Abstract

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of crystalline hybrid porous materials that have drawn considerable research interest owing to their tunable characteristics and wide range of applications. In this study, we investigated the effect of the nickel ion concentration on the structural, optical, and electrical properties of Ni–H3BTC-MOF for the potential nonlinear saturable absorbance phenomenon. Structural analysis was performed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis, whereas diffuse reflectance UV–Vis–NIR spectroscopy was used to characterize the optical properties. The AC transport properties of the as-prepared Ni–H3BTC-MOF were investigated using electrical impedance spectroscopy. It was found that the porosity increased with an increasing concentration of nickel ions. In contrast, the real permittivity and loss tangent decreased. The highest modulation depth obtained was 4.48% for the sample with a nickel ion concentration of 2 mmol. This performance has been attributed to the low loss tangent (0.06–0.26), low real permittivity (11.3–23.9) F/m, median porosity (7.08 nm) and layered flower-shaped morphology of the material, all of which are desirable for the nonlinear saturable absorbance phenomenon.

Abstract

In this work, we have demonstrated metal ion detection using L-Cysteine functionalised gold-coated tilted fiber Bragg grating (Au-TFBG). L-cysteine (L-cys) is a semi-essential amino acid that has high tendency to form Au-S bond via thiol group on the gold surface of the sensor whereas the amine groups and carboxyl groups of the L-cys molecules can serve as surface ligands that bind with the metal ions in the test analyte. The findings indicate that the sensor was reactive and sensitive to different metal ions including Co2+, Cd2+, Cu2+, Pb2+, Ni2+ and Zn2+. By adopting the two-step procedure in the measurement, the refractive index noise can be effectively discriminated from the signal and the functionality of the L-cysteine grafted Au-TFBG sensor can be validated. The selectivity test results show that the sensor has high affinity towards Cu2+ metal ion and the measured LOD is 0.19 µM.

15. Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma: a case report of renal insufficiency during PD1 inhibitor treatment.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) is a subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma that accounts for approximately 3-8% of all malignant lymphomas. So far, ENKTL has no standard treatment guidelines, and the current treatment methods pose adverse effects. The combination of programmed death receptors (PD-1) and programmed death receptors' ligands (PD-L1) downregulates effector T cells; hence, it may be an effective treatment for NK/T-cell lymphoma. Here, we report a patient diagnosed with ENKTL whose health was significantly improved after PD-1 immunotherapy. At the same time, the patient suffered from related renal toxic side effects. Immunotherapy is an emerging treatment method for tumors, and the early diagnosis and identification of its side effects are vital for the diagnosis and treatment of tumors. CASE REPORT: Laboratory tests, pathological examinations, and the patient's history were performed to estimate the severity and the cause of renal insufficiency. The patient with ENKTL developed transient renal damage during immunotherapy. During the next treatment and examination, renal insufficiency was irrelevant to PD-1 inhibitors and avoided unnecessary drug withdrawal. CONCLUSIONS: In the present case report, we discuss a patient who developed a severe transient renal impairment during immunotherapy and review published studies regarding immunotherapy and its renal-related side effects. We also outline how to critically distinguish whether a patient's kidney injury is anti-PD-1 treatment. We also provide insights to oncologists to develop an effective follow-up treatment plan for early detection and management of any anti-PD-1 treatment side effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Translating the Neck Disability Index (NDI) into the Malay language (NDI-M); evaluation of psychometric properties in patients with neck pain. The NDI-M was translated according to established guidelines. In the first visit, 120 participants completed the NDI-M, visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain and demographic details. 98 participants returned to complete similar questionnaires and the Global Rating of Change (GRoC) scale. The NDI-M was evaluated for internal consistency, test-retest reliability, content validity, construct validity and responsiveness. The NDI-M demonstrated excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.84) and good test-retest reliability (ICC2,1 = 0.79). Content validity was confirmed with no floor or ceiling effects. Construct validity was established revealing three-factor subscales explaining 68% of the total variance. The NDI-M showed a moderate correlation with VAS (Rp = 0.49, p < 0.001). Regarding responsiveness, a moderate correlation between NDI-M change scores and VAS change scores was found (Rp = 0.40, p < 0.001). However, there was no significant correlation between NDI-M with GRoC (Rs = 0.11, p = 0.27). The NDI-M is a reliable and valid tool to measure functional outcomes in patients with neck pain. It is responsive in detecting changes in pain intensity during a patient's rehabilitation journey. The NDI was translated into the Malay language and culturally adapted for Malay-speaking patients with neck pain. The NDI-M demonstrated an excellent level of internal consistency and good test-retest reliability. It demonstrated content and construct validity, with three-factor subscales, and moderate responsiveness for pain intensity. The NDI-M is a reliable, valid and responsive instrument to measure functional limitations in patients with neck pain for rehabilitation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
