ABSTRACT Objectives There is a growing evidence to suggest augmenting peri‐implant keratinized mucosa in the presence of ≤ 2 mm of keratinized mucosa. However, the most appropriate surgical technique and augmentation materials have yet to be defined. The aim of this systematic review and meta‐analyses was to evaluate the clinical and patient‐reported outcomes of augmenting keratinized mucosa around implants using free gingival graft (FGG) versus xenogeneic collagen matrix (XCM) before commencing prosthetic implant treatment. Material and Methods Electronic databases were searched to identify observational studies comparing implant sites augmented with FGG to those augmented with XCM. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration's Risk of Bias tool. Results Six studies with 174 participants were included in the present review. Of these, 87 participants had FGG, whereas the remaining participants had XCM. At 6 months, sites augmented with FGG were associated with less changes in the gained width of peri‐implant keratinized mucosa compared to those augmented with XCM (mean difference 1.06; 95% confidence interval −0.01 to 2.13; p = 0.05). The difference, however, was marginally significant. The difference between the two groups in changes in thickness of peri‐implant keratinized mucosa at 6 months was statistically significantly in favor of FGG. On the other hand, XCM had significantly shorter surgical time, lower postoperative pain score, and higher color match compared to FGG. Conclusions Within the limitation of this review, the augmentation of keratinized mucosa using FGG before the placement of the final prosthesis may have short‐term positive effects on soft tissue thickness. XCM might be considered in aesthetically demanding implant sites and where patient comfort or shorter surgical time is a priority. The evidence support, however, is of low to moderate certainty; therefore, further studies are needed to support the findings of the present review.

Abstract Objectives The coronavirus disease‐19 (COVID‐19) pandemic has caused disruption in the health behavior in many aspects of life. While hand hygiene was promoted as one of the precautionary measures to mitigate and contain COVID‐19, oral health and smoking might have received less attention in the media campaigns. The aim of this study was to examine health behavioral changes in terms of oral home care habits, smoking, and perception of dental care during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Material and Methods An online survey was designed to assess oral home care, smoking habits, and attitude toward dental services of participants aged 18 years and older. The data were collected between September and November 2021. The strength of association between changes in oral home care habits, smoking, and attitude toward invasive/long dental procedures and each variable was measured by χ2 analysis. Estimates of relative risk were also calculated for all variables. Predictors of avoiding dental procedures were estimated by a binary logistic regression. Results A total of 532 participants, based in the United Arab Emirates, took part in this online survey with a response rate of 88.7%. The age of the participants ranged between 18 and 67 with mean age of 34.9 ± 9.0 years. The majority of the participants have adopted changes in their routine oral home care habits, with 82.1% of them changing the toothbrush more frequently. Participants who changed their oral home care habits were more likely to have received sufficient information on the importance of maintaining oral health. Introduction: Crown lengthening is one of the most common periodontal surgical procedures carried out to increase the amount of supragingival tooth structure. There is a lot of literature on crown lengthening surgeries, but very few systematic reviews comparing treated and adjacent sites over a six-month period. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the outcomes of crown lengthening surgery in terms of changes in periodontal clinical parameters and periodontal tissue stability between treated and adjacent sites. Methods: Electronic databases were searched up to 28 February 2022 with no restriction on publication status. A manual search of journals was also performed. Predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria were used to select the relevant articles that assessed dimensional changes in periodontal tissues after crown lengthening surgery. The risk of bias was assessed using the JBI critical appraisal checklist. Data meta-analysis was performed using a statistical software program. Results: A total of 78 studies were identified, of which, four clinical controlled trials containing 182 crown lengthening surgical procedures across 111 participants were included. Meta-analysis showed no statistically significant changes after three or six months in terms of supracrestal tissue attachment levels, bone level and probing pocket depth between treated and adjacent sites. However, clinical attachment level changes were statistically significant, favouring adjacent teeth at six months. Conclusions: Within the limitation of this systematic review, crown lengthening surgery results in stable periodontal tissues over time according to the acceptable periodontal healing parameters. Further evidence is still required to substantiate these findings.

