AbstractTeacher training in Turkey should be evaluated as one of the fundamental branches of acculturation systematics within the context and as a condition of 174 years of formation and experience in the framework of the organic and deep-rooted structure of both its own and that of the world. In relation to the principal philosophies followed from 1848 to the present, the credit percentage and content of the art courses within the primary, middle and high school curricula have achieved negative momentum in parallel with the percentage and content of the art/design courses in the education system under scrutiny. In line with the descriptive scanning model which evaluates historical information and documents, this study is designed for the purpose of viewing the past and the present together in a natural cause-and-effect relation. The study particularly focuses on pre-school and classroom teaching programs and targets the training of the teacher who focuses on those years in which the child acquires both artistic and cognitive basic education. It has been observed that the art and design content of classroom teaching curricula has changed through either the decrease in class hours or the removal of the said-courses. It is expected that this study will function as a tool in the development of future program designs that will be self-renewing and self-sufficient, in which the role of art/design in education is accepted by all disciplines and in which holistic education holds significance not only in theory but also in the practices and the conceptions of those who are being trained.

Objective:The study was planned with the aim of investigating the opinions and experiences of forensic medicine specialists working under the roof of universities, Forensic Medicine Institute and Ministry of Health in our country on working conditions and professional practices.Methods:This study, which was planned as a questionnaire, was applied to 100 forensic medicine specialists who gave online consent between 15-25 January 2021, coinciding with the Coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic period.Results:The fact that the Ministry of Health group was 53% and the proportion of forensic medicine specialists in the relatively young age group (50 years and younger) was 86% among the groups participating in the survey, made us think that this group may reflect the problems and working conditions more. It has been observed that the Forensic Medicine Institute group workes in better conditions compared to other groups (Ministry of Health and University) in terms of economic and working environment.Conclusion:The results of the study revealed that there is an unplanned workforce in the field of forensic medicine in our country, there are working conditions and economic injustice between institutions and it needs to be corrected urgently. It has been clearly seen that there is uncertainty in the field in terms of being the responsible physician and physician in charge of the Child Monitoring Centers, and that this group of physicians, who have special knowledge and experience in the field of trauma, should be encouraged to this special area related to child abuse.

Introduction:For metastatic prostate cancer (PC), androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is the primary treatment option. Most patients develop resistance, after an initial response to treatment. This study aimed to evaluate real-life data of first-line docetaxel treatment for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and analyzed whether the response time to ADT could predict the response to docetaxel treatment.Methods:The study included 111 patients with mCRPC who were treated with docetaxel. Time to castration resistance (TTCR) was defined as the time from initiation to the failure of primary ADT. Patients were divided into two groups based on TTCR. Patients with TTCR ≤12 months were assigned to group 1, while patients with TTCR >12 months were assigned to group 2.Results:The median overall survival (OS) of the patients in group 1 was 16 months, whereas the median OS in group 2 was 38 months. Child abuse is an important problem seen worldwide. It is critical to identify the abused children to protect the health of the child and to eliminate repetitive abuse where the abuser is a member of the family. A girl was subjected to repetitive physical abuse was detected in the examinations. Although the necessary recommendations were made during the judicial reporting process, physical abuse continued due to the lack of action by the judicial authorities, and finally, sexual abuse was added. By sharing this case, it is emphasized the importance of the physician’s approach to the abuse cases and interdisciplinary cooperation between medicine branches, and the importance of final court decisions and their effective role in the abuse. The importance and necessity of repetitive training and cooperation between medical-law-social institutionsin the management of child abuse has been put forward.

Trichofolliculoma is a rare benign cystic nodule, consisting of a central dilated hair follicle that radiates into the surrounding dermis. Trichofolliculoma presents as a dome-shaped, solitary, 0.5-1.0 cm diameter of papule or nodule with a central pore. The clinical differential diagnosis of trichofolliculoma includes basal cell carcinoma, milia, keratoacanthoma, trichoepithelioma, and syringoma. Histopathological differential diagnosis includes trichoepithelioma, dilated pore of Winer, pilar sheath acanthoma, and basal cell carcinoma. Trichofollicumas usually occur on the face and less frequently on the neck and scalp. The gluteal area is an unprecedented site for trichofolliculoma although some unusual locations were observed. Herein, we report a very rare trichofolliculoma of the gluteal area which was not reported in English literature.

