OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of serum inflammatory factor levels in patients with acute ischemic stroke undergoing revascularization therapy. METHODS: The study included 94 patients with acute ischemic stroke who underwent revascularization therapy at our hospital. The primary outcome was the modified Rankin scale (mRS) score assessed three months post-treatment. Patients were categorized into two groups: those with a poor prognosis (mRS score > 2) and those with a good prognosis (mRS score≤2). The patients were divided into two groups based on the type of revascularization treatment received: thrombus extraction or intravenous thrombolysis. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify independent risk factors associated with the prognosis of patients treated with recanalization for acute ischemic stroke. RESULTS: Among the 94 patients, 59 had a good prognosis, and 35 had a poor prognosis. At admission, the patients in the good prognosis group exhibited lower NIHSS scores, shorter hospital stays, fewer previous cardiac events, lower LDL levels, fasting glucose, IL-6, and TNF-a compared to those in the poor prognosis group (all P < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis identified TNF-a (odd ratio (OD), 1.623; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.282–1.933; P = 0.035) and IL-6 (OD, 1.055; 95% CI, 1.024–1.088, P = 0.023) as independent risk factors for poor prognosis in patients after revascularization. Additionally, pre-hospital NIHSS scores, IL-6, and TNF-a levels were significantly lower in the good prognosis group compared to the poor prognosis group, with these differences being statistically significant. CONCLUSION: IL-6 and TNF-α may serve as prognostic markers for outcomes following revascularization therapy in patients with acute ischemic stroke, including those receiving intravenous thrombolysis. Aim: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between clinicopathological characteristics of atypical meningiomas (AM) and its post-operative recurrence.Materials and Methods: The clinicopathological characteristics and findings from follow up were retrospectively reviewed and compared between AM and benign meningioma (BM) patients. Univariate and multivariate analyses were employed to identify the factors related to the post-operative recurrence of AM.Results: More BM patients were females and received complete resection; the recurrence rate was significantly lower in BM patients as compared to AM patients. The progesterone receptor (PR), E-cadherin protein (E-Ca) and β-catenin positive rates and Ki67 labeling index were significantly different between two groups. Univariate analysis showed the age, tumor size, tumor invasiveness, E-Ca expression, and extent of resection were related to the post-operative recurrence of AM. However, multivariate analysis showed only the extent of resection and tumor invasiveness were the independent factors associated with the post-operative recurrence of AM.Conclusions: The extent of resection and tumor invasiveness are related to the post-operative recurrence of AM. To improve the surgical procedures to maximize the tumor resection is important to improve the prognosis of AM patients.

The antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) exhibit a broad antimicrobial spectrum. The application of AMPs from non-plant organisms attracts considerable attention in plant disease resistance engineering. Ponericin W1, isolated from the venom of ant (Pachycondyla goeldii), shows antimicrobial activities against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and the budding yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae); however, it is not clear whether Ponericin W1 is effective against plant pathogens. The results of this study indicated synthesized Ponericin W1 inhibited mycelial growth of Magnaporthe oryzae and Botrytis cinerea, as well as hyphal growth and spore production of Fusarium graminearum. Besides, Ponericin W1 exhibited antibacterial activities against Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato and Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae. After codon optimization, Ponericin W1 gene was constructed into plant expression vector, and transformed into Arabidopsis thaliana by floral dip method. The Ponericin W1 was located in intercellular space of the transgenic plants as expected. Compared with the wild-type plants, there were ungerminated spores and less hyphal, conidia on the leaves of transgenic plants after innoculation with the powdery mildew fungus Golovinomyces cichoracearum. After innoculation with the pathogenic bac-terium Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato, the baceria in the leaves of transgenic plants was significantly less than the wild-type plants, indicating that the transgenic plants displayed enhanced disease resistance to pathogens. These results demonstrate a potential use of Ponericin W1 in genetic engineering for broad-spectrum plant disease resistance.
