Batu City has positioned itself as a center for organic agriculture based on international tourism, and, consistent with its vision in the Batu City Regional Spatial Plan for 2010-2030, the city will become a City of Tourism and Agropolitanism in East Java. From 2015 to 2020, Batu City increasingly developed, especially its tourism sector. The increased number of Batu City tourism sites indirectly illustrated changes in land use. The availability of relatively fixed land is not directly proportional to the high demand for land use and the decreasing vegetation cover. This has led to changes in land use and temperature. This research on temperature changes due to land conversion was carried out in Batu City, East Java. The research design employed Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS image processing using land surface temperature, the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), and the normalized difference built-up index (NDBI). The results showed a relationship between land conversion and temperature changes in Batu City, where there was a change in the land surface temperature interval in 2015-2020. Temperature changes were caused by conversion of forest into agricultural land and built-up land. Vegetated land areas were also converted, so land with dense and moderately dense vegetation decreased. The dense vegetation decreased from 3,757 hectares to 3,437 hectares, while the moderately dense vegetation decreased from 7,867 hectares to 7,531 hectares. Due to its increased population, the Klojen District has become the center of government and economy in Malang City. Overpopulation has caused an increase in land conversion and a decrease in vegetation area, resulting in the Urban Heat Island effect or increased land surface temperature (LST) in urban areas. This study aimed to determine the effect of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) on LST in the Klojen District. The data were processed by interpreting Landsat 8 satellite imagery using NDVI and LST analyses in 2018 and 2020, and the two variables were tested for linear regression. The regression test results showed that the NDVI and LST in 2018 and 2020 had a negative correlation. The data indicated that as vegetation density increased, the LST decreased, and vice-versa. According to the NDVI-LST coefficient of determination value, the correlation in 2020 was higher than in 2018, indicating that the NDVI-LST correlation became stronger every year with a coefficient of determination value between 0.67 and 0.81. Riparian vegetation on river borders can affect the riparian ecosystem of the watershed related to its function as a buffer zone and ecotone between water and land. A high diversity of riparian vegetation can indicate that the ecosystem of a river border is in good condition. Therefore, it is helpful to inventory the diversity of vegetation in the riparian zone, which was done in this study using the Shannon-Wiener diversity index. In this research, four plots measuring 5m x 5m, spread across upstream, middle, and downstream areas were used to analyze the types of vegetation, including trees, shrubs, and herbs. The diversity index (H') results revealed four vegetation species at the tree level, twelve species at the shrub level, and six species at the herb level. The range of H' values in all sample plots was 1< H' <3, so the river border was shown to have moderate diversity, which indicated that the ecosystem in the Sampean watershed is relatively balanced. It is necessary to preserve the riparian buffer zone through riparian vegetation restoration management to improve the ecosystem balance of the Sampean watershed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Balekambang City Park is one of the tourist attractions in Surakarta City. This park is unique because it is a tourism forest located in the middle of the city. This part of the city was revitalized in 2007 after some parts, such as the urban forest, were damaged due to neglect from the local Government and park managers. Now, in 2022, another revitalization process is needed, as the park has once again fallen into poor condition and the urban forest has been closed. This park has considerable tourism potential because it also plays an essential role in environmental sustainability. Malang Regency is located in East Java Province with an area of 3,530.65 km2. Its altitude ranges from 0 to 2000 meters above sea level with varying conditions, from lowland to mountainous. The southern part of Malang has various natural resources that need to be preserved. Unfortunately, the Malang Regency Government recently decided to convert a forest area of 50,000 hectares to an oil palm plantation. This plan has both pros and cons. Although oil palm has been cultivated before in South Malang, opening a wider oil plantation area requires further research. Assessing the suitability of land for oil palm farming is necessary to avoid severe environmental damages. Tourism is one of the sectors encouraged by the Indonesian government to increase economic growth. one of the efforts made is to establish Labuan Bajo as a national tourism strategic area. This study aims to explain the dynamics of access contested by some actors in tourism governance in Labuan Bajo. A qualitative approach was employed in this study. Data were gathered through interviews, focus group discussion, and document analysis. The results of this study indicate that tourism access is dominated by actors who have the power of capital and they control access to economic circles of the tourism management. This study aims to explain the management of tourism in the Komodo National Park (KNP). Besides, this study portrays the impact of tourism management on the socio-economic life of people living nearby the KNP. This study employed qualitative research methods. The data were obtained from interviews with community leaders, naturalist guides, village heads, tourism managers, fishers, and tourism management communities in the region. Two villages in the KNP were chosen as the data collection sites. The results of this study indicate that the management of tourism in the Komodo National Park area is dominated by the KNP Officer, while the local people exclusively positioned as natularist guide. Besides, this study shows that the existence of tourism in the national park only impacts on people living in the Komodo island region which exclude people living in the island of Rinca from welfare and prosperity. The unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia is prone to natural disasters. The loss from natural disasters that occurred was quite large, both in the economic, social and tourism sectors. This requires a company, non-governmental organization (NGO) and the Government to work together to prepare, respond to, and design new effective disaster management strategies. This study aims to determine disaster mitigation efforts and their relationship to cultural tourism areas. Data were collected through literature studies, in-depth interviews, and observations. This study aims to explore disaster mitigation efforts and their links to cultural tourism areas. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through literature studies, in-depth interviews, and observations. The study found that disaster mitigation in Segenter Indigenous Village consists of structural and non-structural mitigation. Structural mitigation is based on mechanical mitigation dimensions. Meanwhile, non-structural mitigation includes dimensions of knowledge, values, decision-making mechanisms, and group solidarity. The communities seek disaster mitigation with local knowledge and education or direction from outsiders.