Light-curing units (LCUs) are often subject to clinician-determined factors such as infection control barriers (ICBs) and different positionings of the light tip that may reduce their radiant exposure. The objective of this study was to investigate the individual and cumulative effects of ICBs and LCU positioning on light output. One LCU was used, in combination with five different ICBs and five different distances and angles. ICBs were also tested when placed correctly to manufacturers’ guidelines, and with creases or seams obstructing the light tip. All variables were tested in isolation and in combination with other variables. Measurements were taken from a laboratory-grade spectrometer, giving values of radiant exposure, irradiance and spectral emission. All ICBs, angles and distances showed significant reductions in light output compared to the control (p < 0.001). With increasing angle and distance, the light output was decreased further, with the greatest reduction of 80.6% from the control seen at 40° and 8 mm with an incorrectly placed ICB. When used with an ICB, an increasing angle also showed a protective relationship on the light output. When ICBs are used or when an increase in distance/angle is unavoidable, clinicians should consider compensating for the loss in radiant exposure by increasing curing times.

Complications such as peri-implantitis could ultimately affect the survival of a dental implant. The prevention and treatment of peri-implant diseases require managing bacterial biofilm and controlling environmental risks, including the presence of pro-inflammatory titanium (Ti) particles in the peri-implant niche. Objectives included the evaluation of the size and quantity of Ti particles released from moderately roughened Ti surfaces during common mechanical surface decontamination methods. One hundred and forty moderately roughened Ti discs were divided into seven groups (n = 20 per group); six groups received mechanical decontamination procedures (ultrasonic scaling (US) with a metal tip and poly-ether-ketone (PEEK) under low and medium power settings, air-polishing with erythritol powder, and Ti brush), and the control group underwent air–water spray using a dental triplex. The rinsing solution was collected for Ti mass analysis using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS), as well as for Ti particle size and count analysis under scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). US metal tip instrumentation generated 34.00 ± 12.54 μg and 34.44 ± 6.08 μg of Ti under low and medium power settings, respectively. This amount of Ti generation was significantly higher than other instrumentation methods. The mean Ti particle size of the US groups ranged from 0.89 ± 0.27 μm to 1.25 ± 0.24 μm. No statistically significant difference was found in the particle size among US groups and Ti brush group (1.05 ± 0.11 μm), except for US with the PEEK tip, where a significantly smaller mean particle diameter was found at the low power setting (0.89 ± 0.27 μm). Mechanical instrumentation can produce Ti particulates and modify the implant surfaces. US using a metal tip generated the highest amount of Ti with smaller Ti size particles compared to all other commonly used mechanical surface instrumentations. The EDS analysis confirmed Ti in PEEK US tips. It can be suggested that deterioration from the PEEK US tip and Ti brush, as observed under SEM, is an additional source of Ti release during Ti surface decontamination.

Objective: The aim of this randomized controlled trial was to assess clinical and patient reported outcomes of subgingival instrumentation (SI) with adjunctive use of diode laser (DL) versus SI alone in the treatment of periodontitis. Methods: Participants requiring non‐surgical periodontal treatment were randomly allocated into two treatment groups: SI with DL or SI alone. Clinical parameters [full mouth bleeding and plaque scores (FMBS and FMPS), probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level] were recorded at baseline, three and 6 months post‐treatment. Visual analogue scale was used to evaluate postoperative participants' perception of pain, swelling, bleeding, bruising and root sensitivity. The impact of periodontal treatment on quality of life was assessed using the General Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI) at 6 months. Results: A total of 22 participants with stage III/IV periodontitis completed the 6‐month follow‐up. SI with or without DL resulted in statistically significant reduction in FMBS, FMPS, PPDs, and percentage of PPDs of ≥5 mm at 3‐ and 6‐month follow‐up visits (p = 0.001 to <0.001). The participants in SI/DL group had a greater reduction in the percentage of deep PPDs (≥5 mm) compared to those receiving SI alone, but statistically significant differences between the two groups were not observed (16.40 ± 9.57 vs. 32.50 ± 38.76 at 3 months and 7.20 ± 6.86 vs. 19.50 ± 35.06 at 6 months). The difference in the mean total GOHAI scores was not statistically significant at 6 months with total GOHAI scores of 7.25 ± 2.45 and 5.40 ± 3.06 for SI and SI/DL groups, respectively. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, the use of DL as an adjunct to SI in the treatment of stage III/IV periodontitis did not produce significant additional improvement in clinical parameters or patient reported outcomes in the 6‐month observation period. Background and Objective. Several risk factors have been implicated in onset and development of peri-implant diseases. The impact of these factors, however, remains controversial across the different clinical settings and populations. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the risk factors for peri-implant diseases among an Emirati population. Methods. A retrospective analysis of patients aged ≥18 years and having dental implants placed at Dubai Health Authority in 2010. Relevant information related to systemic-, patient-, implant-, site-, surgical- and prosthesis-related factors were collected. The strength of association between the prevalence of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis and each variable was measured by chi-square analysis. A binary logistic regression analysis was performed to identify possible risk factors. Results. A total of 162 patients with 301 implant-supported restorations were included in the study. The age of the patients ranged between 19 and 72 with a mean age of 46.4 ± 11.7 years. The prevalence of peri-implant mucositis at the patient and implant levels were 44.4% and 38.2%, respectively. For peri-implantitis, the prevalence at the patient level was 5.6%, while the prevalence at the implant level was 4.0%. The binary logistic regression identified three risk factors (smoking habits, histories of treated periodontitis and lack of peri-implant maintenance) for peri-implantitis. Conclusion. Within the limitations of this study, smoking habits, history of treated periodontitis and lack of peri-implant maintenance were significant risk factors for peri-implantitis. Early detection of these factors would ensure appropriate planning and care of patients at high risk of developing peri-implant diseases.

Alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) reduces dimensional changes following tooth extraction. We evaluated the changes in alveolar ridge dimensions after ARP using bone substitutes and collagen membranes. Objectives included the tomographic evaluation of sites prior to extraction and six months after ARP and the assessment of the extent ARP preserved the ridge and reduced the need for additional augmentation at the time of implant placement. A total of 12 participants who underwent ARP in the Postgraduate Periodontics Clinic (Faculty of Dentistry) were included. Cone beam computed tomography images were used to retrospectively assess 17 sites prior to and six months after dental extraction. Alveolar ridge changes were recorded and analysed using reproducible reference points. The alveolar ridge height was measured at buccal and palatal/lingual aspects, whilst width was measured at crestal level, 2 mm, 4 mm and 6 mm below the crest. Statistically significant changes were found in alveolar ridge width at all four heights, with mean reduction differences ranging from 1.16 mm to 2.84 mm. Likewise, significant changes in the palatal/lingual alveolar ridge height (1.28 mm) were observed. However, changes of 0.79 mm in buccal alveolar ridge height were not significant (p = 0.077). Although ARP reduced dimensional changes following a tooth extraction, some degree of alveolar ridge collapse could not be avoided. The amount of resorption on the buccal aspect of the ridge was less compared to the palatal/lingual after ARP. This indicated that the use of bone substitutes and collagen membranes was effective in reducing changes in the buccal alveolar ridge height.

Abstract Objectives The aim of this study was to evaluate by light microscopy analysis the effect of the use of miniaturised piezoelectric tips versus mini‐five area specific curets on calculus removal and postoperative root surface alterations. Methods A total of 20 extracted teeth were used. Two square surfaces (5×5 mm) were marked on each root surface with a diamond bur mounted on a high‐speed handpiece. Before and after instrumentation, a series of magnified images (4.2×) of each experimental surface were taken with a standardized approach. According to a randomization list, the two surfaces on each sample were instrumented in a standardised fashion either with a mine‐five curet or a slim piezoelectric tip. The images were processed using an imaging software. Data were summarised as means and standard deviations for the two outcomes (calculus and alterations.) at each time (pre and post) for both of the groups (manual and mechanical). Results Both manual and mechanical instrumentation significantly reduced the calculus deposits (p < .001) without significant differences between the two groups. Both manual and mechanical treatments significantly increased alterations (p < .01). There was a statistically significant evidence of a greater increase in alterations from mechanical treatment. Conclusions Slim mechanical piezoelectric tips and manual mini‐five area‐specific curets have similar effects on calculus removal. Manual instrumentation results in a more homogeneous postoperative root surface with less root alterations.

