The bigeye thresher shark Alopias supeciliosus is a large epipelagic and mesopelagic species, and it has a wide distribution in the Atlantic. However, its record in the Gulf of Mexico is sporadic. A single adult female of A. superciliosus, measuring 360 cm total length and about weight 165 kg, was caught by artisanal fishers in Salinas Roca Partida, Veracruz, Mexico, on July 14, 2020. This study reports the first occurrence of this species in the southwestern of the Gulf of Mexico, which extends its geographical distribution in Mexico.

Background. The Zoque rainforest Chimalapas is located in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, mainly in the municipalities of San Miguel Chimalapa and Santa Maria Chimalapa in the state of Oaxaca, is considered one of the latest well-preserved regions in Mexico, as well as a center of diversity and endemism of flora and fauna. Objective. Develop inventories of the ichthyofauna from Santa Maria Chimalapa rainforest to catalog resources before imminent environmental and human alterations. Methods. Samples were collected using several types of fishing gears in the main rivers and tributaries of the water system. Results. A total of 2,430 fish were collected, corresponding to 38 species, grouped in 31 genera, 19 families, and 12 orders. The families with the greatest species richness were Cichlidae and Poeciliidae with nine and six. Priapella intermedia was the most abundant (30.1% total), followed by Astyanax finitimus (13.3%) and Pseudoxiohophorus bimaculatus (10.3%). Regarding biogeographical aspects of the fish community, a prevalence of neotropical species (91.9%) was observed, two species of Nearctic origin (Ictalurus meridionalis and Ictiobus meridionalis) and four vicarious species (Atherinella sallei, Cathorops cf. kailolae, Eugerres mexicanus, Strongylura hubbsi). 31 species are being evaluated in some risk categories and two are exotic. Conclusions. The ichthyofauna of Santa Maria Chimalapa holds similarities to that of the aquatic bodies present in rainforests of southern Mexico. However, ecological, conservation and anthropogenic impact studies are necessary to establish sustainable conservation strategies.

La especie es diagnosticada por un conjunto de caracteres: radios de la aleta dorsal XVI, 8 - 9; radios de la aleta anal VII, 6 - 7; radios de la aleta pectoral, I, 11 - 12; branquiespinas totales en el primer arco branquial 11 - 12; mancha del subopérculo presente pero débilmente intensificada, en especial presenta un marcado dimorfismo sexual único y que le distingue del resto de sus congéneres: en la hembra se presenta una mancha negra entre la quinta y sexta espina dorsal Thorichthys panchovillai, new species, is described, from distinctive of the tributaries of the River Coatzacoalcos basin, Mexico. The new species is diagnosed by a set of characters: dorsal fin rays XVI, 8 - 9; anal fin rays VII, 6 - 7; pectoral fin rays, I, 11 - 12; total gill-rakers on the first branchial cleft 11 - 12; subopercular stain present although weakly intensified, it exposes a notable sexual dimorphism that distinguishes it from others: the female possess a black blotch between the fifth and sixth dorsal spine

"Se describe una nueva especie de cíclido centroamericano, Vieja coatlicue sp. nov., de la cuenca del Río Coatzacoalcos (Oaxaca-Veracruz), Istmo de Tehuantepec, México. Es fácilmente distinguible de su congénere más cercano y con la que fue confundida, V. zonata, por presentar las siguientes características: cuerpo alargado, origen de la aleta dorsal posterior al borde opercular, separación entre el ápice de las aletas pélvicas y el ano. Se caracteriza por presentar un fórmula radial dorsal, generalmente XVII a XVIII, 10 a 12; fórmula radial anal VI, 7 a 9; fórmula radial pectoral, I, 14 o 15; branquiespinas totales en el primer arco branquial 8-11; vértebras totales 30-31. A new species of Central American cichlid is described, Vieja coatlicue sp. nov., from the Coatzacoalcos river basin (Oaxaca-Veracruz), Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Mexico. The species is easily distinguishable from its closest congener (V. zonata) with whom it was mistaken, for displaying the following characteristics: elongated body, posterior dorsal fin origin to the opercular rim, separation between the apex of the pelvic fins and the anus. A set characters that typify the species: spines and dorsal rays, generally XVII to XVIII, 10 to 12; anal fin VI, 7 to 9; pectoral fin, I,14 or 15; total gill rakers in the first branchial cleft 8-11; total vertebrae 30-31."
