As no effective treatment or vaccine have yet been developed, the only way to prevent the spread of SARS-Cov-2 is to introduce social distancing measures. Scientific discussion regarding their actual effectiveness and socio-economic consequences has only just begun. Both declining mobility and changes in mobility patterns are obvious effects of social distancing. The main objective of this article is to present spatial diversity of changes in regional and local mobility in Poland with the use of data gathered and provided by Google LCC. As for the regional dimension, the mobility has declined steadily in most of the analysed areas. The regional changes were more visible only in the case of the following categories of areas: grocery & pharmacy and parks. The initial correlation analysis has shown that distribution of those changes more or less reflects spatial voting patterns. Both historical and cultural factors may explain such results, including ingrained habits, collective attitudes towards politics and group values. In the local context, illustrated by the analysis of changes in travel time from housing areas in Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot to the business and science centre in Gdańsk-Oliwa, a noticeable yet spatially diversified decrease in drive time (by private car) has been observed. The most significant reduction in travel time was recorded in peripheral areas accessible by high-speed roads which are normally jammed during peak hours. The mobility constraints have led to highly reduced traffic congestion, and consequently, shortened the travel time.

Conditions and perspectives for the development of intra-city passenger shipping in Gdańsk Emission of pollutants to the environment from transport is one of the key drivers of climate change. European countries, including Poland, are trying to change their own transport policy, so that in various modes of transport a greater role is played by means partially or completely powered by electricity. Gdańsk, as a city with a coastal location and having access to a network of canals and rivers, plans to develop intra-city water tramway lines. It is planned to use modern electric or hybrid passenger ships for this purpose. The article presents the main conditions for the functioning of the existing connections inside Gdańsk. The socio-economic background and the connection of waterways with the transport network of Gdańsk were characterized. The assumptions of the new network of ferry connections were presented and their impact on the environment was analyzed. The last part of the article characterizes the potential financial, socio-economic and environmental impacts.

Analysis of the specificity and kinetics of neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) elicited by SARS-CoV-2 infection is crucial for understanding immune protection and identifying targets for vaccine design. In a cohort of 647 SARS-CoV-2-infected subjects, we found that both the magnitude of Ab responses to SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) and nucleoprotein and nAb titers correlate with clinical scores. The receptor-binding domain (RBD) is immunodominant and the target of 90% of the neutralizing activity present in SARS-CoV-2 immune sera. Whereas overall RBD-specific serum IgG titers waned with a half-life of 49 days, nAb titers and avidity increased over time for some individuals, consistent with affinity maturation. We structurally defined an RBD antigenic map and serologically quantified serum Abs specific for distinct RBD epitopes leading to the identification of two major receptor-binding motif antigenic sites. Our results explain the immunodominance of the receptor-binding motif and will guide the design of COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics.

Solid cancer patients are at higher risk of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection and severe complications. Moreover, vaccine‐induced antibody response is impaired in patients on anticancer treatment. In this retrospective, observational, hypothesis‐generating, cohort study, we assessed the antibody response to the third dose of mRNA vaccine in a convenience sample of patients on anticancer treatment, comparing it to that of the primary two‐dose cycle. Among 99 patients included, 62.6% were ≥60 years old, 32.3% males, 67.7% with advanced disease. Exactly 40.4% were receiving biological therapy, 16.2% chemotherapy only and 7.1% both treatments. After the third dose, seroconversion rate seems to increase significantly, especially in non‐responders to two doses. Heterologous vaccine‐type regimen (two‐dose mRNA‐1273 and subsequent tozinameran or vice versa) results in higher antibody levels. This explorative study suggests that repeated doses of mRNA‐vaccines could be associated with a better antibody response in this population. Furthermore, heterologous vaccine‐type three‐dose vaccination seems more effective in this population. Seaports operate on a highly competitive global transport market. To retain its competitive position a port (terminal) must strengthen its competitive advantages in all fields of activity. Ports are to expand and modernize their infrastructure and superstructure, and develop links with the hinterland and the foreland. The article describes how the port of Gdynia manages to meet these challenges. The author analyses the period 2007—2015. Special attention is paid to the port development plan for 2020. The EU Structural Funds has provided a good opportunity to strengthen the competitive position of the port by making investments in the port infrastructure and superstructure. It allowed the port to strengthen its links with the hinterland. The author uses a set of fundamental, analytical and technical research methods to analyse materials provided by the port authority and the port terminal operators. By the end of 2015, the port authority had completed five investment projects, including the modernization of th ree wharfs and a rail terminal, the development of the port infrastructure aimed to provide services to ro-ro ships. Strategically important projects for the coming years include dredging and widening of the port channel, fairways and the internal basin. Cooperation between the port and the city authorities allowed the port administration to improve road access to the port of Gdynia. The key investment project aims to link the port of Gdynia to the TriCity ring road. Apart from it, there are plans to improve access to the railroad network. Railway line 201 to Bydgoszcz is to be modernised to transport cargoes from Gdynia further inland. The current and future strategic investments create conditions for growth in handling both container and other types of cargo in the port of Gdynia and significantly improve competitiveness of the maritime sector.