Background: The use of systemic azithromycin (AZT) and amoxicillin/metronidazole (AMX/MTZ) as adjuncts provided additional clinical and microbiological benefits over subgingival instrumentation alone. However, the superiority of one antibiotic regimen over another has not been proven. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review and meta‐analyses was to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of subgingival instrumentation (SI) in conjunction with the systemic use of AZT or AMX/MTZ for the treatment of periodontitis from current published literature. Methods: Electronic databases were searched to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs), controlled clinical trials, prospective and retrospective human studies that compared the adjunctive use of systemic AZT to AMX/MTZ with SI in the treatment of periodontitis. The eligibility criteria were defined based on the participant (who had periodontitis), intervention (SI with adjunctive use of systemic AZT), comparison (SI with adjunctive use of systemic AMX/MTZ), outcomes (primary outcome: changes in probing pocket). The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration's Risk of Bias tool. Data were analysed using a statistical software program. Results: Five studies with 151 participants with periodontitis were included in the present review. Of these, 74 participants received adjunctive AZT, while the remaining participants received AMX/MTZ as an adjunct to SI. The adjunctive use of AZT and AMX/MTZ had comparable changes in probing pocket depths at 1–3 months with no statistically significant difference (mean difference (MD) 0.01; 95% CI –0.20 to 0.22; P = 0.94). The adjunctive use of AZT had significantly fewer number of residual sites with probing pocket depths of ≥5 mm at 1–3 months compared to the adjunctive use of AMX/MTZ (MD –3.41; 95% CI –4.73 to –2.10; P < 0.0001). The prevalence rates of adverse events among participants who received AZT and AMX/MTZ were 9.80% and 14.8%, respectively. The meta‐analysis showed that the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant (risk ratio 0.69; 95% CI 0.28 to 1.72; P = 0.43). Conclusions: Within the limitation of this review, there was no superiority between AZT and AMX/MTZ in terms of mean changes in probing pocket depths, clinical attachment level, bleeding on probing at 1–3 months. AZT seem to be associated with less sites with residual probing pocket depths of ≥5 mm at 1–3 months and fewer adverse events compared with AMX/MTZ. © 2023 Australian Dental Association. Good exposure of the preparation margins and haemostasis in the sulcular gingiva are necessary for accurate impressions to produce precise restorations. The use of cordless retraction paste material in implant dentistry is a relatively novel application. However, few studies have been conducted on the use of retraction pastes and their possible interaction with implant surfaces. Recent literature has described remnants on titanium implant surfaces and expressed the need for an assessment of the biocompatibility of the exposed surface (Chang et al.). This in vitro study evaluated the effect of a cordless gingival retraction paste on sterile titanium disks. Surface chemistry was determined using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and further investigated using laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). After exposure to retraction paste, surface chemistry alterations were identified. A fibroblast cell line (L929) was exposed to the disks and the live/dead viability/cytotoxicity assay was used to determine any effects on the proliferation and health of cells. The disks exposed to the retraction paste showed fewer dead cells compared to the unexposed disks. This was statistically significant.

Purpose: To retrospectively assess implant stability quotient (ISQ) values in patients who were followed up between 1998 and 2014 and to evaluate any correlations between ISQ and clinical parameters, such as change in marginal bone level (MBL).Materials and Methods: A total of 173 participants (65 men and 108 women; age range 21 to 85 years) and 383 implants were included. Implant location, MBL, and ISQ were recorded at surgery and at various recall times for statistical analysis. Mixed-model analysis was applied to evaluate the impact of clinical and demographic variables (time, implant location, patient gender) on ISQ and the correlation between ISQ and MBL. The level of significance was set at P < .05.Results: Of the 21 failed implants, 20 failed within 1 year of functional loading, resulting in a 10-year cumulative implant survival estimate of 95%. The failed implants had lower ISQs at surgery (52.3 ± 7.03) and baseline (52.5 ± 4.20) when compared to surviving implants (63.0 ± 10.74 at surgery and 62.3 ± 8.30 at baseline), and the difference was statistically significant at surgery (P < .05). The mean ISQs generally increased over time, but there were various patterns of changes between implants when grouped according to patient gender and implant location. There was no statistically significant correlation between the changes in ISQ and MBL (P = .211), despite an inverse relationship.Conclusion: Low initial ISQ values may help to identify implants at higher risk of failure. There may be various patterns of change over time in addition to an overall increase in ISQ values. Both similar and contradictory findings were found when compared to earlier literature, and a correlation between resonance frequency analysis and MBL change could not be identified. Cordless retraction paste material for gingival retraction in implant dentistry has recently become of interest to the clinician. However, few studies have been conducted on the use of retraction pastes and their possible interaction with implant surfaces. This in vitro study evaluated the effect of a cordless retraction paste material, Expasyl® (Acteon), on TiUnite® (Nobel Biocare) implant surfaces. Three areas of the fixtures were evaluated before and after contact with the retraction paste using scanning electron microscopy to evaluate changes in surface topography and energy-dispersive spectroscopy to identify any surface chemistry modifications. Alteration of the initial surface after exposure to Expasyl® was identified, with the implant collar showing the most changes.

