Spin parity effects refer to those special situations where a dichotomy in the physical behavior of a system arises, solely depending on whether the relevant spin quantum number is integral or half-odd integral. As is the case with the Haldane conjecture in antiferromagnetic spin chains, their pursuit often derives deep insights and invokes new developments in quantum condensed matter physics. Here, we put forth a simple and general scheme for generating such effects in any spatial dimension through the use of anisotropic interactions, and a setup within reasonable reach of state-of-the-art cold-atom implementations. $\chi$iplot is an HTML5-based system for interactive exploration of data and machine learning models. A key aspect is interaction, not only for the interactive plots but also between plots. Even though $\chi$iplot is not restricted to any single application domain, we have developed and tested it with domain experts in quantum chemistry to study molecular interactions and regression models. $\chi$iplot can be run both locally and online in a web browser (keeping the data local). The plots and data can also easily be exported and shared. We present a path integral formalism for the intrinsic quantum dynamics of magnetic skyrmions coupled to a thermal background of magnetic fluctuations. Upon promoting the skyrmion's collective coordinate $\boldsymbol{R}$ to a dynamic variable and integrating out the magnonic heat bath, we derive the generalized equation of motion for $\boldsymbol{R}$ with a non-local damping term that describes a steady-state skyrmion dynamics at finite temperatures. Being essentially temperature dependent, the intrinsic damping is shown to originate from the coupling of thermally activated magnon modes to the adiabatic potential driven by a rigid skyrmion motion, which can be regarded as another manifestation of emergent electrodynamics inherent to topological magnetic textures. We further argue that the diagonal components of the damping term act as the source of dissipation and inertia, while its off-diagonal components modify the gyrotropic motion of a magnetic skyrmion. By means of numerical calculations for the lattice spin model of chiral ferromagnets, we study the temperature behavior of the intrinsic damping as a function of magnetic field in periodic and confined geometries. The intrinsic damping is demonstrated to be highly non-local, revealing its quantum-mechanical nature, that becomes more pronounced with increasing temperature. At high temperatures when the magnon occupation factors are large, the intrinsic damping is shown to yield a modified Thiele's equation with the additional non-local dissipative and mass terms that exhibit an almost linear temperature behavior. The X-valuation adjustment (XVA) problem, which is a recent topic in mathematical finance, is considered and analyzed. First, the basic properties of backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) with a random horizon in a progressively enlarged filtration are reviewed. Next, the pricing/hedging problem for defaultable over-the-counter (OTC) derivative securities is described using such BSDEs. An explicit sufficient condition is given to ensure the non-existence of an arbitrage opportunity for both the seller and buyer of the derivative securities. Furthermore, an explicit pricing formula is presented in which XVA is interpreted as approximated correction terms of the theoretical fair price., Comment: 31 pages

Avikainen showed that, for any $p,q \in [1,\infty)$, and any function $f$ of bounded variation in $\mathbb{R}$, it holds that $\mathbb{E}[|f(X)-f(\widehat{X})|^{q}] \leq C(p,q) \mathbb{E}[|X-\widehat{X}|^{p}]^{\frac{1}{p+1}}$, where $X$ is a one-dimensional random variable with a bounded density, and $\widehat{X}$ is an arbitrary random variable. In this article, we will provide multi-dimensional versions of this estimate for functions of bounded variation in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$, Orlicz--Sobolev spaces, Sobolev spaces with variable exponents, and fractional Sobolev spaces. The main idea of our arguments is to use the Hardy--Littlewood maximal estimates and pointwise characterizations of these function spaces. We develop techniques to construct a series of sparse polyhedral approximations of the semidefinite cone. Motivated by the semidefinite (SD) bases proposed by Tanaka and Yoshise (2018), we propose a simple expansion of SD bases so as to keep the sparsity of the matrices composing it. We prove that the polyhedral approximation using our expanded SD bases contains the set of all diagonally dominant matrices and is contained in the set of all scaled diagonally dominant matrices. We also prove that the set of all scaled diagonally dominant matrices can be expressed using an infinite number of expanded SD bases. We use our approximations as the initial approximation in cutting plane methods for solving a semidefinite relaxation of the maximum stable set problem. It is found that the proposed methods with expanded SD bases are significantly more efficient than methods using other existing approximations or solving semidefinite relaxation problems directly., Comment: To appear in Computational Optimization and Applications

The aim of this paper is to study weak and strong convergence of the Euler--Maruyama scheme for a solution of one-dimensional degenerate stochastic differential equation $\mathrm{d} X_t=\sigma(X_t) \mathrm{d} W_t$ with non-sticky condition. For proving this, we first prove that the Euler--Maruyama scheme also satisfies non-sticky condition. As an example, we consider stochastic differential equation $\mathrm{d} X_t=|X_t|^{\alpha} \mathrm{d} W_t$, $\alpha \in (0,1/2)$ with non-sticky boundary condition and we give some remarks on CEV models in mathematical finance., Comment: 18 pages

