However, their properties need to be adapted to the extreme operation conditions (such as high T and pH) commonly used by these industries. Here, we summarize the main results obtained during the WoodZymes European Project (www.woodzymes.eu), which aimed to provide tailor-made extremozymes and extremozyme-based processes never assayed before in wood biorefineries. Novel extremophilic enzymes active on kraft lignin (laccases) and xylan (xylanases) were developed and produced at pilot or industrial scales. The enzymatic fractionation of kraft lignins using the METNINTM lignin refining technology, and the extremozyme-aided delignification and bleaching of kraft pulps were demonstrated at pilot scale. The resulting lignin and hemicellulose derived compounds were chemically characterized and applied as components of phenol-(lignin)-formaldehyde resins for wood panels and of polyurethane foams, or as papermaking additives. The new extremozymes were also applied to improve some of the latter applications. The techno-economic and environmental assessment of the new materials and processes, developed in WoodZymes project, showed that extremozyme-based processes led to clear benefits in energy savings during the refining of pulp or wood fibres, enabled lower addition of harsh chemicals (e.g. ClO2 during pulp bleaching), and resulted in a lower carbon footprint of the new bio-based products by substitution of fossil-derived components., WoodZymes project was funded by the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) under GA 792070. The invention concerns a composition in the form of a Pickering emulsion comprising at least one dispersed phase dispersed in at least one continuous phase, and emulsifying particles capable of stabilising the emulsion, the composition being characterised in that the particles are particles of wood. The invention also relates to the use of particles of wood for stabilising a Pickering emulsion or multiple emulsion.

National @ BIOVERT+CCB:PFO:LDJ; International audience; La lignine est le bio-polymčre le plus abondant derričre la cellulose et représente 30% du carbone organique que l’on trouve dans la biosphčre [1]. Ceci fait d’elle une trčs bonne candidate pour le remplacement des ressources pétroličres. Ce polymčre est composé d’un enchaînement aléatoire de trois monomčres composés de polyphénol ŕ base de phenylpropane. Elle est essentiellement produite par le procédé Kraft (production de pâte ŕ papier). Actuellement, on utilise la lignine comme source d’énergie pour ce męme procédé en la faisant brűler [2]. Néanmoins, on peut imaginer d’autres voies de valorisation. En effet, elle est composée de noyaux aromatiques qui pourraient nous permettre d’accéder ŕ des molécules plateformes pour l’industrie comme la vanilline. Plusieurs voies de dépolymérisation de la lignine ont été explorées. Lors de cette étude, nous avons choisi de la valoriser par oxydation catalytique. Cette voie offre la possibilité d’obtenir des molécules fonctionnalisées, sous forme de monomčre ou d’oligomčre, pour ętre utilisées comme matičre premičre dans différents procédés. Pour cela, nous avons travaillé avec une lignine (fournie par le FCBA) issue du procédé Kraft. Les expériences ont été réalisées dans un réacteur batch de 300mL équipé d’une réserve de gaz pour maintenir une pression constante de 40bar d’air. Les réactions ont été exécutées ŕ des températures comprises entre 50°C et 150°C. Dans l’autoclave, on introduit une solution de lignine ŕ 5g/L préalablement solubilisée dans l’eau et des catalyseurs de type Pt/Al2O3 et Au/TiO2. Les bilans de matičre sont évalués en comparant le TOC avant et aprčs réaction. Le milieu réactionnel est filtré pour récupérer le catalyseur. Ensuite, on acidifie le filtrat avec du H2SO4 pour précipiter les gros fragments de lignine. Le mélange est alors séparé par centrifugation. Les produits de réactions sont ensuite analysés et caractérisés grâce ŕ une GC-MS et une LC-MS. La dépolymérisation de la lignine par différents catalyseurs, nous montre des taux de conversion allant de 55% ŕ 72% aprčs 5h de réaction selon les catalyseurs utilisés (Figure 1). Le pH du mélange réactionnel a été contrôlé au début et ŕ la fin du test. Nous avons pu observer une baisse importante de celui-ci. En effet, on passe d’un pH égal ŕ 11 et ŕ pH de 4,45 (Figure 1). Cette acidification peut s’expliquer par la formation d’acides. De plus, nous avons observé la formation de plusieurs molécules d’intéręts: la vanilline, l’acide vanillique et la g-butyrolactone. Ce dernier est important car il pourrait signifier que l’oxydation de la lignine touche autant les chaînes aliphatiques que les noyaux aromatiques. [1] W. Boerjan, J. Ralph, M. Baucher, Annu. Rev.