El conflicto armado colombiano está lleno de enseñanzas para la resolución negociada de conflictos. En la medida en que ha sido una confrontación compleja y prolongada, los grupos armados se han convertido en protagonistas. Tanto sus objetivos como el uso de la violencia han generado controversias alrededor de cuáles deben ser las acciones o respuestas que se implementan para hacer frente a dichas situaciones. Al igual que en otros países, los actores involucrados han participado en numerosos acercamientos, diálogos políticos o procesos de paz, aportando experiencias de negociaciones que involucran a diferentes sectores de la sociedad civil, actores estatales, comunidad internacional y organizaciones multilaterales. En este sentido, resulta pertinente no sólo retomar el surgimiento, caracterización y posibles motivaciones de tres de los más grandes grupos al margen de la ley —paramilitares, ELN, FARC— que han participado en el conflicto, sino también explorar las formas de acercamiento a estos por parte del gobierno colombiano y sus diferentes administraciones, para así comprender la complejidad y las múltiples dimensiones desde las cuales se representan diversas visiones sobre la evolución del conflicto y los hechos de corta, mediana y larga duración, en tanto esto permite dilucidar las continuidades y discontinuidades que han dado paso a ver el fenómeno a través de causas culturales, complejos políticos o perspectivas económicas.

Mechanical plaque control appears to be the primary means of controlling supragingival dental plaque build-up. Although daily oral hygiene practices and periodic professional care are considered the basis for any program aimed at the prevention and treatment of oral diseases, these procedures are technically demanding, time consuming and can be affected by the compliance and manual dexterity of the patient. Individual skills and acquired behavior patterns determine effectiveness of a preventive program and oral hygiene practice. Successful preventive programs and home care procedures clearly depend on the interaction and commitment between the dental professional and the patient. Identifying the capacity of the individual to comply with the professional recommendations and evaluating the dexterity of the patient to remove supragingival dental plaque will permit the implementation of an adequate preventive program and can help on the selection of adjunctive antimicrobial agents and devices needed to reach an effective oral care routine.El control de la placa dental parece ser el mecanismo primario para controlar el crecimiento de la placa dental supragingival. Aunque la práctica diaria de la higiene bucal y el cuidado profesional periódico, son considerados la base para cualquier programa dirigido a la prevención y tratamiento de las enfermedades de la cavidad bucal, estos procedimientos son técnicamente exigentes, consumen tiempo y pueden ser afectados por la aceptación y la destreza manual del paciente. Las destrezas individuales y los patrones de comportamiento adquiridos, determinan la efectividad de un programa preventivo y la práctica de la higiene bucal. El éxito de los programas preventivos y los procedimientos del cuidado bucal en el hogar dependen claramente de la interacción y compromiso entre el odontólogo y el paciente. La importancia de identificar la capacidad del individuo para cumplir con las recomendaciones y la evaluación de la destreza del paciente para remover la placa dental supragingival, permitirán la implementación de un adecuado programa de prevención que podría ayudar a la selección de un agente antibacteriano coadyuvante y los dispositivos necesarios para alcanzar una rutina de cuidado bucal efectivo.

