporate financing. These findings add to the literature by providing policymakers and regulatory bodies with useful information for advancing sustainable development.

Corporate financial responsibility is the sole driving force of business in the business sector, as the primary goals of a firm are to maximize profit and grow shareholder value. However, in the previous decade, larger corporate obligations have been recognized, including environmental, local community, working conditions, and ethical standards. With the rise of "sustainability" reasons, unprecedented climate change is being measured into corporate strategy in the direction of sustainable thinking. The triple bottom line (TBL) is a sustainability assessment that combines environmental and social factors in addition to profitability and the rate of return on investment. The purpose of this research is to look into the interrelationships between the three dimensions of sustainable performance measurement (SPM) in Malaysian manufacturing companies. A questionnaire is issued to 600 manufacturing companies in the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) as part of a quantitative data collection approach. All the proposed hypotheses are supported, thus showing the interrelationship between three dimensions of SPM existed. Consequently, Malaysian companies are lagging behind in terms of SPM’s adoption compared to developed countries. Because of that, more government efforts to facilitate the adoption of SPM practice among companies are needed. The sole focus on the manufacturing industry, accuracy of data collection and time constraint are the limitations of this study. Therefore, it is suggested that further research should explore more the interrelationship between the three dimensions of SPM.

This study investigates the sway of stakeholder integration and green investment on Environmental Sustainability Practices (ESP), as well as the moderating role of Green Technology Adoption (GTA) in Bangladesh Textile small and medium enterprises (SMEs). A questionnaire has been used to collect data from 140 textile SMEs and analysed using the quantitative survey method. The findings have revealed that Buyer Pressure (BP), Governmental regulations (GR), and Green Investment (GI) have significant effects on ESP, but not Supplier pressure (SP). The study has also evidenced the insignificant moderating influence of GTA on the relationships among BP, GR, GI, except SP. This study makes a conceptual contribution by highlighting the relationships among these constructs and confirming the lack of stakeholder integration. The findings of the research extend the understanding and comprehensiveness of Stakeholder theory (ST) and Transaction Cost Economics (TCE) theory by providing empirical insights from the firm level. Consequently, the outcomes promote environmental practices and offer food for thought for policymakers, compliance managers, entrepreneurs, and relevant stakeholders.

Turning environmental strategies into competitive advantage in the Malaysian manufacturing industry: mediating role of environmental innovation The environmental literature has focused on examining how firms leverage environmental innovation to convert environmental challenges into driving forces of competitive advantage. This paper enhances the knowledge on the implementation of environmental strategies in the Malaysian manufacturing industry by examining the impacts of environmental shared vision and environmental strategic focus on competitive advantage in the greening of the industry. The Smart PLS technique was used to analyse data collected from 124 Malaysian manufacturing firms on their environmental strategies as well as their implications for competitive advantage and environmental innovation. The findings suggest that environmental innovation mediates the positive exchange between firms’ environmental strategies and competitive advantage. The study provides valuable information for manufacturers in crafting their corporate competitive strategies, policies, and action plans. The direct and indirect roles of environmental innovation in fostering competitive advantage suggest that manufacturers should prioritise their environmental activities by enhancing innovation outcomes to achieve a successful green business status.

This study is aimed to investigate the relationship between environmental performance, environmental innovation, and financial performance of firms. A total of 124 responses were collected from managers of manufacturers certified by ISO 14001 EMS in Malaysia, and the data was subjected to a structural equation analysis using the Smart PLS version 3.2.7 software. The results have endorsed environmental competitive capabilities i.e. environmental innovation and environmental performance as the key enablers for the creation of economic values for environmental proactive manufacturing firms. Moreover, environmental innovation is also found to be the mediator that transforms the benefits of environmental performance into financial performance.

This study aims to assess the effects of corporate governance attributes consists of proportion of independent directors, non-duality of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), board size and managerial ownership on environmental disclosure quality of Malaysian public listed companies. Besides good financial returns, companies today are also expected by its stakeholders to contribute back to the society in terms of sustainability activities despite Malaysia is still in the midst of improving the corporate governance. The composition of corporate board assistances in improving corporate performance remains as an issue. Environmental improvement and contribution commonly made through environmental disclosure, however, besides complying with regulations and being voluntary in reporting on environmental, the quality of the environmental disclosure is still unclear. This study is carried out in Malaysia among companies in environmentally sensitive industry as the operations of environmentally sensitive industry are considered to be more detrimental to the environment. Data are extracted from companies’ annual reports over five years’ duration, namely year 2012 to 2016. The data collected is being analyzed using panel data analysis. The proportion of independent directors and non-duality of CEO are significant in improving the environmental disclosure quality of Malaysian listed companies.

