The study aims at examining the concept of “happiness” and its manifestations in Japanese and English. At the same time, there is no task to highlight specific features of the conceptual sphere in Great Britain, the USA and Australia. The main emphasis is placed on the comparative aspect, which also conditioned the use of the comparative method in the article. When describing the semantic field of the “happiness” concept in the Japanese culture, it is important to consider the influence of hieroglyphs borrowed from China, values and ideas about the organization of social life, the role of traditional beliefs, everyday magic and kotodama (the soul of language). Finally, it is worth mentioning the broad synonymous content of the “happiness” conceptual field in the dictionary “Ruigo reikai jiten”. It combines the native Japanese 幸せ shiawase “happiness” and 幸い saiwai with the Sinicisms containing the hieroglyphs 福 fuku and 幸運 ko:un “luck”. At the same time, 運 un “fate, luck” is among the following synonyms: 天命 tenmei (“destined by the sky”), 命運 meiun and others, representing the concept of “fate”. In the course of the study, the authors have emphasized the influence of ethical ideas contained in the axiologeme do:toku 道徳 and the desire for harmony on the Japanese culture. In the English-speaking cultures, this ethical component becomes secondary in comparison with materially expressed success and luck, the principle of preserving one’s own freedom and independence. However, the impact of time (globalization, Internet communication, the dominance of English) gradually led not only to the emergence of Anglicisms in the Japanese culture but also to a change in the content of significant concepts, in particular the concept of “happiness”.

The rise in the antibiotic resistance of bacteria has increased scientific interest in the study of materials with unique mechanisms of antimicrobial action. This paper presents the results of studies on the antimicrobial activity of carbon materials and textiles decorated with them. A comparative analysis of the bactericidal and fungicidal activities of graphene oxide, electrochemically exfoliated multigraphene, carbon dots, and their combinations was performed. Microbiological studies on reference strains of E. coli , S. aureus , and C. albicans showed that graphene oxide inhibited growth with up to 98% efficiency. Electrochemically exfoliated multigraphene was less effective (up to 40%). This study found no significant antimicrobial activity of carbon dots and the combination of carbon dots with graphene oxide significantly weakened their effectiveness. However, the combination of electrochemically exfoliated multigraphene and carbon dots exhibits a synergistic effect (up to 76%). A study on the antimicrobial activity of decorated cotton textiles demonstrated the effectiveness of antimicrobial textiles with graphene oxide, electrochemically exfoliated multigraphene, and a combination of carbon dots with electrochemically exfoliated multigraphene.

Introduction: The development of gingivitis among children remains actual problem in modern dentistry due to high prevalence, disorders of dental-alveolar functions and development of parodontium diseases at the older age. The microorganisms occupying dental chamfer play the leading role in parodontium tissues damage., Aim: Research of microbial spectrum of dental chamfer and assessment of etiology significances of the revealed microorganisms in gingivitis among children of school age., Materials and Methods: Bacteriological research of dental chamfer in 30 children of secondary school age with gingivitis of slight and severe level. Inoculations have been done on the chocolate agar incubated in air-locked containers with gas generators for anaerobic atmosphere "GENbag Anaer" and inoculations on bloody gemagar--with gas generators for microaerophiles "GENbag Microaer" (bioMerieux) within 24-48 hours. Infections were precipitated out on the Saburo medium. Identification of discharged cultures was carried out on the microbialogic evaluator "Vitek II Compact" (bioMerieux)., Results: Microflora of dental chamfer in the examined children has been presented by three groups of microorganisms: gram-positive cocci (63.3%), gram-negative nonfermentative bacteriums (63.3%) and yeast Candida fungus (30%). Among gram-postitive cocci representatives of normal microflora of oral cavity Streptococcus oralis (26.6%) were dominated. Neisseria (N. sicca, cinerea et animaloris) were dominated most often in the group of gram-negative nonfermentative bacteriums (23.3% of children), yeast Candida fungus have been presented by two kinds--C. dubliensis (at 20% of children) and C. albicans (at 10%). The mean content of all discharged microorganisms has compounded 5,7 Ig KOE that supposes their etiology role in development of marginal gum inflammation., Conclusions: Received results showed us some mechanisms of development of inflammatory diseases of parodontium tissues which will allow us to develop new approaches of treatment and gingivitis prevention among children of school age.

One of the mechanisms underlying cardiac disease caused by stress is disorder of lipid metabolism, resulting from excessive increase of adaptive lipotropic effect of stress reaction.

