Abstract

A simple and efficient method was developed to prepare the novel fluorescent tetra‐substituted thiophene derivatives. This method involves using the Gewald's conditions, followed by the Vilsmeier–Haack–Arnold (VHA) formylation. By judiciously controlling the use of the VHA reagent, we have selectively introduced a formyl group into position 5 of the thiophene. This had a direct impact on its fluorescence properties. The resulting compounds have showed an intense fluorescence in the emission wavelength range of 420–500 nm with a 10−6 M concentration. All new products have been structurally confirmed by spectroscopic data. The structure of compound 2g was confirmed by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A convenient and effective synthesis of imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine derivatives has been developed under microwave irradiations using Al2O3 as a catalyst in solvent-free conditions. The functionalized imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine derivatives are useful in biochemistry and medical science. In our investigation, the antimicrobial activity of the synthesized compounds was evaluated against 13 microorganisms, including 6 Gram-positive bacteria, 4 Gram-negative bacteria, and 3 pathogenic fungi. Bioactivity tests revealed that the majority of the compounds exhibited good antimicrobial activity. Finally, molecular docking simulations and ADME-T predictions were performed, showing that the most active compounds have good binding modes with microbial targets and promising pharmacokinetic safety profiles. Abstract

This study describes a simple, inexpensive, and effective method for the synthesis of new 5‐imino‐7‐aryle‐5H‐thiazolo[3,2‐a]pyrimidine‐3‐carbonitrile derivatives 4a‐e using a green procedure that does not require the use of heat or a base, creating a strategy that meets both economic and environmental demands. Various synthesized products were characterized via diverse techniques such as 1H‐NMR, infrared (FT‐IR), Mass spectroscopy (MS), and single crystal X‐ray diffraction. Using a fluorescence spectrometer, the 5‐imino‐7‐phenyle‐5H‐thiazolo[3.2‐a]pyrimidine‐3‐carbonitrile 4a has been tested as a potent fluorescent agent in mixture of DMSO/Water at 10−4 M in one hand, and on the other hand the results of our fluorescence evaluation studies with metal ions (Pb(II), Ba(II), Cd(II), Ni(II), Mn(II), Hg(II), Zn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Cu(II), La(II), Cr(III), and Fe(III)) have shown that this compound exhibits a turn‐on and turn‐off of the fluorescence to 4a compound with these metals, what forms poor to good interaction by these ions. This result represents the emergence of a new potential ligand for the two heavy cations Cd(II) and Pb(II), which are toxic and polluting, and whose detection is currently of high interest. As well, In the molecular docking evaluation study, it was determined that the 4e molecule has an exceptional ability to inhibit the binding energy of the tubulin protein by −9.13 kcal/mmol, compared to other compounds. Abstract

The effect of doping the bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (DGEBA)/m-xylylenediamine (mXDA) system with gold nanoparticles (AuNP) has been studied with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and dielectric analysis (DEA). The evolved heat (DHt), the glass transition temperature (Tg), and the associated activation energies of this relaxation process have been determined. Below a certain concentration of AuNPs (=8.5%, in mg AuNP/g epoxy matrix), Tg decreases linearly with the concentration of AuNPs, but above it, Tg is not affected. The degree of conversion a of this epoxy system was analyzed by the semiempirical Kamal’s model, evidencing that diffusion correction is required at high values of a. Activation energy values suggest that AuNPs can cause some impediments at the beginning of the crosslinking process (n-order mechanism). The slight difference between the initial decomposition temperature, as well as the temperature for which the degradation rate is at a maximum, for both systems can be accepted to be within experimental error. Mechanical properties (tension, compression, and bending tests) are not affected by the presence of AuNPs. Dielectric measurements show the existence of a second Tg at high temperatures, which was analyzed using the Tsagarapoulos and Eisenberg model of the mobility restrictions of network chains bound to the filler.

15. Evaluating the effectiveness of psychological assistance to primary schoolchildren with cognitive health disorders aimed at developing their self-regulation skills