Dental plaque is still considered the main etiological factor for periodontal diseases. Our understanding of periodontal disease has advanced from the previous concepts where gingivitis slowly progressed to periodontitis to a more complex scenario that correlates several risk factors in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease. Among these factors, age has been associated with increased rates of periodontal disease as the population gets older. Although the loss of alveolar bone and periodontal attachment is common in the elderly population, and there is evident age-related changes in the periodontium, severe periodontitis is not a natural consequence of ageing. The importance of identifying the risk factors that participate in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease at an early phase, both of the individual and the disease, as well as evaluating the capacity of the individual to control dental plaque will enable the implementation of an adequate preventive program, where the needs and limitations of the individual are considered to specifically tailor the oral hygiene procedures and the mouthwashes to be used.La placa dental es aún considerada el factor etiológico primario de la enfermedad periodontal. La etiopatogenia de esta enfermedad ha avanzado del concepto anterior donde una gingivitis progresaba lentamente a una periodontitis, a un escenario más complejo donde varios factores de riesgo se correlacionan. Dentro estos factores, el envejecimiento ha sido asociado con mayores porcentajes de enfermedad periodontal a medida que la población envejece. Aunque la pérdida ósea y de inserción es común en el adulto mayor y los cambios del periodonto son evidentes con la edad, la enfermedad periodontal severa no es una consecuencia natural del envejecimiento. La importancia de identificar en una etapa temprana del individuo y de la enfermedad los factores de riesgo que participan en la patogenesis de la enfermedad periodontal, así como la evaluación de la capacidad del individuo para controlar la placa dental, permitirán la implementación de programas preventivos adecuados, donde las necesidades y limitaciones del individuo son consideradas para el establecimiento de procedimientos personalizados de higiene oral y el enjuague oral a utilizar.

Purpose: To assess any correlations between resonance frequency analysis (RFA) and other clinical measurements, namely changes in marginal bone level.Materials and Methods: A systematic review was performed to investigate the relationship between RFA and changes in marginal bone level. Clinical studies published up to May 1, 2018, were searched in electronic databases, including PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane, using the following MeSH terms: resonance frequency analysis; implant stability quotient; RFA; and ISQ, in combination with marginal bone level; marginal bone loss; and marginal bone resorption.Results: A total of 62 articles were included in this review after all abstracts and full-text articles were examined according to the inclusion/exclusion criteria. The Results and Discussion sections of investigations reporting both marginal bone level changes and RFA measurements were presented. Relevant findings regarding relationships between RFA and bone quality or insertion torque were also summarized. Most articles reported an overall increase in ISQs over the observation time; however, contradictory findings were found regarding the relationships between RFA measurements, marginal bone loss, and other parameters.Conclusion: A definitive conclusion could not be made, as mixed results were found in the few articles that reported significant associations and correlations between RFA measurements and bone loss, while others concluded the opposite. Heterogeneity between the studies further complicated interpretation. Longitudinal RFA measurements may still be valuable for evaluating implant stability when applied as a supplementary tool to radiographic assessments and other clinical examinations. Purpose: To assess the amount of contamination remaining on used healing abutments after autoclaving and to compare the effectiveness of two additional decontamination methods.Materials and Methods: After autoclaving, a total of 120 used healing abutments were divided equally into three groups: used healing abutments after autoclaving only (group 1); used healing abutments after autoclaving and air-flow polishing (Master Piezon, EMS) using erythritol powder (AIR-FLOW PLUS, EMS) (group 2); and used healing abutments after autoclaving and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl; 25 g/L) treatment (group 3). Residual contaminants were stained using Phloxine B (400 g/mL), and healing abutments were photographed using a light microscope with digital capture system (Nikon SMZ800). The proportion of stained (ie, contaminated) areas on each healing abutment was then measured using imaging software (ImageJ). The healing abutments were also examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM).Results: Mean proportion of surface area affected by residual contaminants on the body, top (screwdriver-engaging), and bottom (implant-abutment interface) surfaces for group 1 was 38.2% ± 28.34%, 30.0% ± 19.55%, and 18.7% ± 17.87%, respectively; group 2 showed 3.5% ± 4.90%, 5.3% ± 3.74%, and 5.4% ± 8.49%, respectively; and group 3 showed 0.3% ± 0.16%, 1.9% ± 2.14%, and 0.7% ± 1.02%, respectively. Autoclaving alone was insufficient for successful decontamination, while additional decontamination procedures significantly reduced remaining contaminants. NaOCl was significantly more effective than air polishing. SEM analysis showed no detectable differences in the surface appearance of titanium healing abutments.Conclusion: The results show that decontamination of used healing abutments is achievable, thus strengthening the feasibility of reusing healing abutments.