In this paper, we first prove that the existence of a solution of SDEs under the assumptions that the drift coefficient is of linear growth and path--dependent, and diffusion coefficient is bounded, uniformly elliptic and H\"older continuous. We apply Gaussian upper bound for a probability density function of a solution of SDE without drift coefficient and local Novikov condition, in order to use Maruyama--Girsanov transformation. The aim of this paper is to prove the existence with explicit representations (under linear/super--linear growth condition), Gaussian two--sided bound and H\"older continuity (under sub--linear growth condition) of a probability density function of a solution of SDEs with path--dependent drift coefficient. This paper describes a semiclassical field-theory approach to the topological properties of spatially featureless Affleck-Kennedy-Lieb-Tasaki type valence bond solid ground states of antiferromagnets in spatial dimensions one to three. Using nonlinear sigma models set in the appropriate target manifold and augmented with topological terms, we argue that the path integral representation of the ground-state wave functional can correctly distinguish symmetry-protected topological ground states from topologically trivial ones. The symmetry-protection feature is demonstrated explicitly in terms of a dual field theory, where we take into account the nontrivial spatial structure of topological excitations, which are caused by competition among the relevant ordering tendencies. A temporal surface contribution to the action originating from the bulk topological term plays a central role in our study. We discuss how the same term governs the behavior of the so-called strange correlator. In particular, we find that the path integral expression for the strange correlator in two dimensions reduces to the well-known Haldane expression for the two point spin correlator of antiferromagnetic spin chains., Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures

The authors in a previous paper devised certain subcones of the semidefinite plus nonnegative cone and showed that satisfaction of the requirements for membership of those subcones can be detected by solving linear optimization problems (LPs) with $O(n)$ variables and $O(n^2)$ constraints. They also devised LP-based algorithms for testing copositivity using the subcones. In this paper, they investigate the properties of the subcones in more detail and explore larger subcones of the positive semidefinite plus nonnegative cone whose satisfaction of the requirements for membership can be detected by solving LPs. They introduce a {\em semidefinite basis (SD basis)} that is a basis of the space of $n \times n$ symmetric matrices consisting of $n(n+1)/2$ symmetric semidefinite matrices. Using the SD basis, they devise two new subcones for which detection can be done by solving LPs with $O(n^2)$ variables and $O(n^2)$ constraints. The new subcones are larger than the ones in the previous paper and inherit their nice properties. The authors also examine the efficiency of those subcones in numerical experiments. This article is meant as a gentle introduction to the "topological terms" that often play a decisive role in effective theories describing topological quantum effects in condensed matter systems. We first take up several prominent examples, mainly from the area of quantum magnetism and superfluids/superconductors. The history of modern condensed matter physics may be regarded as the competition and reconciliation between Stoner's and Anderson's physical pictures, where the former is based on momentum-space descriptions focusing on long wave-length fluctuations while the latter is based on real-space physics emphasizing emergent localized excitations. In particular, these two view points compete with each other in various nonperturbative phenomena, which range from the problem of high T$_{c}$ superconductivity, quantum spin liquids in organic materials and frustrated spin systems, heavy-fermion quantum criticality, metal-insulator transitions in correlated electron systems such as doped silicons and two-dimensional electron systems, the fractional quantum Hall effect, to the recently discussed Fe-based superconductors. An approach to reconcile these competing frameworks is to introduce topologically nontrivial excitations into the Stoner's description, which appear to be localized in either space or time and sometimes both, where scattering between itinerant electrons and topological excitations such as skyrmions, vortices, various forms of instantons, emergent magnetic monopoles, and etc. may catch nonperturbative local physics beyond the Stoner's paradigm. A symmetry-protected topologically ordered phase is a short-range entangled state, for which some imposed symmetry prohibits the adiabatic deformation into a trivial state which lacks entanglement. In this paper we argue that magnetization plateau states of one-dimensional antiferromagnets which satisfy the conditions $S-m\in$ odd integer, where $S$ is the spin quantum number and $m$ the magnetization per site, can be identified as symmetry-protected topological states if an inversion symmetry about the link center is present. This assertion is reached by mapping the antiferromagnet into a nonlinear sigma model type effective field theory containing a novel Berry phase term (a total derivative term) with a coefficient proportional to the quantity $S-m$, and then analyzing the topological structure of the ground state wave functional which is inherited from the latter term. A boson-vortex duality transformation is employed to examine the topological stability of the ground state in the absence/presence of a perturbation violating link-center inversion symmetry. Our prediction based on field theories is verified by means of a numerical study of the entanglement spectra of actual spin chains, which we find to exhibit twofold degeneracies when the aforementioned condition is met.
