El nuevo planteamiento educativo revela la urgencia de repensar los objetivos, replantear los contenidos e innovar en las metodologías; reorientar todo ello a la consecución de la cooperación internacional y al cuidado del medio ambiente. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC) at the University of Pittsburgh, these papers present the most current and innovative research on cognition and instruction. Knowing, Learning, and Instruction pays homage to Robert Glaser, founder of the LRDC, and includes debates and discussions about issues of fundamental importance to the cognitive science of instruction.

The International Conference on Education, Reflection and Development took place in May 2013 at Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. TThe event was organized by the Educational Sciences Department of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, and brought together participants from various different countries, including Israel, Greece, Turkey, Republic of Moldova, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Romania. The conference gave these scholars the opportunity to discuss a wide range of topics relevant for teacher training and related to didactic research in the context of globalization. It also provided numerous opportunities for the development of projects and international collaborations in the future. Given its wide scope, the conference was attended by a variety of of participants, including academic staff interested, or working, in the field of the social sciences, particularly those concerned with education; teachers from all over the world, looking for new findings, ideas and solutions; researchers in the pedagogical field; and university students, at both the undergraduate and graduate level, looking for research models or for partners in their field of study and interest. This volume brings together several of the best papers presented at the conference, and will be of interest to anyone involved in the various fields of education.

These conference proceedings showcase a rich and practical exchange of approaches and vital evidence-based practices taking place around the world. They clarify the complex challenges involved in bringing about a holistic educational environment in schools and institutes of higher learning that fosters greater understanding and offer valuable insights on how to avoid the pitfalls that come with rolling out holistic approaches to education. To do so, the proceedings focus on the subthemes Support and Development, Mobility and Diversity and Networking and Collaboration in Holistic Education.

Digital media provide humans with more access to information than ever before—a computer, tablet, or smartphone can all be used to access data online and users frequently have more than one device. However, as humans continue to venture into the digital frontier, it remains to be known whether access to seemingly unlimited information is actually helping us learn and solve complex problems, or ultimately creating more difficulty and confusion for individuals and societies by offering content overload that is not always meaningful. Throughout history, technology has changed the way humans interact with the world. Improvements in tools, language, industrial machines, and now digital information technology have shaped our minds and societies. There has always been access to more information than humans can handle, but the difference now lies in the ubiquity of the Internet and digital technology, and the incredible speed with which anyone with a computer can access and participate in seemingly infinite information exchange. Humans now live in a world where mobile digital technology is everywhere, from the classroom and the doctor's office to public transportation and even the dinner table. This paradigm shift in technology comes with tremendous benefits and risks. Interdisciplinary Research (IDR) Teams at the 2012 National Academies Keck Futures Initiative Conference on The Informed Brain in the Digital World explored common rewards and dangers to Humans among various fields that are being greatly impacted by the Internet and the rapid evolution of digital technology. Keynote speaker Clifford Nass of Stanford University opened the dialogue by offering insight into what we already know about how the'information overload'of the digital world may be affecting our brains. Nass presented the idea of the'media budget,'which states that when a new media emerges, it takes time away from other media in a daily time budget. When additional media appear and there is no time left in a person's daily media budget, people begin to'double book'media time. Personal computers, tablets, and smartphones make it easy to use several media simultaneously, and according to Nass, this double-booking of media can result in chronic multitasking, which effects how people store and manage memory. Although current fast-paced work and learning environments often encourage multitasking, research shows that such multitasking is inefficient, decreases productivity, and may hinder cognitive function. National Academies Keck Future Initiative: The Informed Brain in a Digital World summarizes the happenings of this conference.

Over the past twenty years the International Study Association on Teachers and Teaching (ISATT) has become world-renowned as an organisation dedicated to the discussion of current thinking in educational policy and practice. As such, the ideas aired at ISATT conferences are of the greatest significance to today's educational practitioners. This book satisfies the demand for a lasting record of ISATT's illuminating discussions on the theme. In this anthology, teachers and scholars examine the ways in which teaching is a performance that incorporates acts of impersonation.Drawn from a conference on classroom dynamics, this anthology explores both the personal and performative aspects of teacher-student relationships. After David Crane's prefatory “postscript,” George Otte recommends that students pretend, writing from various perspectives; Indira Karamcheti suggests putting on race as one can put on gender roles. Cheryl Johnson gets personal by playing the “trickster,” and Chris Amirault explores the relationship between the teacher and “the good student.”While Karamcheti, Gallop, and Lynne Joyrich use theatrical vehicles to structure their essays, Joseph Litvak, Arthur W. Frank, and Naomi Scheman incorporate performance as examples. Madeleine R. Grumet theorizes pedagogy, while Roger I. Over the past ten years there has been increased interest in research on various aspects of teacher education, ranging from the preparation of teachers to continuing professional development. The increase of interest in how teachers become competent in very complex social settings is a result of a general recognition by researchers and policy makers alike that teachers are the key to any serious efforts at educational reform. This book addresses a variety of issues surrounding the field of inquiry into teaching practice that has become known as'self-study', equivalent in many ways to the'action research'movement, but at tertiary level.