Contemporary forms of occupational diseases are often characterized by many body systems involved, with response of specific and nonspecific effects. Due to observed transformation in character and course of the main occupational entities, specifying the new clinical classifications, new "List of Occupational Diseases" adapted to ICD-10, by specialists remains topical.

Human individual sensitivity to health-hazardous occupational factors and probability of developing chronic lung diseases depend on genetic variation of serum and erythrocytic proteins. The present work was aimed at studying the phenotypes of serum and erythrocytic proteins in patients with occupational respiratory diseases. We studied 7 highly polymorphic genetic systems the varieties of which may be connected with development of bronchopulmonary pathology (BPP) and the immune status of the body: proteinase inhibitor (Pi), third component of the complement (C3), transferrin (Tf), group-specific component of blood serum (Gc), haptoglobin (Hp), erythrocytic glyoxalase (Glo) and phosphoglucomutase (PGM) in patients with chronic bronchitis, silicosis, occupational bronchial asthma and in the control group consisting of Moscow population not exposed to occupational hazards and apparently healthy workers of an engineering plant. Considerable differences were revealed in genetic structure of the patients with bronchopulmonary pathology as compared with the apparently healthy people along a series of Integrated system: proteinase inhibitor (Pi), C3, Tf, Gc, PGM. Comparison of the study groups by significant differences in the aggregate of the genetic information obtained suggests that 5 (HP, C3, Tf, Pl, PGM1) of the 7 studied systems showed the hereditary features of silicosis. The gene carriers Hp*2, C3*F, PGM1*2-, TF*D, GC*R due to peculiar biochemical processes appear to have less adaptive potentialities and a greater likelihood of the disease on exposure to industrial factors. The examined patients with chronic bronchitis showed an increase in the variant of GC*2 and of a rare variants of proteins GC*R and Pi*S, the patients with occupational bronchial asthma showed an increase in the variant of Hp*2 and of a rare variant Pi*S. Such studies could be useful for assessment and forecast of individual risk of occupational diseases.

Some features were revealed after study of 185 patients with various occupational diseases: chronic lead intoxication, bronchial asthma, and disorders caused by fluor. Considering polyetiology and nonspecificity of gastric diseases, the authors could not determine the changes revealed as caused only by occupational exposure.

Examination of 400 workers in Bratsk aluminium plant proved respiratory diseases formation to be influenced by both occupational factors and various toxic chemicals that are released into atmosphere by other industrial polluters. Structure of respiratory diseases is represented mainly by diffuse pneumoconiosis caused by toxic and dust factors. Prophylaxis of those diseases should be aimed not only to better work conditions, but also to specify measures improving regional ecologic situation.

Complex descriptive, physiologic and hygienic studies covered various occupational groups of physical and mental work and revealed that health disorders probability depends on intensity of occupational factors. Increase in the intensity results in higher physiologic expenditure and greater incidence of occupational diseases. Symptoms of disorders appeared to depend on specificity of occupational factors.

The study covered influence of occupational factors on health state in 2 groups of workers engaged into facing (59 plasterers and 74 house painters) and matched in age, sex and length of service. Work of plasterers and house painters appeared to encounter risk of occupational sensomotor system disorders specified not only by type and hardness, but also prevalent direction of local muscular load.

The authors studied value of laboratory CNS tests in early diagnosis of chronic exposure to organic solvents. The tests include quantitative and qualitative evaluation of personal profile, higher psychic functions and bioelectric activity of brain. Findings are objective parameters of early CNS response to solvents--EEG signs characteristic for hypothalamic irritation, moderate diffuse increase in MMPI personal profile with secondary neurotic type and marked disorder of attention that is considerably influenced by nonspecific activating system of brain.

Biochemical reactions demonstrate not only common principles and characteristics, but also individual features that form "biochemical profile" providing both adaptive adjustability and unique responses in various individuals. Putting the advances of clinical biochemistry and molecular biology into practice expands approaches to study of occupational diseases.

Predominant orientation of local muscular load to proximal or distal portions of shoulders and upper limbs considerably influences features of changes in brain functions and blood supply. Characteristic for plasterers, localization of myogeloses in upper part of trapezium muscles causes not only impaired vertebrobasillar circulation, but also venous cerebral stasis and caudal medullar dysfunction. Clinical symptoms are vestibular disorders, depressed functions of hearing, chronic venous cerebral congestion, posture-tonic disorders. Local loads on distal portions of limbs have other mechanisms of cerebral and peripheral disorders.

In organization-normative period of Russian occupational pathology service establishing expediently to foresee some different levels for territorial occupational pathology institutions with corresponding differentiation for three category. The appointing a category to the occupational pathology centre must be in competence of accreditive-licencive commission, which follows "On system of medical practice licencing in the part concerning occupational pathology".