While noticing has received extensive attention from researchers with regards to pre-service and in-service teachers, there has been little research on how pre-service mathematics teachers respond to student thinking in the mathematical discussions. The aim of the study was to investigate pre-service mathematics teachers’ (PSMTs) ways of responding to student thinking and the extent they focused on student thinking while responding to them. Two PSMTs’ planned lessons were observed by the university supervisor and the cooperating teacher. Data was collected through lesson plans, video recordings of the PSMTs’ teaching and the observation notes by the supervisor. The constant comparative method was performed throughout the qualitative data analysis. The results initially revealed that although PSMTs could use different types of actions such as eliciting, repeating, redirecting, teaching and encouraging to respond to student thinking during their teaching experiences, their responding to student ideas did not follow a single path or a pattern for their lessons. In terms of the ways of responding, PSMTs dominantly used eliciting, repeating, and evaluating, while explaining, extending and probing student thinking were less preferred. The results provide important cases to help mathematics teacher educators to understand the PSMTs’ ways of responding to student thinking and their tendencies towards being able to focus on student thinking while responding to them. Finally, the paper discusses the educational implications of the results.

Barbotinia oraniensis (Barbotin, 1964) is here reported for the first time from Turkey. The cynipid wasp has recorded in Mediterranean region, Northern Africa and some European countries. The galls of the species were collected from the seed capsules of Papaver rhoeas L. (Papaveraceae) in April 2022. Photos of the gall, and data on the distribution, and biology of the new record species are provided.

Objective: One of the most frequently used scoring systems routinely to determine whether pneumonia patients need inpatient treatment is the CURB-65 score. Recently, studies conducted with simple, cheap, and rapid blood tests such as hemogram and biochemistry parameters, which every clinician can easily interpret, have gained popularity. This study examined the relationship between blood tests requested in the emergency department (ED) and pneumonia severity and prognosis. Methods: The study examined the files of patients who came to the ED with complaints of fever, cough, phlegm and fatigue between January 1 and December 31, 2017. Pneumonia severity according to thorax tomography and CURB-65 score at admission were evaluated. The patient's vital signs, hemogram, biochemistry and blood gas parameters were examined. It was compared with the ward they were admitted to and their 30-day prognosis. Results: The files of 117 patients were examined. The age of the patients was significantly higher in the group with severe pneumonia than mild and moderate pneumonia groups. In the group with moderate and severe pneumonia, comorbidities were significantly higher than the mild pneumonia group. The rate of intensive care admission and ex in the group with severe pneumonia was significantly higher than in mild and moderate pneumonia groups. In the ex-group, the CURB-65 score, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), C-Reactive Protein (CRP)/Albumin and pneumonia severity were significantly higher than the other group. Conclusion: NLR and CRP/Albumin ratios may be as effective as CURB-65 scoring in predicting 30-day mortality, and ED burden can be reduced with simple blood tests. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Distal electrical stimulation of an upper extremity mixed nerve can generate a reflex response from the trapezius muscle. This reflex response may have a central neural pathway and can be affected by postural changes. Materials and Methods: In this study, long latency reflexes (LLRs) from both distal and trapezius muscle were evaluated in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) with and without postural dysfunction and in patients with cerebellar ataxias. Thirty-three patients with PD, 10 patients with degenerative cerebellar ataxia and 22 healthy volunteers were included in the study. LLRs were recorded from ipsilateral thenar and trapezius muscles. Latencies and amplitudes of LLRs obtained from thenar (thenar LLR) and trapezius (trapezius LLR) muscles were analyzed. Results: In patients with PD, thenar LLRs showed significant shortening in the onset latencies and significant increase in the amplitudes in comparison with healthy controls. Trapezius LLRs did not show any significant difference in latencies or amplitudes; however, these responses showed a significant absence in one or two components in patients with Parkinson's disease with postural dysfunction. Additionally, this reflex was not recorded in patients with cerebellar ataxia. Conclusion: Trapezius LLRs can give some information regarding the physiology of neural circuits responsible for postural arrangement. Cerebellar connections may have a major role in the generation of trapezius LLRs.
