Polarized parton distribution functions are determined by using world data from the longitudinally polarized deep inelastic scattering experiments. A new parametrization of the parton distribution functions is adopted by taking into account the positivity and the counting rule. From the fit to the asymmetry data A_1, the polarized distribution functions of u and d valence quarks, sea quarks, and gluon are obtained. The results indicate that the quark spin content is \Delta\Sigma=0.20 and 0.05 in the leading order (LO) and the next-to-leading-order (NLO) MS-bar scheme, respectively. However, if x dependence of the sea-quark distribution is fixed at small x by "perturbative QCD" and Regge theory, it becomes \Delta \Sigma=0.24 ~ 0.28 in the NLO. The small-x behavior cannot be uniquely determined by the existing data, which indicates the importance of future experiments. From our analysis, we propose one set of LO distributions and two sets of NLO ones as the longitudinally-polarized parton distribution functions., Comment: 51 pages, REVTeX, aps.sty, aps12.sty, epsfig.sty, prabib.sty, revtex.sty, revtex.cls, 17 eps figures. Os problemas causados pela circulação automóvel representam um dos problemas recorrentes a mobilidade urbana. Neste sentido, o planeamento do transporte urbano baseado na utilização de meios de transporte não motorizados, como as bicicletas é um importante contributo para melhorar as condições de mobilidade e acessibilidade das cidades. Para que o modo ciclável seja competitivo face a outros meios de transporte é necessário avaliar o potencial físico de utilização, nomeadamente através da aferição da aptidão dos terrenos para receber infraestruturas cicláveis. Deste modo, neste trabalho apresenta-se um processo de classificação das vias em função da inclinação longitudinal do terreno e das vias de circulação, avaliando a confiabilidade de algumas ferramentas "lowcost" e "no-cost" para aferição desse parâmetro através de um estudo de campo realizado na cidade de Braga, Portugal, verificando-se um bom nível de acurácia dessas ferramentas em fase de planeamento e menos fiável para utilização em projeto.

Transverse momentum spectra of electrons from Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 130 GeV have been measured by the PHENIX experiment at RHIC. The spectra show an excess above the background from photon conversions and light hadron decays. The electron signal is consistent with that expected from semi-leptonic decays of charm. The yield of the electron signal dN_e/dy for p_T > 0.8 GeV/c is 0.025 +/- 0.004 (stat.) +/- 0.010 (sys.) in central collisions, and the corresponding charm cross section is 380 +/- 60 (stat.) +/- 200 (sys.) micro barns per binary nucleon-nucleon collision., 6 pages, RevTeX 3, 4 figures, 1 table, 308 authors, accepted by Phys. Two particle azimuthal correlation functions are presented for charged hadrons produced in Au + Au collisions at RHIC sqrt(s_NN) = 130 GeV. The measurements permit determination of elliptic flow without event-by-event estimation of the reaction plane. The extracted elliptic flow values v_2 show significant sensitivity to both the collision centrality and the transverse momenta of emitted hadrons, suggesting rapid thermalization and relatively strong velocity fields. When scaled by the eccentricity of the collision zone, epsilon, the scaled elliptic flow shows little or no dependence on centrality for charged hadrons with relatively low p_T. A breakdown of this epsilon scaling is observed for charged hadrons with p_T > 1.0 GeV/c for the most central collisions., 6 pages, RevTeX 3, 4 figures, 307 authors, submitted to Phys. Rev.