The article covers literary data and observations concerning influence of occupational factors and working environment on workers' reproductive health. The authors stress common ground of pathogenetic mechanisms underlying pathomorphosis of reproductive disorders and other symptoms caused by occupational exposure. The materials emphasize importance of reproductivity studies in workers exposed to occupational hazards, as reproductive disorders are early and gentle signs of inner imbalance.

Electrophoresis and isoelectrofocusing were used to study polymorphism by 7 genetic loci: haptoglobin (Hp), proteinase inhibitor (PI), transferrin (TF), Vitamin D-transporting protein (GC), complement 3 (C3), phosphoglucomutase 1 (PGM1) and glyoxalase (GLO1) in 60 patients with silicosis and in 70 apparently healthy workers of the Dynamo plant. Use of biologic monitoring for workers exposed to lead is the most efficient means preventing lead intoxication all over the world. Considering WHO recommendations and personal research, the authors specified national system of biologic monitoring for workers exposed to lead. The system covers mandatory control of serum and urinary lead levels. The authors based biologic MAC for lead in serum-50 mg/dl (males) and 30 mg/dl (females).

Human sensitivity to various factors of occupational environment (toxic chemicals, aerosols with mostly fibrogenic effects, etc.) depends on individual hereditary features determining adaptation or dysadaptation with subsequent disease. Studies of propensity and resistance in individuals exposed to occupational hazards should cover analysis of genetic basis for polymorphism in certain biochemical systems determining relationships between hazards detoxication and activation, DNA alteration and repair.

Formed 75 years ago, occupational pathology has defined structure of occupational morbidity, determined principles of occupational diseases' pathogenesis and pathomorphosis, demonstrated dependence of occupational entities on acting occupational hazards, described clinical manifestations of occupational diseases, emphasized informative diagnostic complexes. Diagnosis in occupational pathology now is established on basis of etiology. Manifold activities helped to form a system preventing health disorders caused by occupational hazards. Topical problem is to elaborate and put into practice some criteria for compensation of occupational damage with differential expert assessment of functional disorders caused either by occupational disease or by general one. Prospective trend could be to create a system organizing and managing workers' health on workplace and to put "protection by time" principle into practice with forecasting risk of occupational diseases and dose-effect dependence. Another prospect is to elaborate and put into practice a training in social and psychologic adaptation for occupational managers and industrial workers.

Clinical and physiologic studies covered 26 occupational groups engaged into physical work and revealed that physiologic value of muscular work is a function of quantitative parameters, intensity and duration of work. Physiologic value of the work appeared to correlate with morbidity structure.

Retrospective and prospective epidemiologic studies revealed features of pathomorphosis and response, defined various pathogenetic mechanisms induced by complex, combined exposure to poisons at work. The article determined main neurologic and hematologic syndromes considered as early and sensitive diagnostic criteria of poisons influence on workers exposed to them. The authors described some variants of course and long-term complications of prolonged exposure to poisons.

Physiologic and clinical examination of mental workers (19 occupational groups) helped to justify and calculate integral parameter evaluating the work intensity, to determine 6 categories of work intensity. Physiologic and clinical data prove that higher integral parameter of work intensity (category of work intensity) correlates with higher degree of strain at work and higher share of the diseased individuals. The results help to improve classification of hygienic criteria for evaluation of work conditions, in particular the work intensity.

Extensive data covering 2086 examinees served for analysis of peripheral vascular, locomotion, neurologic disorders developing at various stages of adaptation process in workers engaged into mining in the North. Unfavorable general and local cooling resulted in overstrain of thermoregulation mechanisms, caused lower performance, difficulties in adequate occupational functioning, early formation of diseases. Association of cooling and intensive vibration with significant physical load induced neurovascular and neurodystrophic changes being a result of both local microcirculation disturbances and disordered regulation of peripheral vascular tone, higher excitability of vasoconstrictors stimulated by central mechanisms.

Complex clinical and physiologic examination covered operators facing changeable psychoemotional strain at work. The degree of psychoemotional strain appeared to have strong correlation with the diagnosed neurosis rate. The examination revealed main clinical syndrome in the neuroses and proved a distinct trend that prolonged forms of the condition were prevalent in the groups engaged into more emotionally burdensome work. The data obtained require further investigation to elaborate optimum measures for prophylaxis and treatment of the diseases diagnosed.

