Recently, smaller-size electron-beam (EB) accelerators have offered EB irradiation in laboratory systems. Therefore, polymer surface treatments with low-energy EB have been developed in the past years. For high adhesion strength, low-energy EB treatment is also a promising method in comparison to plasma surface treatment. In the plasma treatment, the mechanism of the effect on the adhesion properties has been proved and the excess treatments led to the formation of a weak boundary layer and reduction of adhesion strength. In contrast, the low-energy EB possesses high penetration ability. In this work, we focused on the surface treatments of isotactic polypropylene (it.PP) with low-energy EB irradiation for adhesion. The dependence of adhesion strength on the absorbed dose of electron beam was evaluated, and the mechanism of electron beam on the adhesion properties was investigated from various perspectives of surface properties and morphology. Compared to that of plasma-treated it.PP, the adhesion strength of it.PP with electron-beam irradiation increased drastically. We proved that the radical was generated in the substrates after electron-beam treatments and would form covalent bonds between adhesives and substrates, which achieved higher adhesion than plasma treatments. In addition, the electron beam reached effectively a deep region from the top surface of the substrates and provided larger adhesion strength.

Background Few studies have investigated the hospital‐based care utilization of children with medical complexity (CMC) in Japan. This study examined the frequency and differences in hospital‐based care utilization for CMC according to the level of medical complexity (moderate and severe). Methods Medical records of three pediatric tertiary hospitals in one prefecture were examined in 2014. We examined the number of outpatient visits and of admissions to the hospital for CMC in the 5 years after the introduction of home medical care. Results Of 92 CMC, 55 had medical complexity that was moderate (CMC‐moderate) and 37 had medical complexity that was severe (CMC‐severe). In the present study, we propose a simple and efficient method to specify fluid-force coefficients of a three-dimensional oscillating object in viscous fluid. The solving method is based on a discrete singularity method DSM. Then, we apply the DSM to some three-dimensional basic objects such as square-cross-section cylinders with various aspect ratios. It is crucial to model the physical world for simulation in which various phenomena are represented on a computer. In the case of simulation involving human actions, it is necessary to model not only physical phenomena but also human behaviors. However, there are still many unclear things about human behaviors. In this study, to clarify these behavioral characteristics, we verified two hypotheses using virtual reality. One was that ''people follow moving objects similar to humans in shape,'' and the other was that ''people follow the route with the majority of other objects.'' We tested these hypotheses by conducting two experiments allowing participants to select a route in a virtual maze in which objects were moving under certain rules. A technique has been developed that allows a smart device to capture a video of a computer screen with its built-in camera and then, using a hidden ID signaling, automatically download the file shown onscreen. The computer displays communication metadata necessary to send a file to a smart device (e.g. the computer's IP address) as a series of color transitions that are nearly imperceptible to humans. The smart device uses a proprietary camera application to capture a video of the computer's screen and read this communication metadata, with which it then accesses the computer and downloads a file. This system implements a simple interface for transferring files between computers and smart devices, a task that has suffered from usability issues for years. In this paper, the system that have been developed and evaluated for its applicability in practical use case is described.

We report two cases of localization-related epilepsy manifesting frequent brief atonia. The patients were assumed to have epileptic negative myoclonus (ENM), and were successfully treated with ethosuximide (ESM). Both exhibited hemi-orofacial twitches during sleep, and interictal electroencephalography (EEG) showed paroxysms over the contralateral posterior-temporal and centroparietal regions. Incessant atonia appeared at nine and 10 years of age accompanied by motor paresis. Ictal EEG showed irregular high-voltage spike-waves predominantly over bilateral centroparietal regions. Carbamazepine and zonisamide were ineffective in controlling, or even aggravated ENM. The addition of ESM resulted in immediate and complete disappearance of ENM and partial motor seizures along with an improvement of motor paresis. The first case was assumed to have idiopathic etiology because of normal development before the onset of epilepsy, while the second case was considered to have cryptogenic etiology based on a pre-existing intellectual disability. Hence, we recommend that ESM should be considered for the treatment of ENM that develops during the course of localization-related epilepsy, regardless of the etiology. However, further studies are still needed to evaluate the effects of ESM in the treatment of ENM.
