This study adopted a systemic perspective to examine the perceived role of academic institutions in responding to Chinese international doctoral students (CIDS) double pandemic experiences. A hermeneutic phenomenological approach was utilized to guide the research process. The results showed the interlocking relations regarding how individual academic experiences interacted with the social-political-institutional environment during this time of crisis. The discussions highlight the systemic influences on CIDS' experiences. The theoretical and practical implications were included in order to inform systemic interventions.

The deleterious nature of U.S. economic recessions over the last several decades highlight a need to investigate the role of family economic strain on families. The current study explored the impact of family economic strain on marital quality and marital stability through dyadic associations of marital support and work-family conflict of 370 married couples over a 12-year period (1989-2001) through an actor-partner interdependence model, encompassing two major U.S. recessions. Guided by family stress and coping theory, findings are consistent with past research indicating the negative impact of family economic strain on marital quality and marital stability; however, this impact may be mitigated through the mediation of positive perceptions of marital support and work-family conflict. Implications suggest financial counselors should consider the lasting influence of economic strain on families, and how the psychosocial resources of martial support and managing work-family conflict may promote relationship quality and stability.

This study aims to have a systemic understanding of Chinese international doctoral students (CIDS)' perceived stress-coping process during COVID-19 in the US with an emphasis on the role of family dynamics in the process. The unique sociopolitical background during COVID-19 May trigger CIDS' unique stressors and responses. Moreover, as family plays an important role in CIDS' mental health and well-being, how CIDS interact with their family may largely influence their stress management process. Hermeneutic phenomenology was used as a methodological approach to obtain an in-depth understanding of CIDS experiences. The results highlight the various interlocking stressors and coping strategies across multiple levels perceived by CIDS. Furthermore, the results emphasize the impact of family teachings, cultural values, and how larger sociopolitical background has shaped the interactions between CIDS and their family, which in turn, shaped the CIDS stress-coping process. Infidelity has been operationalized inconsistently across studies, and measurement approaches have been employed that are not ideally suited for addressing the stigmatized and subjective nature of infidelity, thereby limiting the conclusions that can be drawn from this body of literature. In 2016, Thompson and O'Sullivan took a step toward addressing these shortcomings by implementing an indirect measurement approach. We extend their findings using a sample of 465 married and divorced individuals via MTurk. Substantially more participants reported having engaged in infidelity via the indirect approach than the direct approach, and results suggest that—in contrast to findings from direct questioning—similar percentages of men and women engage in self-defined infidelity. Purine metabolism acts as the core role in human metabolic network. It offers purine metabolites as raw material for building blocks in cell survival and proliferation. Purine metabolites are the most abundant metabolic substrates in organisms. There are few reports to simultaneously quantify canonical purine metabolism in cells. A novel hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (HILIC-MS/MS) method was developed to simultaneously determine purines profile in biological samples. Chromatographic separation was achieved using a HILIC (Waters Xbridge™ Amide) column. Different optimizing chromatographic conditions and mass spectrometric parameters were tested in order to provide the best separation and the lowest limit of quantification (LLOQ) values for targeted metabolites. The validation was evaluated according to the Food and Drug Administration guidelines. The limit of determination (LOD) and the LOQ values were in the range of 0.02–8.33 ng mL−1 and 0.1–24.5 ng mL−1, respectively. All calibration curves displayed good linear relationship of with excellent correlation coefficient (r) ranging from 0.9943 to 0.9999. Both intra-day and inter-day variability were below 15 %, respectively. Trueness, expressed as relative error, was always within ±15 %. In addition, no derivatization procedure and ion-pair reagents are in need. The innovated approach demonstrates high sensitivity, strong specificity, and good repeatability, making it suitable for absolute quantitative studies of canonical purine metabolism in cultured cells.