Loader machine operators in Volzhskiĭ Automobile Works, who suffer from cervical osteochondrosis, were subjected to X-ray screening with special applied methods. The screening revealed various compensatory and dystrophic changes involving locomotion apparatus of hands and cervical part of spine. The studied occupational factors proved to enhance the locomotion disorders in the examinees.

Complete clinical and physiologic examination of 415 tunnelers exposed to intensive vibration in cooling microclimate proved that extreme functioning of thermoregulation results in shorter development, quicker progression of vibration disease and abortive types of the disease. The data obtained were helpful to base treatments and prophylaxis including special clothes, appropriate therapy.

The article presents possible neural disorders caused by occupational hazards and shows mechanisms underlying those disorders. The authors define topical problems of basic science related to occupational neurology, which require further studies with neurochemical, immunologic, neurophysiologic methods and comparison.

Clinical and hygienic studies covered agricultural machine operators, bulldozer operators, truck drivers, excavator and boring machine operators, display terminal controllers, electronic miniature device assemblers. The studies proved that occupational hazards (general vibration, sitting posture) result in formation of vertebral neurologic disorders in the examinees. The localization and clinical manifestations appeared to depend on intensity and site of the acting hazard.

The article compares the present domestic and foreign patterns of vibration disorders probability forecasting, uncovers the main causes of their difference and deals with the quest of a pattern, which is the most adequate to available empirical data. Extensive epidemiologic data on vibration morbidity helped to create a new forecasting pattern. The established dependence is expressed by an equation, a table and a plot, which enable to evaluate vibration disease risk under exposure to vibration of different levels and duration and to elucidate the safe length of service. The level of vibration was proved to reduce the latent period of vibration disease in accordance with range of exposure, probability intervals and length of service, prophylactic measures and insurance therefore should be differentiated for everyone exposed to vibration.

The authors emphasize the significance of psychological studies in patients with occupational diseases. Foreign and home investigations of the problem are reported. The programme and prospects for the introduction of the methods into practical medicine are presented.

Biochemical studies of opiate system in patients with occupational diseases showed the role of the central pain regulating system inducing the pain syndrome in autonomic and sensory polyneuropathy caused by occupational factors. Increased production of the pain-reducing endogenic neuropeptides such as endorphin and leucine enkephalin was found one of the He-Ne laser acting principles which restore the pain adaptation in human. A repeated course of laser therapy would normalize the content of both neuropeptides. Blood levels of neuropeptides may serve for evaluating the pain syndrome and estimating of laser therapy effects.

Physiological and clinical on-the-spot studies were performed of the labour conditions in 3 groups of female sewing-machine operators (respectively, engaged in making women's dresses, men's suits and men's coats). The analysis performed revealed different degrees of physical load and fatigue in the operators depending on the occupational peculiarities. Specific features of the peripheral nervous system and locomotor system disorders were studied in details, along with the causal relationships underlying the degree of physical load and fatiguability, overstrain development and cumulation. The results of the study were used as a basis for setting Health-Related regulations for sewing-machine operators.

The article presents data on the treatment of dust induced diseases of the lungs, occupational bronchial pathology, lead poisoning, allergic skin diseases, occupational hypoacusis and occupational NS disorders. The treatment techniques included relatively new therapies of which non-medicinal techniques were preferred, such as needle therapy, entherosorption, phytotherapy, manual therapy, vacuum massage, etc.

The clinico-functional examination of agricultural machine-operators, truck drivers, excavator and boring machine operators revealed that, under low-frequency general vibration, polymorphic pathologic changes occur in human organism. Those include peripheral vascular and neuritic disorders and changes in the vertebral column. The most peculiar symptoms of VD are dealt with. The data obtained show to the importance of further elaboration of differential diagnostic criteria of VD, specifying its pathogenic mechanisms and prevention measures working out.

The nervous system was involved in 7.9% (55 patients) of all cases of drug disease observed by the authors. A variety of syndromes occurred reflecting both functional and organic disorders of the nervous system with an underlying toxico-allergic genesis. The cellular immunological tests made it possible to establish that the most frequent causes of drug disease were tetracycline, streptomycin, penicillin, as well as sulfadimesine and vitamin B1.

The paper is concerned with the results of many year-old clinical studies on workers of vibration-risk and "noisy" professions. The authors consider occupational and biomedical risk factors contributing to the development of vibratory disorders and noisy cochlear neuritis, the main clinical syndromes of this occupational pathology, modern methods of their preclinical and early clinical diagnosis. The basic principles of differentiated follow-up and combined prevention as well as problems of therapy, medical labor examination and rehabilitation of patients with vibratory disease and occupational cochlear neuritis are described.