Previous studies on the immunogenicity of SARS‐CoV‐2 mRNA vaccines showed a reduced seroconversion in cancer patients. The aim of our study is to evaluate the immunogenicity of two doses of mRNA vaccines in solid cancer patients with or without a previous exposure to the virus. This is a single‐institution, prospective, nonrandomized study. Patients in active treatment and a control cohort of healthy people received two doses of BNT162b2 (Comirnaty, BioNTech/Pfizer, The United States) or mRNA‐1273 (Spikevax, Moderna). Vaccine was administered before starting anticancer therapy or on the first day of the treatment cycle. SARS‐CoV‐2 antibody levels against S1, RBD (to evaluate vaccine response) and N proteins (to evaluate previous infection) were measured in plasma before the first dose and 30 days after the second one. From January to June 2021, 195 consecutive cancer patients and 20 healthy controls were enrolled. Thirty‐one cancer patients had a previous exposure to SARS‐CoV‐2. Cancer patients previously exposed to the virus had significantly higher median levels of anti‐S1 and anti‐RBD IgG, compared to healthy controls (P =.0349) and to cancer patients without a previous infection (P <.001). Vaccine type (anti‐S1: P <.0001; anti‐RBD: P =.0045), comorbidities (anti‐S1: P =.0274; anti‐RBD: P =.0048) and the use of G‐CSF (anti‐S1: P =.0151) negatively affected the antibody response. Conversely, previous exposure to SARS‐CoV‐2 significantly enhanced the response to vaccination (anti‐S1: P <.0001; anti‐RBD: P =.0026). Vaccine immunogenicity in cancer patients with a previous exposure to SARS‐CoV‐2 seems comparable to that of healthy subjects. Development of railway transport systems is perceived as one of the most effective ways of shaping sustainable urban transportation. However, railway transportation systems can only compete with individual means of transportation when having properly developed infrastructure, especially in terms of the train stops accessibility. The main objective of this article is to discuss mutual relations between operation of a newly built railway line and spatial changes taking place in its closest vicinity which determine the accessibility to it. The research methods included the GIS tools, direct measurements of passenger exchange, and public opinion poll among the passengers taking the new line. The research area was the city of Gdansk, one of the largest cities in Poland, where transportation problems are cumulating as a result of the urban sprawl. The new railway was opened in order to mitigate these problems. The research results have proved this strategy was only partially successful as the course of the line and location of the stops do not provide a large number of potential passengers. That is why it was necessary to connect the line to the already existing urban transportation system, yet this solution has not resolved the problem completely. However, the urban development plan assumes introduction of large housing projects in the areas surrounding the existing train stops what will allow using the new line more efficiently in the future., 1. The objective of the study was to characterize better the immunologic mechanisms underlying a previously developed animal model of chemical-induced asthma. BALB/c and severe combined immunodeficiency disease (SCID) mice received toluene diisocyanate (TDI) or vehicle on each ear on day 1 and/or day 7. On day 10, they were intranasally challenged with TDI or vehicle. Ventilatory function was monitored by whole body plethysmography for 40 min after challenge. Reactivity to methacholine was measured 23 h later: enhanced pause and actual resistance measurements. Pulmonary inflammation was assessed 1, 6, and 24 h after challenge by bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL). Tumor necrosis factor-[alpha] and macrophage inflammatory protein (MIP)-2 levels were measured in BAL. Immunological parameters included total IgE, IgG1, and IgG2a in serum, lymphocyte populations in auricular and cervical lymph nodes, and IL-4 and IFN-[gamma] levels in supernatants of lymph node cells, cultured with or without concanavalin A. Ventilatory changes suggestive of airway obstruction and increased methacholine reactivity were observed in all TDI-sensitized and TDI intranasally instilled mice, except in SCID mice. A neutrophil influx, accompanied by an increase in MIP-2 levels, was found in BAL of all responding groups 6 and 24 h after intranasal challenge. In BALB/c mice an increased level of CD 19 + B cells was found in the auricular lymph nodes. IL-4 and IFN-[gamma] levels were increased in supernatants of concanavalin A-stimulated auricular lymph node cells from BALB/c mice completely treated with TDI.