Environmental issues are attracting increasing attention in Malaysia with the tremendous increase in waste generation; the cost of production and waste treatment is getting expensive. Data from the Malaysian Environmental Department shows that 80% of the waste is generated by the manufacturing industry. Firms are constantly requested to change their business practices to incorporate environmental activities. It also indicates that future natural resources are being squandered as waste due to less exposure to environmental management accounting, which results in unproductivity, overproduction, increase in total delivery cost, or inefficiency in manufacturing plant. This research exploits the quantitative research methodology to understand the relationship between contingent factors, which are uncertainty in the environment, organizational size, environmental strategy, regulatory pressure, and top management commitment that influence environmental management accounting and environmental performance among manufacturing companies in Klang Valley, Selangor. The survey was conducted on manufacturing companies located in Klang Valley, based on the 2,400 companies registered in the Federal Malaysian Manufacturer (FMM) database. 600 questionnaires were sent out to manufacturing companies and the finding highlights that the uncertainty in the environment, regulatory pressure, and top management commitment significantly affect environmental performance.

The rise of accounting-related scandals has highlighted the prevalence of earnings management in financial markets. This paper offers empirical evidence on the motivations for earnings management in Malaysia public listed family firms. A sample of 100 family firms were randomly selected from Bursa Malaysia from the years 2010 to 2014, which resulted in 500 observations in total. The results indicate that the equity ownership held by a controlling family is associated with the earnings management in the firm, since the controlling family has greater power and rights in decision-making. However, the involvement of the controlling family as board of directors is not associated with earnings management in the family firm, since the non-executive member of the board will become the chairman to oversee and monitor the business operations of the family firm. The indirect ownership of the controlling family in family firms does not provide greater opportunity for them to manage earnings through direct equity shares held by other family members because they have limited power through indirect ownership.

This study aims to investigate the relationship between chief executive officer (CEO) shareholding and company performance. Specifically, the study investigates the influence of the level of direct and indirect CEO shareholdings on the market growth, profitability and liquidity of companies. A sample comprising 59 companies was obtained from Bursa Malaysia within a five-year period from 2009 to 2013. Results reveal that most CEOs of Malaysian listed companies own company shares either directly or indirectly. The CEOs of listed companies in Malaysia tend to retain controlling stakes by possessing a significant amount of shares in their companies. As a result, these companies demonstrate improved financial performance.

Nowadays, corporations are facing the challenges of publishing environmental disclosures as the public concerns on the environmental issues have increased. A controversial issue is whether firms with environmental disclosures will result in a better financial performance since, there is an increasing trend for large companies chooses to make environmental disclosures voluntarily. This study aims to examine the relationship between environmental disclosures and financial performance of public listed companies in Malaysia. Content analysis approach was adopted to determine the quantity and quality of the environmental disclosure in the annual reports of 100 companies listed on the Main Board of Bursa Saham Malaysia for the year 2009 until 2013. The results show that only the quality of environmental disclosure has the positive relationship with the company’s Earnings per Share (EPS). This study also indicates that larger companies disseminated more environmental information as well as provided better quality disclosure. Interestingly, the results of this study indicated that less environmentally sensitive industries disclosed more and higher quality of environmental disclosure than environmentally sensitive industries. In conclusion, the environmental disclosures practices in Malaysia is still in an adaptation stage as many Malaysia companies still do not disclose any environmental information in their annual reports. Hence, more effective efforts are needed from regulatory bodies to increase the environmental awareness in Malaysia.

The paper aims to explore the relationship between ISO 14001 certification and a company's financial performance to investigate whether the certification to ISO 14001 environmental management standard has benefited the company's financial performance or not. Using Malaysia as the research context, the results of a linear regression analysis show that firms with above-average performance have a greater tendency to pursue ISO 14001 certification. The findings also indicate that there is a significant relationship between ISO14001 certification and a company's financial performance in an emerging economy context. The reason is the adoption of ISO 14001 standard does offers many benefits to companies, such as greater reputation and brand awareness on one hand, and higher sales and investors' confidence on the other. The ISO 14001 certification helps to develop a better system which leads to costs reduction and revenue increase in the long run.
