13. Treatment of refractory heart failure with trimazosin.

Abstract

Seven patients with severe heart failure resistant to conventional treatment with digoxin and diuretics were given trimazosin, a new mixed arterial and venous vasodilator. There was a mean 31% fall in left ventricular filling pressure (P > 0.005) and a mean 25% rise in cardiac index (P> 0.05). One patient failed to respond. In three patients these haemodynamic changes resulted in excellent clinical and radiological improvement which was maintained for months. No side-effects were found. Oral trimazosin is a long-acting effective mixed vasodilator which improves left ventricular function in patients with chronic resistant left ventricular failure. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

15. Renal vein thrombosis in cases of polyarteritis nodosa and of the Henoch-Schoenlein syndrome.

Abstract

The occurrence of renal vein thrombosis in a case each of polyarteritis nodosa and the Henoch-Schoenlein syndrome is reported. It is suggested that obliteration of the arterioles that supply the walls of the veins may have initiated the venous thrombosis in these two cases. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

16. A DOUBLE‐BUND CROSSOVER TRIAL OF ATENOLOL, ENALAPRIL AND THE FIXED COMBINATION OF ATENOLOL AND NIFEDIPINE IN MILD AND MODERATE HYPERTENSION

Abstract

Sixty‐three patients with mild to moderate hypertension completed a double‐blind, randomised crossover trial of atenolol 100 mg daily, enalapril 20 mg daily and the fixed combination atenolol 50 mg and nifedipine retard 20 mg (Tenif) once daily. In the three areas of efficacy that the study compared – 24‐hour post dose blood pressure, control of blood pressure over the dosing period with particular reference to the waking day and attenuation of systolic blood pressure on exercise – atenolol and the fixed combination demonstrated greater efficacy than enalapril.
