6. The effect of green tea supplementation on the anthropometric outcomes in overweight and obese women: a time and dose-response meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Abstract

Inconsistencies are evident within the literature regarding the role of Green Tea (GT) supplementation on women living with obesity. To address this, we conducted to determine the impact of GT supplementation on the weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference (WC) in overweight and obese women using time and dose-response meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). This meta-analysis searched electronic Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and PubMed/Medline databases from inception to December 1st, 2022. Data were reported as weighted mean difference (WMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI). A total of 2061 references were identified, and 15 articles with 16 RCT arms on body weight, 17 RCT arms on BMI, and 7 RCT arms on WC were included in the meta-analysis. GT supplementation significantly decreases body weight (WMD: −1.23 kg, 95% CI: −2.13 to −0.33, p = 0.007), BMI (WMD: −0.47 kg/m2, 95% CI: −0.87 to −0.07, p = 0.020) and WC (WMD: −3.46 cm, 95% CI: −6.75 to −0.16, p = 0.040). In subgroup analyses, GT consumption demonstrated lowered body weight with dosaes ≥1000 mg/day (WMD: −1.38 kg), in the RCTs, which lasted ≥8 wk (WMD: −1.24 kg). The non-linear dose-response assessment detected a negative correlation between the changes in body weight and BMI in green tea consumption of more than 1000 (mg/day). The GT supplementation reduced the weight, BMI, and WC in overweight and obese women. In clinical practice, healthcare professionals can recommend using GT with dosages ≥ 1000mg/day and duration ≥ 8 wk in obese women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Identifying individuals at risk of developing DN is crucial for early intervention and improving patient outcomes. This study aims to develop and validate a machine learning-based predictive model using integrated biomarkers.Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted on a baseline dataset involving 2184 participants without DN, categorized based on their development of DN over a follow-up period of 36 months: DN (n=1270) and Non-DN (n=914). Various demographic and clinical parameters were analyzed. The findings were validated using an independent dataset comprising 468 participants, with 273 developing DN and 195 remaining as Non-DN over the follow-up period. Machine learning algorithms, alongside traditional descriptive statistics and logistic regression were used for statistical analyses.Results: Elevated levels of serum creatinine, urea, and reduced eGFR, alongside an increased prevalence of retinopathy and peripheral neuropathy, were prominently observed in those who developed DN. Validation on the independent dataset further confirmed the model’s robustness and consistency. Abstract

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is associated with obesity and type 2 diabetes, and an increased risk for liver cirrhosis and cancer. ELOVL family member 6, elongation of very long chain fatty acids (Elovl6), is a microsomal enzyme that regulates the elongation of C12-16 saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids (FAs). We have shown previously that Elovl6 is a major target for sterol regulatory element binding proteins in the liver and that it plays a critical role in the development of obesity-induced insulin resistance by modifying FA composition. To further investigate the role of Elovl6 in the development of NASH and its underlying mechanism, we used three independent mouse models with loss or gain of function of Elovl6, and human liver samples isolated from patients with NASH. Our results demonstrate that (1) Elovl6 is a critical modulator for atherogenic high-fat diet-induced inflammation, oxidative stress, and fibrosis in the liver; (2) Elovl6 expression is positively correlated with severity of hepatosteatosis and liver injury in NASH patients; and (3) deletion of Elovl6 reduces palmitate-induced activation of the NLR family pyrin domain-containing 3 inflammasome; this could be at least one of the underlying mechanisms by which Elovl6 modulates the progress of NASH. Conclusion Hepatic long-chain fatty acid composition is a novel determinant in NASH development, and Elovl6 could be a potential therapeutic target for the prevention and treatment of NASH.

Abstract

The symbolization of land polygon is an important part of cartography. In the mapping of traditional present land-use maps, the symbol of land polygons was usually filled by the method of filling or plotting, but these methods can't solve the spatial conflicts of the symbol. According to the principle of cartography, the rule of how to symbolize the land polygon was summarized, and a new method that can generate and deploy the land symbols was presented. By making use of C# programming language and Arc Engine developing components, the algorithm can generate land symbols presenting triangle and adjust the coordinate of the symbol. Through mapping the present land-use map of Honghe county, this algorithm can reduce 88.84% of the spatial conflicts error rate compared with the traditional methods. It improves the accuracy and efficiency of the map symbolic.

24. Paint adhesion and corrosion performance of chromium-free pretreatments of 55 % Al-Zn-coated steel

Abstract

The adhesion and corrosion performances for several pretreatments of 55% Al-Zn-coated steels which were coil-coated with polyester paint systems were determined. The objective of this study was to evaluate new, silane-based metal pretreatments and to compare their performance with the conventional pretreatments based on chromates and with other non-chromate metal pretreatments such as Zr-based treatments. The silanes used were y-aminopropyltriethoxysilane, styrylaminoethylaminopropyltrimethoxysilane, and bis-(triethoxysilyl)ethanesilane. In the comparison of the pretreatment performances, the standard chromate anticorrosive paint pigment was replaced with an ion exchange pigment. The painted panels were tested for adhesion by a 90° paint pull-off test and by a crosshatch test. Corrosion rates were determined by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and by accelerated tests: salt spray, GM Scab, Cleveland, and the new Volvo indoor test. The results indicate that silanes are comparable to the standard chromate in terms of paint adhesion and corrosion protection, but the silane performance is dependent on the metal cleaning process. Further, the ranking of all treatments studied varied in the different tests that were compared. None of the systems studied matched the performance of the standard paint system with a chromate anticorrosion pigment, indicating that the effect of an anticorrosion pigment in determining the rate of corrosion propagation in a painted panel is much greater than that of the metal pretreatment. A model is presented which explains the mechanism controlling the edge corrosion behaviour of painted 55% Al-Zn-coated steel and the relative effects of metal pretreatment and paint pigment on the overall corrosion protection. This model is based on cross-sectional analyses by SEM/EDX of painted panels after exposure in the Volvo test.

Dysfunctional fatty acid (FA) metabolism plays an important role in the pathogenesis of β-cell dysfunction and loss of β-cell mass in type 2 diabetes (T2D). Elovl6 is a microsomal enzyme that is responsible for converting C16 saturated and monounsaturated FAs into C18 species. We previously showed that Elovl6 played a critical role in the development of obesity-induced insulin resistance by modifying FA composition. To further define its role in T2D development, we assessed the effects of Elovl6 deletion in leptin receptor-deficient C57BL/KsJ db/db mice, a model of T2D. The db/db;Elovl6-/- mice had a markedly increased β-cell mass with increased proliferation and decreased apoptosis, an adaptive increase in insulin, and improved glycemic control. db/db islets were characterized by a prominent elevation of oleate (C18:1n-9), cell stress, and inflammation, which was completely suppressed by Elovl6 deletion. As a mechanistic ex vivo experiment, isolated islets from Elovl6-/- mice exhibited reduced susceptibility to palmitate-induced inflammation, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and β-cell apoptosis. In contrast, oleate-treated islets resulted in impaired glucose-stimulated insulin secretion with suppressed related genes irrespective of the Elovl6 gene. Taken together, Elovl6 is a fundamental factor linking dysregulated lipid metabolism to β-cell dysfunction, islet inflammation, and β-cell apoptosis in T2D, highlighting oleate as the potential culprit of β-cell lipotoxicity.
