Abstract

Helixes of zinc silicate membrane hollow tubes were prepared using vertical a magnetic field. This preparation suggested a new model for morphological chirality induction and a new concept in controlling the chemical and physical process occurring at the interface between the ionic solution and sold surface, using a magnetic field.

Abstract

A bichromophoric compound, 3beta-[(2-(methoxycarbonyl)quadricyclane-3-yl)carboxy)androst-5-en-17 beta-yl-{3,3-dibenzoylmethanatoboron difluoride} propionate (QC-S-BF2) is synthesized and its photochemistry is examined using both steady state and time-resolved techniques. Selective excitation of the BF2 chromophore results in the valence isomerization of the quadricyclane group to norbornadiene group with quantum yield of ca. 5.8%.

Abstract

Research is done on the bifurcation structure of the hydrogen peroxide--sulfite system that was investigated quantitatively under the flow condition from which certain rate constants for some skeleton reactions were determined. The information from the experiment for the temperature dependence would be useful to design the temperature-insensitive chemical oscillator system, which is interested in relation to the function in living systems.

Abstract

A study relating to research on high magnetic field effects on photochemical reactions was conducted to investigate the magnetic field effects and magnetic isotope effects on several biradicals. The study aimed to elucidate previous research pertaining to the different mechanisms of magnetic field effects in relation to the magnetic field dependence of triplet biradical lifetimes. Among other results, it was found that the lifetime of the biradicals under study increased sharply to the respective maximum values at ca 2T upon increasing the magnetic field.

Abstract

Photophysical and photochemical studies on a Norbornadiene(N)-Steroid(S)- Benzidine(B) system show that long-distance intramolecular triplet energy transfer and single electron transfer from the benzidine to the norbornadiene chromophores occurs in the said system. The long-distance intramolecular electron transfer and triplet energy transfer occur via through-bond mechanisms where bichromophoric molecules are rationalized by through-bond interactions of the donor and acceptor obitals with those of the connecting sigma bond relays.

Abstract

Effects of magnetic field (maximum field, 4 and 93 T2m–1) on the propagation speed of a chemical wavefront from the Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction were studied in a thin glass tube. The downward and upward speed and the horizontal one are, respectively affected significantly by vertical and horizontal magnetic fields. Observations of the wavefront shape in magnetic fields showed that the magnetic force-induced convection causes the observed effects.

Abstract

A vertical superconducting magnet is used to study the magnetic field effects on membrane tube morphology prepared by a silicate garden reaction. The observations reveal that the Lorentz force on the outflow from the opened top of the hollow membrane tube induced convection of the solution near the tube exit, engendering chiral growth of the membrane tubes.

Abstract

金沢大学理工研究域電子情報学系, Electromagnetic devices such as superconducting magnets, magnetically levitated vehicles and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) create strong magnetic fields within their immediate vicinity. This has generated some concerns over the effects that these fields may have on the outside environment and in particular on living organisms. 50/60Hz magnetic fields are of special concern because living organisms are exposed to them on a continuing basis.We investigate the influence of a strong 60Hz AC magnetic field of 1.2T on organisms. The high AC magnetic field is generated by using a multilayer eddy-current type AC magnetic generator developed in our laboratory. In this paper, in vitro experiments were performed with biochemical reactions, enzyme and restriction endonuclese activities.As a result, the magnetic field inhibited catalase activity slightly only in biochemical reactions. Other reactions such as β-galactosidase activity and restriction endonuclese activity were not influenced at all. The results suggest that high 60Hz AC magnetic fields may influence biological functions in some organisms.

第26回宇宙利用シンポジウム(2010年1月25日-26日, 宇宙航空研究開発機構宇宙科学研究本部相模原キャンパス), The Twenty-sixth Space Utilization Symposium (January 25-26, 2010: ISAS/JAXA Sagamihara, Japan), In the present study, we investigated the effects of a strong static magnetic field (SMF) on oocyte maturation in Silurana tropicalis. First of all, we confirmed that oocyte maturation is triggered by progesterone, and this triggering is required for translation but not transcription. Under SMF the kinetics of initiation of oocyte maturation, as judged by the appearance of a white spot in the animal hemisphere, was found to be essentially the same as for controls. Cytological examination of treated specimens showed that the first polar body was excluded and spindle of meiosis II was successfully formed. However, as maturation proceeded, distribution of the pigment in the vegetable hemisphere became abnormal. The most of the white band characteristic of stage VI oocytes descended toward the vegetal pole and the rest of it invaded animal hemisphere. 第26回宇宙利用シンポジウム(2010年1月25日-26日, 宇宙航空研究開発機構宇宙科学研究本部相模原キャンパス), The Twenty-sixth Space Utilization Symposium (January 25-26, 2010: ISAS/JAXA Sagamihara, Japan), Life on earth is constantly exposed to a variety of natural and artificial electromagnetic and static magnetic forces. In order to help clarify the effects of such exposure on biological systems, we investigate the effects of static magnetic fields on embryos of Xenopus laevis as well as the expression of Xotx2 (an important regulator of fore- and midbrain morphogenesis) and Xag1 (essential for cement gland formation). Results showed that: (1) Embryos developed from treated eggs were non-viable and had multiple malformations including two- or microcephalic heads, deformed cement glands and abnormal body proportions. The eyes and brain were morphological deficient or entirely absent. (2) Xotx2 and Xag1 expression was suppressed.