Abstract

Introduction. The authors investigate the problem of developing self-regulation skills in primary schoolchildren with cognitive impairments within the education system. The purpose of the article is to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing the program of psychological support aimed at developing self-regulation as a way of enhancing adaptive strategies of behavior and components of self-regulation. Materials and Methods. The study employs a formative psychological and educational experiment (the action research). The collected empirical data were analyzed and summarized. The sample consisted of 456 students, aged between 8 to 11 years, who were divided into three groups: NID (normal intellectual development), ID (intellectual disability), and MID (mild intellectual disability). The data obtained were interpreted and subjected to statistical analysis using various methods of mathematical and statistical processing: the reliability of differences according to statistical criteria, the F * angular transformation, the criterion for comparing the distribution of Pearson χ2 levels, correlation analysis, the method of correlation pleiades. Results. The research findings have shown that program of psychological support aimed at formation of self-regulation developed and implemented by the authors has proven to be effective. It contributes to successful formation of self-regulation in children with cognitive impairment. The program is a socio-psychological resource for improving cognitive health in primary schoolchildren. Conclusions. The article concludes that the implementation of the program of psychological support has led to a significant increase in the indicators of self-regulation components in the subjects. The obtained data can be used by educational settings teaching children with cognitive disabilities to increase the effectiveness of classroom and extracurricular activities and their successful integration into society.

Abstract

Molecular epidemiology of circulating clinical isolates is crucial to improve prevention strategies. The Spanish Working Group on multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is a network that monitors the MDR-TB isolates in Spain since 1998. The aim of this study was to present the study of the MDR-TB and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) patterns in Spain using the different recommended genotyping methods over time by a national coordinated system. Based on the proposed genotyping methods in the European Union until 2018, the preservation of one method, MIRU-VNTR, applied to selected clustered strains permitted to maintain our study open for 20 years. The distribution of demographic, clinical and epidemiological characteristics of clustered and non-clustered cases of MDR/XDR tuberculosis with proportion differences as assessed by Pearson's chi-squared or Fisher's exact test was compared. The differences in the quantitative variables using the Student's-t test and the Mann-Whitney U test were evaluated. The results obtained showed a total of 48.4% of the cases grouped in 77 clusters. Younger age groups, having a known TB case contact (10.2% vs 4.7%) and XDR-TB (16.5% vs 1.8%) were significantly associated with clustering. The largest cluster corresponded to a Mycobacterium bovis strain mainly spread during the nineties. A total of 68.4% of the clusters detected were distributed among the different Spanish regions and six clusters involving 104 cases were grouped in 17 and 18 years. Comparison of the genotypes obtained with those European genotypes included in The European Surveillance System (TESSy) showed that 87 cases had become part of 20 European clusters. The continuity of MDR strain genotyping in time has offered a widespread picture of the situation that allows better management of this public health problem. It also shows the advantage of maintaining one genotyping method over time, which allowed the comparison between ancient, present and future samples. En este informe se revisa el proceso editorial de Investigaciones Europeas de Dirección y Economía de la Empresa durante 2009 y se avanzan algunos datos del año 2010. En 2009 se recibieron 92 manuscritos procedentes fundamentalmente de España (95,7%). Consecuentemente, el idioma más utilizado fue el español, seguido del portugués y el inglés. En este año, el tiempo medio entre recepción y publicación ha sido relativamente bajo (296 días) para lo que resulta habitual en la mayoría de publicaciones del área de economía de la empresa. La tasa de rechazo fue del 70,71%, publicándose un total de 34 artículos de investigación originales.

Abstract

2-Hydroxypyridines (or commonly named 2-pyridones) are widespread nitrogen heterocycles in natural and synthetic products and their applications in biological, pharmaceutical and agrochemical compounds are becoming increasingly important. Therefore, several procedures have been described in the literature for the preparation of this heterocyclic framework. Among them, multicomponent reactions are the currently practiced method in synthetic organic chemistry, where reduced reaction times, high yields, and ease of product isolation are the main benefits of this method. In order to study the effect of the aforementioned method under greener medium, we herein describe a novel one-pot route for the design of 4,6-diaryl-3-cyano-2-pyridone derivatives under free solvent conditions. The three-component condensation of alkenes, ketones, and ammonium acetate efficiently resulted in the target heterocycles, with higher yields within a short time reaction compared to the classical method. Abstract

A fluorescence grating sensor based on a pyridine derivative was synthesized. The results showed that it can rapidly identify and detect toxic heavy metal ions, such as Cr2+, Hg2+, Ni2+ and Co2+. When these toxic heavy metal ions were added to the fluorescence array sensor, different fluorescent responses were produced due to the different binding capacities of the metal ion complex. These toxic heavy metal ions present in environmental water were identified using the fluorescence grating sensor. This sensor provides a fast and convenient method for monitoring toxic heavy metal ions in wastewater. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

[Abstract] In a previous paper some of us presented the structure and some properties of a new family of ionic liquids, ILs, with a common cation, 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium (the popular [C4C1Im]⁺ or [BMIM]⁺) and a variety of anions based in thiocyanate (SCN)¯: one reference sample and ten with anionic metal complexes of different valences: Al¹¹¹, Mn¹¹, Fe¹¹, Cr¹¹¹, Ni¹¹, Hg¹¹, Zn¹¹, Co¹¹ and Cu¹, resulting, respectively, [BMIM](SCN), [BMIM]₃ Al(SCN)₆, [BMIM]₄ Mn(SCN)₆, [BMIM]₃ Fe(SCN)₆, [BMIM]₃ Cr(SCN)₆, [BMIM]₄ Ni(SCN)₆, [BMIM]₂ Hg(SCN)₄, [BMIM]₂ Zn(SCN)₄, [BMIM]₂ Co(SCN)₄ and [BMIM]₃ Cu(SCN)₄. In this paper we show experimental measurements of electrical conductivity of these ILs in a broad temperature range (about 90 K). Viscosity has been measured for six compounds in a wide temperature range. In addition, the diffusion coefficient for both ions forming the IL has been measured for some of the samples using NMR-Dosy technique. In spite of being very similar compounds from a chemical point of view, they present very different transport property values. Thus, viscosity varies more than two orders of magnitude among those metal thiocyanate ILs, being the highest for the compound with Al and the lowest for that with Hg. Moreover, differences between ionic conductivity and diffusion coefficient values extend more than one order of magnitude among the thiocyanate ILs. These three properties will be related in pairs, thus through Walden’s rule we compare molar conductivity and fluidity, while using Kohlrausch’s law and Nerst-Einstein equation molar conductivity and diffusion coefficient are related. Also, diffusion coefficient and fluidity (the inverse of viscosity) are compared by means of Stokes-Einstein relationship. In addition, we calculate the Laity interionic friction coefficients for both anions of the IL with Hg. Finally, a theoretical model is suggested to explain all the experimental evidences reported.

The eco-friendly direct solvent-free synthesis of flavones is achieved by microwave irradiation of phloroglucinol and beta-ketoesters. The reaction goes through a cycloaddition of an alpha-oxo ketene intermediate followed by an uncatalyzed thermal Fries rearrangement.

Abstract

The isolation and characterization of chitin (CHI) obtained from Vespa velutina (CHIVV) is described. Moreover, a trapping procedure is presented to selectively catch the invasive species. The chitin contents of dry Vespa velutina was observed to be 11.7 %. The physicochemical properties of CHIVV was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), solid-state NMR (ssNMR), elemental analysis (EA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). Obtained CHIVV is close to pure (43, 47% C, 6.94% H, and 6.85% N) and full acetylated with a value of 95.44%. Also, lifetime and kinetic parameters such as activation E and the frequency factor A using model-free and model-fitting methods, were determined. For CHIVV the solid state mechanism that follows the thermodegradation is of type F2 (Random nucleation around two nuclei). Vespa velutina chitin should not be used at temperatures above 60ºC, since its half-life would be only one year, and from an industrial point of view it would not be profitable. Based on certain factors such as the current and probable continued abundance of Vespa velutina and the quality of the product obtained, the invasive Asian hornet is a promising alternative source of chitin.

48. Activity of ceftolozane/tazobactam against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacterales isolates recovered from intensive care unit patients in Spain: The SUPERIOR multicentre study

Abstract

Patients in intensive care units (ICUs) present a high risk of developing an infection caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria. Consequently, new antimicrobials and combinations are required. In this study, the activity of ceftolozane/tazobactam (C/T) was evaluated against Enterobacterales (n = 400) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (n = 80) clinical isolates collected from patients in Spanish ICUs with complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI) and complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAI). Overall susceptibility to C/T in P. aeruginosa isolates by infection type was 95.7% in cUTI (MIC 50/90, 1/4 mg/L) and 85.3% in cIAI (MIC 50/90, 1/64 mg/L). Activity against P. aeruginosa was maintained regardless of its resistance pattern, confirming that C/T is one of the best antipseudomonal agents along with colistin and amikacin. Susceptibility to C/T in Enterobacterales by infection type was 79.5/81.9% and 89.3/92.3% (EUCAST/CLSI) in cIAI and cUTI isolates, respectively. Activity was excellent against wild-type organisms, with 100% susceptible and inhibited at MIC = 1 mg/L. Nevertheless, C/T susceptibility decreased against extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing isolates: Escherichia coli (80.4/84.8% susceptible by EUCAST/CLSI) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (59.1/77.3% susceptible by EUCAST/CLSI). No activity of C/T was observed in carbapenemase-producing isolates. The in vitro activity of C/T observed in this surveillance study suggests that this agent can be considered as a therapeutic option for cUTI and cIAI due to Enterobacterales and P. aeruginosa in ICU patients, particularly when carbapenemase-producing isolates are not involved.
